Very comfortable. The touch function works well. Waterproof and warm.
It was probably the hand fitting before I had even tried on the Xuantong winter gloves that led to unrealistically-high expectations of something close to a pair of custom-made, bespoke gloves, uniquely designed to the specific contours of my hands. This is where my journey into the Xuantong Winter Gloves began.
Clear instructions on how to measure your hands so you can choose the perfect pair of gloves are provided. The hand fitting echoed my long history of buying clothes for other parts of my body, best summarised by two words: awkward and ambiguous. Turns out that my hands were perfectly on the cusp of two different sizes. I had no choice but to try on two sizes.
Now that the gloves had been chosen, it was time to put them on, an event that was not devoid of excitement given the initial rigmarole of the hand fitting. The excitement quickly gave way to confusion.
It wasn’t clear (and with no instructions) how to separate the gloves which were attached by a clip mechanism. It’ unlikely that I would have read any de-joining instructions and it’s a fact that I find even the simplest of such contraptions quite confounding. After 10 minutes of grappling with the blasted mechanism, it will no longer hinder my Xuantong glove experience. The benefit of this clip, if you remember to use it and are capable of using it, is to keep them together so that neither is destined for the singletons glove pile; just remember to separate them when you’re wearing them unless, of course, you’re going for the ‘just been arrested’ look.
The first impressive feature of these gloves is that the difference between the two sizes was very small, the implication being that anyone can get very well-fitted Xuantong gloves. The space between finger and glove (for the pair I ultimately chose) was very small — an average of 0.4cms, not including thumbs). Perhaps it’s an optimum space to allow dexterity, manoeuvrability and comfort whilst ensuring enough space for air to act as an insulator.
However, the large space at the palm area was a little disappointing. Reminding myself that these were not bespoke gloves from Savile Row, I deduced that the lowered dexterity was very probably due to two factors: a) the fabric isn’t one of stretch, the design remit clearly being more about strength, durability and protection b) the additional fabric around the palm area was a necessary compromise if stretching out fingers is deemed important. If, ‘on the other hand’. you’re after a pair of gloves that encourage a claw throughout the day, these are not for you.
A critical design feature of the Xuantong glove is the zip which is set at the wrist and extends to the beginning of the thumb. Who wants snow or icy water to leak down onto their warm hands? I want to meet them but, in the meantime, most glove wearers emphatically do not. It is here that we find another impressive design feature: it was impossible to put the gloves on while they were zipped up. Reassurance indeed that cold, watery leakage will be kept at bay!
The zip is sturdy enough, gliding most of the way down to the wrist. The last centimetre or so proved a little tricky because of glove fabric interference. This ‘zip trickiness quotient’ and related ‘zip fiddling behaviour’ then increased further when trying to zip up the second hand with an already-gloved hand. Perhaps a reduction in seam allowance and fabric around this area would have promoted a more ‘seamless’ zipping experience.
One perplexing design aspect is the apparent power button function on the back of both index fingers. Nothing happened when I pressed this area, leaving me to worry what will happen when I finally accidentally trigger it.
With both hands fully gloved and both gloves fully zipped, the glove wearing experience was no less than divine. Hands were kept wonderfully warm despite the Arctic weather, and dexterity was only minimally reduced and only for particularly small items (in my case, small screws and nails). The additional grip design feature at the fingers supported handling of other items. In my case, putting away power tools.
To all DIY hobbyists: these gloves have not been designed for arctic woodworking and should not be treated as such.
To Xuantong: consider targeting arctic woodworkers.
To the person interested in purchasing a new pair of gloves: the Xuantong glove superbly exceeds the definition of ‘fit-for-purpose’
Good quality, works well with the touch screen on my mobile saving me having to take my gloves off to use my phone in the cold weather. They are quite snug for me and perfect fit for my wife, so depending on how you like your gloves to fit, men might want to go a size up from normal to get a slightly better fit.
Gloves are comfortable and warm, good water resistance. Only thing I don’t like is the white painting on top of index finger , really weird other than that good gloves.
Bought this gloves for the winter. Solves the purpose and in addition the touch sensitive for the phones are good. The zip tightens the gloves a bit and keeps the hand warm.
I have bought this thermal gloves for my wife because the cold weather and she is very happy. She even used them in the snow today, and her hands didn’t get wet or cold.
Comfortable, good fit, warm. Works well with touch screen and the zip makes them tighter on the hand for more comfort. Recommended.
Bought these to replace an older pair with the winter months on the horizon. Drop in temperatures in recent days means got a chance to use. Really pleased with these gloves and look forward to repeated use over the next few months.
Nice and warm gloves, I wear them when cycling and doing DIY outside they are ideal so I can still use my fingers but keep warm. Slim look and easy wash. Uploaded a video of the touch screen and considering my screen is so cranked it still responds spot on! I’d recommend
Great for keeping warm, as i started working outdoors.
I like the clasp that keeps them tied, as well as the zipper, albeit i may have bought a size bigger because i wasn’t sure, but even so, they’re probably fitting right.
They arrived in that nice jiffy bag.
ice gloves, very warm and high quality. looks elegant too. fits perfect. very happy about it. highly recommended.
Fit like a glove! The fabric is sturdy keeping the hand warm but with the added ability for touchscreen no more needed to remove the glove to use the phone. They will also do well once the snow comes as that extra waterproof layer provides the extra protection and warmth from cold damp hands
These gloves are great. They work just as advertised, and the sizing matches exactly what they say. The touchscreen material is on all the fingers of the glove (not just the pointer as usual), and works well. The lining on the inside is comfortable and high quality. The zip is also useful for putting the gloves on. They even come with a clip for attaching the two gloves together for storage.
Highly recommended. In fact, I have worn them far more than I first expected!
These gloves keep my hands warm and even when I used them for gardening in the rain they kept my hands dry compared to the standard snow gloves. The zip makes it easy to put on and take off and doesn’t allow them to slip out of your hand unwantedly.
They have a nice grip and the touch screen feature works well.
They state that they are for men… I am a woman with small hands and the size S fits perfectly
Great gloves
Very Good Gloves. They are warm, waterproof and very comfortable for Scotland weathe
For the price I was very surprised
Very warm and comfortable and fit nicely
Arrived quickly and would recommend
I use these gloves early in the morning when running and doing exercise outside and it has been very useful with the weather getting colder. Comfortable fit and keeps my hands warm
These gloves arrived with minimal packaging and look really stylish. The enable you to use your phone and remain warm at the same time. Highly recommended
Originally bought these for work but actually they look smart enough to just wear out. The touch screen feature is a bonus too. The zips on them make them easy to get on and then keep then nice and snug when they are on!
Ordered these gloves as the weather is finally getting more wintry. Used them today on a 30 mile bike ride. They are warm and close fitting. I usually buy size large but if your hands are large, buy the XL size.
The gloves feature a rear zip to help pull them on, a clip to keep them together when not in use, a smart phone can be operated by each index finger and a grippy palm.
They were delivered very quickly and are at a great price. Can recommend.
Gloves are well made and true to fit (I used the sizing guide and the XL fit perfectly) The zip is a great feature and aids when putting the gloves on. Fleece lining is comfortable. I use these mainly for running and cycling as they are not cumbersome and quite light weight but still warm. Great product would recommend.
They’re very comfy and was very pleasantly surprised how soft they are on the inside.
Super warm and comfy. Perfect for a cold winter day. The touch screen finger is a bonus. No need to have your hand freezing while texting anymore!
Great for an active person wanting to keep their hands warm.
