Making up the vacuum pipe is a bit of an effort especially as you need to make sure the bag clips are aligned. However once you’ve done it it works really well a powerful blower and good suction on the vacuum. It is as always heavy and somewhat cumbersome but the body/shoulder strap takes much of the weigh
This is a great buy, with a garden full of leaves it’s now a breeze to keep tidy. The only downside is the height of the vac when fully assembled it’s to tall for me although I tend to keep the last large tube off in assembly which is easier with being a shorter person. I would highly recommend this especially with the adjustable power.
Easy to assemble, although I can’t get main tubes apart again so maybe slid on not quite right. Good functions, full control on adaptable suction so can pick up dry garden debris without fully sucking up stones/chippings. Good strap to support weight while in use. Sturdy large zip on big bag to make emptying easy. Very long cable – can reach whole garden. This will be useful throughout the year as each season we seem to have all sorts blow into the garden!
This does a good job on suck and blow, but takes minutes to go from one to the other.
I miss my old Flymo which went from suck to blow instantly.
The 100% metal fan and shredder which makes this machine very efficient at sucking up and shredding compared with the previous cheaper vac/shredder that it has replaced.
I also like the design which means that the collected material is sent directly down into the collection bag thereby reducing the possibility of a blockage.
My previous garden vac/shredder blower sent the material round a u shaped bend before depositing it in the collection bag.
This u bend meant that blockages occurred every time I used it.
This doesn’t happen now with this machine.
Finally the fan/shredder is 100% metal which makes it very efficient.
My old machine had a plastic fan with only two tiny metal blades doing the shredding. This was very impractical and inefficient.
Just to be clear the review question for this asks for stars for drying power (I put 4 stars as not sure what they mean as this doesn’t dry anything). However for blowing leaves and small debris and then hoovering them up it is 5* all the way. The blower is very useful in that you can lower and raise the power as required (which can be very useful when getting leaves from corners and gravel). Great for blowing leaves off gravel without blowing gravel everywhere. As a vacuum it works great, but suggest don’t use when ground is wet as it will suck up mud that will clog the pipe and mechanism (but won’t stop it ,it just makes a funny noise and then you dismantle it and clear the mud from the area around the shredder and from the suction pipe. Shredder works great (proper metal shredder) and really reduces the volume of the leaves hugely. Also, unlike some other similar machines I have read about, the bag appears very robust and I’ve had no problem with the zipper (good old Bosch). One final thing, some reviews have said it is a faff to remove the screw when switching between suction and blowing. This is true, but this makes the machine appear robust and is very good for safety as you can hear a click when the current cut-out engages and disengages when you screw it in all the way. If you are in the market for one of these for a small to medium size garden then this is pretty much perfect.
This was a right pain to put together. I mean how hard does it have to be to put a simple plastic tube together?
Once it’s together the ease of use is high. The fan is powerful enough when blowing to show Sir Isaac Newton was spot on given the force is enough to push the fan body backwards. The suck is spectacular if you put it on full. Leaves, sticks, stones, small animals, small children are taken into the gaping maw of the almost impossible to assemble tube. The bag is huge too, and importantly the shredding function means you can get a vast quantity of debris in their before you need to empty it.
Minor grips? It’s loud. The bag comes un clipped sometimes.
I’ve only used this once and it worked well. Easy enough to put together but not the best to store unless you take the nozzle apart each time – it’s long. I have only used the suction attachment not the blower. I actually had my 7 yr old nephew use it and he did not struggle till the bag got heavier ( I took the weight). So far it feels like a good piece of kit – sturdy and powerful. I’m dealing with a giant oak and 2 London Birch – every leaf has failed. So far so good.
You have a choice of two types of garden vac/mulcher/blower. The first has two permanently connected tubes one for suck one for blow and generally come with small wheels to rest on the lawn/path; the second has two tubes but they need to be swopped to change from suck to blow.
If you are expecting to rapidly clear a large area of leaves neither of these are not time efficient; far better to rake into a pile and then vac.
