As soon as I saw the trailer, I pre-ordered it on ‘Game’ and eagerly waited. On the day of the release, the delivery person thought it was a brilliant idea to shove the game through the Letter box! Long story short, the game box was broken and after a very long fight with Game, I got my refund.

As soon as this happened, I turned to the trusty Amazon and ordered the game at good discount and delivery was amazing!

Regarding the game: In my teens, if you told me Kratos would turn out to be an amazing father and even teach people a thing or two, I would have laughed at your face, but here we are in 2023 and I could not be more proud of Kratos. If you are coming from the first God of War game (2018) and expecting a wildly different gameplay experience then you will be disappointed, but the gameplay is much smoother and very fluid. So much so that even after moving on to the other games, I came back to this and earned the Platinum Trophy at last!
All in all, the game is truly gorgeous and the story is super satisfying (Never expected to get emotional in a God Of War game). I usually sell my games once I finish them to use the extra cash for new and upcoming games but this one for the history books. Can’t wait to get a big screen 4K TV soon and relive this epic story.

Ps: The game cover is reversible and has beautiful artwork on it :).

This is a great game that expands on the previous one and gives a fairly satisfying conclusion to the 2 part story. While this game is still a hack and slash like the rest of the series it has has a lot more depth with a great story and brilliant characters.
I completed the game 100% and now really miss the world it is set in and the characters I met along the way. I hope there is another game in the series to follow on and that it can be at least this good.

What a follow up to the 2018 GOW.
There are some very tedious parts like with all games, story felt very well structured & now with NG+ added it has many more hours to play & challenge for things you missed/couldn’t do the first time round.
Only down side for me was Atreus, I didn’t much care for him in the last game & cared even less for his & his story line this time round!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersI really enjoyed God of War Ragnarok and the combat is excellent, in the harder difficulties it forces you to use everything at your disposal and effectively too. Characters are written very well, the fact you see Kratos develop his more understanding, merciful and compassionate side is beautiful to see when in the past he’s been mainly a vessel for pure rage and destruction. The bond with Atreus feels very genuinely crafted, alot of scenes hit hard playing as a father yourself.

I give the game 5/5 because of how much I enjoyed it I feel like I cannot give less, it is a very good game and most of the set pieces are masterfully executed, but if I was being very critical I would. Why, because too much of the games mechanics just feel outdated and boring. I am playing as the God of War, can someone please explain why I’m forced to crawl painstakingly slow through crevice after crevice and climb countless cliffs. At least in games like Tomb Raider and Uncharted they try to make these segments somewhat engaging and it makes more sense to be doing them in the context of you’re a human explorer but I’m KRATOS and the movement just feels so sluggish. I completely understand what they were going for with this and the original God of War 2018, but I think they focused too much on making the experience feel weighty and somewhat realistic rather than remembering first and foremost this a video game and the focus should be pure fun. The puzzles are also lame, why even include them at all when whichever NPC you’re playing alongside blurts out the answer if you don’t instantly complete it. The constant annoying chatter from your companions made me want to quit and boot up Elden Ring, I feel like my intelligence was being constantly insulted.

These gripes are not exclusive to this game, I think it’s just the way most Western first party developers have veered too heavily towards and I feel like people need to start following devs like Insomniac Games more, all of their games are insanely fun to play and perfectly encapsulate what the focus of video games should be, pure enjoyment first and foremost. I know not all games can be the same but even when you look at a lot of Japanese games (Metal Gear Solid, Yakuza) that are very custscene and set piece heavy, it balances out because the gameplay is so fun and fast paced. I really hope these outdated game mechanics stay in the last generation because from what we have seen already with pure next gen games, the potential for innovative creative and exciting games is endless, we don’t want to spend time having our hands held and wasting time climbing, that’s just not fun and devs need to start doing better.

Ultimately Ragnarok is a very good game but ironically serves as a reminder that new generation games need to take bold steps in a new direction.

You know what to expect from a god of war game.. a bunch of mythology and killing.

    Good game.

Loved God of War (2018), and Ragnorok has everything that’s great about that game, and adds to it.

No spoilers, but new characters are enjoyable and loved the fresh approach to getting to play as Artreus and you also get to have other characters fight by your side.

I have been waiting for this game for so long. The previous GoW was amazing, and being a massive fan of northern mythology, I couldn’t let this pass.

