If you have no experience with electronics it’s extremely hard to install but there’s plenty good videos on YouTube, I suggest the ons from Iamcaveman very good and detailed. My unit worked right away so very happy with it but tricky to install that’s why I think many people had issues
Takes about an hour install this first time. You just follow the youtube installation video and you are pretty much good to go. This is my third Extremerate Rise remap kit. Better get this 4 paddles version than the 2 button one. You won’t necessarily need the 2 extra buttons but they will come handy at some point.
Been playing Apex Legends with them and they do help A LOT with your movement.
First kit broke through extensive use. Snapped the paddle. The second I broke with my carelessness when transferring the kit to a new controller (cable latch helper thingie came un-stuck and I glued it back on. Mistakes were made and I don’t want to talk about it :/). It was going to be on the third controller with the same Rise4 kit. This one is brand new and just got it installed yesterday and tested it out.
So the paddles itself should be good to burn through multiple controllers as they are as easier to transfer than to install . You can skip the testing and putting together part. Also no need to do the remapping at all as it’s “saved” on the Flash of the chip.
Easy and affordable alternative to mega bucks Proprietary ones.
I see a lot of reviews complaining how their unit is busted and isn’t working. After looking at their supplied photos it’s easy to see that they have actively gone out of their way to skip a mandatory step of the installation process which is failing to exchange the trigger flex-cables for the flex-cables included within the installation kit (although they’ll be in a separate anti-static bag from the main RISE4 main flex-cable, they are included in the same box so don’t miss them.)
-This part is important as the RISE4 gets its power from intercepting the connection from these trigger flex-cables and NOT from the face-button contact pads.
The face-buttons complete a circuit only when pressed and the RISE4 needs a constant supply of power to work so this broken circuit wont supply constant power until a button is pressed and even then the RISE4 would have to adapt to draw power from different contact pads depending on which button is pressed at the time. In contrast the trigger flex-cables are supplied with constant power from the main board.
So don’t let these bad reviews fool you. Just follow the installation process and it’ll work exactly as advertised.
I am not endorsed or sponsored by eXtrameRate but missing core installation steps will obviously have consequences and I wanted to make that clear to anyone shying away from this product just because people fail to follow instructions.
Whether you’re scared of taking your controller apart or not, you have a whole 3~ opportunities to get it right in the form of Dualsense purchases before you reach the price of a “pro” controller.
Goodluck out there.
I had originally bought a RISE 4 kit back in June of 2022 for one of my 2 controllers, after using it for about 6/7 months I decided to buy a 2nd kit for my other controller as I have become very used to these and now even playing more casual games I find myself reaching for the back buttons.
Although the original kit I had broke, the clips on the back that hold the paddles in place broke and so the paddle stopped being able to swivel and press their button (the 2 inner buttons still worked perfectly fine).
I was so happy with them even with them breaking that I thought I would buy a 2nd kit anyway and while looking for the 2nd kit I also noticed that they sell the individual party (even the cables) which makes repairing these a walk in the park and really affordable especially compared to 3rd party controllers and now even the new dualsense edge controller (don’t waste your money on the edge controller, get these instead).
Although getting a fully re-mappable controller (including the L3/R3 and touchpad) requires some soldering it is a very quick and easy job, you don’t need anything other than a cheap soldering iron and some solder (this was my first time soldering anything) and I did it in 2 minutes, very easy and quick, also not needed if you just want the face buttons to be re-mappable, I only did this after ordering the 2nd kit for my second controller as I wanted both to have re-mappable L3/R3 to have less wear on the joysticks.
The only thing I wish was different is for the RMB version to come with an all-metal button shell, not just the paddles and buttons but also the bit that attaches everything to the controller shell (the bit that you have to screw on the back that holds the PCB), as this was the thing that broke for me in the first kit.
Exactly as Described great feel to the rubber back easy to install. Look at the YouTube video for instructions.
First of all, it looks GORGEOUS once installed!
That being said, it’s certainly more fiddly to fit than the old PS4 remap kits.
The inner buttons are a little sensitive, and I find I’m pressing them by accident on occasion when pressing the outer buttons, but aside from that they work great!
Unfortunately these kits are made all the more difficult by the amount of stuff crammed into Dualsense controller cases as it is, but once its done, its very much worth it!
I am used to playing with the Elite controller on Xbox so wanted something with back paddles for the PS5, without spending edge controller prices.