The main use is for clearing debris from flower beds and where leaves have collected in nooks and crannies or against walls. The twin tube models are better if you wish to quickly change from blow to suck but that is all!! When it comes to clearing flower beds or nooks and crannies with the vacuum tube, the blow tube and wheels get in the way and add to the weight.
As to the difference in how they work; on vacuum the twin tube models spin the debris around the impeller and case and then out, the other sucks it into the front of the impeller and then spins it out. Does it matter? Yes, spinning around the impeller causes more blockages!
How do I find this particular model of blower/vac? Brilliant. I am 5feet 10 inches and 70+ years old. For me,the balance with or without the suspension strap is perfect, it blows well as they all seem to do and it vacuums really well, in fact sometimes too well (who bothers turning the power down just pull it further away) meaning gravel and dog poo sometimes get sucked up.
The only downside is it takes me two minutes to change from blow tube to suck tube but that can be annoying.
I first bought one of these at the beginning of last year and, initially, it was fine. When I came to use it this year I quickly discovered that the there was something wrong with the vacuum aspect. Shredded leaves were shooting out of the collection bag.
On inspection, it was evident that the inner elements of the bag had rotted leaving two fairly large holes within the fabric. My suspicion is that I had stored the bag after last usage whilst the fabric was still wet.
My previous vacuum/blower had been an American built Ryobi. I’d had it for around 30 years but, eventually, the motor gave in. The canvas bag it came with was by now dirty but just as strong as it had always been.
In contrast, the Bosch bag is made of fairly flimsy (and probably cheap) cotton like material. After usage, it’s essential that you dry it out completely before storage otherwise there’s a good chance it will rot like mine had done.
If at all possible, try not to collect leaves if they’re wet. Difficult to do these days with the weather patterns we have to endure, but if the leaves are dry they will shred so much better than if they’re wet; added to this there’ll be less clogging in both the collection tube and when they leave the shredder.
The best possible advice I can give you is don’t live next to a wood.
I bought this vacuum having had a new big (4 car) driveway laid in a light colour blocks, I wanted to reduce leaves rotting into it and making it grubby, there are a few small trees in my Close that gift me their leaves. Not interested in the blower function so I can’t rate that, I wanted a powerful vacuum. This function it meets my expectations very well. Its also good for picking up all that yucky moss that comes off the roof after a lot of rain.
I chose this model for its tough metal fan blade, some others are plastic and won’t last.
Now be careful! this is the strongest 3000W model, Bosch make some other version that look virtually the same but have far less power, they might look bargains, but won’t perform, check the power!
The 3000 picks up even wet leaves very well.
I agree with others, the very long fixing screw to change the configuration until it triggers the failsafe switch as it seem an unnecessarily long thread, but as I will only leave it as a vacuum it doesn’t bother me.
All in all great value for a Bosch quality tool.
Very, very pleased with this purchase. Great design. Clever Bosch technology. Sound reliability, with variable speed options. Low noise (despite what others say!!!) Easy bag handling from attachment to emptying, with clever bag flaps on either side to prevent spillage from whatever receptacle you’re emptying into. I love that you can change it from a leaf hoover to a leaf blower – but you can’t have both at the same time. Just two things to bear in mind …
1. DO NOT attempt to hoover up wet leaves with it – it will jam all of the time and you’ll spend an age freeing it off and, eventually, it will simply burn out the motor. They are really not meant to be used in the wet. Trust me on this!
2. DO NOT turn it on and simply try to run it for half an hour or more, without giving it (and you!) a bit of a rest. It isn’t built or designed to do that. Treat it gently and use it carefully and I am certain that it will give you many years of contented service.
Lovely packaging, excellent design and quality craftsmanship – it is a very valuable addition to my gardening arsenal and I am delighted with it.
