I was very sceptic of this kind of treatment but to be honest it really works especially early in the morning. I was suffering for a while mood swings, depression and many more and this lamp have changed my life. This lamp, as how hard to believe but gives me energy, motivation and I can easily to concentrate to my tasks. I’m not sure why they don’t advertise more of this tool cause this helps me to manage my mood swings and I see things differently a lot.
its very good. looks like a tablet. it has a stand,, it can be put in landscape position, but I found it gets hot that way. you don’t have to stare at it. can just sit in the light. I have not used it long enough yet to tell, though I do think it was lifting my spirits, it says up to 4wks. Need to keep your glasses off. No need to use it on bright days. As I say I have not used it long enough yet …so I cannot give an accurate comment on it.
Delivery was great as usual.
Bought it last year ahead of the winter and I have to admit that it has helped my mood together with adding some vitamin D to my diet. No SAD this past winter, and def looking forward to using it this year.
I mainly use it in the morning to get ready but I’ve also use it in the afternoons when the day is particularly grey. Makes such a difference. I’d recommend it.
The winter blues hit me hard this year.
At the end of September or the beginning of October, I’d get home from work and just want to go to bed. My body ached, there was a growing fog in my head, and everything was too much effort.
I bought this light out of curiosity, desperation, and a significant element of scepticism. I had done everything else—more exercise, getting outside, taking vitamin D, cutting back on carbs, etc. – but was still depressed.
Now, just over a week or so later, thanks to this light, my life is back and full of spring-like energy.
No one is more stunned by this than me.
I use the light for about 20 minutes first thing in the morning, and then it goes on from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. as I read or work on some hobbies.
If you’d told me 60 would solve my Winter blues (and on Prime Day, it was just 40), I’d have bitten your arm off for it.
But if you’d said a light for 60 would solve my winter blues, I’d have walked away laughing.
Now, I’m here to say it has, and I’d recommend it to anyone who gets down in winter.
If you are weather dependent like I am, you’ll be surprised cause it’s actually working.
I’ve been using it every morning for a week and I feel so energised compared to before. Works miracles, highly recommended
Very happy I chose the Lumie Mini over the Beurer equivalent. It’s a nice looking sturdy piece of kit with great light output for its size. Too soon to tell whether it will give me SAD health benefits but have already used it as a lamp to apply make up and do some craft work so it has other benefits.
Lumie Vitamin L: A Portable Solution for Seasonal Mood Boost, with Caveats
The Lumie Vitamin L promises to be a convenient and effective light therapy solution for those battling seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or winter blues. Its slim and portable design allows users to incorporate light therapy into their daily routines, whether at home, work, or college.
One of the standout features of the Lumie Vitamin L is its impressive 10,000 lux brightness at a distance of 20 cm, which is the recommended exposure time for addressing SAD symptoms. The cool white LED lights, combined with the rippled diffuser, provide a soft and comfortable lighting experience, making it easy to use for extended periods.
As a certified medical device (class 2a), the Lumie Vitamin L offers peace of mind regarding its safety and efficacy. Additionally, its energy-efficient and UV-free design ensure a eco-friendly and healthy light therapy experience, backed by a 3-year warranty.
However, it’s important to note that the Lumie Vitamin L is not a one-size-fits-all solution. While the 20 x 28 cm surface area is generous, some users may find it too small or lacking in customization options to meet their specific needs. Furthermore, the effectiveness of light therapy can vary from person to person, and some individuals may require more intensive treatment or a combination of approaches to manage their seasonal affective disorder.
Overall, the Lumie Vitamin L is a promising light therapy option for those seeking a portable and user-friendly device to combat the effects of winter blues and SAD. Its medical-grade certification, energy efficiency, and warranty provide added assurance, but users should manage their expectations and consider their individual requirements before making a purchase.
Neat, size of an iPad. Simple to use, its either on or off.
Would be more convenient if it didnt have to be plugged in but it’s not a big problem.
It certainly makes those dark dreary mornings more bearable. I put it on when I’m having breakfast and sometimes in the evening when I’m cooking supper.
I can confidently say that the Lumie Vitamin L Slim Light Box has drastically improved my mornings and overall well-being. As someone who suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D), this compact light box has been a game-changer for me.
From the moment I first turned it on, I noticed a significant difference in my mood and energy levels. The bright light emitted by the Lumie Vitamin L mimics natural sunlight, effectively combating the gloomy effects of long winter months. Each morning, I simply position it on my desk or vanity while I get ready, and within minutes, it helps me feel more energized, motivated, and genuinely happy.
