Braun’s best shave. No matter if 1, 3, or 7-day beard.
This is a very nice shaver, good build quality as expected from a brand like braun. Comes complete with a charging dock but not the smartcare cleaning dock which i think may be available separately, instead you get the tiny cleaning brush to clean out the head when needed. Also comes with a power cord fitted with a 2 pin shaver plug and a handy case perfect for storage and travel. I put the unit on for a full charge overnight, a full charge takes a few hours and lasts a long time too, the handset has a power level indicator.
With the adaptable swivel head the floating shaver blades are sharp and effective, with the sonic technology the shave is quick and close, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth. It is great for sensitive skins because it very comfortable to use and has left next to no irritation.
If i’m honest, this shaver is expensive but it does work very efficiently for an excellent shave. This is unfortunately reflected in the price, the RRP of which is around 370 but at the time of review is on a generous offer of 169.99, which i feel is much more appropriate.
I got his to replace a Series 5 Braun and it’s significantly better. The higher cutting speed makes a difference, as does the sonic vibration. I love it.
Wildly overpriced when it first came out at its RRP of 369.99, this Braun Series 8 is now at the much more realistic price of 169.99 on Amazon. Even that is still an over-the-top price, which shows just how ludicrous the original RRP was.
Now, though, to the product itself. The box contains 1 x Braun S8 8417s electric shaver, 1 x charging stand, 1 x cleaning brush, 1 x charging cord, 1 x user manual. The 8417s does give an extremely close shave for an electric shaver, but not quite as close as a razor. That’s to be expected. No electric shaver does get that close. The selling point of electric shavers isn’t the closeness of the shave they deliver, but their convenience and the quickness with which they can be used: no need for shaving foam or sinks or bathrooms or even mirrors – you can give your face a once-over with the electric shaver in seconds and can do so pretty much anywhere.
One misleading claim made by the manufacturer with reference to this product is “designed to last up to 7 years”. Let’s explore what that actually means. Technically, it means “designed to last less than 7 years”. So if you buy an 8417s and it doesn’t work even when brand new, it has still lasted “up to 7 years”. The same is true if it works for 6 years and 364 days and then packs in moments before the 7-year mark. Or else packs in anywhere between those two extremes. Braun uses the 7-year claim even more misleadingly in some promotional pictures, which feature just the shaver, a German flag and the wording “7 years”. That could be taken to mean that the product will work flawlessly for 7 years, or even that it comes with a 7-year guarantee (which it doesn’t). If the shaver did come with that sort of warranty, it may be worth the current price of 169.99, as buyers would have some peace of mind. By means of comparison, ten years ago I bought a Panasonic face and body hair trimmer that cost just under 50. It’s still going strong.
The quality of the Braun 8417s is good. The swivelling head is fairly ergonomic and adapts well to facial contours. It’s unwieldy for the under-the-nose part of the moustache, but the flip-out precision trimmer does a good job of getting into that area.
I bounce between shaving regularly and just growing a beard. When I do shave, I often use a wet shave as I find it much closer. This ‘Braun Series 8 Electric Shaver’ is an excellent alternative as it offers the closest shave I have ever had from an electric razor.
The form is the style that Braun have had for years, but this modern version has a nice chunky button to turn it on and off and the shaver itself is nice to hold. A good grip allows you to get the blades close to your skin and the razors do cut well. The face feels smooth, but you do get a little bit of a blue/black blur if you have darker thick hair.
The price is high, even with a large chunk off, but it is a very solid piece of kit. My last Braun lasted years and this one looks even more sturdy. There are not that many parts to break and those that do exist are well made. It may be the razors themselves that dull over time before the device itself breaks. An impressive piece of kit.
I’ve never got on that well with foil shavers before, I’ve always found them to be a bit fidgety and a faff to use. This new shaver from Braun was a refreshing change. It’s so comfortable to use and just glides over my skin with ease. I still need multiple passes to get a good cut, but because it’s so smooth, I can do multiple passes in a very short period of time. It’s comfortable to hold and I can feel the power of the motor increase automatically as I go over some of the more difficult parts of my face. The battery life is really good and the storage case is nice and compact, perfect for travelling.
