I walk about 6 miles a day on rugged terrain. The boots are so comfortable and the vibram sole makes walking on rocks feel like it’s a pavement. Great buy and I will be buying again next year.
Update April2024. Bought in 2020, and reviewed. Sold by Berghaus, on Amazon UK app, at a steep discount. Still waterproof, as has Goretex protection; only used on rainy days, or if rain forecast. Warm, comfortable, interior not worn; still on original sole. Recommended.
Not tried them out walking yet but bought to replace a pair of Hillmasters I’ve had for years.
Fit like a glove but need wearing in.
What I am impressed by is the price.
Thanks Berghaus – top end boots for the price of cheap end boots
After 2 pairs of Brasher’s Hillmaster in use every day over 10 yrs+ …these seem just a good. Solid everyday build made in Vietnam with great quality vs price vs comfort and a good match for most UK terrains.
Waterproof 10 out 10 , comfort 7 out 10 as they can hurt my feet. But they are the only boots I have ever had that are very easy to put on my feet 10 out 10 as u can open the inner boot flaps wide and no struggling to get the boots on which is really good.
Bought because the boot comes in half sizes,,, most do not,,, so far stayed waterproof and they are comfortable.
On third pair and love them. Once broken in they are fabulous. Last pair I had resoled at 82 so not really worth it.
Completed my first Munro with these on my feet today. Absolutely fantastic boot plenty of support, very comfortable. And good gripping sole. Defo buy a pair of the again. Berghaus at their best.
Very comfortable from the first walk, waterproof and supportive, attention to detail is also very pleasing. If they stand the test of time they will be the best pair of boots I have brough
So far, so good. Nice and comfortable. Keeps feet nice and warm…too warm for a hot day. They look very nice and seem solidly made. I haven’t really been in serious rainy weather yet but they certainly look like they will keep my feet nice and dry.
Fantastic boots, got half size larger to allow for walking socks
Had many Berghaus boots before so I am sure they will be excellent. Gore Tex guarantee’s waterproofability and they are a local company to me as well so that’s always good. (Livingston)
Dry, sturdy and comfortable. Good support around ankles. Good vfm.
Great ankle support if like me you are prone to twisted ankles
I’ve done a couple of decent length treks with these boots now and I’m mostly very happy with them.
My only gripe is the lack of comfort from the insole. After my second use I got straight onto the laptop and bought Svartz Memorex memory foam footbeds. I have first hand experience so know they will significantly upgrade the boot comfort.
That apart.the boots are grea
A fabulous boot for hiking.
As with all good hiking boots you will need to do a couple of ‘bedding in’ walks. If you’re looking to get out for a 12miler straight away get a material boot, but these aren’t as sturdy as this boot.
Despite some of the other reviews stating these boots are “Not waterproof” I’ve had no issues.
After wearing them on dog walks for a few days (I usually walk on average 3 miles a day) sometimes through puddles, long wet grass and mud, my feet have remained completely dry and warm.
As with all new leather boots they will take time to break in and overall I’m very pleased with them.
Good fit very comfortable took a couple of days to break in. Good warm boots for winter and not too heavy. Not had them for long so can’t comment on longevity
Worn on slippery clay and sandy beaches and proven to provide great traction and be waterproof. Love the locking cleat which makes tying the laces easier. Not the lightest of boots out there but study, dry and warm which to me is more important.
My second pair of these great boots. The first pair have been relegated to work boots as there mighty scuffed from many years of use.
My new pair are my main off road wet weather waking boots and they are as good as ever.
Extremely comfortable, 100% waterproof and they have that classic leather styling.
I’ve got a pair of Meindl fabric boots for summer dry walks but my Berghaus are definitely the bad weather choice every time.
Wore for short walks a couple of times to break in. Had a couple of longer fell walks in wet and feet were dry. Difficult to assess how good they are after only a couple of walks. Need at least 50 to see if they can stand the test.
Excellent walking boots . Very good for moorland and walking on old tramways . The soles are very thick and you do not feel any stones or rocks under your feet . Would definitely recommend .
Read a few poor reviews about these boots, but so far, they are great. Comfortable right out of the box, and of course, waterproof. I had Brasher Hillmaster boots for the last fifteen years. If I’d looked after them better, they probably wouldn’t have stared to leak. I believe Berghaus bought over Brasher boots, so hopefully the Berghaus Hillmasters last just as long – with a little bit more TLC!
While they are very comfortable (feels like memory foam), are completely waterproof and look the business, I have to agree with some of the comments about the heavy weight. Each step in these boots feels like I’m using the strength to take 3 steps. I do a lot of walking and am fairly fit so this was a surprise.
