Using the latest firmware, this box is great as a Roon endpoint that can send out 5.1 PCM music over HDMI, which works perfectly for me, as I send music to my 5.0 WISA speakers via an Axiim Q UHD hub.
Plugged my hard drives with all my movies and tv shows into this little beauty, and it’s like a movie juke box. Arranges all your movies with posters and plays just about every format. Love i
Having used a media player for a number of years I know what I want from a box. Firstly played video files from a PC, then it was from a AC Ryan Playon!HD which was good for divx files and low bitrate files but it then started to struggle playing some. So then I upgraded to The Mede8er MED600X3D which coped with video files that the Playon! couldn’t and it also played 3D video files which I needed for my projector. However, as video files became better, more 4k content available, the Mede8er started struggling. More and more times I found it stated ‘the video file cannot be played’. So I had to be very careful with the video files I acquired. I then searched for a media player, not a streaming player or typical android box but a media player I could connect to hard drive or usb stick and play anything I threw at it. This Zidoo media player does everything I want. From basic 1080 media to 2160 4K HDR10, this plays it all. I was worried about using the same hard drive I used with the Mede8er that contained many tv shows, hoping it wouldn’t attempt to format it, but as soon as I connected the hard drive it read it perfectly and even updated the posters and show information with it’s own Home Theatre app (looks great!). I have tried it with many 4K movies (Knock at the Cabin, etc) and TV shows (The Last of Us, Criminal Minds Evolution, etc) and there are no issues.
I haven’t tried streaming, I don’t need to, the tv is in the same room as the Zidoo. I just connect the Zidoo to the tv and play. It is all I need until media files change again with possible 8K media being available but that will be a long time coming. For now, the Zidoo will be all you need.
This plays absolutely everything. The quality is far superior to the built-in media player of my LG OLED.
Picture and sound is great, good interface. If so it’s not a tv box, it’s a media player for high end TVs and picky users who love top picture and sound quality, so to use it as an android TV box is a bad choice, poor control in apps and browser by remote, but I didn’t buy it for that. What I dont like: usb ports and sata are on the sides, so all cables are visible, that’s really nonsense, wifi antennas could be integrated in the case. Overall a nice player for home cinema.