This Braun series 8 electric razor must be the most expensive razor I have ever owned in my 43 years of shaving (I’m 62 now). I often switch between a period of wet shaving as I prefer the closeness of a wet shave and an electric shave as I like the convenience this affords me.
Inside the box are the following …
** The electric Razor
** Charging stand
** Charging cable
** Cleaning brush
** Storage pouch
It’s worth noting this razor came with a 2-pin charging cable so you either need a 2-pin shaving socket or a three pin adaptor.
In use I found this electric shaver is very comparable to a wet shave … it gave a closer shave than any other electric razor I have tried in the past. I also really liked the fact this shaver is entirely waterproof meaning it can be used with shaving foam or gel whilst in the shower. Brilliant and very innovative.
It is a pleasure to use this shaver is it feels ergonomically comfortable in the hand and the floating pivoting head glides across the skin nicely.
My only slight complaint is this razor is a bit on the noisy side but really that isn’t too much of a problem.
Highly recommended.
Thank you for reading and I hope you found my review helpful.
Expensive ,and you can in addition buy add-on features/fittings.You have to take each fitting ( eg shaver head, trimmer) off to put the next one on ,which makes it a versatile nuisance as far as I am concerned. I chose it from a review which I shall be avoiding in future.
To be fair the multi purpose design may well suit other users and it gives quite a good shave
This performs very well. I do think that it is the best electric shaver that I have ever used. It is powerful enough. It is quite easy to keep clean. The carrying case is very convenient.
The only real drawback is the cost. I’m not certain that it is justified but it is better than some more expensive ones that I have used.
Very happey with this shaver, I upgraded from series 3 and it is a world of difference. I always wet shave with it and use Waitrose Heath Cream Shave and get a very good close shave. Battery life is 14+ days, it will still do at least 2 days more shaving after you get the battery low beep.
The other half hates electric shavers as they aren’t as good as a traditional razor shave so I wasn’t expecting great feedback from him on this to be honest.
This is the first one he has used more then once in fact this is his go to now as it gives a good close shave with very little effort. Within a few minutes he is cleaning shaving again. Doesn’t dry out his skin or leave shaving burn.
This is a 2 pin plug so if you don’t have that adapter in the bathroom you can cheaply pick up a 3 pin plug adapter to charge the shaver. This comes without any battery life so will need a full charge before use.
He has been using this for the last month and has charged it twice and it’s not run out once. There is a led screen which indicates how much battery is left.
The head is flexible and does a 40 degree swivel to get the head to reach tricky hairs. More stubborn stubble dose need to to go over maybe twice to make it as smooth as a babies bum.
Comes with its own little carry case so perfect for on the go or travelling.
Easy to clean and he would highly recommend which is something I’d never thought he’d say with an electric shave
I ordered this shaver as I have had enough of wet shaves and blunt blades.
Arrived in a stylish branded box.
This razor is such a quality product with latest sonic technology providing the closest of shaves, why on earth it requires a 2 pin plug to charge up I would prefer a USB power lead.
Luckily it does come with charge, when fully charge the Li-Lon battery last for 1 hour continuous use. It doesn’t sound much but that last me for well over 6 weeks of 2mins shaves a day.
Yes just 2 mins for smooth all over feel, the razor is so powerful and sharp it smooths my face in on motion, you don’t have to keep going over same spot for a clean shave.
Basic carrycase but Ideal if your going away.
Overall, this razor provides a better shave than a wet shave in far less time without all the hassle. Great quality product built to last for 7 years, I wonder if its still the best you can get in 7 years. I love the razor but hate the charging plug, lucky the shave quality out weighs the issue with 2 pin plug.
After using this Series 8 shaver over the last several weeks I’ve been left really impressed by its performance and results, it’s an excellent shaver! It comes well packaged in a smartly designed retail box and along with the shaver you get a travel case, charging stand, mains cable with two-pin plug, and a small brush.
Everything in this kit is well-made and feels high quality, the plastics look smart, and the shaver is comfortable to hold and grip. Even the travel is case is nice and a welcomed addition. Although it is quite expensive, I do feel like you’re getting your money’s worth with it and the quality reflects the price very well.
