Have filled this in because review wouldn’t send without me saying something.
This product is more than capable of holding multiple videos, songs, and anything else you’re trying to keep a hold of does a great job what you pay for you ge
Not the fastest disk out there, but great value, would recomend
This is a great product for the price the 8TB does what its meant to, no issues at all with regards to transfers however, there is 1 downfall which is it does slow down your system. would still recommend it.
This product is very easy to install and capacity is good.
Having had a PC suddenly die I know first hand the importance of backups. I was so grateful then that I had external backups and could install all my data on new machine.
This item was well reviewed, the size I wanted and very reasonably priced. As I’m not a “techy” I really appreciated how easy it was to install on my MacBook Air and I have it backup every day. I manage storage by storing backups on a two week basis.
This 8 TB external hard drive is formatted to NTFS and ready to go straight out of the box. I got this because I wanted an alternative form of backup for my HP laptop rather than relying on windows One Drive. I created a system image backup file. I think this feature is from windows 7 this worked but I have not attempted a restore yet. I engaged File History also from Windows 7 but still available in windows 11 and it is working well. If it should fail within the first two years because its Segate you get attempted file recovery as part of the deal with this drive. The drive has no on/off switch, instead it relies on detecting power on the USB3 port which is incidentally its only interface. I found this a bit confusing as the disk is suuposed to power down once no power is detected at the USB3 interface. My drive powered down at computer shut down but immediately powered up again. Unknow to me at the time my lap top although off allows charging from its USB3 port the good news is you can turn this off from within the computer BIOS. All in all I am happy with my new external hard drive.
Decent Hard Drive just works as intended, plug and play, it just works and is quick enough especially on USB3 port. Great for storing backups.
love seagate, i have loads of these for storage & wouldn’t use another make, ( for USB pens I use Kingston),
I would highly recommend
Very good if you are looking for an external hard drive to shuck. Came apart decently well and the internal drive is very high quality. The 10tb one i ordered came with a 7200rpm Barracuda pro.
I have seven (7) of these HHD’s and they hae all performed as advertized. I like that you get 2 years warrenty!!! Just n case.
Very easy to set up. I just wanted something to back up my 60,000+ photo collection and this was perfect for it. Just plugged it in to my USB and dragged and dropped the files in. Very happy with it.
bought this to keep my iPhone topped up on a long flight and fro long days at events and it exactly what was required
Despite the answer to one of the questions, the 4TB version does not have a USB-C socket. Otherwise it is just fine.
I purchased this 4TB hard drive to back up both my iMac and my Windows 11 laptop. I plugged it into the iMac and it was recognised straight away. I connected it to my laptop to partition the hard drive (couldn’t do it on the iMac). This allowed me to set up 3 partitions for the various tasks I wanted to perform. I have found it to be both quiet and quick at data transfer.
I would recommend this product and if needed to I would buy another one.
The size of this drive also means I can use it for storage of photos and video, along with a document repository for all my scanned personal documents. The One Touch Hub comes in a variety of drive sizes.
It is password protected (although you can set it to recognise the main laptop / PC / Mac you are using it with (connected to via the USB lead) so that you don’t have to enter the password every time you switch it on). Obviously if you disconnect the drive or use it with another laptop / PC / Mac it will need the user set password to operate it – so it’s secure, protecting your data if stolen.
I’ve only had the drive a few weeks so can’t comment on longevity and not had to contact Tech Support , so I can’t rate that either. However I have used Seagate drives in the past and found them to be ultra reliable.
In a nutshell, if you want an easy to use back up solution for your Windows or Mac computer this is well worth considering. Set up and leave and it does the rest.
I use the product as a backup storage disc for my Mac laptop. I like the product’s storage capacity and its ease to set up.
Bought this to consolidate both main in use drives, though I now need an external power supply. Restored my backup to this drive and copied the other one over, and am off again.
Linear writes topped off at about 140MB/Sec, reads about the same. I edited some video from the drive, it works well for this purpose but an SSD scratch disk is always better.