What a find this was! The build quality is great, everything fits well and the online video (Rise 4 rmb) was incredibly well but together and well explained. You do need to do a bit of soldering for the l3 and r3 but it’s straight forward. Just a small tip – warm the existing solder and the contact ring for a second before applying your solder as mine had trouble adhering to the board. I didn’t bother with the touchpad as I wouldn’t use it.
I wouldn’t say the buttons are as easy to use as the elite controller but it’s all still really impressive. Especially for the price!
Scuf for 250 nahhhh ps5 with this so much better. Easy install with a 2022 dual sense cheers
Update: even better the more you use it. ExtremeRate now sell an adapter for the official charging dock, negating the only real drawback.
Original review follows:
Easy to install. I taped with electrical tape instead of cutting (because I have different models of dualsense).
Care is needed, but if you can stick two lego bricks together and undo a screw then you can do this! (take photos of each step for reference just in case)
I did not solder – I only need the plug-in functions.
Blue Gripy is grippy and blue. The rubber grips are integrated with the shell, so no peeling edges like the stick-on ones. They don’t make my hands smell like rubber either, which is a plus!
They feel robust, all the haptics still work. Best value back-button option I’ve seen.
Only negatives are 1 it’s easy to press them by accident (especially passing the pad back and forth). You can mitigate by making the triggers stiffer or dampen the action – lots of tips online but I left mine stock and just be more careful. 2 doesn’t fit the official dock. I knew this in advance, it’s still a shame.
While I love the modded controller I’ve built with this kit the install is not simple.
The included instructions are a diagram for trimming the connectors and the web address for a YouTube video. The official video isn’t good but there are better ones you can find.
The end result is a great controller, there’s a learning curve to get used to the new rear buttons but I got through that fairly quickly.
There’s a very good tutorial from a youtuber called “I’m a caveman”.
Simply put, I wouldn’t have purchased this product without finding his extremely well thought of tutorial. He deserves more royalties or something.
The tension in the buttons isn’t enough is my only quarrel. I would love to be sent a harder clicking button set if it exists as I accidentally click the right paddle a fair bit due to the small amount of pressure needed to activate it.
Cheers tho, saved alot of money considering a scuf costs well over 220 for the same thing
If you want a SCUF controller without forking out the ridiculous prices, go for this.
Took a while to install, but there is plenty of online video tutorials.
Bought 4 of these in the last 2 months. 3 for the playstation and one for Xbox. Only reason I gave it 3 stars for installation is because if you want to have the touchpad and l3 and r3 there’s a bit of soldering involved and you basically have to take the whole pad appart. If you only want the triggers and normal buttons remapped it’s a 5 for installation as it’s pretty straight forward. Love the products extremerate dose and will definitely continue using them.
Relatively easy kit to install as the instructions are very clear to follow. Even the soldering part is very easy if you have a soldering iron. Thus is my 2nd one to mod now. Just be aware of the model numbers before purchasing as it may not be suitable for you particular controller.
Saw this after I considered spending 100+ on a pro controller for the back paddles/buttons.
Seemed a little daunting at first when I watched the video before buying it. However, once I had everything in front of me it was a lot easier than expected. Video tutorial was great, everything fit perfectly, parts seem a quality material.
Only thing I would say is that it gets a bit fiddly putting one or 2 cable back in, but I just used the tools provided for some additional leverage.
Worked first time! Great produc
if your going to fit the Rise2 or Rise4 back button kit you might want to install the eXtremeRate hair trigger kit at the same time as as your going to strip the pad down for both… takes about an hour to install (taking your time) this is the same time with or without both hair triggers kit and Rise kit…
my personal recomendation is to cut rumble motor wires and remove rumble motors (which are stuck in with adheseive tape) reducing pad weight, and cut wires for haptic trigger motors (if fitting hair trigger)…
probably done if you have a spare dualsense pad you dont mind loosing if you do the install wrong… can be fiddly to do install, but well worth the effort… not for the faint hearted.. suggest you watch install videos several times before purchase to help decide if your up to the installations
Few small issues installing but support was good. Will need a soldering iron if you want full functionality
Bit of a pig to fit, with me having to take the controller apart repeatedly to get it working. The bit on the back that holds the paddles is too close to the base of the controller so the paddles couldn’t possibly move, I had to put a small piece of plastic under the base plate to give them room to move.
Provides the exact back paddle features that the expensive brands like SCUF offer, but at a fraction of the price. Maybe not as easy to click as the more expensive brands but still works fine and does the job as intended. Watched an installation tutorial video on YouTube and the process was much simpler than I thought it would be. Would highly recommend these if you are looking for that competitive edge in FPS games without breaking the bank.