I love that this shaver can be used wet or dry, I prefer wet shaving with gel as it irritates my skin far less. It’s really comfortable to hold and I think the swivel head is excellent, it really does a great job of following the contours of your face, even around and under the chin area which some shavers struggle with. Another thing I noticed was how effortless it cut through my hair and there was no tugging or ripping, the sonic technology really seems to improve the quality of each shave and it cuts very close to your skin. The precision trimmer is a bit awkward to use but it still gets the job done!
The battery life is excellent, I’ve had four shaves with it so far and the battery is still above 50% remaining. If you’re in a rush you can get a quick charge done in just 5 minutes which should be enough for one full shave. When in use the shaver sounds and feels powerful, the motor is strong, and it does not bog down even on the thicker hair sections. The shaver will automatically sense if you have thick beard and boost the power, so it keeps on cutting efficiently.
Overall, I think this is on of the best shavers I have personally ever owned and it’s a real pleasure to use. Yes, its priced quite high but for something we do on a regular basis I feel it’s worth spending the extra on for a much better shaving experience. If anything changes down the line, I will update this review but for now it’s a product that’s easy for me to recommend, Braun have done an excellent job and I feel its easily worth the full five stars!
Brilliant quality, easy to use and clean. Battery life is amazing, charging time also good. Shape of this shaver is nice, makes it easy to hold, shaver is not heavy, as well as not loud. Charges stand, case included, whole set well packed. Simple design, shaver does a very good job. My husband is happy with this product and its performance. Overall price seems to be worth it as this product is very well made and durable.
Built to last, this Braun Series 8 Electric Shaver is well designed, well built and, though the price may seem punchy, it claims to last at least 7 years – not bad considering many men use a shaver at least once a day. I gave it to my partner and he reckons it’s far and away the best electric shaver he’s used – and he’s been using mainly electric shavers for some years now.
The whole package here looks very good – and I must confess a personal love of the Braun brand which has produced some of the most iconic electricals in recent decades. Supplied with a charging station, charging cable and neat travel case, this silver toned German made shaver looks very good.
The shaver is also extremely versatile as it’s entirely waterproof and can be used both dry and wet with shaving foam or gel whichever you prefer – or can even be used in the shower. What really impressed my partner was the level of comfort when shaving that can be achieved with the Braun Series 8. This innovative razor’s sonic technology with its many micro vibrations meant the razor glides effortlessly over the skin.
Another aspect which impressed my partner – the Series 8 really delivered in terms of ‘next level closeness’ with its pivoting head and floating blades. He told me he felt it was the closest shave he’s ever had from any electric shaver – yet it’s simplicity itself to use as well as being easy to clean.
He was happy too about the fact that a full charge gives around 60 minutes of use so he’s not forever needing to charge it up. But if the charge is low, a mere 5 minutes on quick-charge will give give enough power for a single shave.
This is a precise and comfortable shaver that I’m told feels very ergonomic to hold. Presently this Series 8 Braun electric shaver is selling at a highly competitive price on Amazon. And as electric shavers go it’s just about the creme de la creme.
his is the series 8 electric shaver from the brand braun, it features 3 flex heads with 30000/min cutting action blades and sonic technology to glide the razor over skin for effective cut
inside the package, there are also a compact charging stand and a travel case included, definitely it will be a good travel shaver if you don’t mind slightly bigger, it’s not that heavy anyway, i’m sure that i don’t need to bring the charger and charging stand with me as the battery can last one hour, that’s good enough for a 3 weeks to a month use
it’s powerful, non slip material on the grip makes it easy to hold and control, i found the flexible head could glide over my facial contour very closely and well, the shave is smooth and quick, it can be used in both dry and wet, lastly there is an integrated precise trimmer with the shaver, i hope it’s a bit wider
all in all, i’m very happy with this product, would recommend
Out of the box, this sonic technology Series 8 wet and dry electric shaver from Braun is aesthetically pleasing with the sleek metal casing that feels robust and sturdy.
It comes together with a charging cable, a travel case, charging stand, cleaning brush and a user manual. It has a built-in Li-ion battery with 60 minutes of running time.
The blade seems durable, very sharp and shaves my husband’s stubble effortlessly without irritation at all.
My husband loves its 40 swivelling head and the ergonomic design that fits in the hands nicely and makes it easy to manoeuvre around the contour of the face and neck, making close shaving gentle and easy to achieve.
