Good image and easy set up. When I opened it in zoom I felt the zoom was too close bit while in a meeting I noticed that wasn’t the case.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersWe use this for web chat like Zoom and Teams. Our PC now runs Windows 11 and the helper app which should let you adjust various features like zoom, contrast and exposure does not work on Windows 11 and Logitech make it clear that this camera is obsolescent. Fortunately Windows 11 offers simple adjustments like exposure and contrast, so this is not too much of a problem, although we wanted to increase the zoom to show more of the speaker and less of the room. The microphone is very good. As such, it is a good purchase as long as the basic features meet your needs.

When I was looking around for a new cam for my streaming and general set up, I chose to go with the Logitech C920HD,

The easy to use cam comes with a range of settings which allows your to change the Quality of the images and able to compensate for varieties of Things in your room, that might make you struggle to get a Clear and crisp image, E.G light exposure, Auto focus, Contrast and Many other feature, I use this cam daily, and Absolutely, Love i

Bought to use for meetings, very good quality both picture & sound. Easy set up. I use it with a Mac so not as many options available apparently – I don’t need options I just like things to work – and this does perfectly. Literally Plug & Play in MacOs Ventura

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersJust started using it in 2023 and i’m amazed at the quality of the full HD at 30fps. I was thinking about purchasing an upgrade but 4k at 60fps is still unavailable at Logitech. So i decided to dig this up and give it a try, still boxed with sticky clear plastic on the lens and underside.

Can’t believe i didnt try this before bought it on sale for 24.99 back in 2018 November must have been black Friday. Wish i bought more considering technology hasn’t advanced much in webcams but the quality of the camera for the price is absolutely tremendous.

If you like to stream or just do daily vlogs for your own viewing and family then i suggest you wait for the sales and grab a few bargains. Give them to friends and family not sure if they will get that cheap again, happy camming!

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI bought this to replace a camera that was nowhere near as good as advertised.
This was shown as having auto focus, wider angle than my prev one, and brightness in lower light conditions.

It def does auto focus brilliantly. And it does have a wider viewing angle. The bit it seems not to do very well is the brightness. I tried it wtih extra lightning but then it dims things – most hair on your head!

My Macbook has a Facetime cam. 720p. That has better lighting than this dedicated camera. Tho def not as good on the quality.

I’m still debating keeping this, considering I got it for all three of these reasons. One of which is really important as my office is not “brightly lit”.

Oh, and while the cam does come in small packaging which is great – boy is it fiddly!

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersOK So… My old iMac had suddenly started crashing in the middle of some important Zoom calls – intermittent fault, probably videocard, repair likely to destroy machine AND Apple will no longer be supporting that machine after December! Well, great.

So, new Macbook. 27″ screen. Webcam. Did a bit of research, C920 Pro HD is a good un. Job done.

Not job done. Flicker. Bad flicker in Zoom. This is not good. Searched for how to fix this, lots of suggestions about changing the frame rate – which is reacting to LED lights (Are you kidding me?! ALL OF MY LIGHTS ARE LED! What ISN’T now?!)

BUT… no way to do this on a Mac. Seriously?! …great.

So, had to set up my laptop alongside the new screen and use the built-in cam for my next calls. Not a good look.

Finally managed to get hold of our tech people and – much elation – one of them had the same issue a few months back. He downloaded Logitune (free) onto my machine and with one click the problem was fixed!

If you’ve got flicker. Get it.

    Otherwise, it seems great!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI purchased this for work. As I’m sure a lot of people are now; I am working from home and have many Teams meetings during the day, many of which I have to begrudgingly turn a camera on for.
The laptop one was fine, to a point, but I am limited to how I can set my home office up and have a window behind me. I either have to close the curtains and look like I’m sitting in a cave or have them open and look like I’m coming out of the big space ship in Close Encounters!! The other issue I had was opening the laptop lid sent all my desktop icons spinning around the screen and I ended up spending 5 minutes each time putting them back. I lost my system tray a couple of times too.
I no longer have to open my laptop, negating the issue of my travelling icons and disappearing systray. Since I can position the new camera on top of my monitors I can continue to have my curtains open. Even if it does get bright in here, the camera seems to cope admirably with adjusting levels automatically and so on.
If I had a gripe, it might be that the 1080 version is overkill. I have had more incidents where the internet connection can’t keep up and I’ve had to go off camera to avoid doing a Normal Collier impression; although my Service Desk colleagues assure me Teams limits it to 720 anyway!
    Recommended purchase.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve tried quite a lot of webcams over the years, either in work or from home and found the Logitech C9XX series/range to be by far the best, most reliable and longest lived webcams I’ve ever owned / used.

