I really enjoy using this shaver, and it’s a quantum leap from the first Braun shaver I purchased many years ago as a student. The performance is excellent, and it gives me a really smooth, comfortable shave.
Things I especially like about this are the triple foils which catch hair very well, the ability to wash it under a tap (saves a lot of time), and the attachments that allow me to use it safely for body hair also. It feels very solid and well made too, which is very welcome in this day and age, where many consumer items are cheaply made and flimsy. I see that these are built in Germany.
There are more expensive shavers around (which I also own) but this Series 5 model does everything I need at the end of the day, and does it very well. No wonder it earned a Which Best Buy award. I too recommend it without reservation.
I bought this after using a Phillips trimmer and then wet shaving with Harry’s blades.
I now have an electric trimmer/shaver that is better than any I have ever used (I am a 57 year old man).
I tend to trim and/or shave once a week. The 1mm trimmer head gets rid of beard, and then the shave head, with gentle pressure, gives me almost as close a shave as a wet shave with a triple blade razor.
This gives me a quick easy beard trim and/or close electric shave.
I still use Harry’s after shave balm. It smells great and prevents razor rash.
So, to conclude: buy this electric trimmer/shaver .. it’s GREAT, with lots of nice graded attachments. Then buy use some of your favourite after shave balm.
I will be using this from now on.
And, it is easy to clean. A bit of liquid soap and a rinse is enough.
Always used a rotary shaver in the past but this Braun being a which best Buy thought I would give it a try and very happy I did ,best shave I’ve had in years.Would recommend it.
Is an easy to hold shaver with an excellent battery life. Shaves wet or dry. I personally prefer dry but handy if in a hurry for a shave in the shower. Comes with a excellent array of easy to exchange blades most of which I haven’t needed. Gives a very decent shave but not as good as a traditional safety razor. That said I haven’t found an electric shaver that does. Probably the electric shaver I have had but might be in a tie with my Philips one which I would be replacing if I could get replacement cutters. I also bought Braun due to their backup service which is much better than anyone else. All in all v happy with my purchase. On a shallow note it looks better than my previous razors so has girl friend approval. To sum up it’s great strength is ease of use. Main defect is lack of built in trimmer. Slightly irritating to have exchange heads but not a big deal.
I done a lot of research before buying a new electric razor. I have not had one for a very very long time, maybe 20 years ago.
I’ve had a beard for the last 15 years and have decided to start shaving again.
I went for this one as it was my first and I didn’t want to break the bank with a series 9, but didn’t want a super cheap one, so this one felt middle of the road for me.
First impressions
It’s light, charges REALLY fast and upon first dry shave I was really really impressed!! I only went over roughly and it took my 2 day growth off no trouble and it’s really smooth! I will try wet shave with it but I feel this will perform really nicely for what I want.
I’m not sure why people are confused with instructions, this razor is super basic, charge it, use it, wash it. I didn’t even both with instructions and figured out how to changes heads etc no problem.
The shaver seems to work well, though I cannot tell whether it will continue to do so for the lifetime expected for an expensive device. At this stage I do have a severs criticism of the appalling instruction ‘manual’. I thought I might find a better one on the Braun website, but that is identical to the printed one apart from the reduced number of languages
I didn’t have any more rash/redness after using this shave
The Braun 5 shaver has proved to be an excellent successor to the Braun 3 shaver that I had used for several years. It gives a close shave and the trimmer is very effective in removing harder stubble.
This is my first electric razor in over 60 years due to wet shaving causing rosacre flare ups. Okay, it’s not as close as a wet shave, but it’s not bad. Still learning – new technique. Shaves closer if I don’t push too hard. And my skin is a lot better. Battery life seems good and fits in the hand well. Very pleased.
Regular daily shave and last minute tidy-up before evening engagements. Lasts 24 hrs only. Easy to manage
I am happy with this machine, a German made and works as expected. Only 4 stars due to the static main body of machine made of a rubber-feel plastic that a plenty of hair sticking to it, brush cannot remove hence picking hair by hand one by one!
Easy to use, doesn’t irritate my skin after using on a daily basis. I use wet and dry (with cream tend to be a better shave for me)
Easy to clean and store. Very handy attachments for grooming body hair.
I bought this to replace my old Braun Series 7 shaver (the old boxy shape) – which had lasted for about 5 years.
It feels very smooth on the skin, and provides a very good shave.
I prefer the ‘flip-out’ sideburn trimmer on the old model, rather than having to take the head off the top of the shaver – I worry that over longer term use, this may be a weak point that breaks – I’ll update my review if this happens.
Battery life is good, not outstanding – lasts about a week. Weight and ergonomics are good.
Glad that I went for this rather than spending a lot more on a replacement Series 7 model, as the shaving quality is very respectable, at a reasonable price (at the time of writing).
Just about squeezes into the old style Series7 travel case if anyone is wondering.
Would recommend.
This razor is a must. I have always wet shaved but had a cheap electric razor and used every other day but dreaded it as it pulled. I bit the bullet and brought this Braun series 5 and I was amazed how good it worked and no pain just a smooth shave. I use this every day and no redness. The cleaning is so easy. The price is amazing for what you ge
Bought as a cheaper replacement for a Series 9 shaver which had become very inefficient after a couple of years despite a shaver head replacement 7 months ago.
The price was competitive (Amazon offer) and the initial findings are that the shaver is quiet, comfortable and easy to use. It offers a better shave than my older Braun and an easier option than a wet shave.
I have been through multiple shavers which become less effective after time. At the sort of price on offer this becomes as cheap an option as wet shaving even if replacing annually.
Gives a softer shave but the attachments are not as ergonomic as my previous Series 3 which had a built-in trimmer. The trimmer for the shortest cut does not cut as close as the Series 3. The battery gives far longer intervals between charges.
Firstly the only negative is it doesn’t quite get long hairs so you have to use one of the trimming attachments for anything more than a days growth prior to shaving. It does need a few passes to get all hairs but this isn’t a problem.
What I love is that with all the attachments you can save a lot of space if you’re away from home as it will crop hair, sort beards out and obviously shave. Trimming hair may not be as good as clippers but it’s great for daily touch ups or trims
Bought this as an upgrade to my series 3. Found battery life excellent and gives a close shave. My only issue is that for the life of me It will not cut the long-term hairs under my jawline…. whilst for the price I would recommend for a 1st shaver… but would not bother to upgrade from the series 3 as the 3 is also a very good shave
Never used one in my life before now , I like it it’s handy for myself when I wanna shave and go , great battery life and easily cleaned , haven’t wet shaved with it yet , so far so good ,I would buy agai
Never used an electric razor before but was pleasantly surprised by the results. Found wet shave to be more comfortable and simple to rinse clean afterwards. Also useful for trimming hair.
