Without overclock this cpu will run even helldivers 2 and keep just under high temps with a barely opitimal air cooling system
Make sure you pair it up with a equily strong gpu for the best results
Currently using it on a PC thats turned on for about 20 hours a day and used for either gaming or watching movies/shows for about 18 of those hours
Even after months of nonestop use there is no sighs of damage or slowing dow
Before installation I updated BIOS which I downloaded from official website. The most recent version is required, otherwise BIOS won’t recognise CPU. Everything works with no issues. The only thing is under stress test the CPU temperature hits 93.5 Celsius. Undervolting and good CPU fan is recommended.
Going for a full on budget build, I couldn’t have done better than this Ryzen 7 5800X CPU. Price to performance ratio appears superb on paper and comparison sites, and everywhere I look it’s being listed at 60%+ off of original retail.
Installation is very straightforward, but be mindful that you must align the gold arrow on the PCB with the correct corner of your motherboards CPU socket. That will be the one that has an additional Triangle on it which points inward, but your board might have clearer markings than mine does.
The pins are on the chip, not the board, and depending whether your board or your chip is more expensive that can be a positive feature or not. If you are handling a CPU the cost of a good second hand car you’re probably going to be suitably careful, but CPUs only go in absolutely flat to the socket when those arrows are lined up correctly.
I bought a second hand Socket 478 Intel CPU years ago that had exactly that problem, and I was able to fix it with a video tutorial, a magnifying glass and a razor blade, but best to be incredibly careful.
Only mentioning this as I have read posts on tech help sites where people were recommending pushing the locking lever down on a rocking chip. For the love of all things tech, do not ever do that, please. I couldn’t believe what I was reading, and thankfully knew better than to follow the advice.
If the chip doesn’t fall in completely solidly with no gaps or rocking at all, you have not lined the arrows up correctly, and if you try to engage the locking arm you will bend the pins. Mine looked as if it was in, bar a tiny crack at either side, and was rocking very slightly. All I had to do was remove it and triple check the arrows to get it right.
There is one of the four corners on the socket that has an extra internally pointing arrow, in case that is some help to someone else. It was not easy to see it for me, so I initially went for the first corner I saw had an triangle on it (all of them do!), and it was not the correct one.
I’d advise looking for a build video featuring your specific board, as some have much better defined markings than others, and mine was a cheapo board that didn’t even have instructions, much less any videos of it being actually used in a build. Nada. Zilch. None.
Didn’t actually know until I just used this chip in the rig I am running right now (built 12hrs ago!) that AMD were still using chips with pins on them as Intel switched to LGA (pins in the socket) decades ago, and this was my first AMD build of all time.
My eyesight sucks these days, so I will excuse myself the temporary error, but if I had mashed the lever down, it would not have been pretty or easy to fix with my current visual acuity.
The actual performance of the chip? All I can say is that it works. I’m not doing anything demanding on my system where I would be able to tell the difference between this and the real life performance of the previously top of the range 12 year old components with these new 4 year old components.
I’m basically having to force myself to believe it’s running faster, just because it technically should, but with my usage, and previous rig set up, the only definite difference was when I installed Windows 11, it was done in a couple of minutes instead of a few.
I had the ISO on USB, which is the best option by far, but yeah, installing it took half the time it did on my old rig or maybe less. Maybe it was 3 or 4 mins compared to 6 or 7, but it felt like 2mins to me…didn’t time it, but THAT was definitely noticeably faster, and I was not expecting it to install quite as fast as it did at all.
If you are not using a pre-downloaded ISO in a USB 3 port and installing to an NVMe SSD, your mileage on this will vary considerably, by anywhere between 10mins to over an hour depending largely on your internet connection speed.
Currently downloading the newest game I have on Steam, which is understandably also the biggest, and upgrading my PC did not magically improve my non-fibre internet connection, so I should be able to test actual gaming performance in…. about four more hours by the looks of it. lol
Unless you are a gamer, or you do video editing etc, you could probably get away with a CPU half the price of even the 5800X, but I do both and for my humble needs it should be future proof for quite a few more years.
I’ve loved gracing my PC with this CPU. It’s fast enough to knock any task I need it for out of the park. I’ve paired it with a MasterLiquid 360L Core liquid cooler, which gets a bit loud but absolutely more than gets the job of cooling this done and keeps it from reaching even 64C in the most intensive tasks I’ve thrown at it with the way I’ve fan curved it. However, I must mention that the 5700X supposedly has really close performance, could cost less, and has a 40W lower TDP, so if that sounds like you, you may want to look into it instead.