Had a pair of Peter Storm “Waterproof” boots that lasted me less than 4 months and leaked like a sieve just walking in grass! – had these a little over 2 weeks and a morning 10k every day yet feet are dry and boots feel really comfortable – the adage you get what you pay for I think.
These boots are very comfortable, if you look after them well they will serve you well for a lot of walking. They are hard wearing and genuinely waterproof. This pair are a backup pair for when my current pair need a full clean and aren’t available.
I never like wearing new boots but seen as my last pair started to leak I could no longer use them even though they were so comfortable. So a new pair was needed I purchased these berghaus because they came in size 13 and I liked the look of them. I’ve just returned from the lakes where I wore them for the first time and they didn’t disappoint comfortable from the start (I have one size bigger in boots) no leakage and seem very durable. Hope they last as long as my old Hi-tech boots.
Good solid boot for the hills & bogs. For road walking they’re a bit unforgiving. Very waterproof, easy to maintain and so far after around 1500 miles they’re still in good nick and soles hardly worn at all. One downside they are a heavy boot so if you’ve come from a lightweight shoe/boot it’ll feel like you’ve got deep sea diving boots on. They’re fairly comfy from the off but being honest it took about a month of occasional use to break them in.
Boots are spot on I wish I got half a size smaller tho, I’m a size 10 in trainers so I just thought I’d get the same but these boots are slightly bigger I think 9.5 size would be perfect as slight movements cause blisters but I’ll just walk through them. They didn’t have boots in the stone age so a blister is nothing.
Compared with my old pair of the same name and looks, the new pair seem a very tight fit. I expect the new pair will need a period of ‘running in’ to enable the leather to relax a bit. The great plus point has been they were available in 7.5 size that I had previously, at a very good price. Delivery was very prompt. Thank you.
This is my second pair of these boots and I can’t fought them you can throw all winds and weather at them and no water gets in, come home wash them with a scrubbing brush and hose them down and there almost back to new. I try and catch them when there on offer and save about 40. Very quick delivery
Have been looking for a replacement boot for my old trusty hi tecs that finally gave up this winter. These fitted comfortably straight out of the box and expect they will manage the hikes and daily dog walks no problem.
Although told to order true size, I went half a size up. They fit perfectly with walking socks. Arrived quickly and are fantastic quality. After one 2 hour walk in mud and rain they were as comfortable as the ones they replaced (after 8 years). They were so soft and comfortable that the next walk was 8 hours and I forgot I was wearing new boots. I Would recommend without a second thought…..just go half a size up.
Had a few pairs of these now and they are good for everyday use but can be a bit slippy in certain circumstances like ice or algae on smooth surfaces like pavements
Having read other reviews I bought a size 47 when normally I’d go for a 46. Fitted well. There was some rubbing on the lower shins the first few times I wore them but this soon stopped. None on the heels which I’ve experienced with other brands. Highly recommended.
A good all round boot. Comfortable, waterproof and supportive. Leather seems to be good quality, doesn’t soak up too much water and dries out quickly.
I found the fit to be generous, so added a 3mm volume reducer insole and still have space for thick walking socks. They aren’t the sort of snug foot hugging fit you get with a pair of Salamons or similar, more of a traditional fit.
Only downsides so far are the low cut heel and the lack of rubber protection over the toes. You need to be a bit careful crossing stream otherwise it’s easy to get water into them. Walking in rocky terrain quickly scuffs up for toe box.
I’d describe them as a decent year round hill walking boot, but less suitable for use in the mountains particularly if you’ve got stream crossing or wet ground to cross.
Great pair of boots, I used them during my walks in Peak District and I did not get wet at all, no blister, nothing whatsoever.
I had to replace them at first as the UK 10.5 was too small for my feet, despite being my usual size.
They external layer is great in protecting you from water and mud, I walked through few water streams without issues at all, also thanks to the thick sole.
Also it is easy to clean, even on the sole.
I use walking boots for a tour round my local woods and fields every day that last just under an hour . I want comfort , grip and being weather proof . So far , so good all all fronts .
In EU sizes , I am a full 48 . These at a UK 13 are in fact a 48.5 – so they are a perfect fit for me.
I purchased these to replace my pair of Karrimors (50) which were supposed to be waterproof, but split and began to leak after just a few months. Having decided to go for something more expensive, in the hope of ‘you pay for what you get’ I purchased this pair of Berghaus.
