This seems to be the largest of the small portables. It says 5TB but it is actually 4.5TB. But whatever. Super simple to use – just plug into a USB socket using the supplied cable. Acceptably fast loading time.
Good quality product at a reasonable price that provides the storage space I need. Ease to use, just plug in and start using. Be wary of the Dropbox offer, automatic backups can end up costing you more money than intended.
My fault not the products I brought this drive before realising it has fairly low transfer speeds – capacity is good though for the price and it’s got quite a small fan rm factor for the capacity
Purchased this to download my home videos on to to free up memory from my lap top but most of all it is portable so I can take it with me to show the rest of the family. Very easy to use and value for money.
After purchasing a cheap external drive and finding out it didn’t even work (Chinese knock off) from amazon might I add!! Never before has the adage ” Too good to be true” been highlighted at the cost to my pocket.
So I stumped up with a much more considerable amount to purchase this External drive and it does what it should. It hasn’t let me down and is easy to use. Would recommend
No issues at all, it’s a little bulky but to be expected with the size of capacity. I run all my games through it and have 0 problems. Overall good product but I think it could be abit cheaper.
Got this for X box X as I have done with my other console,s , so easy to format to the console , and good price for the size of hard drive . Will always stick to seagate very happy customer, also very quick del and very easy pick up from Coll poi
Simple to create luks encrypted backup partition for linux (Fedora). Backup speed over usb3 seems as good as I’d expect for an mechanical hdd. Solid unit with good no slip feet, ideal for desktop which is my use case, but too bulky and heavy to carry around regularly in a laptop bag.
My ps4 ran out of storage and this was the perfect solutions after previously buying an extension which was of different brand and failed I decided to buy this one and this one is amazing and value for money.
It’s a hard drive. What can i say, especially as i am using it on a Linux system and for some insane reason that’s not what it’s for.
It works.
It’s pretty quick (untested).
Price was right.
Ditto capacity for what i wanted it for (backup).
Was looking for a reasonably priced but reliable external HDD for my new Mac mini – this ticks all the boxes has been reliable so far and is quick for an HDD
Delivered ahead a schedule and working very well. Actually a bit quicker than l was expecting. Although it is easy to pick up and move around, on the desk, l would not describe it as portable. It is quite bulky and not the sort of thing you would throw in your rucksack for a day trip, it does require a power supply. I’m sure Tech support is excellent but because l haven’t had to use it l can’t give it a rating. Currently running on a MacBook Pro 2022. Hope this is useful…..
For 8TB and a price of 110 with a rebate, I can’t complain! It does come with sub par usb-A to mini HDD cable, so be aware of that if your computer is USB-C only. Needs power input but that is expected for this type of device. Had another disc from the same brand that lasted more than a decade so expectations on reliability are high for this one. We will see!
Plenty of storage for music, photos, games, and/or videos. My only gripe is that the supplied cable is a bit short if you’re connecting this hard drive up to a laptop. However 2m cables are easily available from a variety of suppliers and they don’t cost much so it’s a minor issue but one that’s cost this a star in the rating. If you’re hooking this up to a PC or gaming console it’s not going to be a concern. Can’t comment on tech support as I’ve not needed any and, touch wood, I won’t.
Bought this to consolidate the files from several external hard drives. The transfer was done quickly and efficiently. I now have all of my files in one place with plenty of room for the future. Very robust and great value from a market leader.
5TB SEAGATE EXTERNAL STORAGE , Bought for PS5 ,
Does not work in FRONT USB , PLAYSTATION Says to Use Rear USB and then Format , After Formating LOADED From PS5 SSD To SEAGATE External Storage, Game CALL OF DUTY: Modern Warfare II , 110.6GB Took about 21 Minutes.
Happy Now I Can Free Up and Store LARGE PS5 GB’s Files
I bought this as I was fed up with lousy backup options, tried another make – got one DOA.
The software seems open but is designed for this brand – download in advance see if it works for you BEFORE buying the drive.
My computer has a 500GB drive so I went for the 6TB as a decent ratio – so far fine.
Basically – USB plugged into a USB hub, Power adapter into UPS – runs fine.
Nice thing it goes into standby when the computer does.
Not a lot else to say other than the brand is one of the oldest and most reliable.