    I’ve owned:
    – C930E: Purchased 2015, died 2021 (cable issues, camera & mic were fine)
    – C922 Pro: Purchased 2021
    – C920 HD: Purchased 2021 (for mother, the 20 webcam I bought her for xmas had a defective mic)

The whole C9XX series/range are pretty much identical, I’m hard pushed to tell if there’s any difference in picture and mic quality, only difference between the C922 Pro and C920 HD is that one has white lights and the other has blue.

It’s shame they’ve not improved the product range in the last10 years as it could be better, but why bother, don’t fix what isn’t broken. The brio 4k is just too expensive and unless you need 4k, it’s pointless and the quality is about the same also, if you need 4k its time to step it up.

My ratings for the C930E, C922 Pro & C920 HD are:
    – Picture (1080p 30fps): 8/10
    – Auto focus: 8/10 (I typically turn auto focus off, especially for conference calls)
    – Picture detail & Sharpness: 7/10
    – Light / Light source handling: 7/10 (can easily have issues but is better than most other webcams)
    – Picture noise: 9/10 (way better than most other webcams, mobile phone cameras put it to shame however)

It’s a shame logitech haven’t improved their webcam line in the last 6+ years as there are a few things I would like to see improved:

    1. Sharpness & Level of detail
If your recording video for editing or re-watching the level of detail is good but an average mobile phone camera would put it to shame these days. There is a sweet spot where the focus is best at (obviously) but if I was to record video on my old google pixel 2 the quality would be far far superior.

    2. Light source & Light handling
If you got a light source in the scene you can quite easily blow out part of the image.

    3. Picture noise
There is quite a lot of pixel noise but it’s better than most other webcams. Again a mobile camera from at most 5 years ago is far superior.

    Summary
If you need a webcam get a logitech C920 or C922, they are the best ones out there… And have been for many years…

I use the webcam mainly for video conferencing on a desktop computer, for which it is ideal, the HD resolution matching the video quality possible with a decent internet connection. It perches neatly on the top of the monitor and works very well for both image and sound. A suitable driver application is necessary to use many of its features. Unfortunately the power line frequency setting defaults to 60Hz, which is fine for the USA but for those of us in the rest of the world it results in screen flicker in artificial lighting.

The 50Hz setting is accessible through a driver application but does not survive a reboot unless the setting is read by the software on boot up. I don’t know whether this works with the MS Windows driver as I use Linux. guvcview on Linux works brilliantly and all available functions, including a zoom control, can be accessed. However the webcam configuration file needs to be edited for the settings to be retained.

The auto-focus tends to drift off occasionally, so I disabled it as the depth of field is quite large anyway. The webcam copes reasonably well with poor or high contrast lighting and the sound quality is very good. In summary, the Logitech C920 is a boon for those preferring to work with a desktop computer and a large monitor rather than a laptop, although it will of course work equally well with the latter.

I bought this to replace a Microsoft Lifecam Studio that had gone rogue. This webcam, which comes at a very similar, relatively high, price is of comparable quality, and performs as one would expect a high end device of this kind. I am mainly using this webcam for Zoom, Teams or Skype meetings and events, along with recording online lectures.

For these purposes the resolution and frame rate is fine. The field of vision is a little less wide than that of the Microsoft Lifecam, but the colour (although a little washed out in lower lighting conditions) is marginally more accurate and the autofocus is far better. Overall I prefer this to the Microsoft Lifecam for image quality and focus. The sound quality is generally good, although with a tiny bit more feedback than the Microsoft Lifecam. Again, I would consider it entirely acceptable for my purposes.

Like most webcams, it has a flexible base. I’m using this to clip it on top of my monitor. It seems stable, although the lip projects a few millimetres beyond the bezel of my screen, which is not ideal. The build quality seems reasonably solid, if not exceptional.