One of the aspects that I absolutely adore about the Lumie Vitamin L is its slim and portable design. It easily fits into any corner of my living space and can also be packed conveniently for travel. The compact size doesn’t compromise its efficiency at all; in fact, I find the light to be incredibly powerful, despite the slim dimensions.
What sets this light box apart from similar products is its cost-effectiveness. Unlike other devices that require constant bulb replacements or significant electricity usage, the Lumie Vitamin L is incredibly efficient. It consumes minimal energy, and thanks to its LED technology, I haven’t incurred any additional expenses to reap its mood-enhancing benefits.
Having used the Lumie Vitamin L regularly for several weeks now, I have noticed a significant improvement in my overall mood, sleep patterns, and focus throughout the day. The light box has become an essential part of my morning routine, aiding in a seamless transition from groggy to cheerful. With consistent use, it has effectively reduced the symptoms associated with S.A.D, allowing me to feel more like myself during the colder, darker months.
To sum it up, the Lumie Vitamin L Slim Light Box is a must-have for anyone searching for an effective and affordable solution to combat S.A.D. Its compact design, powerful light emission, and low-cost usage make it a valuable addition to any space. I can wholeheartedly say that investing in the Lumie Vitamin L has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Don’t let the blues get you down; try this light box and embrace brighter mornings with a smile!
I have been using this for over a week now and am very happy with the quality of the product. It’s well designed and made, as well as being compact. I use this at my desk in the morning, leaving it on for minimum 30 minutes to get the correct amount of light exposure. It is extremely bright (as expected), but keeping it at arms length when using makes this manageable. It’s very convenient to have next to me when I’m working, easy to use and has made a significant difference to my mood even in the short time that I’ve been using it.
There is no ability to adjust the intensity of the light settings as with some other products, however this is completely fine if what you’re wanting is to make sure you get the correct amount of light exposure, rather than use this as a sunrise/sunset mimic.
I can’t comment on the effectiveness of this device for SAD, however, I’ve personally been happy with it.
It’s very bright and I’ve found that when used in conjunction with a timer it helps me to get out of bed and feel a little less groggy during the year round dark, cloudy, gloomy mornings of the northwest of England.
Ordinarily, I’m a morning person but I’ve really struggled to get up at my usual time and feel awake since moving to the northwest. I feel like this device has made a noticeable positive difference but it is not a miracle cure or a replacement for much needed sunlight.
I was recommended this by my therapist and didn’t really know what to expect. First off, it is super bright! I have to sit it a good bit away from me, but after using it for a couple weeks now I would say that I definitely don’t feel as low as I have been. Will it work for everyone, I have no idea. But if you have the money and willing to give something new a go to improve mental health it might work for you
Super bright and easy to use. I bought this to use as a desk lamp and to help improve my winter mood. Great purchase and very lightweight and not bulky.
I was considering buying the larger model as you get the 10,000 lux at 30cm but this device brightens the whole room so I’m glad I didn’t. My wife was at other side of the lounge when I switched it on for the 1st time and she was dazzled by it. Not used properly yet as the sun is still shining and it’s mid October but will soon be needed esp. when the clocks fall back.
My only ‘complaint’ is that the lamp was delivered in a box without wrapping or a seal on it so I don’t know whether this item is new or a returned item. I noticed there were preowned ones for sale on Amazon. So beware.
I got this to replace a Lumie Arabia I had owned for over 6 years and it’s incredible how far the technology has come, still just as effective but much sleeker and more lightweight than before. I think these are a must have for dark winters.
Very bright light. I think it has helped on a morning, as it means that I get a bit of light exposure even if it is dull/dark outside, which certainly helps with starting the day.
I love this it’s so bright and makes such a difference to my mood and well-being. Love that it’s easily portable as I work in multiple locations so just pack it away with my laptop to me next destination. I use in my desk and notice at weekends when I forget use it as I don’t feel anywhere near as energised and positive: worth every penny
Super bright and easy to use, bought as it will be easy to travel with as it is lightweight and not bulky. Great purchase and very good value compared to others out therw
I’ve ordered the cheaper none branded SAD lamps before and all have been sent back as not as bright as claimed. This Lumie is brilliant, bright and stays bright! This has been the only lamp to help improve my SAD without it these grey dull months would be harder to handle . I use first thing before getting out of bed and it makes it feels like I am waking up on a sunny morning! Brilliant product highly recommend!
I simply enjoy the fact that when i get up and it’s still dark or gloomy/not enough light in the flat, i can turn this on and within a few minutes, i feel energized to get on with the day rather than reason myself back to bed.