I wanted a large external drive to save backup of thousands of photos and documents – this drive ‘s/Tb was very good value. It also had to be reliable and the reviews I read suggested it was and so far my experience is good. It freed up a lot of cloud storage so over the next 12 months it will pay for itself. No problems using it with Mac. Seems as robust as other external drives I have. As it’s for backup I won’t be taking it around with me so it doesn’t matter that it’s not the smallest physical size available. Does exactly what I need it to.
The device is very uncomplicated – a no frills little black box. I simply re-formatted it on a PC when it arrived and it became a very good-value back-up device that I used when re-building a NAS drive.
Read and write times easily matched (or probably surpassed) what I was moving on or off it via a network. I had it connected via USB3. The whole process was very simple and this device toiled away flawlessly.
It arrived with some sort of software on it, but I didn’t even look at that and wiped it during the re-formatting.
The next NAS I have to re-build, I will definitely be using this device again. Thanks Seagate for producing a simple, straightforward, reliable and trustworthy product.
This 8 TB external hard drive is formatted to NTFS and ready to go straight out of the box. I got this because I wanted an alternative form of backup for my HP laptop rather than relying on windows One Drive. I created a system image backup file. I think this feature is from windows 7 this worked but I have not attempted a restore yet. I engaged File History also from Windows 7 but still available in windows 11 and it is working well. If it should fail within the first two years because its Segate you get attempted file recovery as part of the deal with this drive. The drive has no on/off switch, instead it relies on detecting power on the USB3 port which is incidentally its only interface. I found this a bit confusing as the disk is suuposed to power down once no power is detected at the USB3 interface. My drive powered down at computer shut down but immediately powered up again. Unknow to me at the time my lap top although off allows charging from its USB3 port the good news is you can turn this off from within the computer BIOS. All in all I am happy with my new external hard drive.
I use the 14TB version of the Seagate One Touch Hub set up for continuous backup of my laptop (using the software “Toolkit” provided). It offers me a simple way to ensure I have my system covered, should the main drive on my laptop suddenly die or the system becomes corrupted. Personally I use this as part of a three part backup scheme, along with a NAS (off site) and another external hard drive. Can’t be too careful !
The size of this drive also means I can use it for storage of photos and video, along with a document repository for all my scanned personal documents. The One Touch Hub comes in a variety of drive sizes.
It is password protected (although you can set it to recognise the main laptop / PC / Mac you are using it with (connected to via the USB lead) so that you don’t have to enter the password every time you switch it on). Obviously if you disconnect the drive or use it with another laptop / PC / Mac it will need the user set password to operate it – so it’s secure, protecting your data if stolen.
I’ve only had the drive a few weeks so can’t comment on longevity and not had to contact Tech Support , so I can’t rate that either. However I have used Seagate drives in the past and found them to be ultra reliable.
In a nutshell, if you want an easy to use back up solution for your Windows or Mac computer this is well worth considering. Set up and leave and it does the rest.
When I bought my new Macbook I need a new portable disk drive for Time Machine backups. I thought one of the small portable SSD drives would be ideal, but the first didn’t work at all and the second took an eternity to do the initail back up and although files seemed to have been created Time Machine didnot recognise them and proceeded to start another full backup. At this point a decided to use a conventional drive. The backup was around 6 times faster with the Seagate and it has worked fie ever since.
im confused by the actual capacity of the drive. I bought this 5TB drive to increase the capacity on my PS4. On connection to the PS4 the machine recognised the capacity as a 5TB drive. After formatting to be recognised by PS the capacity went down to 4.6TB, but no problem i thought. Then after installing 999Gb of data, the spare drive capacity is now showing as 1.8TB, which means the total capacity is now being recognised as 2.9TB. I’ll install more data over the weekend and see what happens.
Some have said the drive is noisy – i haven’t found that to be the case at all.
I’ll update this review after the weekend regarding true storage capacity for this unit.
I have a selection of Seagate portable HDDs that I’ve gathered over the years. Most live in a “safe place” and contain monthly backups and archives. I got this latest one as a TimeMachine drive for my MacBook and, as far as I can tell, it’s doing the job nicely. Daily (automatic) backups seem to run, and random checks on retrieval, work. By having multiple backups I’m less concerned about reliability as it would take at least three drives to fail to have a significant impact for me (as I would then need to spend time downloading from cloud backups). Me paranoid? I’ve had to recover data for people who have lost it without having a proper backup, and it rarely goes well. I don’t consider data safe until I have backups off-site and totally air-gapped.
