It’s a great watch if rather on the big size the Eco zilla as it is known is a very well made watch and very good value for the money
The Citizen Eco Drive divers watch is very comfortable to wear and very stylish. I get compliments and this watch goes with everything I wear. I highly recommend getting this watch for yourself of gifting it to someone.
I’ve never had a watch this size. It is well built, and doesn’t matter what somebody says about its size, it is what it is and should be. I would bet you will fall in love with it when you open the box.
As I said on title Men’s watch.
Be a man be a monster wear this watch.
Once I saw the same watch in yellow, I had to have the yellow pro maste
Moi
I love the watch but strap extender was missing from the packaging, strange when it was supposed to be from Citizen…
I love this watch for the appearance. Keep in mind that it’s big and very heavy. The only reason I gave it a 4 is because the strap is very uncomfortable. Would be fine, if I were a diver. I purchased adapters so I could use a nato strap. Update – I recently noticed that the inscription on the watch, which states it’s a professional diver watch, is inscribed at the wrong position on the watch. The inscription should start at the 12 o’clock position on the watch. Unfortunately, I am returning.
All’altezza delle aspettative. Semplicemente “mostruoso”.
The watch is fantastic for the price range. There are a couple of points that cheapen it for example the hands and the white center pivot. They look like toy watch hands.a black pivot would have been better.
The regular rubber strap felt great on my wrist I didn’t have any issues.
I got adapters as in the video and I’m using my Panerai straps and that changes the dynamics of the watch.
The straps cost the same amount as the watch.
The only concern I have is the warranty from Citizen. It only covers the mechanism and nothing external. I’m trying to get clarification if there is a leeway for buckles or bezels but as of now that is the only concern I have.
Citizen does not cover the case, bezel, or buckle or anything except the movement.
Because they are 2 small production marks on bezel, then I shall be returning mine. Sadly Citizen said I must send the watch back to them and they will “review” whether to replace it under warranty.
Great watch, very unfortunate warranty.
Very well made and so solid.
It’s more impressive actually holding the watch than Photos can relay.
Strap is stiff and a bit fiddly,
But it is a tool watch and I’m fine with purchasing adapters and a decent rubber strap for normal wear and beach time..
Lume is a very nice blue and initially glows well before setting down for many hours
Monstrum von Uhr!
Gestern gekauft heute geliefert.
Gre an alle Uhren infizierten!
Big , hefty, super solid, comfortable to wear plus luminescence on this watch is out of this world. Love everything about it.
I was an active BSAC scuba diving instructor many years ago and have always worn dive watches. This watch is built like a tank! It is easy to read, the alignment is superb and the bezel is positive. No denying it is a BIG watch, but sits well on the wrist and draws comments from everyone who notices it. Not for the feignt hearted, but a fabulous addition to my collection at a tremendous price.
BJ8050 or to give it its street name Ecozilla. This thing is a dumbell for your wrist. I do not think it would be possible to break this in normal activities – its a huge chunk of metal and with a 6mm glass and a strap like a corset. The timekeeping is fantastic and the lume is amazing – it will easily last all night and is two different colours. The watch is not just all show and no go either as its made for serious diving with 300 metres of water resistance.
Set all that aside and then try to wear it on the supplied strap – its not supple as rubber would suggest but rather like a very stiff leather. It takes some getting used to and time to break in. I bought some strap adaptors from the USA to enable alternate straps to be worn and it turns it into a different watch altogether. Don’t get me wrong – you are never going to forget that this is on your wrist but a good silcone or soft leather strap makes all the difference. Just a couple of caveat though, if you wear it on a cheap Nato it can be a bit ‘head heavy’ so get a good quality one (like a Zulu) or if you use a decent metal bracelet it becomes an even more beautiful thing but incredibly heavy. If you have thin wrists this might not be the watch for you.
Its amazing value for money but please give it some wrist time before you make your mind up. Some sources compare it unfairly to the Seiko Tuna range – I say unfairly because its not trying to compete with or be better than a Tuna its just Citizens serious professional diver. Give it a try and watch the number of people that stare at your wrist trying to figure out why you have a house brick on your arm.
