Purchased for a relative as I already own a similar model and have had brilliant results
I bought this for my wife at Christmas. She’d mentioned it when she saw it on TV months earlier and I made a note because I’m cunning like that… anyhoo, she’s not particularly hairy but still wanted one. She now vanishes upstairs for AGES and tells me that it’s mega. I have no idea if it’s mega or not, I can’t vouch for it’s meganess but I’m told it is, and her legs are super-smooth so I guess it’s doing something.
I asked her about the frequency of use and she tells me that it’s a weekly thing initially but that tails off over time. She’s using it every 2-3wks now, but she still has hobbit feet so there’s clearly work to do.
I’m not sure how long it takes to de-fuzz because it’s usually done along with a shower and whatever else you female types do when you’re making yourselves look purdy, but I can watch a whole rugby match before she reappears, which is nice.
I was sceptical and don’t normally write reviews but the reality this product really works. Really happy with the results.
I was skeptical but gave in and bought an IPL device after many recommendations. After one session my leg hair is already coming back slower and thinner!
Be sure to get it on sale, the price fluctuates down to 250
Really impressed with this. I was scared it was going to hurt but it’s actually painless, a little bit of heat when on the highest setting but is painless. Easy to use, can already see improvement after 2 uses. Looking forward to using it.
3 attachments and razor which is good for eye brows.
Because I have dark hair, I had to shave my legs every day. This is something I should have purchased years ago. But I was afraid of wasting my money because it isn’t cheap. But it’s the best thing I’ve ever bought, and it wasn’t a waste of money. I waited too long because it does not remove grey hairs. So keep one or two of them. But I love it and have only used it three times. xx
I brought this dubiously as I have very coarse dark hair that I wasn’t sure it would do much for. I was completely wrong, it is fantastic! I brought it for just my chin area and it has got rid of everything. It grows back a lot lot slower, and there is an app that alerts you when to use it next so you don’t forget. It’s saved me so much time and annoyance trying to pluck all the while. No ingrown hairs and they come back a lot finer. It feels like a hot flash when you use but nothing painful. Pricey but SO worth it!
A couple of years ago I had bought a similar machine but a different brand and not only was it not effective, it stopped working after one year. When I bought this, I half thought I will, at best, get ok results in a couple of months, but this machine is unbelievably efficient and easy to use. I just finished my third time using it and I can already see major results. Stick to the dates and the tips of the app and trust me you’ll find the results you’re looking for. I have light brown skin and dark brown hair and it works like a charm.
I have dark hair and had to shave my leg’s every day. This I should of bought years ago . But was to worried about wasting my money, as it’s not cheap. But its the best thing I’ve bought and not a waste of my money at all. I left it a little to late as it don’t get rid of grey hairs. So have one or two of them still. But I’m loving it and only used 3 times. xx
For anyone out there suffering with PCOS and facial hair this is a game changer. I have tried many of the cheaper versions of this in the past but nothing worked. I was spending so much time, having to pluck/wax daily, trying everything to remove the facial hair and nothing seemed to work. I have been using this now for about two months, and I can honestly say it really has made a huge difference. Much of the hair is gone, I still have a few stubborn chin hairs but they have turned fair instead of black stubble.
Some points to note:
It says use every two weeks. I used it twice/three times per week initially and didn’t have any problems. I have normal skin tone and used it on the highest setting without any issues.
I don’t find it painful at all, it can feel like a pinch as it heats up. But I just leave it let it cool down and go back to it.
The only downside is it does heat up quite a lot when you’ve been using it for while so I would let it cool down between areas. It says not to pluck in between but I could not leave mine so I plucked the stubborn hairs and kept using it and it really has made a huge difference.
For women out there with hormonal issues, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) buy this, you won’t regret it. It seems like a lot of money but it is worth it. This is an honest review, I am not working for them, being paid etc 😀 I just hope this will help fellow sufferers like it did me.