My god. This is a huge upgrade for me coming from a 3600. I knew it would be fast, but this is mental! The performance difference in games is incredible. Elden Ring for example, would drop a few fps here and there with a reshade and texture packs. Not anymore. Its holding a constant 60fps everything at maximum with a 6600xt. Same for other games like Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, (which suffered from terrible stutters.) The 5800x has amazed me. I’m really looking forward to getting my 6700xt next month now.
As for temps. Its all good so far and my fan isn’t that great. I’m changing out my fan tomorrow for a new Peerless Assassin so I think this will be a major help as I think I can hear my fan being a little to active. Temps are still very good though. I highly reccomend this CPU.
Edit: After a night of stress testing on cinebench with the Peerless Assassin, stock cpu settings 100% sustained load did not get over 72 C both single and multicore. Stock clocks are very stable. Boosting to 4.5/4.6mhz. Idle temp is 50 C max. 40/44w power usage. I did undervolt it and did really well. There’s a lot to play with. I just put it back to stock as its performing 200% better than my previous cpu at stock.
Edit:24/07/2024 Still going very strong. Seems to have worn in so to speak. Great temps all around. Single core performance is amazing. I’ve seen it hit 4.875 100% load using Traktor DJ to re-analyze my entire music collection over 4 hours. Could also listen to tracks in Traktor and browse the net watch youtube. Gaming wise really good. With a 6600xt its the differnce between medium and high/very high shadows, textures, screen space reflections. A 6700XT is my next upgrade.
However, with it not being a flagship model, most lower- and many mid-ranged motherboards may not support the chip straight out of the box. But don’t let that deter you….. If you opt for a motherboard like mine (MSI) and face a similar issue – needing to update firmware/BIOS – don’t worry. Follow the video guides on YouTube and in manuals and you’ll be fine. But remember: format a new, small USB2 drive in FAT32, Google is your friend for this and for checking a partition is MBR (if you’re very particular), download the exact version of BIOS required, and rename the file AND extension as directed. If you then boot from a Windows Installation Media drive, you’ll get a fresh install of Windows without any bloatware or rootkits from any device manufacturer!
Very easy to install – be gentle and cautious (and consider an antistatic wristband), line up the triangles, and don’t force anything. Stability is a proven strength, and Ryzen Master is a good monitoring tool; the CPU voltage remains constant after idling for several hours with core temperature peaking at 30C. Make sure you apply the thermal paste evenly, making sure to avoid leaving a blank spot. Appearance-wise? It’s a chip. In an unnecessarily large box.
Clean install of Windows 11 and up-and-running in less than an hour. Don’t forget this chip DOESN’T HAVE INTEGRATED GRAPHICS AND DOESN’T COME WITH A STOCK COOLER, but let the CPU do CPU things and invest in a GPU of your choice. Plus, if you’re opting for a CPU without integrated graphics, you’ll probably be doing something with the cooling, right?
As others have said (and this review highlighted previously), there must be some issue with the Amazon/seller/logistics/delivery process. I had multiple notifications about updates to tracking, but nothing informative on the Amazon platform. I was told, multiple times, that it had been dispatched, or tracking information was available, which did cause me some distress and confusion when seeing other reviews. I strongly suspect there’s some issue between the vendor’s platform, Amazon, tracking/delivery service, and how their systems speak to each other.

Bought the 5700X.
I am using the cooler that was on my 3200G, (Wraith Stealth,) and it’s doing an adequate job, but I’m sure I will need something better if I want to get the most out of it.
Other than that it is excellent value for money.
Works very well for gaming and productivity, as 6 core CPUs are ideal for gaming. In most cases, the stock cooler is good enough for most situations unless you are overclocking. Well packaged as to be expected and very easy to install
The 5950X processor is a beast. It annihilates everything I throw at it. The only downside to this chip is the cost, but that said, it’s totally worth stretching to if possible as it’ll be quite some time before another upgrade is needed and the performance it delivers is simply lovely. Even the intensive apps I use are smooth as butter and it provides the processing power to support the latest games. A powerful CPU like this will easily provide the speed to support the latest games and help the latest graphics cards reach their potential. Pairing a 4 series RTX GPU for example, with an older/slower processor, will cause bottlenecks, limiting the potential of both. With a 5950X, that simply isn’t an issue, it’s fantastic.
So yeah, pricey, but you get an awful lot for the money. I love this chip.
Very easy to install (even as an amateur builder myself). Had it for 6+ months now and no overheating problems, no crashes etc. I have no need to buy from Intel ever again!

This CPU is a really good contender for budget PC builds, as it’s price point gets you quite a lot – 6 cores, onboard graphics, stock cooler, and overall pretty decent performance.
No surprise really, but this CPU has made a noticeable improvement to video rendering software.
One thing to note, when I first installed it there was no display on my monitor. Turned out I needed to update the BIOS to recognise the chip. That required me to reinstall my old CPU. Once updated the new chip worked perfectly.
I upgraded from a Rysen 5 3600 to this and the performance is amazing it runs everything great matched with my rtx 2070 the only issue I didn’t know about before hand was that it runs very hot but after doing research that’s just how the processor is and it hasn’t impacted it after a few months use. It’s also very good for the money.
I got this for a new build miniPC that I built using the ASRock DeskMini X300. Very easy to build, but bear in mind the fan that comes with this processor won’t fit on the board.
Installed 2x8gb crucial DDR4 ram and a crucial 1TB NVME SSD. Then installed Fedora 38,and restarted, and the boot up speed is so fast! You’re at the log in screen in about 4s!

