I have about 600 of my favorite songs on my Google Pixel phone in hi rez FLAC files, and the Hiby FC4 dac/amp used with quality headphones makes my phone a great hi rez music player! The sound is rich and detailed to an extent I didn’t expect from an $89 dac/amp. The FC4 is super portable so you can have high quality music on the go.
The FC4’s major drawback is that it’s not powered, so it draws on your phone’s battery, but less than I expected.
The FC4 is a super quality, super portable dac/amp.
Excellent sound quality and very low battery drain using my Samsung S23 Ultra and the UAPP. Bravo!
Egal was leute im Netz schreiben.
The sound, the amplification, the build quality are all great especially when combined with the HiBy Music player app.
The problem is the power consumption. When coupled to a mobile phone it drains the battery in no time. I get around 90 minutes playtime at best with the balanced output, and 100 minutes using the 3.5mm “economy” output.
Pity. I.M.
I have nothing to compare this against, but I like the musicality. I am using this with a Letshouer S12 planar IEM. I am not an audiophile, hence cannot explain in those terms. The combination is clear, with good bass and high freq output. I also “feel” like I am hearing what I had never heard before.
A perfect match for your Tidal Master subscription. I was blown away when used it for the first time. You will discover and hear so many new things in your favorite songs. Try it yourself and experience this fantastic DAC.
For as such a small device, this dac/amp rocks! Great volume with my Sennheiser iem’s and Sennheiser HD3’s and any other headphones I have. Used to think my LG V50 was a great device with the quad dac and was loud, it was, but this FC4 is just as loud if not more so, and sounds just as good if not better than the v50…. Am very satisfied! Haven’t tried my balanced phones yet as the set needs a rewire. But the amp on the FC4 is supposed to be more powerful with the balanced output vs the se slot. Can’t wait to see!
This little DAC is really good. The amplifier on the 3.5mm unbal is really good. This review is ONLY from the 3.5mm side.
I connected my iPhone and listen to FC4 using my headphones, in my Infiniti and my Corolla. Also I listened to it through my Marantz Home System.
I could not test 4.4mm port, it kept shutting off. I had to return DAC for a replacement. So I’ll update this review later once I have a chance to test the 4.4 mm side.
Remember listening to music is as unique as you are. Your experience is how you like to hear highs, mids and lows. In my opinion when listening to any device you should start listening at 0. Then later adjust the EQ.
The FC4 in my opinion impressed me in vocals, mids and highs. I love hearing a falsetto and soprano vocals. I listen to Philip Bailey’s (EWF) falsetto on the FC4 and it’s impressive.
The songs I listened to were off the 1976 Spirit album. (Imagination) and the 1977 All n All album. ( I’ll Write A Song For You). The highs are crisp and defined.
FC4 Bass is nice and balanced. Again start at 0 then -/+ EQ.
My Music test songs were:
Michael Jonasz – Le Temps Passe
Hans Zimmer – A Dark Knight
Marcus Miller – Cousin John
Kait Dunton – The Lady in my Life
Citrus Sun – Refugee
Incognito – Rivers on the Sun.
Earth, Wind and Fire – listed above
Al Green – Look What You Done For Me
Duke Ellington & John Coltrane – In A Sentimental Mood
Cecile McLorin Salvant – Cry Buttercup Cry
The FC4 is impressive. Again speaking Only from my listening to 3.5mm side. If you are wanting to hear improvements this DAC will enhance what the musician wanted you to hear, even at this price point.
Until next time.
Hear what you are listening too.
Absolutely great sounding DAC. Music is full, clear, and very present. MQA works fine on the Tidal app, Roon, and Audirvana Studio. No issue for me with standard USB c to USB c cable or the one included with the DAC. Using primarily on a 2020 Mac Book Air M1 with no issues. Short and sweet, highly recommended. Best portable DAC out there especially for the price, but the sound rivals other more expensive alternatives as well.
The only way to listen to Apple Music in Hi-res 192Khz/24bit is by adding a DAC/AMP. This little thing can handle little headphones and big ones like my Hifiman Sundara to ear piercing volumes.
Took one star out because it didn’t come with usb-c to lightning cable, otherwise this is an excellent DAC. As this unit does not have an internal battery, it will also drain your phone battery faster.
Tested it with Windows 11 (Foobar2000), no need to install drivers as it shows up as speakers. Works excellent with iPad, iPhone and my Sony NW-Z507.