Great product, I regret waiting so long with purchasing it and testing it out. Noticed satisfactory results after 4 treatments already. I’m after 6 now and even though I’m not rid of all the hair yet, I see a huge difference and quite frankly I feel massively relieved of how much time I’m saving on an every day silly beauty treatments. Now I can just chill and drink beer in my free time and still be a soft skinned princess. Great! 10/10
Obviously an expensive brand but didn’t want to take the chance and buy a cheaper brand. You have to use this as directed and keep up with it every month on schedule. Hair does regrow if you stop using this.
First time I used Braun Pro Silk Epil 5 and honestly I am not saying that it did nothing, but the results were somwhat visible after many sessions and still were not the expected ones. However, I can say that the Philips one did wonders for me. It is really amazing and it does what is says. I am die my first touch up session, but I could say that I have noticed results since the first session. It is easy to use also. Therefore I highly recommend you go for this one rather than the Braun one if you want better results. The only 2 negative things were the carry on pouch which is not thick enough in my opinion and the fact that you might need to restart and wait for a few minutes if it gets too warm while using it.
I have been debating getting one of these for years, but was worried it wouldn’t work and it’s quite a lot of money to spend for it to not work. But i eventually caved and I am so glad I did!
I usually have VERY hairy legs. The hairs were thick and dark. As soon as I shaved, you could see the dark specs where the top of the hair had been shaved off. The next day, I would be prickly. After 7 days, my legs would be fully hairy! And i mean gorilla hairy! I really wish I’d taken a before pic to show the diffence.
These images are 2 weeks after last shaving! I am just about to do my 4th treatment. I can’t tell you how ecstatic I am with the results. There’s a few darker hairs growing in some very small areas, some areas where the hairs are super fine and you can barely see them, and some areas where no hair has grown back at all.
Safe to say I am over the moon with the results. It’s so easy to use and track with the app. Best decision i have ever made!
Updated 22/05/22
I’ll be updating this review periodically. Theoretically, I am the perfect user since I have very pale skin and dark hair.
At first glance this device is well-built, is simple to use, and comes with clear instructions. However, if you intend to follow the safety advice on when never to use this item… you’ll possibly never use it.
To list a few of the never use: dark skin, pregnancy, certain medications, AHAs/BHAs within the last week, poor wound healing history, skin sensitivity to light, a history of skin cancer, diabetes, exzema, wounds or bruises in the ares to be treated, moles, freckles, tattoos, scars, on areas where you use long-lasting deodorants, etc. Personally, my legs are covered in scratches of various ages from my cat and bruises, and I’m slow to heal.
So far I’ve used the device on test areas, and have used it once on my underarms, and have sometimes found it tricky to get the device to be ready to use. As it requires full contact or it will not work it can take a bit of wrangling to get a good angle. It is well worth doing the test patches before you use it as the setting that is comfortable is liable to signficantly vary depending on the body part.
Update #1: I’m using level 4 on my legs (lower elsewhere) and so far this is the only place I’m seeing a difference. The results there are patchy, no doubt in part because there is no way I’m covering the entire leg everytime I use this – it is easy to miss parts, and sometimes I’ve missed parts on purpose due to open wounds or irritated hair folicles – but there is definitely less hair. Elsewhere is not showing anywhere near as good a result, but this is to be expected.
I do not recommend using the device for more than a few minutes at a time. From experience the device gets extremely hot after it has been running long enough to do underarms, stomach, and a leg, and when it gets too hot the zaps start to hurt. Additionally, despite following instructions to clean the device after use, spots have begun to appear on it. Most of these are white, but there are a fleck or two that a black too.
This thing is very easy to use and the handbook is easy to understand. I’ve so far used it 3 times on my arms and legs on the level 3 setting and my hair growth has reduced by like 1/3 . I have a long way to go but it’s a lot cheaper than proper laser treatment from a salon! Would reccomend!
I got this device after having professional lazer shair removal sessions that worked amazingly. But then the hair started to grow back after a time and I didn’t want to spend that kind of money again.
I was skeptical as I have light tan skin that has tanned quite dark this year and its not the same as lazer treatment but it works great. I’ve done two sessions so far and the hair is growing back obviously patchy (my poor technique when using) but it’s very clear where the hair has been treated and isn’t regrowing.