For my own local backup that’s updated weekly with one touch, I plan on buying a second.
Great drive but if your buying it, make a backup :-). Buy two!
It had better reviews and Google said seagate was my reliable so I decided to give this one a go. Glad the other one didn’t make it me as it made me look again for one and I love this and suits my needs to store my go pro footage. I also got an amazon hard drive case to go with it which it fits nicely into
Seagate drives, as all drives, can fail. But, if drive failure causes a significant problem, your strategy need’s reviewing. These drives are low cost and there’s no excuse to be too frugal.
I use SDDs (Samsung T5/T7 at the moment) for working – Seagate HDDs for backup and archiving.
Some have said the drive is noisy – i haven’t found that to be the case at all.
I’ll update this review after the weekend regarding true storage capacity for this unit.
Would still recommend Seagate drives which in understand have now been taken over by LaCie.

If using for PS4 or anything similar, I would advice getting some sticky feet to attach it to your console so it doesn’t get knocked off
Regardless of whether you are using as intended, or harvesting for another purpose, I have been running an HTPC for twelve years and have found the Seagate Barracudas to be incredibly reliable. Even the drives running almost 24/7 have lasted for a minimum of 8 years. I have also found that Barracudas never just work one day and not the next, they seem to gently remind you that they are starting to reach end-of-life. I ripple the older drives through the house network storage unit, which runs in RAID1. You will walk down the hallway and notice one day that the array is rebuilding. That is the indication that one of the Barracudas has done all it can and it is time to order a new drive. But even then, the Seagate drives usually hang on in for another two months, giving you plenty of time to order a shiny new one from Amazon. So, as long as Seagate keep making them, I’ll keep buying them.
I’ve purchased number of these devices over the years and use them to archive data. I purchase a WD brand last year but what a faff to set up! WD embedded firmware made it hard to format on a Mac. I decide to try the Seagate brand and what a difference. Dead easy to set up, already formatted exFAT. You won’t be disappointed.
Used for clearing files from my very slow-running 12 year old 1TB iMac. Now working fast and all files safely copied. Portability is very useful.!!!
This product is great for my job as it means I can offload Terabytes of footage unto a local (enough) device when a project is complete. 10TB is great to have and for the price I am delighted. However, the Drive makes a lot of noise and vibrations. This is due to the poor build quality of the product. The hard drive is encapsulated in a cheap plastic material.
For the first few hours of using the product, I kept thinking my phones was receiving a notification to finally realise that it was the hard drive making so much noise and the disk inside moving so much that it was causing the vibration.
Apart from that… It does what it’s meant to
I bought this to back up my many photos and it works a treat. Very simple plug and play operation.
The files that first come with it when you purchase them.
Don’t put them in a Windows10 Zip Folder. It will remove the Icon from the File Explorer.
It will make the file that is intended to help you get Tech Support useless.
Do be careful what you do with this product.
Have only just started to use the drive, so cannot really comment, but it has worked as it should this first day. Hopefully it will continue.
I’ve taken up photography and wanted something for extra storage of photos. This was recommended and I’m really pleased with i
This is a great piece of technology. Lightweight and really good value.
Cheers
Large data transfer usual settles at about 215Mbs
Older model contained exos X16 cmr drive this version has the exos X18 cmr drive.
Ideal for shucking if you buy it on offer.
I purchased it Nov 2022 for 236.
Very good value for a 2 tb storage but not the fastest download particularly photos but non the less I recommend.
I can’t testify to the one touch function as I didn’t use it. When you first connect to a pc, click the “start here” icon. This will open your browser for the registration page. You only have to put your name and email to activate the warranty. Next it will ask you to download seagte software. I skipped this part as I didn’t want the one touch back up. I prefer manual copy or transfer, especially with large amounts of data. I got an average write speed of over 200 mb/s (approx 211 mb/s). I managed to transfer 9TB of data in better than expected time. I was so impressed that I have since bought another 14TB hub.
Just remember, this is a Hub so don’t directly connect it to another hub or you will likely only get 25 mb/s transfer rate. Connect it to its own USB port on your PC.
