Cut through brambles and weeds with relative ease making a job which I thought would take hours all done and dusted in a fraction of the time. Before and after photos to show what I had to deal with. I can highly recommend this product.
Just got this boch strummer wow what a great addition to my garden machinery very powerful great to use as it’s balanced made very short work of a very overgrown garden replaced a broken smaller boch glad I purchased i
Does a great job for a cordless brush cutter. Cuts through brush etc with relative ease. Can get a bit heavy though when it’s being used for a while.
Would be better with an orange cord as the black one supplied can get a bit lost in the brush, brambles etc.
This makes any battery operated strimmer obselete.
No more faffing about. My battery strimmers with useless forever breaking line are now gone.
This does a better job in less than half the time.
Buy one.
Recently moved the garden was overgrown up to my head. I paid someone to come in they had a Husquvarna battery Strimmer they made no difference, couldn’t tackle the long grass etc.
Bought this and Wow ate through the grass and weeds no problem, haven’t used the brush cutter part yet but just the strimming part is enough for me. The line lasts a long time and the replacements are cheap enough. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend
plug it in and go, cut my 3ft overgrown garden down easily not too heavy easy to assemble cord length is good im a 62 woman so ease of use is important, i am more than happy with this product.
Used to trim back a really overgrown garden which took a whole day due to size. Don’t had a right ok hammering. Was skeptical as for after using petrol variants in the past. But this is just as good as an expensive branded petrol equivalent.
The strimmer arrived promptly and was easy to assemble. The choice is available to use the brushcutter (which I haven’t tried yet) or the strimmer.
The power is aggressive and strimmer weighty, in line with pro-consumer petrol strimmers.
Eye protection (and eye protection) is advisable, as debris flies everywhere and have been caught out on a couple of occasions
Extremely pleased.
This device is quite heavy to use and as its corded you do have to be careful to only cut forward and not swivel to the side and rsi cutting the cable. I didn’t think the instructions were very good for assembling the brush cutting tool because they do not show how to remove the strimmer fitting already attached. However it was relatively easy to work out once I got started. The brush cutting mode is very good I must say but because of the weight fatigue came quickly. I found that to clear about 4 or 5 square metres at a time was quite achievable between short breaks.
Mid seventies, arthritis, can’t bend too much, but need to keep those heavy weeds and briars etc in order .. that’s me. I bought my first Bosch Drill back in 1976 and it still gets fished out for tight corner jobs (drills were smaller then) .. this Brush Cutter is of the same ilk! Yes it’s heavy .. but if you adjust the harness strap properly, it becomes no heavier then using an ordinary grass strimmer, and does twice as much work in the same timescale. The heavy duty cutter-cables are great, and save all that fiddly rewinding that you do on ordinary strimmers .. as well as cutting things you wouldn’t expect them to handle. As for the steel disk .. well you can see the heavier stuff climbing over the fence in to the neighbour’s garden when they hear it coming!! Very satisfied
There is no doubt that this is a very effective brush cutter. However it is heavy and even using the shoulder strap it not easy to use. It is also corded (works with flex to power source) so restricted in distance. I would not recommend it for the elderly. This is a shame because it has many good features. It is a bit expensive and I would recommend battery operated models for normal garden use.
Just received this to replace a dead petrol strimmer and there’s no competition. This is just so much better. The supplier heavy duty cord works a treat and I now have a pile of cut weeds. The assembly is simple and it just works.
The only issue is the cable so you’ll need a long cable extension if you have a big area to cut back. Obviously if you’re working somewhere where this is an issue then this isn’t for you but if you’ve access to power get this!