Seagate drives, as all drives, can fail. But, if drive failure causes a significant problem, your strategy need’s reviewing. These drives are low cost and there’s no excuse to be too frugal.
I use SDDs (Samsung T5/T7 at the moment) for working – Seagate HDDs for backup and archiving.
I bought a 2TB Drive
No problems at all and it’s working how it should.
Worth the money
Everything good so far. I have always chosen this brand.
These are great value and work perfectly. They are smart and quiet in operation.
This seagate external hard drive works on my Macbook pro ,its smaller than i thought but very light in weight. The hard drive comes with a usb lead ,so all you have to do is plug it into your mac & your set to backup your computer…
I have purchased a number of Seagate drives over the years and I am confident this one will be as good as the rest. However, it is noisy compared to others. This could be a function of the size of the drive and the fact that it is doing a Time Machine backup. For that reason I dropped a star from the rating. Will update after a few weeks.
Would still recommend Seagate drives which in understand have now been taken over by LaCie.

This is the 2nd one I have bought, after my son dropped the first one and knackered it. but that is no fault of the design, I guess any brand would break as it has moving parts inside (unlike a more expensive SSD). Easy to set-up, has ample storage and is good value for money.
If using for PS4 or anything similar, I would advice getting some sticky feet to attach it to your console so it doesn’t get knocked off
I’ve tried other “reasonably priced” storage devices only to find that they are not the capacity they claim to be. This one is the 2TB it claims to be (I’ve tested it). The reasonable price is due to the fact that it’s HDD not SSD, but I have had another Seagate SSD drive for years without any reliability problems, so I don’t foresee any problems with this one.
Great little drive. I brought this my Ps4 as a usb storage device. Works perfectly. Moved 100gb from internal storage to the drive in about an hour and a bit. Don’t notice any load speed impact. Highly recommended
I still don’t understand why I can purchase this Seagate expansion backup unit for less than the cost of the naked Barracuda drive inside. Any hoo, if you want to use the drive as intended, it is designated a backup drive because it comes with software pre-loaded and the drive itself has two partitions, an EFI boot partition and a standard NTFS partition for your data. The idea being that you can easily boot from this unit in the event of a PC issue. But for those of us running Home Theatre PC’s, the case is fairly easy to get into to harvest the naked drive. I have all the proper spudger/case tools, but I was not able to open the case without breaking a few case clips, but most of us don’t keep the case after harvesting anyway.
Regardless of whether you are using as intended, or harvesting for another purpose, I have been running an HTPC for twelve years and have found the Seagate Barracudas to be incredibly reliable. Even the drives running almost 24/7 have lasted for a minimum of 8 years. I have also found that Barracudas never just work one day and not the next, they seem to gently remind you that they are starting to reach end-of-life. I ripple the older drives through the house network storage unit, which runs in RAID1. You will walk down the hallway and notice one day that the array is rebuilding. That is the indication that one of the Barracudas has done all it can and it is time to order a new drive. But even then, the Seagate drives usually hang on in for another two months, giving you plenty of time to order a shiny new one from Amazon. So, as long as Seagate keep making them, I’ll keep buying them.
Before I purchased this item, I asked via Amazon questions if it could be used with a late 2013 imac. No replies to date so I bought it, and yes it is functioning ok. Very easy to set up, just plug and play. For good or bad, is doesn’t come with a separate electric connection, just a usb3 cable, so for me, less is better. Sat next to another 2tb ext drive, the size difference is huge, leaving a less cluttered desk. top It’s faster too.
This hard drive is encased in a strong outer shell. I’ve had Seagate now for the last 15 years and to be honest and fair, I’ve never has a serious problem with the drive . If you want a more stable drive change the data cable . Plenty of storage for all your games music etc. The speed is what you would expect for the type of drive it is. Just the amount of space needed. I like the brand and the size so much so I will invest in another one or even two
Easy to use, bought to back up phone photos, very fas
Bought for my son who highly recommends. Inhis words it’s grea
Not sure why there are negative reports about Seagate – I have used these disks for 15 years without a problem. And always bought new Seagates, when more storage is needed.
