Fantastic game, loads to do, graphics are brilliant. Very, very well made game that my partner has spent many hours on trying to complete! He’s definitely getting use out of it!
Love the Harry Potter universe, and the immersion in the Howards world is great, That immersion can occasionally be broken by Legacy’s dicey performance, Combat is fantastic, challenging, and utterly captivating.
Great game although once the storyline quests are done there isn’t the desire to go out and explore like in a GTA game. I did enjoy it a lot though. Probably played for 60 hours or so. There is the possibility of playing it through 4 times (once for each house) if you are a diehard Potter fan. A couple of the missions change depending on which house you are sorted into, so it does have that going for it. Although I felt that they could have made the storylines more different depending on the house. Although I appreciate this would be like having to make 4 different games.
Absolutely love this game, great to explore Hogwarts and the surrounding areas. Even better with the newly released arachnophobia mode as without it some of those spiders are terrifying! Great graphics.
Fully emersive, emense open world experience. The game makers are obvious potter fans as the lore is adhered to from the get go! Its starts with your letter then you create your own character and then you get to create your own legacy! Can not recommend highly enough, I would say this is the game we have been waiting for, I only hope that there are more games coming soon in the same vein from Avalanche and Portkey Games. Will mention the disconnect with the whole JK Rowling and her anti trans stance, I don’t agree with what she is recorded as saying however what I will say is the world she created has been more inclusive and that is demonstrated by some of the characters in this game!
A gorgeous looking game set in and around hogwarts. However, for me, it got a little repetitive, and a little boring after a while. Was great to start with though
Fell in love with this game the first time i saw the trailer and it didn’t disappoint! A must have game for Harry potter fans! Really loved the fact that it was its own standalone game with nods to the original series of books but someone who has never read the book or watched the movies could play the game and not feel like they were missing anything in order to play.
There is a lot to this game with the world in it being a lot larger then you think. Lots of hidden Easter eggs if you know where to look.
As a massive Harry Potter fan I’ve been dying to play this game since it came out and it is worth it….just maybe in a sale. If you’ve longed to explore hogwarts as it’s described in the books look no further.
I recommend not exploring until you get the 3rd unlocking spell as you will become frustrated with the places you long to go only to be denied entry until you have the spell after that my favourites where the dungeons where may find certain types of parties and the kitchen.
Story wise it is interesting but the combat gets repetitive and overall it felt a very flat ending. I think for a first game it was a good effort and I hope they make another and tweek certain aspects the world created is rich with various types of horrors would love to have seen more variety.
Not much more to add, the reviews on here speak for themselves. Great experience and would highly recommend.
I’m 30+ hours in, completed the main story and probably got another 30 hours or so yet to platinum. Definitely one of the better games in a while. I’m NOT a big Harry Potter fan and have only seen a couple of the movies, but I love RPG’s and open world games so wanted to try this out. I’ve got over 150 hours in AC Valhalla and I’d say I am probably enjoying this more. Feels much less of a grind and a new experience.
Huge map, combat is fresh, attention to detail and graphics are amazing. Plenty to do. Story was decent and the character customisation is up there with other AAA RPG’s.
Yes, there are some elements that feel repetitive after a while but that is expected when you’re north of 30 hours into a game. Name one game that doesn’t.
If you’re a fan of RPG’s just buy this, you won’t be disappointed.
Enjoy this game for what it is, don’t expect any reference to Harry Potter and Co. It’s a good adventure game but does get a bit dull once you’ve finished the main story. I found the end, a bit flat. Hardest thing to do is flying the broomstick through the loops.
I loved this one, just exploring Hogwarts itself is phenomenal, the level of detail that has gone into this game is excellent. The only criticism is there’s a lot of pointless filler tasks like exploring caves and so on. I would rather have seen more side quests and more locations, but still, a great title, I rate it 9/10.
A really great game for any lover of the Harry Potter films and books.
The storyline and missions are a bit weak and never really captivated me, but I had the most fun just running around the castle.
The combat is fun and unique, although gets a bit samey after so many hours.