It does work, you can see the improvement, but you have to keep doing it. It hurts as expected, and after using it for a while, around 15 min for the legs, you have to stop because it is too hot but it does work
I’ve already had extensive laser hair removal on my legs, bikini, underarms and face twice over the past 12 years but noticed I really needed a top-up. I do top-up electrolysis on those annoying hairs on my chin and side of face.
I didn’t want to spend thousands again for another laser top-up (nor go during a pandemic). And I already had an older incarnation of this Phillips LHR so I was sceptical because it wasn’t effective for me last time.
Well, it is now! I’m really please I purchased this! it’s been two months and this time, I followed the instructions ( wait two weeks after 1st go around) and it really seems to have hindered and slowed the pesky re-growth I’ve been experiencing. I have used it on the highest setting (even on my face) and it is definitely working.
I bought this machine as I have thick dark hair and pale skin, but hair removal is really aggravating for my sensitive skin. I’ve been using it for almost a year and my hair hardly grows back now which is incredible! It doesn’t hurt at all and although can take quite a while, I definitely think it’s worth it. I was going to deduct one star as it was meant to come with a hair trimmer attachment and that never came, but I didn’t bother returning it as I wasn’t that fussed. Also it can overheat so sometimes you have to give it a rest for 5 minutes, but again, I really don’t mind. Have tried the more expensive one by Philips and think this one is just as good. I don’t think it’s even dramatic to say that it has changed my life and confidence.
This has worked an absolute treat.
I have pale skin and dark brown hair, so probably the optimum combination for using it. Had previously had salon IPL which had worked very well in just a couple of sessions, but the hairs on my legs had grown back quite a lot and I wanted a higher bikini line than I could afford at the salon!
Did my legs every two weeks for four sessions then again after a month. Now I’m just doing spot zaps when the odd hair pops up, every 2-4 weeks. I no longer need to shave armpits or legs at all, which is pretty good. I just use the little trimmer and then zap, but I’d say there were 10 single hairs total on my legs this week, after 3-4 weeks regrowth.
It has also worked really well on bikini line and above lip. I’ve done my bikini every week, which is not strictly in line with instructions, but has been effective. It works on whole area, even darker skin, although the hairs are a little more stubborn so it’s taken quite a few sessions.
You have to be prepared to spend about an hour a week on this. I did lower legs, armpits and bikini one week, then upper legs, lip and bikini the next. It keeps the sessions shorter. But I’d say I’ve done 8 sessions max and now I’m pretty much just doing upkeep.
My legs feel smooth and lovely and I’ll never have to be worried about impromptu swimming again
I only find it a little painful and warm in intimate bikini area and armpits, where I turn it down to 3 and 4 respectively. otherwise I’d genuinely say it’s painless, even on highest setting 5.
I’m so pleased with this. I hate shaving and waxing and this is a piece of cake compared with those and considerably longer lasting.
I wish I’d bought one years ago.
After so much research into different IPL a machines, reviews YouTube videos I chose this one. My skin is pale and my leg armpit and bikini hair is dark, the rest is blondeish. I started using this early feb it’s now April my leg hairs are none existence I followed the instructions and used weekly after shaving. I use to shave and by the time I stepped out the shower I felt my hair grew back stubbly. It made me so upset on holiday with my ingrown hairs which where painful and leaving scars. This is the best thing I’ve ever done. My leg hairs take over a week to grow back my armpits and bikini grow so much slowly 4 days slower I’d say and much thinner and some areas have stopped growing in patches. My ingrown hairs have stopped as the hair is thinner and I have to shave less I’m so happy . Please everyone try this it’s changed my life I’m next making my mom try it honestly theirs a 100 day guarantee so May as well try it !!’