To be honest – if you are tiny lady – don’t buy it
It is heavy item for men or very strong women
It was easy to start, but then I understand that it isn’t for me… I asked my hub to take that “wild horse” and finish the job
To be more honest – this item is for very messy gardens. For us – it is to strong , but we left him in our shed, as my hub decided that it will be him gun
+ cordless, strong, sharp,
– heavy
I’ve had a black & decker strimmer for over 15 years and have used my in-laws petrol strimmers on their land on Anglesey so am used to the limits of my own machine and the beasts needed in wilderness lol my pic is of me cutting an 80 metre path two metres wide through brambles 7ft high & thicker than your thumb ! I don’t need a beast machine but I need something better than what I had . So far I’ve put the machine together and tested that it works ok , time will tell if it can go the distance and keep going
Easy enough to assemble. So far I have only used it on a small test patch of overgrown garden and it is powerful enough for my needs. It is a solidly built thing, powerful in operation, but heavy. It is, however, well balanced and I find it easy to use without the shoulder strap. So far, so good.
This Strimmer really does the job ,it’s not light but it is well balance for handling ,the wire cutter makes it like cutting through butter for most weeds and low growth not really used the metal blade as yet and is sent with spare wires I think it’s a very good buy .
I bought this to cut through a wild flower bed in our garden as a ‘normal’ strimmer wouldn’t do it.
i used the brush cutter blade and although it was still heavy going (thich grass etc.) it worked without any effort.
I’d highly recommend this for heavy work that a normal strimmer would find hard to take on.
I already owned 2 strimmers. One corded and one cordless, both work fine for light strimming/edging.
Due to reasons of laziness, I had allowed the back lawn to be come nightmarishly long….and I mean almost knee height long.
The corded strimmer I had was the more powerful of the two, however, after an hour long battle, the lawn won and it had made hardly a dent in what needed strimming.
Another solution was clearly required…..
After much research, I decided on the Bosch strimmer. Almost double what I’d paid for either of my previous two, however, what a beast! In the 20mins use I had before the heavens opened, I had cleared 3/4 of the lawn. Worth every single penny.
I haven’t yet had a need to use the solid blade cutter, so can’t comment on that.
Pros:
Cuts through thick, long, dense grass like a hot knife through butter.
Isn’t too noisy, considering the near 1000w motor.
The adjustable handle and shoulder strap make the weight hardly noticeable, however, it’s worth taking the time to get this right, as it’s a heavy beast.
The build quality is excellent.
The trimmer cords are pre-cut and a good thickness.
Cons:
It’s heavy. Very heavy. The strap helps sort this issue out, however.
The instruction book is very big but not partially useful. It took me way too long to find the picture based build instructions, which is near the back of this epic novel sized piece of literature.
Replacement cords are expensive, however, 3rd party supplier one are identical and much cheaper.
Overall, weighing up everything, this is easily worth a full 5 stars.
It’s a bit of a heavy beast but does the job required. Has a strap to support it so I can deal with that. What I like most is the thick plastic wire cutters, they are very easy to fit and can take a beating against tough stones etc. Down side was I had to buy an adapter set in order to fit a wire brush that is recommended on the same page for some reason? I expected it to fit with the existing one, but it didn’t. End of the day, it’s powerful, functional, robust and does what is intended to do.
This has power, real omg I could lose a toe power. A great trimmer that is so much better than the one it replaced I was angry with myself for buying that other rubbish years ago. Wear foot and eye protection, not joking, just do it. This has chewed through my overgrown garden, thick stems, plant pots, branches, everything I have asked it to do. Quality product in my opinion.
For reasons I won’t go into I had a jungle to clear in my back garden and this by far excelled my crappy old strimmer. Had 4 uses so far and it’s decked everything in its path. No battery to recharge or fuel mix to mess up. Just mains power. I’d recommend a good extension cord and monitoring that your wires are behind you
Only just got it had a quick go in garden would suggest not cutting anything in shorts wear jeans or trackies because it rips through everything like no bodies business will add update when had a go at garden: update its a brilliant bit of kit can be arm tiring after a bit the strap helps a lot do what I did take breaks about every 20 mins I would highly recommend
Much easier to use than a petrol brush cutter less vibration and no exhaust fumes. Easy to assemble and change cutter head. All in all I’m very happy with it.
There aren’t many corded strimmer’s over 500W. This is one of them.
I replaced the supplied shoulder strap with a proper harness.
The shaft length is not adjustable, so anyone under 5′ 6″ tall is going to struggle.
