Upgraded from a Moterola, and the processing speeds are a night and day difference. Phone looks trendy and google provides useful software tools which I recommend you look up a youtube video to fully utilise them.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersArrived as stated. It is a replacement for my sons phone, one that he dropped and broke. So this new phone appears to do everything he wants, google, various apps even the route finder sat nav thing. He is pleased and hasn’t said something is wrong with it. It does ring, because I’ve heard it, but it doesn’t mean he will answer it. Seems to be the right size – not sure how long it took to charge and set up but he was operational within about 2 hours. Screen looks ok. He bought the case and screen protector so we don’t have a repeat of phoneagedon. Seriously seems ok – sorted out a problem but really it’s a phone that does stuff.

Love my Pixel 6a, takes really good photos and not as pricey as buying new. As a Samsung user, took me a couple of days to get used to its settings but very happy with it. Would buy a refurb Pixel phone again.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPhone arrived without any issues. Bit surprised that it was just posted through the letter box especially with the value of the phone. Well packaged and seal intact so no problem. No issues with the set-up and transfering data from old phone. Bought for my son and he seems delighted with it.

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersPros:

Amazing phone for the money. Plays all the latest games. Having Google integrated with it, just makes it easier. Android updates for a few years too unlike some other brands that get outdated in two years.

    Cons:
Battery life. Something’s draining the battery. It’s a common fault with most of the pixel line. I’m charging the phone twice a day. My old OnePlus 5 used to last over a day on one charge. Also charging speed is slow compared to my old phone that had the fast charge.
The camera. It takes nice HDR images that look good for landscape photography, holiday snaps etc. But it overprocesses shots that you want to just look normal. Example would be, when I photograph my dog. She looks weird and totally unnatural. I have to load up the raw photo and use that, but even that has something done to it. Again my old OnePlus 5 took more natural photos with true looking colours.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI have been using my Pixel 6a for about a month now, and I’m really happy with it. I had an old Moto G10 before. The screen resolution is amazing, so clear, bright and deep. The camera takes gorgeous pictures and magic eraser is pretty clever! It’s reactive, much quicker than my old phone and the battery lasts a day and a half with regular use of music, podcasts and general (doom) scrolling! I do sometimes have the issue that others mention with fingerprint unlocking, it works and then doesn’t to unlock the phone. The only slight niggle is that there is no option for expandable memory, but that’s a teeny niggle. I like the slightly smaller size too. Overall it’s a really great phone.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI got this Pixel 6A as a secondary/ back up phone to my Pixel 7 Pro and wasn’t the slightest bit disappointed. I find the size very comfy to hold and as someone who relies on the TalkBack text to speech software it runs very smoothly on Android 13. Very easy to set up, and you get Googles free 15gb cloud storage (3 times more than you get with Apple)

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersResearch has paid off! – As with most phones, a review depends on exactly what is important to the user – ease of use and camera quality was important to myself. This is by far the best phone that I have purchased. The phone is extremely easy to set-up and use. Apps download super-quick, with the speed of every action being fast and accurate. The camera is by far the best, with picture quality being extremely clear and sharp. I haven’t had any issues with the fingerprint sensor, which was a concern after reading reviews, this is with a screen protector in place. Not having a headphone socket isn’t an issue, as bluetooth is preferable for myself. The phone did come with a charging cable and plug. I didn’t particularly like Samsung and did not want to become ‘all things Iphone’. This is a great alternative. I couldn’t be happier with the choice I have made, especially for the price. Would recommend.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersWeight is about 180g plus case, vs 140g last phone, and it feels heavy. Battery lasted about 3 days so far but I am a very light user, it’s on “dark theme” (so some screens black with white text which must save power?) and I mainly use on wifi – and haven’t tried it on 5G yet (which might eat more battery?). The camera is better than I expected and the keyboard works well. I set the font on largest and display size largest as my eyesight not great close up, it works and I like the big clock on the locked screen.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI kill phones. It’s never on purpose, but I was actually glad this time as I was fed up with my Samsung. It stopped connecting to my car for Android Auto, then it stopped charging up in the car, then it just stopped charging at all. When I found out this was due to a software glitch and nothing to do with the hardware that got it binned and I looked for something new. I chose the Pixel based on price and the fact Amazon had an interest free payment scheme, and the phone came with free Pixel earbuds (which have turned out to be great.) it’s not the best phone I have ever had, but it does what it says it does, picture and sound quality are good. No complaints and I would get another Pixel in the future