The game is awesome. I am still playing it but I am going for the 100%, doing absolutely every single mission I can find. The story is just great, graphics are amazing and there is a lor of content.

If your are still thinking about it,, give it a try!

A vast game .. Graphics are superb . Smooth gameplay with no glitches . Cut scenes can be overlong and a bit tedious as you can’t skip them . Hours and hours of gameplay … but why oh why was it necessary to include the ‘F’ word in some of the dialogue .. It does nothing to enhance the game and sounds SO out of place given the story line and characters . The combat can be tough … but enjoyable . Definitely recommend this game , but not one you would play again , once completed

I’d normally struggle to give anything a 5/5 or 10/10 review. This is the easiest decision I’ve had to make. What. A. Game. The 10/10 from industry magazines, websites, reviewers and consumers are all justified. If this game stays full-price forever, it’ll still be worth it.

I was hoping for more of the same from the 2018 God of War knowing how good that game was. I didn’t expect them to build on the experience, advancing the combats, systems and characters. The combat was fantastic fun, without getting the point of repetitive button bashing. The game is challenging to the point where success feels rewarding and not frustrating. The sound design really helps for you to find all those collectibles (in my opinion much better than what it did in the previous game). The music adds to the emotions and gives so much depth to the cinematic experience. There was very little to fault at all about this game. A couple minor bugs at a couple moments (purely graphical, nothing game-breaking) in 50+ hours of gameplay so far is an incredible success rate for a modern game, no day one patch for Ragnarok. Out the box, it’s a masterpiece.

This is the Avengers End Game of video games.

This is the best game I have played on the PS5 – no surprise giving the God of War series

I play this with my two sons and wife, we all are gripped whilst playing and find ourselves staying up until silly o’clock playing.

Graphics are out of this world and the story line is brilliant

Not sure how this didn’t win game of the year

    10/10

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersDecent game but it’s certainly not anywhere near Chuckie Egg on the Commodore 64 level of greatness

All games should be measured against the almighty Chuckie Egg!

It’s the way reviews of the future need to be done!

Overall though it’s probably the game of the year, except for the screen burn issue which I think was patched.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is hands down the best game I have played in a long time, every inch of the game is a rewarding experience full of lore and dynamic characters, dialogue and world experiences. Returning to the Norse realm in a bigger than ever sequal is a thrill every step of the way, Kratos and Atreus character development is better than ever. Aside from the story this is a perfect example on how to release a game, front release date the bugs where extremely minimal and I noticed no issues except one freeze that required a reboot. Graphics are stunning and the various graphical options are refreshing too see. I personally highly recommend playing in the dynamic 4K + 60 FPS performance mode for stunning visuals, comfortable frames and great HDR. Disable HRF Mode which unlocks to 90 FPS as this mode is stuck at the PS5 limited chroma subsampling which slightly dampens the colours

After playing GoW 2018, it seemed hard to see how they would top it for the next game, but Ragnarok beats it impressively. An absolute adventure from start to finish, personally took me 60 hours to 100% the game so definitely got my moneys worth.

It’s good just not as good as the first one. If you like the original you’ll love the sequel. I wish it had been slightly different but it’s not. It’s virtually identical. The story is ok and the graphics are good. It’s a quality game but nothing special and not as good as it could have been or as people claim. More of the same!!!

This game is phenomenal, I’ve been playing the GOW games since the second one came out and loved the series. This one in particular was just amazing, the story, the visuals, the animatics, the music, the acting, this game is FLAWLESS and worth every penny. This deserves no less than 5 stars.

I would strongly recommend this to be played on a oled tv with hdmi 2.1 @120hz. I have bought an LG C2 42″ (750 discounted) for my gaming setup but an lg c1 or c2 55 to 75″ will be better for a leaving room.

Really enjoyed ragnarok better than 2018 in a lot of areas. But I think 2018 had a better story it is more expensive than most ps5 games but definitely get value for the price.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersRagnarok is an excellent follow up to the 2018 God of War game.

    Positives:

Excellent combat mechanics, bolstered by a new weapon half way through the game.

Brilliant voice acting and animation work that gives real emotional heft to key scenes. Richard Schiff as Odin was a masterstroke of casting (especially if you’re a West wing fan like me).

A sense of sufficiently grand scale for the climatic set piece battles.

Interesting variation amongst the different realms you explore, decent array of enemies.