I was very impressed by this lamp. Not only functional but looks really cool as well! I use it daily – too soon to know the long term impact, but I’m sure it will have a beneficial effect.
We bought this for our daughter for a birthday present so will let you all know in the future if it works
UPDATE: IT WORKS !! Happy girl and cheaper than holidays in the su
Brighter than the sun! It does NOT however inject energy directly into your veins (as I was half expecting from some of the reviews). Instead, after about 20min, I found myself curling closer to it like a cat in a beam of sunlight. It left me feeling relaxed, and calm and peaceful. And kind of … content? Which is unnatural and mildly unsettling. I don’t know what dark (light?) wizardry this is, but I’m keeping it.
One thing I would note – make sure you face it full on, rather than to one side. If it didn’t irradiate both my eyes equally, I’d get mild eye strain later in the day in one eye.
Really nice but as reviews say it takes more than a tap to get the back lit on. And for the price a remote control l think then l would have given 5 stars .
And be careful the legs fall off if you lift it up so hold the legs if you have to pick it up.
But still glad l have bought this wanted it for a while ..
I’m not sure how I ever survived winter without this product. As the mornings get darker my internal body clock goes wonky and I find it very hard to get up in the mornings, or at least that was the case before I bought this product! It’s been a game changer. I have it plugged into a smart plug and controlled by the Alexa app to come on at the same time every morning.
Over the years I’ve come to realise that I feel miserable during the dreary/grey winter months and I really notice that I feel more happy and motivated to do things when the sun shines. So after a relative recommended a SAD lamp, I decided I’d get one. All I can say is that it worked from the first time I switched it on, it uplifted me and made me feel more motivated. However I only feel like this when the lamp is on I haven’t noticed a lasting effect, but I’ve only been using it for a few days. I like that it doesn’t get hot at all despite being on for a few hours. I have the lamp on my desk whilst I’m working. It isn’t so bright that you can’t look at it, I can look past it to see my computer screens just fine. All in all I love it!
Absolutely love this light!
I have never used light therapy before, but was recommended to try it as I live with S.A.D. (I also take vitD). I did a bit of reserch and decided that this was the one for the following,
1. it has a warmer glow than some other designs
2. one of the reviews has a picture of a cat comindering the light… and let’s face it… if there is one thing that cats know is a good thing when they see one!
3. Nice design
I’ve only had it for 2 days and I have noticed a difference already. I’m more alert and I feel calmer and happier. Honestly, for me this thing is more refreshing than a morning shower!
Hope that was helpful and that you get as much out of it as I have. Also if you are struggling to choose I recommend reading some of the buying guides online. They really helped me.
This lamp is great. After half an hour of use my mood and energy levels are transformed. I’m amazed to say it really works. My only criticism is the power connector. It’s somehow a very loose fit and falls out pretty easily.
This light box only stands steady upright. You don’t want to put in the landscape when using long time or not using, it won’t stand steady.
Not the best design you can find but probably the most cost effective model across Lumie and similar brands. It definitely brightens up the gloomy British winter!
I had lost all motivation to eat right and exercise which has really gotten me down, such a strange frame of mind I am not used to so when it was suggested I try a SAD lamp it was a case of worth a try because otherwise its go see a doctor. I have been using the lamp for just over a week now and i am sure it is working. I think it must really help the sleep wake cycle because i am now getting up an hour early to exercise then 30 mins lamp then going to work. So far so good. Definately recommend people try one. It is so bright my brain must believe its sunlight.
I love this SAD sunlight lamp by Lumie. There are two types of main light and each can be controlled by a slider to brighten or dim the lights. The backlight however is another story. The instructions say “tap” the outer rim twice but really the “tap” needs to be more forceful than the word “tap” suggests. Having said that, once you’ve got the right amount of force behind the “tap” , using all 4 finger tips to achieve it, the backlight works a treat. So the 4-star rating is because of this point only.
The unit looks stylish, the two differing SAD light strengths work well and although it is an expensive lamp, I’m pleased with it and I’m already feeling better about the effect of lack of sunlight with regards my SAD because I know I can come home, switch the Lumie “Halo” on and relax. Therefore I recommend this SAD lamp.