If you like big watch’s ,then this will still surprise you as it’s big .Got mine for Christmas and I love it .One thing you need to buy are some after market lugs as the watch with the divers strap coming straight out of the watch body does not sit or wear well on the wrist .Unscrew the metal band on the back , fit the new lugs and then any 24 mill strap will fit like a normal watch ,I got the lugs for around 50.00 and fitted them with a new Barton rubber strap ,the watch is then very comfortable,in fact once you get used to the weight it’s feels perfectly balanced and doesn’t move .Great build quality and the lume is fantastic ,but ditch the original strap and buy the lugs if you want to wear this beast .
What a watch! Very heavy but I am used to chunky G Shocks so not a problem. The lume lights the bedroom up and lasts all night! I. Look forward to diving with it and looking at the build quality it will last years and probably even an earthquake. The only negative point I have and it’s worth being aware of is, I received the watch in a Citizen cardboard watch box, not the waterproof ‘peli’ box or miniature dive cylinder as other people have so maybe a note to Amazon to make people aware in the advert how the watch will be presented after purchasing it. So I was disappointed. But over all if you don’t mind the weight of it and the size then snap one up as it’s a classic timepiece that will last for years!
I have wanted this watch for awhile but just hadn’t pulled the trigger. Amazon had one discounted without a manual so I jumped on it and I’m very glad I did. This watch is awesome! It’s thick and heavy, which I like. You certainly know it’s there.
The lums are great and I could see it glowing even in lit areas.
I did like others and got a metal band. The rubber strap is not bad, but it’s not great. The rubber strap on my Citizen Aqualand is much softer and more comfortable. This one is not soft and is more rigid out of the box.
For the band I bought the Suppa Zilla bracelet. It matches very well and looks great on it. It was also very easy to install. It’s not cheap but being titanium I think it’s worth it and can not imagine how heavy this watch would be with a steel band.
I love the combo and think it looks great.
A bullet proof diver. Built to last. Strap is a little uncomfortable so adaptors are a must.
At the low price I figured I’d jump on the chance of getting the ever famous ecozilla. Well built and sturdy watch However as the two prior reviewer’s had noted mine also came with a second hand not even close to the markers. I’ve had other citizen watches and have always admired the quality and craftsmanship and accuracy but this one is just too much to overlook as it seems to vary as it goes around the dial. Although it’s a reduced price, 200 bucks is 200 bucks and I don’t want to have to settle for anything.
Update: a few days later I received the replacement. This time the second hand is aligned and all is well. One thing I failed to mention on ,my first review is there was no owner manual, just the warranty card to fill out. The second watch also did not have the product tag attached to the metal clasp on the band. Not an issue for me, but maybe for those who want to resell perhaps. Definitely an iconic watch to own, especially at this price.
This watch is a straight up tank. From a side view it looks like a flying saucer has landed on your wrist. It is however a very attractive looking watch , made with great quality that you can feel right out of the box. What I hate however is these silicone rubber bracelets they are uncomfortable and feel un natural to me ( my opinion) Amazon blew it out of the water with this sale on these they run close to 300 on eBay less for used , but why not get one for 199.00 while you can
A great feature fir these beasts is that they are upgradable. You can but the lug adapters and bracelet fir them. All okSo just the adapter for a nato strap if you prefer that . The Nato strap adapter is only about 20 bucks the lug adapter and bracelet I ordered are on the way as I write this review I’m sure it will change the way this watch feels on the wrist I’m not much fir Nato straps either but even that would be better then these silicone bracelets
If the rubber silicone strap was the only option and there was no way to upgrade this watch it would not be in my collection period the silicone straps are a complete deal breaker for me
But with the bracelet it’s a keeper . A true Sherman tank or ufo wich ever you call it
One k ok adt nite if your a silicone strap or bracelet kind of guy this is the watch for you don’t miss out on this killer deal Amazon delivery is second too none USPS is a disaster why they can’t get deliveries on time like Amazon is beyond me
4 Stars only because of the uncomfortable silicone strap
I like the watch very much, and it is very accurate.
I paid total of 180 now I see the price on Amazon is now 227-90p.