A strong focus on themes of family, friendship and growing up which cuts through the bigger mythological story.

    Faultless graphics and art direction.

    Negatives:

Exploration can be frustrating, similar to the last game. Minor progression bugs, confusing level mechanics (night/day giving different routes, areas closing off at certain points of the story etc) lead to quite a bit of fruitless wandering around trying to find an exit.

The main plot is a bit padded, and the focus on “destiny” is less compelling than the family drama. Some plot threads like *minor spoiler* Atreus in Jotunheim *spoiler* drag a bit.

Combat is a bit spongey, especially against the bosses. A lot of attacks feel weightless especially given the impressive visuals.

There are quite a few cookie cutter side quests (fetch this, kill that) that don’t add much to the story.

Overall a brilliant game, but it did feel padded out to make it bigger than the last one.

Visuals are amazing and the story is good. I find some of the combat / fights frustrating as the character often just freezes still (not a glitch) or seems to take along time to stand up and when you role to avoid a strike, it sometime rolls into the assailant ? Also it’s difficult not to parry so by the time you break away the assailant has battered you again – meaning retreat is tricky. But still 5 stars !!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI’ve been looking forward to this game for a while. It took a little bit of time to install the 91GB base along with any patches. You start out selecting from a fair selection of accessibly options and other performance settings. Once in the game it gives you the option to catch up on what happened in the previous game which is nice to go through. You then kick off the game learning the basic movement and combat before really progressing into the fantastic game play. I have not observed any bugs or glitches in the game play so far. I did make sure to install the day one patch as recommended. First thing i really noticed is the haptic feedback on this game is amazing as are the visuals and sound effects. The combat controls are similar to the previous game and felt natural and easy to get into. Kratos himself is as gruff as ever with Christopher Judge continuing to do a great job voicing Kratos as the character develops new layers. Characters from the previous game return with the same great banter to lighten up a sometimes-heavy story. New characters have an interesting choice of voice direction but works well once you have got used to it. There are more side quests in this one and a lot of opportunities to explore to find loot for upgrading your equipment or making new equipment. The usual skill tree can be augmented if you use a skill enough times, you can unlock a rune for it to make it more powerful. Items comes with different perks so you can really customize kratos to your play style. So far, I’m very much enjoying playing Ragnarok and would absolutely recommend it to everyone.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI normally like to write big reviews about amazing games. However I’m going to keep it short. Well this game for me is game of the year material.
The story is amazing and kept me glued to it. The music is amazing. The action and combat are perfect. I think this is the only game in a long time I can say no bugs have been seen. Normally for a new game they are always full of bugs.
Character development in this game is master class and you can’t ask for more in this. I like everyone in this game and it never a dull moment. This isn’t a sequel at all it’s the second part of the first.

It’s a must buy ,go get it if you haven’t already

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThe story is wonderful, the graphics are top notch, characters are well written and the side quests are generous! There are moments where some chapters are slow, but I say keep up with it because it really does pick up.

The gimped combat as I mentioned in my title refers to the bare-handed combat skill tree which seems to be missing. I’ve no idea why they have taken this out, really odd design choice.

The graphics really is eye-candy, especially if you’re playing on an OLED screen. I fully recommend you buy this at whatever the price is, it’s a roller-coaster of emotions.

As a huge fan of the GoW series, no game has let me down thus far.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have just finished the whole game and wow, what a ride I’ve been on for the last few days. I completely lost myself in the story, I couldn’t stop myself playing. The story is extremely well written, the graphics are fantastic and will definitely ruin the next few games I had my eyes on, as the attention to detail, textures and animations will be hard to top from what the next big releases on my list have previewed so far.

The story has been a roller coaster of emotions and I’m glad that we also get the chance to play as other players than Kratos at times to experience a whole different timeline/side of the story. I laughed, I cried, I shouted at my TV when I got killed in a boss fight, i was shocked at some twists and turns. Everything I could ask of a game and so much more.

If you, too, found Atreus incredibly annoying in the first part, there will be times where you wanna kill him and will roll your eyes, but by far not to that extent and I even took a liking to him in general (apart from some things he said and did), the character development is apparent – not only in Atreus, but also in Kratos in particular. I do hope for another part or at least a long DLC, there’s some questions and loose ends that need explaining!!

10/10, would recommend (if you couldn’t tell).