Although pricy, this is an excellent webcam for anyone who regularly uses zoom for work or socially. Used it in place of both the built in webcam in my older Macbook Air, and when that is plugged in to a larger screen for office use. Noticeable improvement over the camera in my iMac as well. I initially bought a cheaper competitor, and instantly regretted it. Thankful for Amazon returns. This Logitech has a good quality picture, and those I use it with have reported good sound. The focusing is sharp. The light control is very good. My computer is at 90degree to a window, so one side of my face could be in shadow – the Logitech software corrects for this well, and also in low light (for example if I pull the blind over the window in bright sun). It has a good weight to the body, and the clamp seem more robust than the competition so it has not slid off. Very easy to use – literally just plug in and play. Highly recommended for regular users, if a bit pricy. Indeed the only reason this does not get a five star is the pricing. On quality and usability alone, this merits five stars. I guess you get what you pay for.

he video quality especially inside of the Logitech cam program isnt the best, however once used on a stream or inside any other application it looks far clearer. You may find yourself needing to mess with the settings a little to get the colours how you want them however this isnt terrible as most cameras need the same.
The camera lights up blue while it is active to let you know your live on cam. The mic is not very good for the typical distance you will have the camera but does work and most people wont use the camera for the built in mic.

I did have a complete head ache with the delivery of mine which should have taken 1 day but ended up taking 2 weeks. This was a mess up with Amazon and i wont let it affect the score for the product itself.

i did knock off one star for the cam program which isnt great and the quality inside of that program. Also you need to have that program open for the cam to work in many programs however it isnt a killer so i only took one star off. All in all for the camera as a whole it is great and i highly recommend it even for streams and youtube.

Golden Review Award: 179 From Our UsersThis is one the best webcams I’ve ever owned. I’ve been wanting to get one of these for quite some time and never had the opportunity to do so. I’ve always dealt wit the built-in cameras from laptops and All-in-one computers. I’m so glad I was able to buy the C920, with the fantastic auto focus feature and the awesome quality of the 15 megapixel camera, it’s well worth the price. This is a solid camera, the build quality is great. Surprisingly heavier than expected, due to the nicely designed monitor mount. It clamps onto any size and shape display you throw at it. It has a very long USB cable that is attached permanently. I’m hoping to see these type of cameras come out with the same USB 3.0 cable as Ultra Slim Portable hard drives include. That would make it a great opportunity for people who love to buy 3rd party braided cables as well incredible handy for easy travel packing. In this case, it’s just USB 2.0, attached permanently, no braided cable.

I have 2 LG UM57 25UM57 Monitors in which I placed my camera mounted split in the middle of the 2 without any issues or looseness. The mount gripped just right and is holding steady. I was even able to tilt the camera up and down to find the right height for web chats. The edge of the mount comes down nice and flush with the border of the screen, no blocked view, which is a plus!

I haven’t tested out the built-in stereo microphone audio since I use a SAMSON C01UPRO Condenser mic. I’m sure I’ll find out once I decide to test it out.

I included some images that show the un-boxing and set up. I was super excited to see that it auto installed and setup itself in seconds. It was literally plug and play. I’m surprised at the intense focus of the lens even when barely inches away from the glass. The auto focus was a bit tricky since I was using a tiny Superman figuring, but I wanted to test the limitations of the camera, and it didn’t disappoint.

I will most definitely be interested in making a review video of this device, which I feel is worth every penny, don’t double think it, just get it, it’s awesome!

Golden Review Award: 95 From Our UsersBuild Quality:
Strong, robust and feels like an actual serious camera. Most webcams feel like an outdated attempt and at a camera but this feels like a serious bit of kit. It has weight to it and the clamp a has a tripod mount. It feels expensive and for a webcam its not cheap. I use the webcam for creating YouTube videos and it does a great job.

    Features:
The features are what you expect. You can control the brightness, contrast, white balance, the beloved auto focus and so on. It also has many auto features to do the hard work for you. The webcam features a microphone but its very bad, unusable for YouTube but more than okay for skype and if you have nothing else, it would even be okay for gaming with friends. It claims to be a FHD 1080p webcam and while thats probably true, these webcams will never get the same results as a camera would claiming the same specs, it is however, still one of the best webcams on the market. You can also pan, zoom and you generally have a lot of control over the device.