As a regular Amazon customer I am disappointed to have missed the lower price a a few days.
Best value 300m Diver around. Made in Japan. A very big watch, with great presence. Built like a tank.
A cracker of a watch , keeps superb time and only for men!
Did not come in the waterproof box. Instead it was a scuba tank plastic thing.
Nonetheless it’s a great watch, and huge.
This is a big, fat, beautiful and very well made pro dive watch.
LOVE IT!!
Suprisingly comfortable watch. Not too heavy at all. Nice lume.
If you are a fan of large watches, then look no further. Some people complain about it being too big. I expected it to feel bulky and heavy, but it actually is quite comfortable. The strap is a rigid rubber and has a silicon feel to its finish. It is a nice band, but the watch tends to try and rotate around. I spent $90 on the “quality” conversion lugs that can be found online and swapped out the band with a DaLuca (24mm) NATO. Now it fits absolutely perfect on my wrist. Another thing about the NATO bands is that they come in all different patterns/ colors. If you get bored with the band you have on it, it is easy to change the look with a different strap. I purchased this knowing that I would change out the band, but even with that you still can’t beat the price. This is a very high quality time piece for the money. The hands are nice and fat so they are easy to read with my older eyes. The fact that it charges with light means you never have to break the seal on the to replace a battery. Seiko makes a watch of similar size for about twice as much as this (even after the conversion). This watch gives you more bang for your buck for sure!
I love reading feedback but I am also the last guy to write it. If you Are looking for a statement piece or a big chunky watch……..just buy it! This watch it an awesome watch. I love heavy dive watches and I abuse them daily. I have only had mine for a few weeks but it has already been swimming, showering, welding , hydroplane boat racing, Jeep driving, Sawzalling, campfire building, and tinkering in the shop. The band that cover with this watch is great and really tough. But I am not a rubber band kind of guys and found it was not super comfy after multi day wear. I NEVER take my watches off . If you do …this shouldn’t be an issue . However I saw that other people bought aftermarket Suppaparts ECOZILLA Lugs and bands. So as you can see I did the same. Suppa parts are expensive it seems but after buying the watch I was committed……..I placed the order and then realized it was a Paypal to Hong Kong. I thought I had just lost my money. I emailed them and asked to cancel my order. I received a very nice email statement that while they are in Hong Kong shipping was included (FedEx) and I would have my band and lugs in a few days. So throwing caution to the wind…….I told them to proceed……Literally 3 days later my band was here and I LOVE It. While not American …..these guys are true to their word and I found that reassuring email and the product pretty cool! ( If you Suppa guys read this …..Thank you for being so upfront) . Also thank you to the Amazon reviewers that suggested these upgrades. Long story short …….Buy this watch …..change out the lugs with Suppa, and Titanium band or the band of your choice. and you will have a really badass piece of equipment .
Big, chunky, looks great on the wrist. An awesome watch
I also bought a Rotary watch for similar money, both this and the Rotary are Dive watches, but this is far superior in terms of build quality and luminescents. It is a big watch, well huge, so not a dress watch as it’s thick and heavy and the strap is very stiff, but it’s actually very comfortable to wear (and I don’t have big wrists). This watch is a bit of a collector’s piece, as well as a fantastic watch to wear, and at circa 230, it’s a really good price. It came well packaged in a scuba tank “box” and it is a watch you’ll love to own.
Brilliant watch looks big easy to wear .if you love watches buy this one .now my favourite.thats saying something I have 41watches .
This watch is a beast, it’s made so well and looks like a real divers watch, even has that military look about it. It makes my TAG Heuer look tiny, I’ve added some photos so you can see this lovely timepiece. I’ve had Rolex watches, Breitling, Omega etc, but this watch is outstanding, no batteries needed, super tough, 300m water resistant, also the price is something you cannot argue about!
Ok this is an absolute tank of a watch very weighty and its wrist presents is unavoidable I love that the crown is mounted on the left hand side its different. This watch has a brilliant sixty click bezel with a really good long lasting lume. If you have really small wrists I’d avoid this watch also this watch will not hide under shirt cuffs.