Being a night person, I’ve always struggled to get up in the mornings and to feel alert. Lately I have been suffering from depression too, which makes it even harder to get out of bed. I was skeptical about SAD lights at first, bit doing some research I decided to give it a try, and I’m so glad I did! I leave the light next to bed and turn it on first thing when I wake up, and it instantly makes me feel more awake. I usually stay in bed reading or checking emails for about 30 min with the light close to me, and by the time I finish I’m feeling in a much better mood and ready to get up and start my day. I chose this brand/model over others because I wanted to choose a reputable brand to be sure the light was safe, and also because I read reviews saying this particular model gave out a warmer/more yellowish glow than other SAD lights, and I’m not a bug fan of super white/blue light. As soon as I’ve turned it on, I knew I’ve made the right choice. On cloudy days it feels almost magical, like having my own personal sun in my bedroom! Highly recommend this to any one who need to lift up their mood during winter.
Every autumn I sink into gloom and realised a couple of years ago that I was probably suffering from SAD. Last summer, with autumn approaching and the very real prospect of working in isolation at home looming, I did some research and chose this lamp. It is very easy to set up and use. I used it as per the instructions and found it extremely helpful in lifting my mood on dark days. The light is very bright (but warm), so I set it up on one side (not directly facing me) and used it for up to a couple of hours in the mornings while I worked. Despite the light being very bright, the lamp only gets gently warm. The instructions mention that using it too close to bedtime may interfere with sleep.
I have used lumie products for years now, and they never fail to impress. The vitamin L is no different, making a really positive impact on my days, especially in the darker months.
One of the best things for me is its portability- you can take the stand off the back easily and place the lamp into a laptop bag or rucksack to transport between home and work.
I hope that it last as long as my other lumie products, as they have all served me well in different uses. It feels very robust and sturdy, though I do worry that the stand clips may give over time due to how often I put the stand on and off. So far so good though!
I tend to have issues going into those dark days when the clocks go back, and especially on dark wet days in winter. A row of those can leave me feeling like hibernating until spring so I thought I’d try this.
It’s easy to setup, very very bright! Love that I can use it horizontally or vertically. A dimmer or some way of selecting brightness might have been nice as it could be useful as a general lamp aside from medical use, though in some situations, when I’m trying to work as well, it’s almost too bright! It’s certainly something I’ve used on those dark winter days and I feel it really helps then.
Bought this for my mum on a whim (it was reduced to 50 on the amazon truck). when it arrived she wasn’t too pleased that i’d bought her a lamp that was pointless, as “I dont suffer from SAD, or whatever it is”
Asked her to just give a go for a week or two and see what she thought. i called her after a day 🙂 no change, after 2 days no change, and was told to stop ringing 🙂
anyway, after 5 days she calls me and tells me that she is now singing in the kitchen, shes not sure if the lamp has worked or some placebo effect has kicked in, but i suppose it doesn;t matter, she feels happier.
she now uses the lamp every morning for 30 minutes while she has breakfast and watches the news 🙂
ps, she’s mid 60’s
I’ve been working from home since March in a dark house. I am struggling to get out and see day light and feeling the effects. Have felt I am craving day light, sluggish, lazy, and my brain just doesn’t want to work. A friend suggested lumie and I ordered one. I can’t believe the difference it’s made. I feel much more awake, alert, like my brain has been switched on, my mood has lifted, I get out of bed easier, motivation has improved. I only wish I had discovered this sooner. It’s a bit pricey but well worth the money. It’s easy to use, doesn’t hurt your eyes which is surprising, yet bright and warm. I feel that mood boost feeling when you’ve been in the sun all day. Very impressed and thinking of buying self the alarm clock now!
I tend to get low mood in the winter months, especially if I’m somewhere with small windows, so I’ve long suspected that I have some form of seasonal depression related to the short daylight hours. I’ve wanted to try a lamp like this for a while and could finally afford it.
I turned it on in the afternoon as soon as it arrived, when it was already starting to get dark outside. I noticed an immediate difference – the sort of feeling you get when you walk outside from a dark house into stark daylight, the way your eyes adjust and it feels like something in the edges of your mind is waking up. For me, it’s very distinct, the feeling I get from having this lamp on. A sort of energy, in a way, or a kind of relief. Having this next to you is like being next to a very small window on an intensely bright day.
I customarily sit around a metre away from the lamp, but I leave it on pretty much all day. I turn it on as soon as I’m done showering in the morning, and then turn it off between 8 and 9pm in the evening. The only day I’ve experienced inexplicable low mood in the weeks since I got it was the day I didn’t use it. I have ADHD which means I get sleepy much later than most people, but I think this lamp helps me get tired at a more sensible hour of the day too.
Not sure if it’s related, but I’ve had three pretty spectacular writing weeks since I started using this. Usually I average 3 to 7 thousand words a week, but at the moment it’s about that much daily. I’ve had an incredibly productive time. Most of that’s hyperfocus, but I’m willing to give the lamp some credit for keeping me in the right headspace.
