My laptop was at a stand still but these ssd harddrive has made a massive difference. I use it for discos and searching for tracks could take ages as well as freezing mid song now tracks takes seconds to find
I thought about replacing my ‘HP’ laptop recently. Having owned it for 4 years it was getting sluggish. I took a chance on upgrading the memory and installing a new 1TB SSD.
The ‘Crucial’ drive and memory upgrade has transformed things. The laptop loads super quick. Applications load quickly in fact, everything is vastly improved. The ‘Acronis’ cloning software simplified the drive setup. The hardest part was taking the back of the laptop to insert the parts. Thankfully, a visit to ‘YouTube’ sorted that one out. Still learning at 66. Very pleased with my purchases.
Great for creating a system backup disk for my rather old laptop. I’ve previously had to reinstall Windows following a crash and reinstalling apps is very tedious. Now I can just plug in the backup disk and recover my data and off I go.
I got this to use for storing video files that I download so I can watch them on my ancient TV downstairs, does the job & easily fits in an external case (see my other reviews).
The manufacturers name is good, the transfer speed is good, the capacity is good.
What else need saying?
I bought this to put in my eufy security system base station. It was easy to install (although it didn’t come with any screws, and nor did the base station, so it was luck I had some!) and once formatted the system reports a 2TB capacity. As for performance, I don’t have any way to test it on the device it’s installed in, but there has certainly not been any slow down in performance since it was installed.
SSDs are only becoming cheaper so you may as well buy one now if you’re still using a HDD! I’ve had this for over a year now, bought it at 43 and its now 32. I switched from a very slow Samsung HDD and I regret not buying an SSD sooner. My bootup time at the time of writing is now 14 seconds, which isn’t fast by any means and I’m not sure how to push it further but I am completely fine with the speed of my PC right now. 500GB is enough for me as I don’t have many games or large videos on my PC, and I formatted 100GB to be kept free.
Looks solid have yet to install but will say I brought this thinking it was pure white but is just metal silver color but the photo shows white not a deal breaker but I was going for a full white PC as for price got it in the black Friday deal so happy

Sons hard drive was faulty on his laptop so upgraded with this one, now is alot faster and more storage, installing it was simple and price was right, went with this based on it’s reviews
Bought this to replace my old drive. Pc kept freezing and restarting every time it likes. Can’t say it’s the drive causing it but I now use the drive as an external drive.
I have always liked Crucial for the quality of their items and their good customer service. This is a good little SSD with decent specs for a decent price.
I used this to replace a smaller capacity one and I use it for my main boot drive with Windows on for speed.
If you have never used SSD you need to upgrade now for a massive quality of life improvement.
Be wary of trusting your important data to those super cheap SSDs you can buy, always have a full and complete backup.
I’m gradually replacing my spinners with SSD’s, I now have five of these MX500’s and (so far, after nearly three years) have never had any trouble with them. I especially like the built-in data protection features.
Picked a 1TB unit up in the sale. Took about 10 mins in total (including a good clean out of the case) to install. Used the Crucial video guides to find out how to enable the drive once the PC was up and running again. Certainly does the job.
This is a big boy, easy to setup, stores all my data easily on my laptop. Crucial brand is consistently great value for money, this upgraded my 2tb and never had any problems with that.
This 1TB SSD was installed into a 2012 Mac Mini as a second drive. Works perfectly. Very happy with this purchase and cannot believe how the prices have come down over time.
Had to replace an SSD
Wanted some of these super fast m2, but unfortunately doesn’t work on my motherboard
So I plumbed for a bigger newer version of the drive I had. 20mins later everything transferred from old to new!
I’ve had the 1TB model in my laptop for 2+ years of my electronic engineering degree, I bought and fitted this 500GB one as an upgrade for my girlfriend, and it’s also been fine over the past 6 months or so.
Price-wise these seem pretty good too, although both times I believe I’ve managed to get them on offer/with a Birthday/Christmas gift voucher, so I might be slightly biased in that regard.
Also worth noting is the history of Crucial, or more specifically Micron, who have been making memory and storage since the late ’70s, and have also owned Lexar for a decade fairly recently.
Replaced 500gb hdd for this 500gb ssd. Boots up way quiker and opens apps quicker too. Used easeUS software to clone my original hdd to the new ssd,laptop booted up straight away with new ssd. Look for tutorials on YouTube, just need a sata to usb lead and follow the instructions.