    Conclusion:
Without a doubt one of the best webcams on the market currently. Its features and build quality give it the feel and presence of an actual serious camera, which in turn produces better results than most webcams. While the price might scare some people, if you want a camera which is high quality and wont have issues, you cant go wrong with the C920. The reason its 4/5 is because the microphone lets it down, if the microphone was on the same level as video quality we would have a winner.

    Note:
If you get lag or a poor image quality try lighting you room better via dedicated lights and also try turning off some of the auto features. I get a very crisp and smooth image and you should too.

    Pros:
    – Great build quality
    – Great functions such as Pan, zoom, autofocus etc.
    – Tripod mount

    Cons:
    – Below average microphone
    – While possibly worth it, its quite expensive

Golden Review Award: 49 From Our UsersI’d just like to state firstly that I bought this from PC World/Currys as they were doing an offer so it was cheaper than on here. However, due to being so impressed with this I thought I’d leave a review of it here for amazon customers.

    Look and Feel:

Firstly as soon as you unbox it you get the webcam with a fairly long USB cable attached and it even has a tripod mount so you can mount it to any tripod and essentially have it anywhere. It also mounts to the top of your monitor/laptop very easily as you’ll see in the video attached, so you’re basically covered no matter where you want to put it. It’s also very neat looking with dual microphones on either side and a wide looking lens. It is a plastic body so very light weight but sturdy as well. You don’t feel like it’s cheap and will break in your hands.

    Installation

It’s so simple to install – literally plug and play. No need to worry about drivers on Windows or Mac. On Windows however you can download the logitech webcam software which will allow you do do things such as quickly capture some video or photos (upto 15mp). You can also do things such as control the camera by moving it with onscreen controls etc. and even adjust the quailty of the video ranging from 360p all the way to 1080p Full HD. Yes FULL HD! This is one of the main reasons I bought this.

    Quality

The quality on this camera is amazing. It’s an understatement to say I was blown away. Literally, I have seen the quality of many different webcams from ones built into laptops to normal desktop ones claiming they’re the best. But this one really suprised me. The video is crisp with natural light and the auto focus is very decent. I just wanted a full HD webcam now that I’ll be doing some youtube videos but I wasn’t expecting this. This is one the main reasons this webcam is a best seller. It’s perfect for youtube vlogs or just skype calls and looks very smooth.

Overall I can’t fault this at all. The only thing I can say is obviously the microphone quality isn’t super duper but for a webcam it’s still very decent and it’s not something I have to worry about as I have separate microphones for when needed. Oh and the blue LEDs when the camera is on is a nice touch which goes perfectly with my black/blue setup.

Great product, I really can’t find much to fault this for the price!

I needed a webcam to Skype with clients, many of whom live abroad or on the other side of the country. I’ve tried my phone and tablets plus an old webcam I had laying around but none of them had great video and all of them had poor sound quality. After reading reviews I took a chance on this Logitech.

It’s small and compact and once I had figured the stand out it sat perfectly on top of my Samsung monitor. Upon plugging it in Windows 7 automatically installed all the drivers however said it wasnt working properly. Unplugging it from the USB port and reinserting it fixed that. On the downside the camera doesnt come with any software at all so having it installed is pretty useless if it cant be used. However the software was available on the Logitech website and gives a lot of control and functionality to the camera. You can zoom it, change the quality settings and make basic adjustments to the sound levels. A little more control would be better but it is perfectly functional.

One lesson I had learnt previously is that none of these cameras are particularly good in low light so I ensured that the overhead lights were on and a desklamp was also turned on. Running some test calls with a friend showed very clear video with no noticeable stuttering or lag and great sound quality. Using it to chat with clients I found the same – really there is virtually nothing to criticise here.

At 60 it’s not cheap but neither is it expensive. For the money you get far better than expected video quality and surprisingly good sound quality. I was all prepared to set up one of my work microphones but the inbuilt mic is excellent for voice. I had noticed when trying using the phone and tablets that there was a tinny echoey noise which was horrible. This disappeared completely using the logitech webcam. Total thumbs up from me!