I had problems with high temps on my R7 5800X3d purchased not that long ago, and had to wait for a BIOS update. So I decided to find another processor in the meantime. The R9 5900X price is just great at the moment, so I tried it.
I am getting much higher speeds on most of my own software (I am a developer) and on sim games including msfs, especially in VR.
I am also undervolting and using the same cooler that I have been using since by R7 3700X if you can believe that! We don’t see much discussion about this little gem, but it is perfect for my needs.

I made the title this because this is the second time ordering a AMD ryzen 9 5900x. I have to get in contact with amazon customer services as I received mine on the 9th and in the amazon box was a empty AMD box, the CPU was missing. But thank to amazon quick service they were able to refund me my amount to get a new one and it came on the 10th, luckily was all there and is working amazingly well just a shame had to go though the hassle.
Despite me being at 1440p, this improved a LOT of titles. Games like Battlefield with their high CPU requirements can finally touch 100+ FPS consistently. Or TLOU and it’s now semi-broken port, finally functioning as it was intended (DLSS didn’t do anything prior to this upgrade due to an immense bottleneck).
It’s a phenomenal chip and equally fantastic upgrade. An aging king for a top class platform.
I used this processor in to builds. Both builds were on a limited budget. This enabled me to install a better motherboard and other components. Both systems have great upgrade potential, but for photo editing you would only get at 2 to 5% improvement in performance and spend a lot more money. Thing a different for anyone doing professional video editing, ect. But for some starting out or just doing it for fun or to learn it ok

The CPU arrived from PSSL completely sealed, definitely genuine OEM, etcetera, so I don’t know what these other reviews are talking about.
The problem (speculating here…) is that these do appear to be so much cheaper because they are reject RMA samples that cannot run at advertised clocks / memory CAS.
I am having unlimited trouble running my memory at 3200mhz/CAS16, and the memory I KNOW is perfectly fine because it was stable on my old Ryzen 2700x that I replaced with this.
I had to underclock the CPU I/O SOC to make it stable, which drops a bit of PCI Express performance.
Otherwise, all good, and for like 100 less than RRP I sort of expected these might be re-sold (tested) RMA units.
The Ryzen 7 5700G cost me less than my original CPU, so I can safely say CPU prices are less crazy now than 6 years ago (at the time of writing this).
I’ve gained an extra 2 cores/4-threads, and a secondary, integrated GPU, which is always good as a backup. This may provide more useful in the future as more games add Multi-GPU support via DirectX 12 and Vulkan.
CPU power consumption is the same as my old Ryzen 5 1600, at 65W. However, if you fire up the integrated GPU it will add on another 20 – 30W, which is actually not bad considering it’s a down-scaled Vega 8 GPU.
Overall, I think its a well-priced (161 at the time of writing) upgrade if you’re coming from the previous generation of 6-Core Ryzen 5 CPUs. Highly recommended.
Keep in mind that this CPU does not come with its own cooler. Initially I was using the risen wraith cooler which shipped with my old CPU and the thermals were not great. Such a powerful CPU has the potential to run hot.
You’ll possible want to consider purchasing a reasonable liquid cooler to go with this CPU along with some decent thermal paste to get the best results. So keep in mind there will be some extra expenses if you want to maximise the value of this.
You should also know that this CPU did not work out of the box with my Asus B150m-k ii motherboard. I was getting a black screen only. It was necessary to flash a firmware updated to the motherboard. This turned out to not be as difficult as it might sound, but just be aware that there are extra steps to get this CPU working with some motherboards.
Well I have to admit, the reviews and what the manufacturer had yo say about the processor were all true and it is a brilliant unit. I can’t believe ad to how much it has sped up my pc. I will hold hand up and say that I understand all of the tech jargon associated with this unit. I picked it on what was said in lay man’s English, which made me choose the unit. I did watch several videos on it’s performance and what it can do. I was completely sold on the unit upon watching the videos. I can now run my programs that made my pc slow right down or cause a severe lag. Running these are now at total breeze. It’s performance is exceptional.
I recently update a lit of components on my pc. I am so glad that I did. Buying this processor has been one of my best ever buys. If you are caught in 2 minds as to whether to buy it, then I would take the chance, you won’t regret it.
The only thing I can say that other buyers need to be aware of is that this does run quite hot. I would look into which type of cooler is the heat to run with it. There are double fans with a cooling radiator in between them or there are water pumped coolers. Read into which you would prefer to use. If you have a midi case like I have then the double fan will not fit as there is not enough room. It will fit but with only one fan attached to its heat sink.