I rarely write reviews but I know how helpful they are, especially when looking for and investing like this. I’ve had dark facial hair for years, thankfully mostly under the chin, but it has still bothered me and has gotten thicker and more wide spread over the years, despite having paid for laser and IPL treatment in the past. I I have wanted to buy one of these type of things for years, but was never sure if they were worth investing in as they are quite expensive and having bought a home laser kit years ago which did very little, I was sceptical. I’ve only performed one treatment so far with this, however I have noticed a significant slowing of the growth in the hair treated, which is synonymous with the clinic treatments I’ve had in the past.
I was tempted to go over the area again at first, as it seemed to be less intense a feeling than the clinic treatments I’d had in the past (I’m using the second highest-highest setting as suggested by the skin tone test). But having waited a week I’m glad I’ve stuck to the instructions, I did cause myself some pigment discolouration with the laser kit years ago by doing this so I would suggest following the instructions fully with this.
My hair is quite thick and I honestly wasn’t expecting to see results like that straight away, and of course it’s early days and I’ll have to see how the regrow things is affected, but I think the result so far is a promising sign that the device is doing what it’s meant to. I’m only one week after my first treatment so I’ll come back and update this review in a few weeks once more results are clear, but if you’re like me and wanting to get rid of or at least find a better way to manage unwanted facial hair, this could be a great option… as long as you have the right skin tone and hair colour etc.
So far I would recommend this as a good option for people looking to reduce hair growth. I don’t expect to completely get rid of it for good, but even professional treatment won’t do that. And at the half the price of 1 course of treatment this looks like it could be a much more cost effective option too!
UPDATE:
2 weeks after my second treatment, most of the hair on my chin area has gone completely! I’m really quite surprised and impressed by the effectiveness of this device, I was expecting to have to wait longer for these kind of results. So far I’m very happy with it and would recommend it for those with similar problem facial hair, with the right colour and skin tone of course.
I’ve included some horrible pics of my hairy legs so you can see how it’s working! The pics with 2 legs is 2 weeks of hair growth after the 1st treatment, 1 leg on grey carpet is 2 weeks if hair growth after 2nd, and 1 leg on duvet is 2 weeks after 3rd.
I have dark hair and pale skin which is ideal and I think I’m 4 treatments in now, and about 90% of hair is gone on my legs. I’ve also tried underarms but with low success.
I use setting 5 which doesn’t hurt me at all or leave any burns.
The process is easy, but I find it incredibly boring. It takes quite a long time to do both legs thoroughly.
Would recommend – expensive but worth it.
I was considering getting one of these for ages, but never did because it’s not cheap and a luxury I could do without.
However, I am so pleased I decided to treat myself!!!
I’m on my 5th treatment now, and my hair has been reduced hugely!
It’s so easy to use, painless and super quick and convenient.
Hair doesn’t really grow much at all between treatments.
Not quite a five, because armpits aren’t as good, and still having to shave one a week or so – but saying that, that is still a huge improvement!
(For reference I have black hair and very pale skin)
I ordered the Philips Lumea about a year ago and have been using it ever since so I thought it is time to write a review.
What’s in the box?
* Lumea Prestige IPL device
* Curved-in body attachment (4.1 cm)
* Flatfacial attachment (2 cm)
* Curved-out precision attachment(3 cm, BRI954 & BRI953 only)
* Power pack and 2 metre long cable
* Instruction manual
* Lumea App info slip
* Storage pouch
* Cleaning cloth
Before you start, read the user manual and do a skin test.
The manual is a comprehensive, rather dry but easy read. You’ll find helpful diagrams, skin tone and hair colour charts, information on how IPL works, what to expect from your Lumea, instruction for your skin test, how to use it and aftercare guidance.
What does it feel like?
You’ll hear the whirring of the fan and a soft popping sound with each flash.
I found it pain-free with just a slight, occasional sting. But it’s no way as painful as waxing, epilating or threading!
The flashes mostly feel warm against your skin. But some areas, like thighs, bikini line and underarms can smart more because they’re more sensitive. And you may feel increased heat on your bikini line and underarms where your hair is thicker and denser.