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThe Pixel 6a is an excellent mid-range phone. Although the fingerprint reader is temperamental and battery life is only average, the camera and software are excellent and represent a great place to get into the Pixel line. Compared to other similarly priced phones it has a higher end processor which will help it last a bit longer and feel more responsive.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersLove this phone camera is amazing it’s fast and easy to use also has a pixel guide app with helpful hints. Definitely worth the price the only downfall is the fingerprint sensor doesn’t work at all. It will take your finger print then will not recognise it when you try and open your phone. Just set a pass code instead.

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI am writing this review after using 6a for last 2 months.
firstly I will write some of the pros according to me.
    Pro:
    1. Camera quality
    2. Build quality
    3. Size (maybe con for few)
    4. Speakers are really good.

    Cons:
    1. The most annoying thing about this phone is, we cannot turn off shutter sound in camera.
    2. 2nd Most is using firefox browser in pixel phone, whenever I use firefox, after few minutes phone gets stuck and automatically reboots.(which works absolutely fine in a very less costly phone)
    3. sometimes fingerprint sensor doesnot recognize finger print.
    4. Overpriced.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersDoes most things very well for a mid range phone. The only major drawback that I’ve noticed so far is that it won’t find any devices to screencast to unless you have a chromecast device to connect to. This is clearly designed to make you purchase a chromecast as older and cheaper brands can screencast to most TVs without issue.

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersPros:
    – Fast and well optimised device that results in a snappy experience
    – Excellent image processing from Google that makes the most out of the cameras on the device. Clarity, detail, sharpness, and exposure control are all brilliant when taking photos. Video is also excellent.
    – Good battery life
    – Waterproof
    – Speakers have great sound quality
    – Screen is nice

    Cons:
    – That fingerprint really is terrible from a huge tech company like Google. It is actually quite quick when it unlocks upon successful recognition, but there is no point in that if it is not reliable. All’s it takes is either some slight wetness, dryness, wrinkling, or dirt on your finger to give the scanner a really hard time recognising your fingerprint. I own a Samsung galaxy A33 (2022) and a Xiaomi Poco F3 (2021), and they can reliably recognise my fingerprint regardless of any slight change to the finger that I listed just before.
    – Like others have mentioned, it does indeed get rather warm when charging or doing something somewhat intensive. This was during usage in winter as well.
    – 8MP for a front facing camera is a bit of joke for the price they sell the phone for. I definitely notice the loss of detail and clarity when using the camera. It’s only thanks to Google’s image processing that it is somewhat acceptable.
    – Slow charging speed.

Golden Review Award: 16 From Our UsersThis was bought for my mother in law who was replacing a 5 year old Sony.
Setting it up was really simple, the simplest ever in fact. Connect your phones together and it does it for you BUT (a big but) it wanted to backup photos to Google Drive. That’s fine but you only get 15gb storage and that includes email storage if you use Gmail. It was quickly used up meaning emails couldn’t be sent until reduced (or pay to get additions storage). Didn’t find it that easy to delete files to free up space. Not sure it’s necessarily a pixel 6a thing, its likely because it’s Google.
Should point out, it was Google drive filled up, the phone storage was absolutely fine.
Phone wise it’s very good. Smooth, fast, clear display, good camera…….. here comes another but, there’s no back button! Had to Google how to go back a page without closing the page/app (swipe the page and an arrow appears) . Most will quickly get used to it, but for some technophobe or people of an age less use to technology, it’s a hurdle and a learning curve.
I’ll soon be looking for a new phone for myself and I’m impressed enough with the good points of the 6a that I’ll probably go for a pixel 6 (slightly bigger, better screen and camera). Plus you’re getting a high end phone for a fraction of the price of a Samsung or iPhone.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI don’t do fast-moving video games on my phone so its 60mhz refresh rate that some reviewers complain about is not an issue for me. Other videos work fine. It is great as a phone and as a receptacle for many apps. I also have a Pixel 4a 4G (for a different sim and usage) and guess my only disappointment with my 6a is that it does not obviously do anything better than the 4a which is a terrific phone and is a little more compact. For anyone who wants a pure Android experience, very good camera, and very good for every function for which I have used it (I have not gamed on it), I would recommend it.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersTwo points I have issue with.
    Sound
I had a pixel 3a and the sound was great but the sound quality on the 6a is not as good. I fixed it by downloading an equalizer app. Maybe we can get an equaliser in the next update.
    Camera
The Pixel 6a is almost the same size as the 3a but the screen takes up the whole of the device, so much so that the forward facing camera is at the to of the screen obscuring part of the display. May be an issue for some.
Aside from that a good phone