Sweet God what a machine….buy the strap adaptors and you gona love it for what it is…
Superb watch, fantastic build quality
Be aware this watch is not for the faint hearted, it’s very large and heavy.
Lume is really bright. My watch has kept spot on time down to the second, the packaging is very nice an outer box and a pelican style plastic case. Iv been looking at the ecozilla for a few years now and decided
To pull the trigger on the Amazon warehouse deal, damaged packaging and scratch on the rubber strap there was neither basically brand new.
I have had my Ecozilla for about a year now and I absolutely love it. I have resisted getting lug adaptors, as I think the strap it comes on is very high quality and there’s no chance of it accidentally coming off due to a failed springbar. You can’t say that about many watches. Yes, it’s a big bold chunk of stainless steel and you either love it for that reason, or you don’t. 300m water resistance is probably conservative, as the watch case appears to be the same as the more costly 1000m rated Autozilla. It really is built like a tank! This is a future classic. Get one while you can.
Update: I’ve finally succumbed and acquired lug adaptors and paired them with a shark mesh bracelet from Geckota. See pictures for some idea of how it looks.
Personally I think the face despite being very clear is a little small, but otherwise it’s a brilliant diving watch designed to ho to depths up to 300mt. It keeps good time and glows bright in the dark, I’m very happy with it!
Proper tool watch. Built like a brick with enormous wrist presence. Probably not a daily wearer. Top quality materials and build quality and very striking. Ecodrive is fantastic! The lume lasts all night.
The “Ecozilla” (as this model of Citizen watch is informally called) is a big burly beast. The steel case has a 48mm diameter and 19mm height, with a 29mm band width: truly monstrous dimensions. But it’s not too heavy given the size and thickness of the case/crystal, so your arm won’t drag or leave you complaining too much about the mass (at least in my opinion — this is subjective of course). The mineral crystal is clear with no significant distortion, but with a thickness of 6mm it’s more bulletproof than probably any other watch you own. The unidirectional 60-click bezel is situated entirely within the diameter of the case, so to turn it you must press down from the top rather than grab it by the edge — a bonus because you’re much less likely to move the bezel by accident. The markers, chapter ring and bezel are perfectly aligned, unlike most of the new Seiko divers which have notorious alignment problems (just google “Seiko misalignment” and you’ll see what I mean). Citizen’s high torque Japanese-made B873 quartz movement oscillates at 32,768Hz and is solar powered with a six-month power reserve when fully charged, and two warning functions, the first indicating low power that doesn’t affect timekeeping, and the second indicating low power that does affect time-keeping. Second hand alignment is about 95% perfect around the dial, but literally every Ecozilla I’ve seen has a few dial positions where the second hand slightly retrogrades off alignment before advancing to the next pip on the chapter ring. This appears to be a consequence of the high torque and very robust movement design, and is not due to loose hands, damage or poor quality control. After all, this watch is rated for saturation diving in a helium-rich environment up to 300m, or almost 1/6 of a mile below the surface of the ocean. Accuracy is rated at +/- 15 seconds/month at 41-95F, with an operational temperature range of 14-140F, but mine runs only about 3 seconds fast per month. The lume on all three hands, plus the hour markers and bezel 0 index is good — not as bright as a Seiko but sufficient for diving. The florescent-outlined minute hand is especially highly visible. My only complaint is the common one with many watches these days that don’t have a “cyclops” magnifier bubble over the date window: “the date display is too small,” which is fairly trivial as it just takes an extra second or two to focus your eyes and read it. With this baby on your wrist you won’t have to worry about your watch failing for just about any reason — it really is the Ecozilla, a solar-powered marine monster dominating all comers! Best of all is when it’s on sale for under $200 new. Highly recommended!