Ultimately enjoyed the 60+ hours I spent on it.
I’m a 34 year old who grew up reading the Harry Potter books as soon as they came out and the Hogwarts in this game is everything I imagined it to be and more.
The games has got a fairly good storyline, as well as lots of challenge. Once the main story is complete there is still so much to explore, discover and unlock. I got the games on release day and I am not bored of it yet even after hours and hours of gameplay.
This game could have been great but I keep hitting to many glitches. Collection chest that are there on the map but not in the game. A block locked in a cage needed to open a locked cave I unlock the cage but the door won’t open. I have played through 4 times and still cannot get a 100% as I am unable to get everything with the glitches.
But I have played it 4 times as each of the houses and I decided to go with the games instance on calling me a them and not a he or she and made my characters look like boys but picked the witch on the gender setting so I was able to explore the boys quarters in the house dorms. Wizards are of course not allowed in the girls quarters.
I think the makers missed a fantastic opportunity to give professor Binns a living body and a fantastic story line. And the characters in the towns you meet felt half finished you walk in to someone’s home and pick up a letter but it doesn’t lead to a mission. And why is a student walking in to people’s homes and rummaging in chests. I sort of get why I did it with a Slytherin but a griffindor stealing from people.
You don’t have to be a fan of Harry potter to play this game. But I really wish they had spent more time on the concept of the game as a mission towards the end of the game gave me a graphorn and I would have liked that earlier.
This game is a solid 7/10 action RPG with lots of side quests and a lengthy story. It jumps up to a 9/10 if you are even remotely a fan of the wizarding world. There are so many nods and Easter eggs scattered throughout the game that it makes it a fascinating world to explore. Combat is crisp and you do have to think about what spells to use when because they do all have specific and very different effects. It gets really intense at times but not in an overwhelm or frustrating way. Yes it’s not very diverse in it’s scenery but it’s set in the Scottish mountainswhat do you expect?
The main story is fine but I got far more invested in the 3 relationship quests which are interesting, different and feel worth taking your time over.
Not the best game I’ve ever played but it’s the one I’ve enjoyed the most for a very long time.
Decent franchise, fantastic graphics, great storyline. Plenty of side quests and things to do to get your moneys worth out of this game. Once you’ve finished one storyline, you could essentially start 3 more for the other houses with some different side quests, and you can choose different types of people you want to be. Decent human being or a complete a-hole. Or the mixture of the 2.
I’m hoping there will be extra downloadable content in the future with this game like so many others. Either purchasable items, new stories and quests, extended rooms to the room of requirement, new beasts to capture etc etc. That would be awesome.
I love this game, as a 30 something with a 4 year old girl I don’t play a lot of games, usually I play a couple of matches on FIFA and that’s about it, however this game has taken me back to being a kid where I can spend hours playing my way through the quests. Good points, the game visually is stunning and the level of detail that has gone into the game’s looks is incredible, honestly you could spend hours just flying around looking at the world. Also the combat I find very enjoyable, it’s not very taxing which I appreciate and I’ve never got to a point where I don’t know what I should be doing which again is a big plus for me.
Downsides, the story mode plot didn’t really make me turn my head, oh so hear we go again 4 main trials with quests conveniently placed in between them to stretch it out etc etc, having said that it kept me going back for more. Other downsides for me is that the castle and world seems to be very sparsely populated I would have liked more of a hustle and bustle feel to the game and sometimes wandering around the countless empty ruins just creeps me out abit. Also the music has the same effect, I’d like something a little more up beat than the constantly on edge feel of the orchestra. But really I’m being picky. The menu modes are a little daunting when you first start the game as there are so many options and collectables, upgrades and items to obtain but as soon as you’ve played for a few hours it all seems to fall into place. The same goes for navigating around the castle/world, when you start you can’t imagine how you’re going to make your way to all the places available, turns out the game makes this quite easy with all the floo flames and waypoints etc so all in all go for it, it’s a brilliant game.
I love the game, feels like I’m in a Hogwarts based movie. Controls are great, and there is SO much to do!