It’s fair to say I’m over the moon with them. I walk my dog twice a day in them over the fields. They are super comfy, haven’t had one blister, which is very unusual given I usually get blisters with new walking boots. They open up so it’s easy to get them on and off, and have some excellent support for your ankles if you’re going over some uneasy terrain. I haven’t had one leak, even when walking through puddles and long wet grass. They’re extremely warm (although I haven’t worn them in cold weather yet), and fit nicely. A lot of comments saying buy a size up, but I haven’t had this issue, although if you wear thick socks or more than one pair then you may want to go a size up.
They also look really good, even though I imagine for most people walking boots are not a fashion statement, but they do look nice. Great tread aswell.
Overall, I couldn’t recommend this product enough. Do not bother buying a cheap pair, but a decent set, you won’t regret it!
A beautiful long lasting design; they are waterproof, durable and comfortable, they look good and grip well even in slippy mud, which is easily rinsed off – if you buy them, you will agree, I’m sure.
I think they may be a gnats crotchet larger than my normal size 10 fit, but nothing a second pair of thick socks couldn’t fix.
Say goodbye to cheap quality!
Fantastic boots. Love the Vibram soles (they really do almost “stick” to the ground). The boots took some time to wear-in and I got a few blisters – but worth it as they are now the best boots I have ever owned. Water tight, warm and supportive. I use a hose and a weekly dose of dubbin to keep them in shape. I hope these boots will last me a long time – expecting at least 5 and hopefully 10 years (I walk almost every day).
I bought these boots in the Black Friday deals for 72 which I thought was a great price. It’s more than I’ve ever paid for any other boots.
I’ve used them over the last few days walking my dogs down by the river and through woodland areas. Very comfy and waterproof. Hoping they’ll last many years not like my previous ones which seeped water in after a couple of months!
Cant give 5 stars, only just started my dog walks in these boots, but so far they are very comfy, waterproof, made with good materials, sole is very good, nice all round boot, compared with other branded boots I’ve had, so far I’m very pleased indeed.
This is my 2nd pair of these boots. They are rugged and hard wearing. I still have my first pair which are still in excellent condition that I now use for work as I need waterproof boots there. To be fair I mostly wear them traveling and on urban walks but you can easily wear these boots all day and they are still comfortable.
Bought these for a trip to Asia in 2019. They coped effortlessly with the miles of walking through Japan, South Koea, China, New Zealand, Vanuatu and Fiji. Couple of years on they are still going strong, no significant ware to soles and leather still in pristine condition. Just wax regularly (as you should anyway). I see no reason why these won’t last for a good number of years to come. Don’t hesitate to purchase. Worth every penny.
These are a really beautiful pair of boots.
I use them every day when walking the dog and whatever the time of year the grass is always wet in the early morning but now my feet stay dry – the first pair of boots or shoes I have had where I can say this.
They are exceptionally easy to get on and off because the top 3 rows of cleats are just open hooks so the laces slip in and out easily.
I got size 11.5 and it may be the first time in my life I have boots that fit well since half sizes are a bit rare. There’s no need to order anything other than your normal size, they will fit.
They are extremely comfortable, it’s tempting to keep them on in the house as they are more comfortable than my slippers.
Finally I can drive in them so I can put them on in the house, drive to the local common, walk the mutt then drive home in them, so much better than trying to change boots while standing on one leg on wet grass!
Overall I am delighted and hope they will wear well.
I have had these for a month and they had a lot wear in the snow and slush. They are completely waterproof and comfortable to walk in. I have walked a lot around towns in the snow and ice and there was good grip and warmth. They feel really snug. I am an 8.5 UK and the 8.5 UK fit me perfectly. There is no visible sign of wear yet so they appear to be very well made.
Moderately expensive walking boots, I hope I invested wisely.
Out of the box these boots were very comfortable, no need to break in, two good walks with dog and feeling more comfortable.
Look smart, and ooze quality.
My only reservation is the cleats/tread on the sole part of the boot, they appear quite sparse and may wear quickly, I do understand the spacing is to release mud from the tread but I have high hopes. I will keep you all informed of progress with these boots.
August 18 2016 Update.
Boots still look very smart after almost daily wear for dog walking, they have been and remain waterproof, very comfortable.
My one worry was the ruggedness of the sole and as I suspected the tread on the sole and heel has worn away in places, I hope these boots will re-heel and sole, the effort and cost will be worth it the boots otherwise are excellent
Late November 2016.
Soles completely worn out, disappointing how quickly they have worn.
On the positive side the boots remain smart, waterproof and very comfortable. The local cobbler has fully resoled these boots (45) If I get best part of another year out of them all not lost.
I suppose things are not made to last anymore.