It is nicely balanced on a harness making it easy to swing.
The strimming cord will cut through anything and needs to hit something metal to be sheared off.
However, it has a design fault.
The cord holder is a larger diameter than the drive shaft, creating a valley between the cord and the backplate. Long grass wraps itself in the gap and jams up the strimmer, very quickly if there is a lot of grass. Pulling stinging nettles free is a right pain, literally.
The strimmer comes with the strimmer unit assembled. It took a great deal of effort, not helped by grass jammed in the joint, to free the strimmer to attach the brush blade.
The spare strimmer cords are stored in the handle, held in with a bung that falls out, along with the cords.
Aside from those points it is a great unit for the price, sadly lacking in spare strimmer cords – two in total.
This is a wonderful trimmer, I found it quite heavy to use being an older woman. There is a good YouTube video that explains how to set it up. I bought this because I had a large area that was very intertwined with brambles, it worked a treat.. I have a second Flymo trimmer much lighter to do around my grassy areas that are already manicured.. . I tried this trimmer on my manicured area and I found that it cut into the grass too much due to how powerful it is.
The Bosch has an electric cable, plugs in which I didn’t find problematic, just need to be careful keeping the wire well out of the way.
The cutting wire is very easy to replace. The appliance comes with three lengths but if your working on a large area you may want to buy more. I went through 2 in a short space of time. The wire is specific to this product, it’s not the kind that you wind onto a cog and thread through a hole.
There is also a cutter blade. This flicks up a lot of stones and twigs so you need long pants and goggles. Don’t use it near to the house, as the stones travel.
I wish Bosch had provided a bag for the tools that go with the appliance.
Only used it once, had it a day, so obviously cannot comment on reliabilty/durability. Small garden/jungle, lol. Fairly easy to assemble but you do may need to look at assembly drawings. Fairly heavy but nicely balanced using the strap and then the weight is very easy to manage. Reason for this early review, is so I can say, its brill! love it. So definitely worth a punt so to speak. Ps only used the blade, brill.
his is quite an impressive machine and just what I need for our’rural’ garden, certainly much better than the typical strimmer. Really powerful and very efficient. I would have given it 5 stars but feel let down by the total lack of instructions, something as impressive as this deserves better! also the wretched bung in the handle that stores the lines pops off at the slightest contact with anything. Still a good tool, though after a while it does feel heavy !
I had neglected a large patch of ground opposite my home for several years and it had become overgrown with brambles and weeds, way too much for me to manage with my strimmer and hand tools. What I needed was a reasonably priced brush cutter, preferable one that could double-up as a powerful strimmer, which I could use for dual-purposes and after checking out what was available decided on the Bosch AFS 23-37. Not too expensive and made by Bosch, a first class company manufacturing great gear, which I always look out for when buying electrical equipment like fridges, drills, vacuum cleaners etc. Never had anything designed or made by Bosch fail me.
Assembly was pretty simple and today I finally decided to give it a go. Wow! The Bosch brush cutter chopped through woody brambles and young bamboos like a hot knife through butter! I could hardly believe what quick work this gadget made of everything, altogether better and more efficient than I could have ever imagined, chopping everything off at ground level in the blink of an eye. With its help I cleared the big patch of brambles and young bamboos in less than an hour and forty-minutes of that was spent by me raking up and disposing of what I had cut off! Great all round. What more can I say. Delighted.
I will mention that the Bosch, because it has a very powerful 950w electric motor, might be a bit weighty for some but, thanks to the adjustable harness supplied with it, which transfers most of the weight of the tool from the arms to the shoulders, shouldn’t present any problems for the averagely strong. Elderly, frail or generally muscularly weaker people however might find the Bosch a bit too much of a beast to use successfully for long.
The Bosch AFS 23-37 is a first class tool, has a three-year guarantee if you register the tool online, and can be purchased hereabouts at a bargain price. If you are looking for a really powerful electrical combination strimmer and brush cutter, equal to or better than many a petrol equivalent, and are strong enough to wield it in anger, so to speak, my advice would be for you to consider it.