First and foremost this thing is huge! What else would you expect from a watch with a nickname like Ecozilla. If you have small wrist you may not like the fit. It’s definitely a tool, low cost watch that is meant to be used and abused. I don’t dive… barely swim, but own mostly dive watches due to the sporty looking nature of them and for the most part the robust build quality they have. This watch has that business look to it. It screams for you to put on a wet suit and go shark hunting with nothing but a knife, all by yourself in a tiny boat. It’s manly and brave. G-shock sized. As for functionality it’s a watch with a date window and a unidirectional bezel. It’s perfectly legible and has good lume. As many others here have stated the second hand doesn’t quite tick on the markers but it’s easy to overlook especially if you bought it during the Black Friday sales for under 150 bucks. I own at least four other Eco-Drive model watches. All still working fine, all over 15 years old and haven’t serviced any of them yet. Then again most quartz watches don’t require as much service as automatic watches.
With all that said, if you like the look of it and the size, give it try. If you don’t like the rubber straps that come on the watch get some lug adapters (which I do plan on getting) and enjoy what is destined to be one of citizens future classics.
What a tank of a watch! If you have at least 7 inch wrists – you are good to go with this hockey puck, although some people with flat-ish wrist smaller than 7 inches might be able to pull this off. Diameter is large but with no lugs it fits better than the size specs would suggest – however, she sits very tall on the wrist. The watch itself was packaged beautifully and mine came with all manuals, cards, hang tag on strap, pillow, divers extension strap, and the cool little mini pelican case. I have 7.25 inch wrists and there is substantial weight with this piece – if you have smaller watches or lighter watches in your collection, you might be caught off guard with the sheer heft of this baby and it might take some time to adjust. The 60 click bezel works fine, the crown action is very smooth with about 6 rotations to secure on my model, the blue lume is strong and I could easily tell what time it was at 5am this morning while in bed (I suggest you don’t wear this piece to bed or you might knock out your significant other while restless sleeping, lol). The hour/minute hand alignment is spot on, and the seconds hand is only ever-so slightly off the hash marks – not too bad. Forgot to mention – mine has a production date of June 2018 which is pretty much at the end of the last production batch. The titanium versions of this model (titanium ecozilla and titanium autozilla) have been out of production for some time, and these are also now discontinued – pick one up now before the prices go thru the roof and stock dries up.
First and foremost, this is a really nice watch. It seems to be of outstanding quality and although large, wears very nicely. It has that appearance of being machined from a solid piece of stainless steel (it’s mutiple components actually) that really caught my eye when I first saw it. Although I’ve seen some complaints about the strap, I like it (I may pick up some lug adapters if I get bored with it, just to have the option to switch bands).
My only complaint was the packaging situation from the supplier. This is actually the second one I’ve received in the last couple of days. The first was received in a plastic Pelican-like case that was not latched. Inside, everything was present and appeared new except the manual. The front cover was heavily creased, as if someone had been reading it for years. There was an issue also with the date adjustment feature. I’m not sure if this was a recycled return or what. I shipped it back on Friday and was credited back AND received another one on Saturday! (Amazon is amazing!!). The new one came in a black cardboard Citizen box with the black Pelican-like case inside. Everything was there and appeared new except the manual was missing and the strap on the watch was open and not secured around the foam as it appeared it should. Nevertheless, it looks perfect and works perfect, so I’m happy.
*Update
After a day of examining this watch, I noticed a consistent rattle coming from the bezel. I did not notice it at first, so I don’t know if it loosened up more after turning the bezel a few times. The bezel turns easily, which is fine, since the bezel has a somewhat unique recessed or shrouded design that would typically prevent accidentally turning, but the rattle is more indicative of a poor tolerance. It maybe just this watch and another one of tbe same model might be better, but this one is going back. I yanked a star due to two watches now with minor issues.
I first saw this watch 12 or more years ago. I’ve always wanted to own it. I was amazed to see it appear on Amazon during some browsing. I really had to question whether it could be new. It doesn’t appear on the Citizen website with the exception of Germany. When mine turned up it was from Germany but had come from a supplier in France. The watch is perfect and definitely new. I’ve read critical reviews and some seem justified. If you see that the labels are in German you might expect it to be original and new. If you like robust purposeful watches, it doesn’t get better than the ‘Ecozilla’. It has become the daily wear. It is heavy and the strap isn’t the most comfortable but I can’t say it bothers me overly. Can’t believe I managed to get one after all this time.