Bought this electric corded vac blower instead of a battery operated one because I have a bigger garden than a courtyard and so needed constant power for longer than the average bosche battery vac or blower. Quality seems good and it’s fairly big in size but was easy to assemble a bit noisy as you would expect but not deafening.if you have shrubs close together then it’s difficult to manure around with bag on for vac setting so it was easier to use the blower which is very powerful even on the low setting and blow them into a pile then vac.It was used on grass on high but I suggest using lower setting for gravel and bark as these can be easily sucked up into the shredding part of the machine which it cant process through the shredder part and you risk breaking the vac blower .Very pleased with this product and it made the job so much easier and quicker than a rake and a broom.Great value for money
I bought this as a replacement for an old blower/ vac which also had dual fuction by moving a lever however this one has completely separate functions by using separate parts you have to put together yourself. I mainly use this in the vac position so not a major issue for me as I leave it already assembled ready to use like that. I can really understand the negative criticism of this product if you would regularly use both fuctions as it a bit of a chore to change over. The product itself is very powerful in both vac and blow but quite heavy to use hence the provided shoulder strap. I would say this is more suitable for the med/ large garden given the 50L collection bag. Overall it looks like it would be a very reliable product but could do with improvement in its design and weight.
To heavy for me to use the blower was good but the Collette was to heavy even with the strap round my shoulders there where no wheels to push it along,I have given it away because I can’t use i
What I liked was the powerful suction/leaf shredding capability along with a large volume collection bag that was easy to open when disposing of the contents. Very pleased with results in my yard. It is also easy to dismantle the hose/tube from the body for cleaning.
Beware the bag attachment is cumbersome and as you collect more rubbish it gets heavy so doing a large area is tiring even with when emptying the bad several times.
What I was not keen on was the electric flex (which is long enough) but on the UK version, permanently attached. The continental variant has a plug/socket arrangement so you can detached the bulk of the cable from the machine. This would make storage after use neater and simple
A very good leaf blower and vac/shredder
You have to change tube over for vacuum but it is not hard to do, also collection bag good guality and good support by way it attaches to machine
Also has a metal fan/shredder blade which is quality, old one had a plastic one and eventually broke.
Blower variable and is more than enough for what I need can highly recommend.
Robust easy to assemble works very well apart from the zip on the collection bag tends to open by its self in use and discharges the bag contents if you are not vigila
This does what it says on the box easy to put together easy to handle. Very powerful picks up leaves and debris but not strong enough to shred twigs. Came on time very happy would recommend.
Purchased this Bosch leaf collector as it was a real pain constantly bending over to pick up large amounts of leaves and general garden rubbish, works for me perfectly and very easy to use and put together, never buy anything else but Bosch as the products are always such high quality
Have sucked up a lot of leaves, enough to 3/4 fill my compost bin.
The tube and fan needed unclogging several times due to damp leaves, which is probably fairly inevitable…
Not tried it as a blower yet…
Had it for a year now – does the job well. Plenty of suction and the blades are metal so they don’t get damaged when you suck up something a bit tough.
Unless you want to pick up leaves from an entire forest, the 2300 kw machine is perfect for the average size garden (it is also 2 kg lighter than the 3000-kw model). With its variable speed/power control, you only pick up leaves and not the bark chippings which may be resting on your flowerbeds. Leaves are simply shredded by an internal rotating bladed metal plate. Should your appliance clog up with leaves, there is easy access both to the where the leaves enter aswell as after shredding and on their way to the storage bag. A great machine. Would thoroughly recommend it.
Works well but has a few ergonomic issues.
Fiddly to change from being a blower to vacuum. Not convinced by the longevity of the power button/control.
Not easy to assemble. You have to figure out that it’s been delivered with the leaf blower fan attached. We wanted to attach vac head. The vac pipes are very tight & difficult to align. Once you’ve done that & got it working it does a good job. The bag is hard to remove the first time but easier with more use. It’s quite heavy too for a slightly built woman but I imagine not too hard if you’re of medium or larger stature.
I’m being a bit harsh as it is well made. All in all its worth the money
Fiddely to assemble.
Switch from blow to suck is cumbersome.
Otherwise does what it should, powerful suction and blow.
Very pleased with this Leaf Blower and Suction. Would be better if not hooked up by a cable but it does its job very well.
Liked power of unit but slightly heavier than imagined. Overall a high quality tool.