This strimmer is an absolute BEAST. If you put four wheels on this it would do 0 to 60 in ten seconds flat! Having struggled for years with various types of strimmer without any real success I have finally found some redemption with this one! The directions supplied for setting this up were tricky but if you use your common sense it will all go together eventually but be aware of the reverse thread on the main bolt for removing and attaching the two strimmer heads. The three blade cutter quickly made mincemeat out of tall weeds and long grass and the more conventional spool type fitting is really effective too for everyday stuff – this is quite hard wearing depending on how careful you are but I would advise using the special offer to buy the extra lines at the cheaper price because you will get through them eventually. BE WARNED this is a very powerful machine and care has to be taken not to tear great chunks of turf from your lawn if you hold it at the wrong angle. Also keep the mains lead well behind you when using it. It is well worth practising somewhere that doesn’t matter first. It is also quite a heavy tool so the shoulder strap is essential for manoeuvring the strimmer when working. I am delighted with this machine and I hope to get many years of use from it. Bosch do high quality products but they really do need to make the setting up instruction sheet a lot easier to follow rather than getting 150 pages of unnecessary information. I will keep this little section of rain forest though, as you never know – one day I may well have to locate the Bosch franchise in Nepal when accompanying my strimmer on it’s next visit to Kathmandu.
I hate gardening – hence the 3 foot grass with a mixture of weeds and scrubs. So I bought this BRILLIANT piece of kit. Read the instructions so assembly was very easy – tools supplied. First I used the wire.
Note: the replacement cutting wires are stored in the handle.
The wire just went through the grass and weeds like knife through butter. I stopped every 20 minutes or so to clean out the guard, and adjust the shoulder strap : once that`s done u don`t feel the weight.
Just keep the arc of use easy and slow and you`re on to a winner.
Used the three bladed cutter on the really thick weeds / vines – thumb thick – again taking it steady and progress was instant.
First piece of gardening equipment I`ve bought in years – and well impressed.
Taking into account the free delivery to my door and price – through Amazon this was 35 – 45 cheaper than anywhere else and delivered to your door.
It`s well made,, comes with a 3 year warranty – what else can I say?
Perfect for heavier cutting. Likes: I can’t manage the weight or stop/start of a petrol strimmer, the shoulder strap on the strimmer makes this easy to hold. Strong cutting line gets through long wet grass, tall cow parsley, brambles and more. The blade is also effective. The trigger is quite sensitive, so I can work as long as I can hold the grip. If the cutting circle fills with grass, the line stops spinning, a useful safety feature.
Dislikes: It took me a while to put it all together, as the cutting blade is screwed on anti-clockwise, not clear to me on the diagram. And I wish manufacturers of electric tools would use a hi-viz cable rather than black.
There is close to a 1000 watts of power in the motor so this machine has a lot of power and more than enough for any garden / allotment. It is not light mainly because of the motor as the other components are as light as they can be while being strong. If you had to hack down a months worth of long grass attach the blade and no problem, I reckon you could probably remove a corn field with this. You have to get used to the power. and getting the balance right using the straps and handle, so take your time and practice on something that will not matter too much. An important tip take a careful look at the trimmer before removing to fit the blade., if you ever do! Do not overtighten the head.Bosche do not provide any decent instructions or video that I can find which is surprising and poor.
Bought in July 2022 to tidy up a 45m x 20m sloping garden overgrown with brambles, long grass, weeds and small saplings. Assembly was easy (the manual is diagramatical – like Ikea’s manuals) and swopping the blade and line heads was simple (using the supplied spanner and 4″-5″ steel rod). Suggest you take the time to adjust the handle position and shoulder strap length to get them to fit comfortably and to get the trimmer balanced. The trigger has a dead man’s switch so requires a constant pressure for the motor to run. Good for safety but gets very tiring after an hour of constant use. I eased this by cutting for 15-20 minutes then raked up the cuttings for 10 minutes or so and then resumed cutting. The design of the handle above the trigger could be improved to prevent it digging in to the back of the joint of your thumb. To reduce this discomfort I ended up sticking a couple of plasters on my hand. Didn’t try the cutting line but the blade cut through long grass, thick brambles, weeds and even 1″ tree stems with ease. Having a 950 Watt motor means it does “kick” if the blade meets something solid or hard so be prepared!! Used it for about 14 hours over 2 days and it never overheated or showed any sign of struggling (although at 62 years of age I did.) Would recommend buying a Stihl ‘Advance’ Universal Harness for extended use as the supplied shoulder harness is a little uncomfortable after more than 3-4 hours use. Overall very happy with this machine and can thoroughly recommend it.