Only downsides I’ve found via playing thus far is that there’s NO Quidditch (real shame since the GC/Xbox/PS2 era had it’s own dedicated Quidditch game. Unless this is a blatant ploy for DLC
Another issue is the graphics, they could be better on the character models, especially the faces. They feel like they’re taken from a PS3 game, and there’s still too many limited options on character creation. With such limited scope, you end up making similar characters to each other every time. Suppose there had to be some concessions due to the scope of the game itself!
Love this game! I’m a horizon, uncharted kind of a game player and I love this game. Had it for about a month and I still love it.
The character creation in great, the detail is amazing. The combat was strange for me to begin with but I got used to it and now enjoy it. The puzzles are enjoyable and lots of them.
Only real downside for me is you can’t pause cinematics . So if your in the middle of one of these and you need to speak to someone, answer the phone, open the door your going to miss the dialogue. It’s a pain and I’ve had to reply the whole section just to find out what’s going on. Also you can’t ride a dragon.
For such a new and large game I was expecting far more glitches then I’ve experienced . I’ve play for 60 plus hours and have only see one glitch and it helped me defeat an enemy so I’m not sad.
If you don’t like Harry Potter I don’t think that will stop you enjoying the game. It’s set so far before that stories that it’s really just the location that ties firmly to them.
I’m still going to give this game a 5 star even a pre order was late on release day. I make reviews for a website so had to send this back and buy elsewhere! This is the 2nd time thiz has happened so I will no longer be pre-orderon Amazon Again.
On another note this game is hands down ons of the best totally findhed games on release no day one patches to fix utterly broken games. Thiz game is absolutely massive sone sites on release said it might only be 8 hrs! Not a chance there 9 trials you need to do plus dide quests and of course attened class to learn spells pottery and other magical stuff after all you are a student in a magic school. After many many hrs buildung up gear unlocking a broom a mount and creatures from fantastic beasts the game opens up and the content is rich and not repetitive like Ubi games. No micro transactions or anything like that just a magical word of fantastic gamplay. The only otger game on release in recent years released in a finished state is Elden ring but souls games arent for everyone. But this game has it all for all types of players the world is deep and the vombat is fantastic. Well worth getting thiz game if you haven’t all ready.
Not a great deal I can add to other reviews here, just a beautiful game in pretty much every way.
Glorious on the PS5 with true next generation graphics options, a cinematic soundtrack, a good original story, loads of accessibility options and simply a joy to play especially at the start.
After almost 2 years of disappointments barring a couple of notable exceptions this game immediately grabbed me and I’m not really even into Harry Potter myself so that says a lot.
However, once I’d got around 10-12 hours into the game and broom flying was introduced I began to get annoyed because of the flying controls being quite poor. I also gradually got bored of the repetitive side quests and lost interest in the game at around the 20 hour mark so I have changed this review to 4 stars, it’s still a very good and well polished game but I got bored unfortunately.
Im a 50 year old and am really enjoying Hogwarts Legacy on the PS5. Its a RPG game set in the wizarding world with a great story to follow your adventures. Gameplay is a mix of puzzles, unlocking items, learning spells, learning to fly on your broom and exploring a huge world around Hogwarts. Graphics are great and storyline engaging.
Its not an easy game though, the combat is quite challenging (defense is more important than attack i find) so dont expect an easy walkthrough (unless you select easy) and some of the puzzles are quite difficult as well. You need to think through all the magic at your fingertips to work out how to solve.
Its not a cheap game but I am already 12 hours in and hardly scratched the surface. Gameplay is varied and the world huge and interesting. Characters are engaging.
If you have any interest in the Harry Potter world you will love this game. My 10 year old is playing his own way through the game as well and is progressing about the same speed as me (he uses a different approach to defense in the combat scenes which is interesting as well. More than one approach works). So its good for young and old. This is the game i got the PS5 for and it doesnt dissapoint. I suspect there is 50hours + of game play in this.
As for millions of others, Hogwarts Legacy has been itching in my mind since the PlayStation reveal. Despite the controversy & apparent boycott (which most of us can sympathise with greatly), the hype for this game has been crazy.