Great little hard drives for fast storage than an old klunke
I contnue to buy these when they are discounted as they are just so reliable and the dram chip makes a real noticable difference for write tasks.
Took a few attempts to run, but that was probably down to my ‘finger troubles’
Easy to install, money well spent. I keep all games on it and they run considerably faster than whitout it. 1t is plenty for me but might be worth spending on a 2t if you can afford it.
Until I saw this SSD inside a SATA enclosure I did not even know it existed!
Once I fitted the new SSD into the Harddrive bay and installed a new OS it was so fast I think it took just 3 minutes to install the OS and see my desktop up and running, My ACER laptop now is blazing fast to start from completely switched off
My current PC used to perform like a potato until I bought this SSD. It works absolute wonders for speeding up the performance of anything with SATA revision 3
The Acronis software supplied with the disk makes the change over simple. The drive is fast and stable.
Purchased this for extra storage for my PC games. Works as expected and fit right into my current build without having to remove any other storage drives.
Sadly it didn’t come with a SATA cable or mounting kit/screws, so you will need to purchase these as well. My PC had the mount already installed and I had spare screws and a SATA cable.
If you are looking for a large capacity drive at an affordable price, you can’t go wrong with this.
Time of transfer 661GB data from Toshiba P300 1TB HDD to Crucial MX500 4TB SSD took 1h:12mi
Bought this for our 2013 laptop. Moved from a Toshiba mechanical 5400rpm hdd to this and its like night and day. Used to take 10 minutes from login to be able to start a browser, now can do it within seconds. Free edition of acronis software from Crucial website made the clone old to new a walk in the park. Just make sure you have a sata to usb cable if cloning from a laptop
I bought this for a older MacBook Pro 2011 it works and made the laptop a lot faster on boot up but what I would say is do your home work for Macs it took me about a day trying to do the format and get the old OS X system on the laptop once I had fitted the ssd card
the good thing is Mac does all the work for you cloning your hard drive if you youtube everything before you start unlike me I was like a bull in a china shop straight to it

I have a number of these in a variety of computers around the house. Why? 1st up I have used Crucial parts for a long time to upgrade and repair for a long time. 2nd because replacing your old HDDs with a solid state drive is a really cheap and easy way to speed up a computer. Mines an old laptop has 3 drives, this was used to replace a 1tb hard drive that was used for photo editing and for installation of games/programs to. It’s made a huge difference, photo editing software now runs a lot quicker, uploading 1500 RAW files took much less time, the laptop is better than it ever has been and this is far cheaper than a new laptop. Installation involved opening the laptop unscrewing and disconnecting 1 drive, plugging this into the SATA cable, installing a couple of screws and closing the laptop, done in 10 minutes, no extra drivers or configuration. I can only recommend using these wherever you can.
I have installed the 1T SSD on a system which is 8 years old. By treasuring other customers’ suggestions I updated the drivers first, then used the Crucial software, which took over 6 hours to complete the task! After restart everything looked ok at a first glance, but when I began to use the programs, big problems occurred, like Microsoft Office wouldn’t start, Firefox would just blink for a second and then crash… I restarted the whole process from scratch with a different cloning software (free), which finished in about 80 minutes and now everything is working smoothly and faster. So, big praise to Crucial for the hardware, but also big blame for the software.

Apparently some SSD caddies don’t properly recognise these large drives when connected to some macs m. When I first connected this to my Mac, disk utility reported that it was a 1.8 TB drive and there was no way I could format it as 4 TB. It turned out that the issue was my caddy, but I didn’t find this out until I had spent a lot of time online, searching, help forums etc. It would be handy if the manufacturer put a note in With the drive to save all that frustration as this is happening to many users. I got around the problem by connecting the caddy to a Windows machine and formatting as fat 32, then reconnected to the Mac and re-partitioning as Mac Format.
As SSDs become cheaper, when I purchased this Crucial 1TB one it was needed for one of my old laptops, most peopke who have an older laptop will have noticed that they are now a bit on the slow side and might be thinking of buying a new one, I thought about it and then dismissed the idea and fitted an SSD instead, the difference the Crucial one has made is great, boot up is now less than 30 seconds and the machine runs as good as a new one, The Crucial SSD has not only rejuvenated my old lappy but also at least 10 – 12 others as well including a couple of desktops. My Crucial SSDs have been reliable, fast and affordable. Think about an SSD before you throw your old lappy away, OK there are other things that will speed up an old machine but these will make the biggest difference that you will be very pleased with.