I received my watch today. First and foremost, its a ‘watch’. A watch the size of a small planet, but nonetheless still just a watch. It has no chronometer on it, nor a barometer, nor even an altimeter. But you are not buying a Casio here, I suspect if you buy this watch you already decided that you aren’t bothered about bells and whistles. It tells you the time and date, glows like a neutron star in the dark, and doubles up as a blunt-force object if you are ever caught in a tricky spot against some big lads sporting tattoos and steel cap boots. You can also wear it in a cat5 hurricane and not worry about it failing on you. Its a tool watch, and it serves that purpose in droves. Plus it looks DAMN good. Its a watch that serves as ego-food for those who want everyone ELSE to know what they are wearing. This will just keep going, and going, and … well, you get the point. And you can dive with it, it has ISO certified water resistance down to 300m/1000ft.
The extension strap for wearing the watch over a dive suit, or a big thick Shetland wool jumper, is a welcome addition. Packaging is nice, the black box with silver trim instantly tells you you bought a watch that your neighbour never even realised existed, let alone might be sitting on his mantelpiece. This is an eco-drive, so works on both indoor and outdoor light. It supposedly has a 180 day reserve when full, so shouldn’t ever run out of juice with normal use. I suspect this might just be the last watch I will ‘need’ for quite some time. Desire is another matter, but I wont have a material need for a working watch because I suspect this will be on my wrist in 10yrs time still going like a beast.
The date is a little small, but that seems to be the trend in dive watches. If I need the date its on my smartphone or the TV guide, so its not a dealbreaker at all. Its not so small that you cant see it with a little prolonged focus, or with reading glasses. There is talk of how uncomfortable the strap is. Myself, it seems fine. Not uncomfortable at all. No more than any other rubber strapped watch I have. I will probably get the suppaparts or citi adaptors, in case I decide a NATO strap is the way to go in the future.
Right now im blissed out that it is on my wrist in person, a big smile on my face. This watch is no joke, its a total monster. A very worthwhile purchase.
UPDATE- Three weeks in, this might just be the most accurate watch i’ve ever seen. I set it by BBCNews when I got it, and its not lost or gained a single second. Not ONE! Unbelievable. Every hour BBCNews hits the hour, and the EcoZilla matches it to the tick. Incredible watch, BUY! I doubt a 2000 watch would match it for accuracy
Having been an owner of a Citizen Promaster Aqualand II dive watch for the past two decades… I just picked up a Eco Zilla as an eventual replacement/back-up as I was having my Aqualand II serviced for a battery replacement, gasket change and pressure test. I initially had spotted the Eco Zilla a couple of years ago on a cruise in the Caribbean, and was impressed on the overall look of it.
After reading the outstanding reviews and seeing an offer on Amazon that was hard to pass up on, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a purchase. All I can say, is that this dive watch is a literal “no brainer”… if you are looking for something that just does the basic and keeps time without the bells & whistles of a depth gauge and/or alarm, then this is the dive watch for you. Mind you, this watch is not for everyone as it may not look too good on some gents… as an example, I am 5’11” weighing 220lbs with average 8inch wrists, and as such this watch works for me.
The Eco Zilla has a no nonsense rugged and substantially solid built look, which literally implores you to man-up ! and begs the question whether one truly has the urge to submerge… Thank you Citizen for coming up with this relatively new series of dive watches and looking forward to many years of diving with it, along with my Aqualand II which is 18 years old and going strong with over 500 logged dives… meanwhile I need to have my Testoserone levels checked as I am quite certain they may have been boosted upwards from wearing this watch !… 🙂
UPDATE: Since the above review I have gone ahead and taken the Eco-Zilla, to half a dozen deep wreck dives in the Florida Keys this past summer, and this watch rocked !!! definitely a great addition to my dive gear and watch collection. When I put this watch on with casual wear either pre or post diving, it gives notice to others as to what my favorite pastime is… but to be honest, I prefer to treat it as a piece of dive gear and to wear it primarily for dive purposes.
UPDATE: Wearing the watch daily for 1 year 8 months now. Still like it as much as the day I bought it. Absolutely no complaints at all about the watch, I see this being my favorite for years to come. As for the wristband I never replaced it, it is far from uncomfortable and I have seen no reason for replacement.