Are they negative reports by competitors?
Anyway – it is a nice quiet and reliable unit, as far as I am concerned.
.
Works well consolidated multiple drives, connected to Mac mini works great and pretty fas
I tried many different External Hard Drives and return them all until I found this product.
Easy to use. Fast and reliable.
I’ve used one of these with both Xbox One and PS4 with no issues also use one as an external for my laptop.
Nice quality feel, easy to use ans set up.
Not surprisingly, this comes ready to use with Windows, formatted as NTFS. I use Apple, which can read NTFS but can’t write it without using 3rd party software. FAT and exFAT can’t support the high capacity. I have reformatted the drive as APFS – Apple’s file system – so that I can use it as a Time Machine backup.
I’ve had some corrupted or lost backups from bus-powered drives, but this is mains powered, so plug in and forget.
The occasional whirr and rattle as the disc spins up is the only time I notice it.
The drive works perfectly for my needs and 5TB is a nice, large capacity for holding lots of backups.
I’ve purchased number of these devices over the years and use them to archive data. I purchase a WD brand last year but what a faff to set up! WD embedded firmware made it hard to format on a Mac. I decide to try the Seagate brand and what a difference. Dead easy to set up, already formatted exFAT. You won’t be disappointed.
Used for clearing files from my very slow-running 12 year old 1TB iMac. Now working fast and all files safely copied. Portability is very useful.!!!
This product is great for my job as it means I can offload Terabytes of footage unto a local (enough) device when a project is complete. 10TB is great to have and for the price I am delighted. However, the Drive makes a lot of noise and vibrations. This is due to the poor build quality of the product. The hard drive is encapsulated in a cheap plastic material.
For the first few hours of using the product, I kept thinking my phones was receiving a notification to finally realise that it was the hard drive making so much noise and the disk inside moving so much that it was causing the vibration.
Apart from that… It does what it’s meant to
Can’t say anything about Tech Support because I didn’t have a situation were I needed one. I don’t know the correct name of the plugins.
The files that first come with it when you purchase them.
Don’t put them in a Windows10 Zip Folder. It will remove the Icon from the File Explorer.
It will make the file that is intended to help you get Tech Support useless.
Do be careful what you do with this product.
Max speed for large files is 250Mbs region
Large data transfer usual settles at about 215Mbs
Older model contained exos X16 cmr drive this version has the exos X18 cmr drive.
Ideal for shucking if you buy it on offer.
I purchased it Nov 2022 for 236.
Very good value for a 2 tb storage but not the fastest download particularly photos but non the less I recommend.
Although when selecting it says 2.5 inch disc size it’s actually 3.5. Comes with several power plug fitment styles so can be used in many countries. Transfer rates are as expected for a 3.5 disc (about 36mb/sec), so if you’re transferring a lot of data to it it will take time. Once transferred however it’s no slower than an internal 3.5 inch disc.
This review is for the “one touch” 14TB hub. I bought this drive due to my 10TB getting almost full. I’ve been using seagate drives for years with no issue. Some reviews state they don’t get the space advertised. Simple answer you do & you don’t. The “B” in the TB stands for bytes. So, if you buy a 14TB drive you will get 14000000000000 bytes, so in this sense you are getting what you pay for. In another sense 14000000000000 bytes is equal to approx 13.2 TB. Same goes with all the other sizes, this is standard with most manufacturers.
I can’t testify to the one touch function as I didn’t use it. When you first connect to a pc, click the “start here” icon. This will open your browser for the registration page. You only have to put your name and email to activate the warranty. Next it will ask you to download seagte software. I skipped this part as I didn’t want the one touch back up. I prefer manual copy or transfer, especially with large amounts of data. I got an average write speed of over 200 mb/s (approx 211 mb/s). I managed to transfer 9TB of data in better than expected time. I was so impressed that I have since bought another 14TB hub.
Just remember, this is a Hub so don’t directly connect it to another hub or you will likely only get 25 mb/s transfer rate. Connect it to its own USB port on your PC.
The drive is very compact and very light compared to the typical 3.5″ HDD’s I’m more familiar with.
The read/write speed was very good, was able to download a handful of Steam games onto it with no bottlenecks.