This time it was to upgrade from 500Gb to 1TB for my main system drive. I upgraded using the free version Acronis True Image for a spectacularly process.
Having been an SSD user for the past 10 years, I’m not seeing the lightening jump I first saw when moving from HDD to SDD, but can still remember monumental leap in drive speed when I did.
I find the MX500’s very reliable, whilst not the fastest SATA SSD’s available, I prefer reliability. I actually bought two drives this time and also migrated in a more sedate fashion (copy/paste) my media files (documents/pictures/ebooks/music etc) from a dedicated HDD to this SSD. The upgraded 500gb unit has also been replaced as a scratch drive for my Photoshop / Premiere work, so I’m totally free of mechanical drives now.
Next upgrade will be to PCI4.0 M.2, when Mrs M gives me the go ahead for the upgrade to a 13th Gen i7 setup! – LOL
Well, it has transformed my laptop. Turns on seconds, loads everything so cleanly. I can now play games for hours which it would not run for a second before. It is also silent as the SSD is digital and has no moving parts. So no more whirling loading sound, it just works. And works fast. I bought a lead to connect it to my laptop via USB so I could clone my HDD to the new SSD before removing my HDD. This cloning software is recommended on the leaflet that comes with the SSD, you just download it and follow the steps. It took hours, so I left it doing its thing overnight and by the morning it was done. From here you unscrew the back of laptop, pop the HDD out and stick the new SSD in. Turn back on, and bang it works perfectly. I cannot express how happy I am that I can now use my laptop to its full potential. I am so so pleased.
first things first,before purchasing I searched online for a video for my model lappy on how to get things apart (I have built several PCs, but apart from keyboard changes never played with laptops)… looked easy enough to install (it really was too) ……. So, I installed the Acronis clone software from Crucial, and connected the new drive via USB3 using the Ugreen USB – SATA cable (available on Amazon, can also do 3.5 drives too as has a power cable if required, but not needed for SSD)… note: the Crucial version of the software will not work unless you have a Crucial drive connected… it found the new drive, took a few minutes to set it up and successfully cloned my existing drive in about 30 minutes… Then following the afore mentioned instructions, I installed both the new RAM and drive to the machine, literally under 10 minutes later, battery back in and rebooting the machine…. boot time was greatly improved, as said before, not blisteringly fast due to other restrictions, but several minutes quicker than before, under 30 seconds for fully loaded…. no need for a new laptop, this old gal is perfectly usable for what I require now and programmes etc install a lot faster and have had none of my previous, freezing / lagging issues…… the only issue I had was that for some reason the sound device driver needed reinstalling, was on the drive but for some reason didn’t work…a 1 min job
I picked Crucial, because I have used their RAM in many applications before, with no issues, their Micron branded chips are used by other manufacturers (inc the WD blue 3D nand SSD) and they are priced quite reasonably…. possibly being one of the “best of the rest” after Samsung in the SSD market, obviously using the SATA 3 format, speed is restricted by the actual format itself, but some improvements can be made further by installing Crucials own SSD software, this has a function whereas the cache is used to speed things up even further, and allows you to monitor the health etc of the drive… One question remains though, and this one is for Toshiba, with the laptop having a SATA2 drive factory fitted, I was expecting speeds around the 250-280MB/s mark, as S2 tops out at 300 MB/s, so imagine my joy when testing immediately after install a test mark of 551MB/s read and 518 write… the motherboard is actually a SATA 3… so happy days..
here are the Seq Q32T1 speeds taken from crystaldiskmark, for the old HDD, the SSD and then the SSD using crucials Momentum Cache software
HDD read 105.4 MB/s – write 99.12 MB/s
SSD read 551.2 – write 518.4
MC read 1504.1 – write 1609.7
as you can see, speeds are greatly improved and the momentum cache software is pure witchcraft…. bottom line, with a little bit of knowledge, research and confidence you can breath new life into an ageing machine (Laptop or desktop) with great success for a lot less than a new machine, better still you can then just use your existing HDD as an external backup for photos / documents etc using the same cable you used to clone the original (wipe it first)