This shaver is waterproof so it’s easy to clean, just a quick rinse under the tap and it’s good as new.
All in all, my husband loves this shaver and said it is the best shaver that he has ever used! Even though it’s quite pricey ( 159 at the time of writing), it is definitely worth the price. It’s an easy recommendation from him.
After not having a standard wet shave for over 20years & using multiple electric shavers over that time i can say without a doubt that this Braun Series 8 is by far the closest shave i have ever had by an electric razor.
First impressions when opening the box was it looked like a really premium product.
The razor itself has a decent weight to it, with the fit & finish of the razor being really high quality, not to mention looking amazing on the side when its in the charging stand.
Now granted it’s not a cheap electric razor by any means but the price tag definitely shows in the quality of the product.
When using it if you slide the big oval switch up it allows the shaver head to move freely & adjust to the contours of your face.
There’s also straight edge trimmer on the back that slides up if you need to do your sideburns or line up your beard.
The battery was flat when i received it but what surprised me the most was how quickly it charges & i love that it has a display on the front to show how much charge is left in it.
With my old razor it was always dying mid shave as i never knew the battery state prior to starting to shave & it would always take forever to charge up so i’d end up walking around the house with half a beard for around a hour while i was waiting to be able to use it again.
Definitely not a good look or good when your in a rush to leave the house so the fact that this Braun Series 8 has a super fast 5 minute quick charge is a game changer for me although just having the battery display on the front will eliminate that scenario from now on.
In the box you get
The Razor
Charging stand
2pin Charger cable (around 34 inches long)
Cleaning brush
Travel case
Overall i really liked this razor, by far the best shave i’ve had with an electric razor to date.
The only downsides i found was the razor is a tiny bit louder compared to my last one, maybe around 15% louder.
It didn’t come with a two pin to UK 3pin adaptor so had to buy one separately before i could use it as i don’t have a shaver point in my home & my last razor’s charger cable was a standard 3pin.
But other than that its an amazing bit of kit & would definitely recommend looking into the Braun series of shavers if your after a new electric razor.
This comes packaged up neatly and in the box you get:
– Razor
– Case
– Charger cable
– Charging stand
The razor feels nice to hold in the hand, it is nice and light and the button is easy to activate.
The razor head is quite stiff, it doesn’t move about freely like previous razors have done but it clicks into the position you want – I’m not a fan of that.
Shave wise, it’s a Braun! I’ve used various iterations of their razors for a long time, I found that this gave a nice close shave and didn’t leave me with any irritation or rashes.
It’s easy to switch between the trimmer and the razor, simply slide the switch on the front, and slide the trimmer up!
If you need an everyday razor that’ll do the job, then you won’t be disappointed with this. Given the choice between the 8 or 9 though, I’d splash out a bit more and get the 9.
Smooth comfortable shave without any irritation or nicks I had an old series 7 shaver from Braun and this is much better in every aspect gives a close shave in no time at all easy to clean however for this price it would have been nice for the cleaning station to be included. The battery is excellent lasts for around 3 weeks with me using is every morning for around 2/3 mins it also has a quick charge function that is useful if you forget to charge 5 mins gives you enough runtime for a single shave can be used in the shower or with shaving foam too the shaver head pivots to follow any facial contours but can also be locked in position the pop up trimmer also works well.
This Braun Series 8 electric shaver with 3+1 head, precision trimmer, charging stand, cleaning brush and travel case arrived nicely boxed /presented, so would be a great gift idea.
I have it in silver with black.
Shaver looks and feels of a premium quality.
It is comfortable to grip, hold and use. It has its weight, but isn’t heavy.
It doesn’t vibrate very much and is reasonably quite.
It cuts close to the skin leaving it nice, smooth and pleasant to touch.
It doesn’t have problems with adjusting to the face shape, it is slightly better than series 9 as the cutting head is a bit narrower, so easier to maneuver.
My partner shaves fast and the results are very good.
It doesn’t cause skin irritation, but my partner uses aftershave balm for the sensitive skin anyway.
This shaver has a very good battery which charges fast and keeps charge for long.
As we are going often for the trips in the campervan I also got him the charging case, which works well with it and prolongs its already very good battery life.
I found it easy and fast to clean.