As other reviewers have said, this machine is a beast and clears long grass with ease. It is far better than the petrol one it replaced provided you have mains electricity available where you want to use it.
However, I have 2 issues:
1. Great care is needed when anywhere near plants you want to keep. This is not a surprise, it is a large and powerful machine. I am in the fortunate position of also having a small, cheap, lightweight, and cordless strimmer to do this kind of work. This make a great combo.
2. The cost of replacement lines is too high. If you are cutting long grass or weeds the cutting line lasts a long time but go near hard edges like walls and the line will break like it does with any other trimmer. This could get very expensive. However I read a translation of a French language review which explained how to use 10/12 awg uninsulated bullet connectors and heavyweight line to make your own. That is a game changer for me.
Powerful stuff, first time with a heavy duty trimmer and I shudder to think I nearly didn’t use safety glasses. I’m off to get a face shield now thanks to the occasional impact up at my cheeks!
The wire easily does up to light brush and I’m sure the blade will tackle the half inch thick and upwards stuff.
I’m on the verge of being too tall (6’4″) to keep the cutting level during use, I’m having to tip the front down slightly to get it low enough, would have been nice to have a bit more travel on the strap. It’s not a big problem for me since I’m not trying to get a manicured lawn with this and I can probably work out a simple way to hang it lower.
Other than that I’d note is the trigger is surprisingly firm. If you had low grip strength it might get tiring.
Very pleased with it overall. If I was to purchase again the only thought would be going cordless. I’ve been used to a petrol lawnmower so I forgot the mild chore of cable management.
1st machine before it was returned back – Bought this product based on reviews others had left. Initially it performed better than I had anticipated. However, that didn’t last long as the head stopped spinning but the shaft where the motor is was still spinning but not engaging with the sheath end. Frustrating as it had only be used for around an hour since new and it wasn’t cheap. Thinking that somehow the groves where the two parts connect had somehow rounded off resulting in this poorly engineered piece of equipment failing to operate less than two hours. Nope that wasn’t the case at all. Then I contacted Amazon as the shaft where the motor is housed was moving up and down onside the casing and this caused it to pop out and disengage with the other half. Maybe I had a duff (no other word will do) piece of equipment – I’d like to think so. Would I buy it again?? If I knew it would have the same issue – then no way. If I had indeed a faulty product (something that got missed through the inspection phase) and all others were great – then yes. But as it stands I have to assume they’re all like it – so no.
Second time purchase. Dubious as expecting this one to stop working as the 1st one did. It’s done the same amount of work and it’s still working!