I have had this watch for a week now and I still like it as much as the day it arrived. I’ll try to update the review after I have a little more time with the watch.
Before buying the watch I stopped by the local mall to see if they had this watch available in a watch store. The store carried the watch but it was more expensive then Amazon even though it was on sale in the store, the owner would not even match Amazons price. I was however able to see the watch first hand before buying it from Amazon. Honestly I was a little concerned about the size of the watch at first; I mean this thing is a monster and could probably be used as a weapon in an emergency situation.
With that being said, I absolutely love this watch. I have always been a large dive watch fan and this is by far the best watch I have ever owned. I like the looks, the size, and the weight. I don’t think the watch is overly heavy however there is no getting around the fact that this is a large watch – which I like. The luminous hands stay bright enough to read for quite some time. I could read them after the watch had been stored in my locker at work for 8 hrs.
I would not go so far as to say that the watch band is uncomfortable, however it is stiff and I will be looking at purchasing a pair of the ‘Suppa’ adapters ([…]) for the watch as soon as they become available again so I can try another band. This is probably my only gripe, that I need to purchase a ~$70 pair of adapters to be able to change watch bands (the craftsmanship of the adapters does look top notch however). I am thinking about a 24mm Orange Zulu 3 Ring Military Watch Band Strap […] once I have purchased the adapters.
If you like large dive watches then this is the watch for you. I watched a YouTube viedo on the top 10 dive watches under $300 and the Eco-Zilla came in 2nd place. I have no regrets and would recommend the watch to a friend.
As noted by others this is a large, heavy and thick watch. Unfortunately IMO the version with the stainless steel bracelet is no longer available that I can find. This version of the watch uses a unique strap attachment arrangement so that only the rubber strap can be used as received. Fortunately there are sources for adapters that allow use of normal 24mm wide watch straps and bands. Do a Google search for “BJ8050-08E strap adapters”. Multiple sources listed.
For the customer who complained of the calendar arrangement, his complaint is true of probably 95%+ of current watches which use a date wheel and window. Most however use a three position stem which when pulled out to the first not fully seated position allows resetting the calendar without disturbing the time setting. There are date window watches with a so called perpetual calendar, usually good to 2100, but that feature is going to limit your selection severely and up the price paid. Unless “Perpetual Calendar” is specifically noted as a feature of a given watch then the arrangement used by this Citizen watch is almost certain to be used.
The popular web name for this watch is the “Ecozilla”, short for Eco-Drive Godzilla. I presume this is in reference to it being big enough for Godzilla to wear! It is a large and heavy watch but with current watch style trends it is not the largest or heaviest. Not for skinny wrists however.
I have now had it for 12 years and still working great. If stored for a while so that the battery is discharged and the second hand stops then once it is exposed to light and restarts the time must be reset to get the second hand to start standard single second stepping again. READ THE MANUAL.
The “Eco Zilla arrived on time and in perfect condition. Upon opening and unpacking your impressed by the quality without even picking up the watch. As stated by many others this is not your” fathers Citizen” by any means , but once you get used to the size you find it wears much easier than one would think by looking at it . The build quality is excellent and without fault. The band is stiff but you would not want a flimsy band for this watch and the stainless steel buckle also has a high polish and finish to it. If you take care of this watch your kids kids will have it to enjoy. You must excercize care in screwing down the crown as its stiff to press in and screw but you get used to this you wont cross thread it. While the titanium one is lighter I dont think the cost difference makes it that much better , and besides stainless steel is very good looking and much more scratch resistant. I dont scuba dive but then many buyers dont dive either and really watches are much like any other accessory, its a matter of choice. As watch sizes go there are bigger watches than this but for me this is about as big as I would go. The watch keeps perfect time and you will find it a joy to own as Eco drive watches take the hassle out of battery changing chores and they last a long long time. I have many eco drives and one is at least ten years old and going strong and the case has never been opened. I know the seals are supposed to be checked and replaced every two years , but unless you dive with it , I dont do this. All in all as a gift for your husband or boy friend or any guy that likes watches you wont go wrong with this watch.