I’m very pleased with this shaver so would happily recommend it , especially now when the price is really reasonable – 159.99.
I was pleasantly surprised by this electric shaver, on first use it was noticeable how powerful the motor is in this and really ploughs through stubble. I’ve used both with wet with a small amount of shaving foam and dry. I do find less irritation with the foam, however, the shave does take slightly longer. I found best results using every day as it works best on short stubble and the clean unit keeps the razor fresh and clean. This is very good value for money. Would recommend this to friends and family.
Want a powerful yet gentle shave, then look no further.
The Braun Series 8 electric shaver came in an impressive cardboard box, securely packed, with all the necessary instructions and accessories (charger, brush, storage case, stand) for a perfect, flawless shave. It’s user-friendly and has a LED battery display.
A unique Sonic Technology with 10,000 micro-vibrations is guaranteed to give a smooth shave every time.
With 40-degree adaptive swivel heads, the shaver automatically adjusts according to my husband’s facial contours, giving him a closer shave without any irritation or rashes on his overly sensitive skin.
The battery- life is quite impressive as well. With a 5-minute charge, he can use it for up to an hour, and a full charge gives him uninterrupted usage for several days.
Furthermore, it’s waterproof and comes with both wet and dry shave options.
The precision trimmer at the back lets him trim his sideburns and long hair effortlessly.
Made in Germany and with a life of 7-years, it does look durable and worth the price.
My husband is quite satisfied with the shaver overall, but he says the shave is not as close as he gets from the blade.
Otherwise, it works extremely well.
Satisfied.
[email protected] Steven B. Reed Senior Manager Blue Consulting Services says:
This bad boy gave me a very good clean dry shave as soon as I had charged it up.
There are minimal frills with this shaver. You get a pouch and cleaning brush.
The shaver head moves nicely to the contours of your chin and neck and does really get where some others seem to fail to go.
It’s loud when in use, which is the only minor comment I’d make.
Is it value for money?
It seems to be able to get where others don’t and do a good job and it’s effortless.
I haven’t compared other shaver prices to this one recently, but in the past i have seen competitors that were far more expensive – and going off the results of using it, it is a bit of a winner.
Braun has built a reputation on quality and performances particularly on their high value products.
This series 8 razor is surely not cheap but it does smoothly and efficiently shave my face without irritating the skin and the result is always impeccable on whatever hair length
I usually have a traditional wet-shave, although i have tried other electric shavers in the past but felt that the wet shave was not as smooth, and it felt itchy and irritated on my face, so reverted back.
However i have tried this and it does seem a lot better and closer to the skin than the other electric one si have ever tried, and used it already a few times, at first i kept clicking the front button upwards, accidently thinking it was the power switch, but with time will be better to remember that this front slider switch is for the head angle set in place or release to freely rotate instead.
The back has a gentle slider switch tool, again to lift up the back razor for a slimmer area of cut, very nice feature, and it only works when in the upward slide setting, not always on if not required.
The pack comes with a 2-pin shaver type plug, need to use a Shaver adapter (sold separately) to use in a standard UK socket around the rest of the house to use the charger stand with it, (Charger stand or the end of the plug is OK to connect to power )
Comes with a cleaning finger tool brush to use, only under the blade head, not when switched on!
I suffered a stroke recently and decided to buy the Braun Series 7 as an alternative to a wobbly wet shave in front of the bathroom mirror. The Braun gives a fantastically close shave, in fact I couldn’t differentiate it from a wet shave, after I had mastered the art (never used an electric shaver before). The Braun Series 7 is very light to handle and easy to hold. It is too early to comment about battery life or general longevity, but so far I am exceedingly impressed.
obviously an import as no English instructions to be found
This is a very nice shaver, good build quality as expected from a brand like braun. Thank you for reading and I hope you found my review helpful.
Comprehensive travel shaving kit, I say travel mainly because of the travel case being included in the package!
+ Easy to use
+ Easy to clean
+ Not just a face shaver in my opinion
+ Good quality product
– Price is insane, it’s a 99 ki

Expected more as my old Remington had seen better days after 8 yrs of service.
I’d say that it’s ‘ok’ .
I would recommend this product.
Satisfied.
Previous Shaver was a Braun Series 3 – this is vastly superior product in every way.