The Bosch AFS 23–37 is another brilliant product from bosch… All my work tools are bosch.. Bosch is by far the best made very durable all there products..simply the best… I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who’s looking to do a bit of strimmeing… Very easy to put the line wire in for it just clips in very easy with extra wires in the safety handle… From my house to my garden… I just take out my 50 meter extention lead and bobs your uncle very easy to us with it hanging on your shoulder… It gives the grass a good short cut for the lawnmower… And the blade that comes with the BOSCH AFS 23-37 is so easy and quick to fit… It’s the first time I bought a electric strimmer.. Must say the big difference is after a day of using the strimmer… I go back into my house not smelling of petrol which is amazing…it’s just a matter of getting grass of you with no petrol smells… The BOSCH AFS 23-37 has another awesome thing I love and that is its not a noisey petrol which would be annoying to most people… I’m so glad I bought the strimmer I can see it lasting me a long time for BOSCH is known for its long lasting power.. All BOSCH products are so well put together… So I know when I’m buying a BOSCH it’s a product that will last me a long time.. My power hand Drill is just another example of pure brillants…. I’ve 2 batteries for it and when charged it’s very strong and keeps that strength up for hours especially using the hammer feature on it it’s awesome… Back to the strimmer there’s a battery version there’s a battery….version I might consider buying to get to places in my garden over 50 meters I’m glad I bought the electric version exactly the same both are brilliant products.. Another really good thing about the BOSCH AFS 23 -37 is that it’s a fast working machine cuts so fast and precise than most petrol strimmers… I’ve owned petrol strimmers over the years they always break down… The main problems are the more you use it over the years have to pull really hard and fast to get going… Also what is really annoying for a petrol strimmer is sometimes by mistake can put in the wrong amount of 2 stroke oil in.. And that leads to the engine over heating and dieing out its the same with a chainsaw… I’ve noticed that the BOSCH AFS 23 -37 doesn’t over heat so there’s no worries there about dieing out or oil and not noisy..So foke there’s my review on the BOSCH AFS 23 -37 I really do recommend getting this if your thinking of buying a strimmer the petrol and battery versions are equally as brilliant.. My choice is this electric one… BOSCH I also like is the green I think the colour of BOSCHS products stand out for the rest… With that colour makes all BOSCHS products look professional I give this product all five stars for light weight easy to assemble and very easy to use…..I put the rest to my neighbour he’s got a petrol strimmer it’s not a BOSCH.. We both started strimmeing at the same time.. In an hours time I’d covered twice of what his was cutting.. Also the BOSCH left a nice clean and even surface… Now that my neighbour has seen what my BOSCH can do he’s wanting to buy one which is a good call… I didn’t even need to talk my neighbour into buying the BOSCH AFS 23 -37.. He and his wife seen what it can do the performance.. My neighbour was telling me yesterday on the phone that he bought a BOSCH strimmer I was happy for him and his wife for I know they won’t get the problems of having to much 2 stroke in it or it overheating and the noise of the petrol engines anit that pleasent for the ears.. When I was out looking for a new strimmer I new that when I seen BOSCH I new it was the best of the best when coming to performance last ability… I know this product will last me many of years for its a BOSCH.. Bosch is the best sports car when it comes to hardware machines… I hope me review on this lovely BOSCH strimmer gives you the idea and makes you happy with strimmeing for many years… I’ve a long drive way I was thinking the electric Strimmer wouldn’t be able to do what a petrol strimmer could do…. How wrong was I not onto is in not noisy it’s faster dose a perfect job… If you’re still not sure I suggest to try one out from a friend that has one or even ask at a hardware store.. This BOSCH AFS 23 -37 still is a piece of great craftsmanship and ingenuity.. I’ve been using strimmers over the years and BOSCH is by far the best strimmer product I’ve ever set eyes o
I first used this strimmer today to clear an overgrown garden, mainly long grass, nettles, some thorns and some thicker weeds. Not once did the line break, which I was worried about because you only get three. This strimmer just minced them, in fact I forgot to put on safety glasses, as soon as I turned it on and cut the weeds I was instantly reminded to put them on. It is very powerful, if you don’t have any, make sure to buy some eye protection at the very least, preferably a face guard as when cutting thicker weeks they do tend to fly around quite a bit.
Setting up the strimmer took about half an hour, the set up directions are only pictures in the back of a thick manual, pretty easy to understand though. It splits into two pieces which is quite handy for storage as it is quite long. I’ve not used the blade attachment yet but I did try changing it, which was quite easy, it takes about a minute to change. The strimmer is quite heavy, at least compared to my old cheapo one, it’s usable with just the handle two handed, but the strap takes some of the strain so it is a useful attachment.
The only other thing worth noting is the blade attachment has been discontinued, so getting a spare might be tricky and while you can still get the line, that is expensive. That was the only thing that made me question whether or not to buy this, but I felt the blade should last me years anyway, and even after, I saw someone use a different cheaper line by putting a knot in the middle, so I felt it better to get a really good strimmer that would last a good few years at least on the blades and line, then just get the official line if it lasts a long time or just tie a knot in a different line. Otherwise I might have ended up with a rubbish strimmer that I hated and didn’t want to take the risk.