Was, as most reviewers say, a little nervous going into this but found a very useful video on YouTube and the guy walked me through everything. I was only remapping the X and O buttons so didn’t need to worry about soldering( you only solder for the R3 and L3 buttons).
Easy enough to go through even though I was convinced at a certain point I’d have to reopen it to fix something but all worked out well first time round, thankfully!
Still need time to get used to having back buttons(I have the 4 buttons attachment) but can already see a bit of improvement in the short time I have played.
Once installed and everything is attached it is surprisingly sturdy. One tip I would give is if you feel one of the buttons K1 or K2 isn’t clicking properly as if it’s stiff you will need to take off the top part of the K3 and K4 attachment and screw the little chip board down tighter.
Overall great investment and would highly recommend!
Directions were on the net, not easy but not too hard to follow! A good product, like a DIY Scuf but not quite as good! Better instructions would be good!
It can always be a bit daunting when taking apart official controllers… this came with everything needed and I was extremely impressed with the kit! There was a video online which was really easy to follow along with and get the kit installed. I wasn’t personally looking for the touch pad click or L3 and R3 controls, which meant no soldering at all.
Reason for me to upgrade to this was that I was fed up of using ‘the claw’ grip when running in elden ring and with this install it makes life sooo much easier and more comfortable, only thing which wasn’t perfect for me, (and was more personal preference), I went for the rubberized grip but did find it a bit ‘nobbly’, but fits the hand as well as the original pad, my partner however prefers this to the original. Material is high quality and easy to program once you know how, (follow the install video again for easy guide) Very happy with my purchase, the kit in general and have played with it for over 100 hours now and still looks brand new. 100% would purchase agai
This is a great product, however I personally couldn’t get used to it, the back plate with the paddles is just too big and sticks out too much for me to comfortably grip the controller. It is easy to install (didn’t do the soldering part) and it was easy to disassemble after I decided it wasn’t working for me.
Fairly easy to install with basic electrical and assembly knowledge. I bought the PS4 version a few years back and this ps5 version is far better and of superior quality.
Overall a 5 star product when considering how much a professionally made fps modified controller costs.
There was nothing technically wrong with this product hence me not asking for a refund but the back box of this is a little thick.
By this I mean that imagine putting something inbetween your PS5 pad and your middle fingers. What it does is create a slight but noticible change of angle on your wrists and for me personally changed me from playing like a demon, to playing like a bot. I just couldnt get used to it.
It’s the weirdest feeling ever, but I’m just going to give it to my friend and see how they get on with it.
Installation was very easy.
Maybe a note for the designer for next time to make it a lot more flush to the PS5 pad, as it would make a world of difference.
All in all. Very good item. Just not for me.
I really like the paddles, they where really easy to install. My main issue is that the k1 and k2 buttons are a little too sensitive imo. Decided to remove them and just use the 2 paddles as the other 2 buttons are way too sensitive.
Love the extremerate mod for the PS5 controller. Easy to install when following the tutorial. I will be getting another for my 2nd controller. Wish I had found them sooner.
This is great add on for your PS 5 controller. It makes you normal controller into premium pro controller. But, I would only recommend it for people have DIY skills. The installation is not easy and made it worse, there is no instructions in box. There are YouTube video. Only after watching the video, I found out it requires iron soiling to board to connect L3,R3 and touchpad. I don’t have it so I have to bypass those tree buttons. After that, it was not too bad.
You feel great after it done.
eally impressed with this, the buttons look and feel like they were made by Sony, in exactly the right spot. The mod was quite straight forward especially as you get all the tools in the box to do the mod, by following the guy on YouTube step by step it wasn’t even a bit stressful. Literally took about 30 mins and now feels like i’ve bought an expensive pro gaming controller. I bought the textured black to complement the white and it looks perfect, I also appreciate the little bit of extra grip you get too. When scuf controllers for PS4 were costing 250 and you can get this for 38 it’s a no brainer. I ordered Thursday with an expected delivery of Monday but arrived the next day for some weekend gaming, so was super pleased.
This mod is good and works perfectly, except, for me at least, the K3 K4 buttons are in a very awkward position and pressing them doesnt feel as natural as the paddles.
I was using the metal 2 paddle version and it feels great. I hope this rise 4 mod gets the same treatment soon.
After using a 2 button kit, when I saw this on social media, I had to get it. Swapping out the parts was a simple and direct swap. Now I have to get use to having 2 extra buttons. Though the K3/K4 buttons is usually where I place my finger to support gripping the controller when I use.