Golden Review Award: 119 From Our UsersI’m a little late to the Pixel 6A review party because the first parcel delivered to me contained, not a the gleaming new phone I was expecting, but hair products unlikely to be needed by a man of my advanced years. Imagine my chagrin. But the Amazon customer service machine swung into action and I soon received a Pixel 6A, and you know what? It’s not at all bad. I find the size nicely pocketable and the weight reasonable, it’s big enough but not a monster. Like myself.

    Display

The screen is certainly sharp enough, but perhaps a little lacking in punch, it can seem dim. If adaptive brightness is enabled, as it is by default out of the box, you’ll typically be looking at brightness in the 30% – 40% range, obviously to conserve battery power, which does not much impress.

A fairly low-grade of gorilla glass is used for the screen so I use a protector, but touch accuracy, responsiveness, and haptic feedback, are all fine.

    Battery & Charging

If you routinely exhaust your existing phone’s battery in the course of a day then possibly the Pixel 6A is not for you because it does not have huge battery capacity. But for a light user, as I am, battery life should not be a problem.

I charged the phone to 100% at midnight and left it powered ON overnight. The following day I used it for about 40 minutes navigation, a couple of dozen photos, some web browsing, this and that. At 9.30 in the evening the charge showed as 47%. I connected a power pack, and by 10.00 the charge was 75%, reaching 92% at 10:30. So the battery capacity is not awesome and the charge rate does not dazzle, but honestly? It’s OK for me, and while your milage will most certainly vary, unless you’re a seriously heavy user making and receiving calls all day then you should be fine.

    Performance

The phone is zippy enough, I’ve yet to notice any lagging, Apple won’t be fretting, but in its price band the 6A has to count as a powerhouse. I’ve not found it gets noticeably warm, but I’m not a phone gamer.

    Camera

You’ll already know the 6A does not have telephoto, and I guess you won’t be buying if that’s a big issue for you. In the vast majority of scenarios the two lens camera is fine for me, producing pretty good shots. My attached photo of pink geraniums was taken on a dull afternoon with 5x zoom.

    Fingerprint Unlock

No unlocking method, I’m quite sure, is as plain reliable as Apple’s Face ID, and I’ve never come across a fingerprint recognition system remotely as effective. But you don’t get a new iPhone at the Pixel 6A’s price, sad to say. Initially my 6A finger sensor was plain unreliable to the point it was almost useless, but since I installed the QPR Beta 1 update it has worked very well. Note: You have to register with the Android Beta Program to be offered Beta updates, but the fixes should be rolled out in a public release of Android 13.

My method of maximising fingerprint recognition reliability is:

    – [ ] Ideally, don’t use a thumb or index finger, those digits are our most vulnerable to nicks and abrasions etc in daily use. I use my right middle finger, which works fine for me because I usually hold a phone in my left hand and poke at it with my right rather than use it one-handed.
    – [ ] Use all the fingerprint enrolment slots, the Pixel 6A has only four, for your chosen finger. This gives the recognition algorithm a vastly greater chance of recognising the print because it has a larger data set to compare with.

Here I should say I have never experienced the widely-reported Pixel 6A problem of the phone unlocking for any old random fingerprint.

    Overall

With the fingerprint recognition issue seemingly resolved I am now happy to recommend the Pixel 6A. At the price I don’t think you can buy better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Possibly A Very Good Buy