I’m new to this reviewing thing, so bear with me.

I produce YouTube videos, with live commentaries, post commentaries, and vlogs, and I have to say this camera is perfect.

    So why 4 stars?

This camera does not work out of the box, and I had to install the software from Logitech to use this. The software is honestly, pretty unreliable in my opinion, pressing the record button, sometimes doesn’t record, even after trying with a forced press, and other mouses, i’m sure it’s the software, however this might have been patched in a recent update. Furthermore after installing and trying for the first time, there was audio/video lag, and I was starting to debate weather or not the webcam was suitable.

After research I found that settings needed to be adjusted such as “TrueLight” (which increases the brightness, great for lighting that’s ‘iffy’. Turning this off for me helped reduce the lag. After looking up “Logitech C920 lag” on YouTube produced results, and after watching a few fixed everything.

The clamp is fantastic, the light on it is fantastic, the camera is fantastic.

As a personal preference the microphone is great, but I use an alternative to capture my voice, but for Skype, gaming, e.t.c it’s perfect.

Looking for a webcam? Get this. Too expensive? Wait, get it, and be happy with it. Don’t waste money on a cheaper one, because I promise, this is the beans.

I fancy beans, off to get some.

    Build quality: 9/10
Video quality with apprpriate lightin: 10/10
    Clamp: 10/10
    Software included: 7/10
    Overall: 9/10

Am I happy with my purchase?

Yes. And i’m sure you will be as well! Any questions and to see how this performs, search TheSimplyGamingGuy on YouTube.

Golden Review Award: 164 From Our UsersI own two ancient Macs from 2007. Both work flawlessly (one MacBook and one iMac) but, of course, they’re terribly slow for today’s standards. They also have early-generation built-in iSight cameras: a novelty back then, which used low-end cameras. These days, after many upgrades and software installations, it means that, at best, you can get 15 FPS out of those iSights, and you will need excellent light to get that. Using webcam chat, Skype, Yahoo, Hangouts, or similar technology means that the frame rate goes down. The bad lighting conditions at home can be offset by some software (like CamTwist) but there is a limit to what they can do.

Current-generation webcams have much higher resolutions, and, in the case of the C920 HD Webcam from Logitech, a plethora of built-in enhancements (which do not require external software). The problem with current-generation webcams is that, obviously, they require much more CPU power to get a constant stream at high FPS. This is not an issue for most high-end contemporary systems, but… what about low-end, outdated computers like mine?

Logitech offers in their C920 HD Webcam an alternative: H.264 encoding and streaming. All this is done by the webcam, not by the computer’s CPU. Similarly, all hardware enhancements — from setting the light levels, hue, saturations, but also zoom, pan, tilt — are done by the webcam itself, leaving the CPU completely free. The result? Even on my low-level hardware, I get at least 720i video streaming at 30 FPS. Constantly. It doesn’t matter how many applications are currently open or not, the webcam will not require much CPU power. It also means that saving videos to disk will consume far less disk space, as the captured stream is already H.264-encoded and, as such, it will be much smaller.

The C920 HD Webcam is announced as a “teleconferencing camera”. This means that not only it will capture the image from someone sitting in front of the computer perfectly (like any other high-end webcam), but it will easily capture a whole team around a desk. In my case, I live in a very small room and had huge difficulties of getting a full-body picture of myself — it meant using a timer and running away fast. The wide-angle lens is perfect for those situations. It’s not usual to see a webcam to feature *both* wide-angles lenses *and* a zoom function, but the C920 HD Webcam has them both.

There is also a treat. The (foldable) monitor grip (which will work on laptops, CRTs, flat-panel screens, or as a standalone mini-tripod; a “real” tripod can also be used, the webcam includes a standard orifice for that) puts the camera more or the less in a fixed position (i.e. there is no swivel function). *But* you can pan (move horizontally) and tilt (move vertically) the image *without* physically moving the camera: it’s all done by software! What this means is that all usual adjustments can be done without moving the camera from its position. A plus if you have it on a fixed position and are unable to move it around a lot. This is the advantage of having a wide-angle camera: it actually captures a much larger area than what is displayed.