The drive is very compact and very light compared to the typical 3.5″ HDD’s I’m more familiar with.
The read/write speed was very good, was able to download a handful of Steam games onto it with no bottlenecks.
Delighted to have almost 4Tb of storage available in a small and portable package. Happy with it. Seems to transfer data fast enough. Can’t speak to durability as only used it a handful of times and not had it long. Pretty much worth what I paid for it.
First off, the Seagate Portable Drive looks good and feels sturdy. Its sleek black and silver design suits any desktop setup and its compact size makes it easy to take with you on the go. The drive also has a USB 3.0 interface, which allows for faster data transfer speeds and better power efficiency. This makes it perfect for backing up large files and transferring them quickly.
The Seagate Portable Drive also has an impressive 2TB storage capacity. This is enough to store up to 500,000 songs, 1.5 million photos, or 250 hours of HD video. It also comes with a two-year warranty, so you can be sure that your hard drive is protected from any potential issues.
In terms of performance, the Seagate Portable Drive is no slouch. It’s fast and reliable, with read and write speeds of up to 120MB/s. This makes it great for backing up large files and transferring them quickly. It also has a built-in shock absorber, which helps protect your data from being damaged by accidental drops or bumps.
The Seagate Portable Drive also comes with a variety of useful features. It supports PC, Mac, and Android devices and is Microsoft Windows and Mac compatible. It also comes with the Seagate Dashboard software, which makes it easy to back up your data, manage your files, and monitor your drive’s health.
Overall, the Seagate Portable Drive 2TB External Hard Drive is a great choice for anyone who needs a large, reliable storage solution. It’s fast, reliable, and comes with useful features like a built-in shock absorber and Seagate Dashboard software. It also looks good and is cost-effective, making it a great choice for anyone who needs a quality external hard drive.
It is simply a case of plugging it in an playing. It is as easy to transfer files to this media as to transfer them within the computer’s own memory. It is much more reliable than cheaper “solid state” media which always seem to develop memory problems. It is fairly pricey though.
As the standard amount of memory comes as standard with new laptops this is the perfect solution.
Why pay for Cloud storage with the risk of being hacked when you can have your own portable storage that is totally secure.
Easy to set up as plug and play. This can be used not only as an external drive but also for daily backups so even the stuff you have stored internally is safe.
The only negative I can give for this is that the lead could be a bit longe
It was almost too easy to do a complete restore from a failing machine to a brand new Mac Mini. The only way I could confirml that the process had started was when I felt the device humming slightly when I touched it. The upload was about 2 hours (for 60 GB) and everything switched off automatically when it was finished. I also had much of my data stored in iCloud, so I made a list of all my passwords before I started.
This is my third device of this series, a silverblue, red and now black model. None has failed on me so far, over two years of on average daily use.
I think all external hard drives are created equal really. I bought this brand because of the software which automatically backs up you main hard drive on a daily basis which it seems to do. Some times it reports that it does not have access to the files (which it does) but on the whole seems ok.
Bought two of these for media to plug into smart TVs and another to use as an external drive for my Mac Mini. I needed to do the media files on a Windows machine in NTFS but the Mac just recognised it and started using it without an issue. No problems so far and I will update this review if I get any. It is small – like a half pack of playing cards. The connection cord is a little short, if I was being picky but the price is excellent and the performace is great for my needs. No issues with playing the media and none with the Mac or Windows connections.
Bought this drive so I can store all of my photos in one place. Excellent piece of kit and does exactly what it says on the tin! Great value for money but I can’t understand why the black one was twenty quid more than the red one? Of course I bought the red one! Easy to use and now I can take my photos to relatives and bore the pants off them! Only one con, I was watching the map for my delivery and was told you are next, then I get a text to say ‘Your parcel has been delivered, it was handed to the recipient’. I went to the door and it was leaning against the door and had definitely NOT been handed to me. I’m lucky because I can, I think, trust my neighbours, but to leave a high value item outside the front door and not even ring the bell, I think is a bit lazy on the part of the driver!