I’m extremely happy with my purchase, it was the very top of my budget as I wanted to get a good strimmer to save time and stress gardening and it was more than worth it. If anything goes wrong with the strimmer I’ll update the review but it looks well built so I’m hoping it will last many years to come.
Superb, if a little heavy. It took me a few seconds to figure out the diagrams for changing the cord to the blade, personally would have preferred a few more words with the pictures ! – basically, to change from cord to blade, you unplug the power, twist the head until the hole in the lower side of the head aligns with hole underneath then insert tool provided in the hole to hold the head steady while you unscrew the cord attachment and screw on the blade attachment. Super easy and safe. The shoulder strap is essential and the handle and leg guard easy to fix and adjust so that the strimmer is perfectly balanced, even so, it’s not the lightest. That said, the blade was supremely effective against brambles, nettles, sturdy thistles and other tough and tall weeds – it might be heavy but it’s so good you don’t have to carry it for long. I managed to clear a third of my wildly overgrown 60 x 20 foot garden in less than 10 minutes before it started to rain and I retreated indoors – absolutely amazing !!! My old strimmer couldn’t cope at all! I used a sweeping technique in short busts of 20 to 30 seconds at a time.
The heavy duty cord also breezed through long scraggy grass without tangling – though should be said that as a fair weather and somewhat lazy gardener, I’d waited for the garden to dry a bit rather than trying immediately after a deluge – expect wet long grass might be more likely than dry grass to clog any strimmer, but haven’t had any clogging problems myself..
I was wearing a brow mask and gloves for the job, to protect against any flying debris, but really there was little to worry about. All in all delighted.
I bought this because I have brambles and thick weeds in my lawn, which many years ago was part of a field. The Qualcast strimmer that I had was doing the job trimming and edging, but not on the more difficult bits. This is a serious piece of kit, almost 3x the power of my mid range Qualcast unit. My only criticism is the instruction manual. Around 300 pages but very few of them are in English (or any other single language). And the “instructions” for assembly are all pictograms, no words at all. I personally find these extremely hard to decipher. Though I was able to assemble the unit in a few minutes there appear to be no instructions *at all* for changing between the metal blade and plastic grass cutter. None at all. I eventually figured it out after watching a Youtube tutorial. Product itself is excellent but a note to all manufacturers – please include written instructions.
One feature I really like is that the two parts can be separated very quickly and easily, to better store it. I’m not usually one to recommend safety clothing for ordinary gardening activities but when using the metal blade cutter I do recommend jeans and safety specs/goggles. Last thing you want is a thorny piece of brush in your face or slicing your legs.
Very powerful brushcutter. I’d go as far as to say it’s savage. This is only for a very confident user and then with caution. Wear wellies or tough trousers and sturdy shoes, and wear protective glasses. This is not a trimmer for detailed work around the edges, it’s only really for clearing brush and it does that very well with the cord or blade. The metal blade will cut through heavy weed growth or small tree saplings etc. Cord will demolish any length of grass or weeds.
It feels really well built, better than a lot of the modern Bosch stuff, with a solid metal gearbox, which does get hot in use but hasn’t failed when I’ve accidentally clipped metal or rocks unlike the Einhel model I tried first.
Some people say the cords last for ages, but I nearly used up one on the big summer cut. They last a lot better than standard trimmer line. Buy the genuine Bosch replacements even if they are a bit pricey.
Some have commented that it’s very heavy, but if you adjust the strap correctly so it’s supporting all the weight it’s not too bad for and hour or so. If you need something to work all day then a corded electric cutter is probably not the best option.
Cable is a bit on the short side, easily extended of course, but be very careful as it will be easily cut through, especially with the blade.
My only criticism is it could do with a variable speed trigger, then it would be more versatile and manageable, possibly even useful as a trimmer not just a brush cutter.