Windows XP/7/8 software for all those features is available from Logitech’s website. Mac users can either use the “default” settings or install a (free) tool from Logitech to get access to more advanced settings; it is designed for the C930e but works quite well with the C920. If you’re willing to spend a few extra dollars, you can buy the app Webcam Settings from the Apple Store, which will give you much more control over all sorts of settings, apply noise reduction, fine-tune the webcam so you can use it to take screen pictures without annoying flicker, and store different profiles (useful if you have a laptop and use it at the office under fluorescent light, and move back home, where the light might be more yellowish, and enjoy webcamming outside, where the sun is shining). While every modern camera will automatically adapt to a degree, Webcam Settings will allow much more precise fine-tuning.

An advantage of the Logitech C920 HD Webcam used on the Mac is that it will stream to many applications simultaneously (I think this is thanks to Webcam Settings also being on). This was previously possible with applications like CamTwist (free) or ManyCams, but apparently it works out of the box with the Logitech C920 HD Webcam. I managed to be simultaneously online on FaceTime, Skype and Google Hangouts+, while saving the same stream to QuickTime. Except for Google Hangouts, which shows slightly lower quality and much lower FPS (maybe due to the driver that Google uses), all others exhibited the same image, the same quality, all at 30 FPS, which is simply amazing. I’ve also tested it with popular Flash-based webcam chat sites online, with the same results (again, Google Hangouts has the lowest quality). The only application that didn’t work with it was Yahoo Messenger. It correctly finds the camera on the settings for video, but when enabling it, Yahoo Messenger will always turn the iSight on, even if the configuration says otherwise! It could be a local problem. Then again, Yahoo hasn’t updated the Mac version of Messenger for years, and that might be it.

I couldn’t validate the claim that this supports 1080i video streaming on Skype. Very likely, not on a Mac. Still, it’s clear from the pan/tilt controls that you can get much more pixels than the ones showed. QuickTime correctly identifies this webcamera as being wide-screen and adapts itself to it. Other applications might not (Google Hangouts always turns the image into wide-screen, through software, thus probably a reason why it has fewer FPS than the other tools which just capture the stream raw).

Also, don’t let the webcam images fool you. The C920 is actually much smaller than it looks on the pictures: it’s about 4″ wide by 1″ tall. The grip/clip folds neatly and allows it to be easily packed away.

My conclusion? There are better webcams in the market — namely, Logitech’s own C930e. There are other cameras with wide-angle lenses, some even with built-in LEDs to perform better in very low-light conditions. And there are cheaper ones. However, since the C930e has been launched, the C920 dropped in price considerably. It packs a lot of punch, doing all the hard work of processing HD video, and leaving the computer’s CPUs free for other tasks. I’d definitely recommend this webcam to all users of low-end/old computers who really need the best webcam quality they can (obviously, high-end systems will still benefit from a smaller drain on resources and from saving videos already compressed, saving the need of post-processing them for upload/attachment).

Golden Review Award: 31 From Our UsersHello there,

Having looked around for a decent webcam I noticed this was hitting top against most of its competitors, however I write this review to make one thing clear, the fun effects which might not be all you want it for but is a very welcome feature is not available in the latest firmware, why Logitech have decided to remove this and yet still advertise the unit of having this capability is beyond me, but trying to find out how to use the effects when the software doesn’t actually include them was frustrating to say the least, but alas to save you the digging on various forums like I did, the latest version (of writing this review) is LWS251 which is available to download rather easily from their website, this DOES not include fun effects, however the older firmware LWS240 software DOES and can be googled and found rather easily, although their are some issues which have been rectified in the latest release, myself with lots of other C920 owners find the features in the old version of software by far outweigh the little niggles which have been sorted in the latter release.

I hope this is of some use to those purchasing this product with understanding that it should do what it says on the tin but doesn’t, well It does sort of but not as you’d expect,

Now as for the product itself, installing the drivers was a breeze, loading the cam was a breeze, what I did like is there is a blue halo around the cam itself when using certain functionalities of the cam which is………well aesthetically pleasing, what ever floats your boat,

The mounting is different, where most webcams you can manually adjust the pan and tilt, this only has tilt, but luckily my monitor has pan (swivel) so I got away with that one, but some may find themselves moving their monitor accordingly so they are positioned central in the camera, however most shouldn’t have a problem with this if they look at their monitor square on, I have two so their slightly angled inwards to each other, Its really sturdy and looks/feels the business, picture quality is by far superior to many webcmas I have worked with, just ensure your PC is relatively modern, yes Pentium 4 processors are old and you should at least have a dual core with this bad boy, with great power comes great responsibility!