After the patch test the recommended treatment schedule is that the first 4 to 5 times you uses Lumea have to be done bi-weekly. I started seeing some results after the 2nd use, after the 4th, there was very little to no hair regrowth. After the initial phase there should be a touch-up every 4 to 8 weeks. As I have light skin but dark hair for me the touch-ups easily last 8 weeks, 8 weeks of absolutely no hair.
I find it very easy to use the Philips Lumea, it is quick and painless (if it hurts you are doing something wrong), there is no mess and nothing sticky to clean afterwards.
I’ve used this for about 12 weeks now and definitely see a reduction in hair on areas I’ve used it. The hair grows back very slowly now and comes through in patches, with some areas being apparently completely bald.
Some cons:
The device overheats and will stop working after extended use. If I try to do my legs all in one go after completing one leg the device will need to be switched off for several minutes until it has cooled down and can be used for my other leg. Not the biggest issue but a minor annoyance.
Secondly it would be nice if it had an additional smaller lens as I have some troublesome hairs on my fingers which are basically impossible to zap with this as you need complete coverage of the lens before it lets you do the zappy.
This is the second hair removal unit 10 x better than the first hair removal unit which the battery discharges after 10 mins of use which had for 3 years, now this new one even better plug straight into mains no charging just use in one go whole body if you like, seems more powerful than the battery unit only now use once a month as a top up for random hairs, be patient at the start after 3 months of use once every 2 weeks you notice a big difference, hairs stop growing back or are small and fine, after years can go months if you for get to use and then only random hairs
I bought this despite being a bit cynical about it making a difference. I had been for IPL professionally and had given up with it after nearly 500 worth of sessions and buying this was my last ditch effort to try and stem hair growth. I suffer badly with hirsutism and wasn’t holding out hope that it would do anything to my super stubborn hair growth.
3 sessions (about to do my fourth) I’m really seeing the impact it is making. My hair growth is starting to get really patchy, with areas that have already stopped growing anything! I’m using it on leg, stomach, bum, face, chest, underarm and arms and so far I’m super impressed and I’m so hopeful I might finally be getting on top of this growth. Next step with be to get the precision bikini head so I can do that! Fingers crossed it keeps going well, but I genuinely couldn’t recommend this product enough.
We bought this as an alternative choice to the VEME product which failed within two weeks of purchase. This Lumea is far more advanced in operation and power and my wife has discovered there is a significant difference in the number of sessions needed using this Lumea compared to the VEME product. Already noticing impressive results, far fewer treatments needed (longer timescale between treatments), less skin burns, less time spent on each treatment. Very good so far. If we had any negative comments to make, it would only be that the curvature of the lenses are sometimes difficult to enclose around the area being treated and so it’s sometimes tricky to get the ‘ready’ light. A little practice helps.
🙂
It’s still fairly early days for me with this product but so far so good. I’ve done several treatments on my armpits and bikini line, 2 weeks apart as the instructions specify. For the first 2 sessions I noticed nothing so was slightly sceptical but since then I’ve definitely noticed a difference. I’d say in a big proportion of the areas there is little/no/very slow hair regrowth. The areas hair is still growing is probably just areas I have missed. I have brown hair (not super dark) and fairly fair skin and have been using the top level (level 5).
I have always been self conscious of my facial and body hair, I had tried several sessions of laser on my face which definitely slowed the growth speed of my facial hair, however once my sessions finished my facial hair started to grow back over time. With each session being quite pricey I decided to stop going all together and ended up shaving my face almost daily as this is required when having laser and because I had started, I couldn’t stop. I had 10x the amount of facial hair growing back either darker or thicker (I know people disagree that this can happen but I did for me!)
My hair is very dark and very thick, I have always dreamed of being completely hair free and thanks to Philips Lumea I am now achieving this goal!
Would definitely recommend, the app is also incredibly handy & helpful.
I’m on my 4th session and have seen a decrease in hair which is great for me as my hair is so thick and dark that when I shave I get bumps. Loving it as it means right now I can go a week without needing to shave my legs, so I imagine after a few more sessions will be even better. Didn’t notice any reduction until 3/4th use so stick with it!