Despite any concerns I had, this is a great story within the world you all love. There’s plenty of twists and turns, iconic moments and opportunities to create you’re own wizarding story. I’m currently 35 hours deep and haven’t finished the main storyline, as other quests, puzzles and general exploring has occupied my time.
Hogwarts & the surrounding areas are rich, visually stunning and incredibly accurate to the source. You’ll appreciate the detail the developers have gone to here. Exploring Hogwarts, Hogsmead & other parts of the world is just awesome. And the map is a big boy.
The game plays great on PS5 and next gen, although I’d bet the game might suffer on previous gen consoles, especially the Switch when it comes out.
Ps: the exclusive side quest you get on PS5 is asbolutely legi
I’ve just spent a whole weekend playing this on the PS5 and – Wow. This is what I always wanted computer games to be! I admit I am a fan of both open world RPG’s and the Harry Potter series, so I have the potential to be biased, but regardless, I have to say this is an incredibly well polished experience. The story is intriguing, the graphics are beautiful, the world is huge and immersive. It feels like this is one of the largest open world games I’ve ever played – there’s a LOT to be seen and keep you interested.
Combat is very well handled, a large pool of spells gives you plenty of options in each battle but it still manages to keep the combat streamlined, fast and challenging. Flying on your broom is both fun and thanks to some truly breath-taking Scottish highlands scenery even a long flight doesn’t feel tedious.
There are one or two minor quibbles but they are soon forgotten, this is an absolutely first class and highly enjoyable game.
Absolutely loving playing this. Even though I’ve only played a couple of hours up to now, the detail in every little thing in Hogwarts Castle is truly something to behold. I literally sat looking at the pattern on a mosaic style floor for 5 minutes earlier lol, entranced by how good it looked and the tiny pieces it was made up of. You can easily slowly walk around the castle comfortably, completely taken in by the attention to detail the developers have put into this game. This is easily the most beautiful looking game I’ve played on the PS5 to date (and I’ve played a wide selection of games). If exploration is your thing and you like Harry Potter then you’ll like this. Highly recommend.
I’m 8 hrs in and can’t fault the adaptation from film to game world. Hogwarts bridge and courtyard are like I’ve already been there and everything in the castle captures the magic of the books and films very well. Spellcasting is fun and frame rate and graphics are really good on my 4k lg oled with nothing distracting me from the fun. Characters are a little too PG for my liking and lack the charisma and querkyness of titles like the Witcher and uncharted BUT this is the closest we have gotten to a real harry potter game so far!
So what I’m confused about is why in the 1800s there are open lesbian relationships and a trans barmaid. Now we obviously accept these things in our everyday lives because people should be free to express themselves and live happily in their own body able to believe that they are whatever they desire to be.
That’s cool and “yay for freedom of expression” BUT.
While we play a wizarding game we know that it’s all a fantasy and we can’t really fly broomsticks and goblins don’t exist SO why are they destroying the unreality and making it even less believable by changing the history.
People would not have been so open about their personal lives back then and I fail to see why it’s necessary to add this fiction to something that has enough fiction already. So you could include these characters and go to great lengths showing a sympathetic and accepting side from our characters perspective should we choose to.
Like in real life.
This feels like its forcing the opinions of others and trying to program people’s minds instead of games.
It’s a fun game but it just looks like the developers changed some dialogue and a voice last minute to appease a community they thought would damage their profits, just like the young actors and actresses who have joined the witch hunt on jk Rowling who think they need to shield themselves away from the growing mob of haters.
If you are a real fan, you will love this because your imagination being a reader will be able to make this your own experience and blank out any deviations from your idea of this beautiful world should be like.
I hope it gets patches and updates filling it with more stories and mysteries!
I’d give it 9.5 for the game world and creatures.
Some of the voice talents are ok but the majority of the casting is a bit lackluster. Sadly it was always going to be without the fantastic talents we were treated to in the films.
You will enjoy this game if you can look past a few flaws.