Now by default the footage you record as video is actually compressed to of course save on storage, but if your a little geeky like me, and have your own video editing software you may want to use your own compressions CODEC, which will give you much better end results, just a heads up that yes while it is 1080P resolution, the quality of your recordings may looks naff, Pixelated, with no true darks but its down to the compression ratio, the more of the file you eat away, the more of the quality to eat away, Simples! Bears this in mind when you about to return it because the quality appears poor, most however would probably not notice, You can set the video recording to uncompressed allowing you to compress as you wish, but be warned the file size is gargantuan, in comparison to default.

Now the audio recoding isn’t dynamic what so ever, I also use this webcam on the side to record playing the guitar covering songs, however the ‘auto’ levelling function on playback sounded awful, distorted and a little like someone had hooked up a WAHWAH pedal without my knowledge, I can imagine this is because it is trying to equalise a constantly changing sound, and in turn you get blamonge as recordings, I would suggest disabling it unless your only using it for talking, but apart from that sounds like a standard Mic, which is fine for what most people use a webcam for.

    So all in all,

Looks good, easy to use, fun effects (albeit not the latest software), good quality video playback, not so much audio, feels expensive, makes friends envy me for having such a cool webcam!, my old cam was Lifecam Windows 1000, which was good at the time (4 years or so back) but this is on a whole other level like, Nokia 3310 with a Samsung Note 2,

If your umming and aaaring then know that this is one of the best on the market currently, and yes Its 60 odd quid, but think of the cost of digital camcorders or even digital cameras, take into consideration the Carl Zeiss Lense, which is a renowned manufacturer of lenses, and you’ll have yourself a good bargain for your money, you’ll regret purchasing that cheaper alternative, trust me,

    Cheers,

    Chris.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersAlways read the fine print.

I didn’t so I bought this webcam without knowing that Logitech doesn’t actually support this device on Mac OS X. Bummer.
Anyway, not to be disheartened I connected it all up and started using the webcam. Thankfully OS X recognises it and lets you use it as the default webcam (as long as you don’t mind changing the preferences in every video chat application you own – although if you have no built in iSight and or your MacBook / Pro’s lid is closed it will default to the logitech).

    Video
Anyway actual performance of the webcam is ace. It is extremely smooth and the quality is astounding. I still have not worked out if Skype is using the camera at 720p or 1080p but feedback from my friends has been only positive.
After searching on the internet I found if you wish to review in 1080p for things such as youtube video’s you can incredibly simply use Quicktime to record. Unbelievably simply solution to what I thought would be a complex issue.
Something I also found out about was an application which is available on the Mac App store called ‘Webcam Settings’.
This 6 programme allows you to edit a variety of settings manually such as Brightness, Exposure, Gain, Contrast, Hue, Saturation, Sharpness and more importantly White Balance. What’t more it allows you to save settings and even tamper with autofocus, zoom panning and tilting. It can also compensate for backlighting. Basically this little programme (which works with every webcam including the built in iSight – it seems to override the master settings so you can do this once and it applies to every application like Skype and FaceTime.) gives you a lot of the functionality that the Logitech software would have given you.

Video performance was what I hoped and expected it to be. Brilliant.

    Sound.
Oh my, how to describe it?
    Brilliant!
Stereo sound is a great bonus but the microphones themselves are brilliant. Definitely what I was looking for and leaps and bounds beyond the built in microphones on Macs.

    Clip
Well the actually clip for the device is well designed. It even has a tripod mount! I have attached it to the back of my 20″ Apple Cinema Display and it works brilliantly. I was very happy with that aspect indeed.

On the whole this is a well designed product which is fantastic for video bloggers and video call enthusiasts alike.
It may cost a fair amount but the technology it contains most definitely justifies the price tag.
It is a shame that Logitech decided to abandon the Mac software wise but to be honest. No great loss, the software I found on the App store is just as good if not better.