It’s very easy to use, you just plug it in and switch it on. I kind of wish I could buy more cables for it so as to be able to move it around the house easily.
Edit: a year later, I still love this thing and consider it invaluable for winter. It’s to the point where if I notice I’m feeling unusually depressed my first instinct is to plant this lamp right next to my face and turn it on. Fifteen minutes of very close light usually sorts me out.
Being in lockdown in a flat that doesn’t get any direct sunlight had seen my sleep pattern, mood and alertness go all over the place.
I’ve also suffered from S. A. D for a number of years now and find the winter seasons extremely tough.
Looking for things that can help with both my messed up body clock and messed up head I started researching light therapy and one name kept coming up “lumie”
Not going to lie I was sceptical about light therapy at first but after a few days I really felt my mood lifted. I was more energised. Less restlessness at night and overall have been feeling a lot better in myself.
Every morning now I wake up and spend 30-60 minutes in front of this light as I have my breakfast and catch up on the days news.
Don’t often say this about a product but it truely has changed my life.
I have bought this SAD light (although I do not suffer from seasonal depression, just lethargic in the morning) with a good dose of skepticism… I just wanted a nice sunny breakfast that would wake me up fully in the morning… and I have not been disappointed.
The light that this flat panel LED lamp produces is truly warm, very similar to the sensation of a sunny morning. It is perfect to be kept at an angle in the morning and does not cause burn in to your retinas as it is well diffused.
The feeling is actually warm, it feels like (winter) sun on the skin and that is very pleasant.
I use it every morning on the breakfast table for about 20 mins to half an hour and it is a treat I cannot do without now.
In terms of hardware it is just perfect. Very thin, can fit in a backpack easily for travelling, the stand is decent and can be removed and can also keeps the lamp in landscape orientation (just… a bit precariously). The plastic it is made is excellent quality and easy to clean if splattered with food. It does not heat up much, but it gets warm. Obviously it will illuminate a whole room, so not to be used if someone is sleeping. It does not have a battery unfortunately, so not useful camping or on the move, but the power supply is small enough and the connector quite standard if you need a longer cord.
As I said, I started with huge doses of skepticism and lots of prejudices against this (thought I would return it or use it to illuminate videos), but I ended up liking it so much that I want another one for the office. 🙂
The light itself is huge, after lots of research i did want a bigger one vs a portable one as i wanted to be sure I didn’t have to sit so close to it. This certainly fullfills this requirement however it’s bigger than what I was expecting.
I tried it as soon as it arrived yesterday evening and felt slightly better. With colder and darker mornings, afternoons and evening i was feeling a sense of loss for the sun and suffering from low energy, motivation and feeling completely down, unable to complete everyday tasks.
I have tried again this morning and I am feeling a lot more optimistic and ready to get in the shower than i usually do. It could be a coinsdence but I think not. I am looking forward to seeing if this product can help me to overcome my winter blues which I have suffered with since being a child. Winter has always been a really depressing time for me and if this helps my survival and motivations of day to day life, when all I want to do is wrap up warm and hibernate untill signs of spring then it’s definitely an investment.
Potentially 5 stars but it’s too soon to see ultimate results will update in a week
I spent hours researching specifications, published scientific research, and user reviews as I was not familiar with light therapy lamps before wanting to help a friend with depression. Although I have myself struggled for years with getting up in the morning, especially in December and January, it had never occurred to me that it could be helped. I was actually looking for a lamp to try to help my friend, but having decided on the Vitamin L, because of the company’s reputation, the neat design of the lamp, and current deal price, I wanted to try it myself first. I can affirm that I felt more energised and much happier, even by day 3 of 30-45 mins a day in front of my new light. The light is a wonderful warm light which is not too bright and really does feel like you are bathed in sunshine and that alone is enough to lift one’s spirits on gloomy mornings or evenings. After using it just once or twice, I literally felt like I wanted to be near my light to make me happier, and I am often a sceptic of such ideas. I also decided to order a medium round SAD light from another well known company, intending to give one of them to my friend and keep the other, as I would have liked a dimmer function. However, I found the other light was steady when on the higher settings, but had an intermittent flicker on the dimmer settings, and for me, although it seemed a little brighter than the Lumie, it was too cool white for me. That one might serve the same purpose, but the Lumie Vitamin L is a joy to use, looks very smart and really works. I would not hesitate to recommend it, and on the basis of my experience in the first week of using it, I am now looking to buy a wake-up lamp as well.