This kit is really well designed for the purpose, from the positioning of the strap, down to the orientation of the bag for vacuum, the variable power, even the location of the zip when emptying the leaves out. I’d give it five stars but for the cable (the flex is far too inflexible so in cooler weather it sticks in loops and catches anything if you aren’t careful) and the intake is just a bit too easy to block. However, these are minor issues, and while some folks may complain about swapping the blower for the vac configuration (bit of practice it takes about 60 seconds), and the length of the cable, these are all really OK. The bag is easy enough to remove (although the trick is to lift the blower so the weight of the bag pulls it off, rather than try to pull the bag away), the bag is very large, the shredding action is excellent (the cutter is metal), the blower is nice and powerful. Used for four collections over the last couple of months so still looking to see how well the motor lasts and whether any parts fail too quickly through wear and tear but looks good so far.
I have found this slightly heavier than i expected and even on the shortest setting, the strap is a bit long for me- i’m 5ft 5inch and 9 stone. The strap actually broke after using 3 times but a friend re-stitched it for me. It is also quickly gets clogged up when leaves are damp. However the machine has coped well with the plethora of small stones and pieces of glass found in my garden, and has made short work of the piles of leaves drifting over the fence from the woods behind my house. I’m hoping for some lovely leaf mould from this next year!
Bosch Universal garden tidy 2300, item no. ending 72.
I purchased this to remove leaves, buds and small stalks from paving and broken slate of approximately 1- 4 inches in size.
This is the less powerful of the 2 newest garden vac/ blowers( the other being the 3000). I was concerned that the lower powered vac would lack power and almost purchased the more powerful item.
I chose wisely as using the variable speed control I use it on minimum for vac duties even for thicker, leathery leaves otherwise thinner pieces of broken skate and small pebbles will be drawn into the vac.
The vac is quite easy to put together although the assembly instructions aren’t the best. A shoulder strap with soft pad is included and is needed as the vac is quite heavy but after a bit of practice it becomes easier to manoeuvre. There are two different nozzles supplied; the larger diameter one for vaccing and the smaller bore one for leaf blowing. There is a very solid cast cutting wheel inside which shreds leaves and small twigs and allows far more capacity in the bag. Also, It took me a few minutes to find the ideal gap to leave between the nozzle and the ground to vac up the leaves but leave the stones behind( a few small ones did go up but didn’t seem to damage the solid impeller/ cutter) the shreddings are great as mulch or composting.
The vac is reasonably quiet in use similar to an electric mower.
I haven’t used the blower as I just needed the vac function to remove the copious amount of leaves that my neighbours trees generously share !
I am very pleased with this blower which easily does what I required.
Overall, I am pleased with this Bosch product which incidentally I only use as a leaves vacuum. Contrary to what some reviewers have said I found it pretty straight forward to assemble. It is well designed and well made and is likely to last a long time if well looked after and maintained. The rotary on/off switch which also adjusts the amount of vacuum or blow is excellent as this relieves strain from holding a push switch down as on my previous vacuum. The adjustment of the vacuum also is great as I have small gravel stones beside my path which I’d rather not suck up when clearing leaves from them. Be aware that there are microswitches on assembly of the various parts, so if you don’t ensure everything tightly fixed the microswitches won’t switch and consequently no power. The bag is brilliant and again well designed to attach to the vacuum (with a microswitch as well!). Another point worth mentioning is that if you are vacuuming leaves from on top of the earth, the vacuum will pick this up as well, and eventually builds a layer of thick mud inside the macerator housing which you’ll need to scrape out occasionally as it does reduce the suction. On a hard surface such as a patio or block drive, it has no trouble whatsoever. The bag does get heavy if you get to fill it up, but the well designed shoulder strap helps tremendously.
My only gripe is the cheap plastic non-flexible cable. What are Bosch thinking!!!! I worked for an International Cable Manufacturer and there are plenty of low cost FLEXIBLE PVC cables on the market. It is intensely annoying trying to coil the cable to store the vac/blower away!!! I may have to cut off the cable and rewire with some seriously flexible cable. Ummmm, that will invalidate the guarantee! Maybe not.
