This headset, to me, does exactly what it says on the package. Crisp mids and highs, and deep bass that you can almost feel. Whilst they are not cheap, they are certainly excellent value for money.
Highly recommended
I’ll keep this short and sweet. The headset is brilliant out of the box. It has a crazy good battery life (since buying it 3 weeks ago I haven’t had to charge it once and I work from home 10 hours a day), and the sound is decent. The downsides do suck though. Out of the box the sound equalisation was really weird for me. I’ve got used to it now but I didn’t like it at first, so I thought let’s try the HyperX software to fix it….big mistake. The software is useless. Like unusable useless. Half the time it doesn’t register the headset even exists. When it does realise it exists, the EQ settings make no difference whatsoever, and I don’t mean they’re barely noticeable, I mean the sliders don’t affect the headsets EQ at all as some sort of bug. The virtual surround sound also doesn’t work at all, and HyperX have spoken out about this publicly and basically said they’ve tried to fix it, it doesn’t work everywhere, if it works great, if not get over it.
If you are obsessive about finetuning the headset with EQ and want the surround sound, then it’s a gamble. The headset might work on your PC for this, it might not.
If you want an out the box great gaming headset and you don’t care about tweaking it, then go ahead and buy it, you wont be disappointed.
Got these to replace a pair of Arctis 7’s, which had started having battery charging issues.
I’ve had wired Hyper X headphones before, so I knew the sound quality would be excellent – it is. The software’s a bit of a faff, but you honestly don’t need to mess around with it – just leave them at default quality with DTS turned off, and the sound’s excellent for gaming or a bit of PC Netflix.
Battery life with these is phenomenal. After 2 weeks of gaming, it’d only dropped to 90%. These absolutely blow the Arctis 7’s with their 15 or so hours, out the water.
They’ve very comfortable, it’s easy to get a good fit adjustment, and I’ve had 8-hour gaming sessions where these haven’t overheated or squashed my ears at all.
Quality seems the usual solid Hyper-X standard, but only used for a couple of months, so time will tell.
Charging cable (when you eventually need it), is a pain. It’s so short you can’t use the headphones while they’re charging, it seems barely a foot long.
Would definitely buy again. No regrets when you compare these to some of the uber-expensive RGB-laden monstrosities out there.
Like genuinely, these last ages. They lasted me like 3 months after the initial charge. And it was 3 months of playing almost daily with my friends plus listening to music outside of that. The mic is pretty nice, I like how you can detach it. The range could be slightly better, but I mean it’s alright.
My only issue is that the voice telling you the battery percentage is broken, and it always just tell you the last charged percentage, if that makes sense. Like, it keeps saying 100% battery and then bam, the headphones suddenly die with no warning, and the first time this happened, I worried they broke.
HyperX have produced some of the best headphones I have ever owned and I keep coming back to them.
The build quality is great, being made of metal there is no chance of them getting destroyed from a twisted frame or being placed at the wrong angle. The padding is comfortable on both the top of the headset and the ear pads making all day wear a pleasure. When I purchased these (as a replacement to the high end Razer offering at the time) I was sceptical that the advertised battery life was a lie. It wasn’t! these really do last 300+ hours on a single charge.
I really don’t think I could recommend another pair of headphones. These are the ones to get.
Love how much battery life it has: taken 66 days til it informed me I had low battery left after months of daily use.
Some games it lets out a high pitch discharge noise as it joins the game or Windows startup but other than that pretty comfy for a big head.
I got it around the hundred mark price wise.
Bought them 13th of May.
Features wise, they are okay. Not great. The max volume of this headset is below level of other headsets I had in my life.
Turn on/off button is horrible design, on/off switch would be better.
Nice heavy but not too heavy feel, fits snug when its on. Sound is great quality with music, I will try them with gaming next weekend when my pc is buil
I had a HyperX Cloud 2 headset that I’ve been using for work calls. I wanted a wireless headset, and snapped this one up during a deal.
It was delivered to me on April 22nd. It had around 50% battery life. I’ve been using it Monday to Friday, some days just 30 mins, some days for 3-4 hours.
Today is June 25th (64 days later), I’ve yet to charge it, and it still has 3% battery life left!! I’ve not charged it yet out of the box! That is insane.
Comfort: good, same as with my wired Cloud 2s. I can wear them for hours without discomfort.
No Bluetooth: the main downside is no Bluetooth, but I use this for my work calls only, so I can live with that. If I want to use something for my phone, I’ve got a number of pairs of Bluetooth earbuds that I can use.
Latency: there are some reports of latency issues, just make sure not to use any of the fancy DTS audio processing stuff. I get the same latency as on my wired Cloud 2 when hooked up straight into the 3.5mm jack, which is very minimal.
Bottom line: The insane battery life makes up for any downsides this headset might have. Imagine having an electric car with a 5000 mile battery range, this is what this headset feels like. If battery life is important to you, this is the thing to have. Free yourself from the wires and battery anxiety.
Battery life is amazing, after days of usage for work and home the lowest I have had it go down to was 50% before deciding to recharge it. I had the wired version before this which was very good as well, but I was tired of having wires down the side of my neck. Being able to walk around the room without taking them off is fantastic. The sound is good, almost as good as the wired version, but you have to use the software to add equaliser to make it better. The wired version’s sound was possibly 5% to 10% better, but after weeks of usage you no longer realy notice the difference. I would never go for the wired version again.
After burning through a bunch of headsets for remote working, I knew what I wanted in a headset but didn’t think I’d find it: USB not Bluetooth (MS Windows Bluetooth implementation is terrible) and long battery life were the most important. After that. good build quality, good physical controls (no capacitive touch nonsense, sorry folks, your fingers are tactile, they have to make contact to orient themselves) and good sound quality for music.
I didn’t think I’d find a headset that met these specs but this one does. The battery life is phenomenal, I’ve probably charged them twice in as many months. The build quality is great, three months in. The physical controls are minimal and distinct from each other to the touch so you can’t mix them up. The sound quality for music is also great. The physical mute button lights a red LED on the the end of the mic (so you KNOW that you’re muted). If the mic was retractable, rather than detachable, these headphones would be perfect but as it is they’re pretty close
I have the headphone now for about 2 month and have only charged it once, using it almost every night for a couple of hours. It’s great from the perspective of battery life and having a wireless headphone really makes a difference in freedom of movement.
The downside is that the sound quality is only mediocre and does not compare to my previous HyperX Cloud 2 wired. I have gotten used to it after a while, so it’s workable, but if you will take a hit on sound quality moving to wireless here. I also refrained from installing new drivers, since this will introduce sound lag, which is a no go in competitive FPS games (there are lots of threads around this)
The biggest drawback is that the microphone is a big step down from my previous setup. My co-players immediately noticed that my comms are much poorer. So overall a mixed bag, I will hang on to it for the wireless freedom, but will look for better sound and especially mic quality for my next purchase
They have a nice long battery life which is very nice as someone who spends a lot of time on my computer.
Don’t find myself constantly looking at the battery level as it also says when you’re turning it on which then helps you judge whether you will need to put them on charge when you’re done for the day.
Would recommend 🙂
I’ve always been a fan of the hyperx brand because of the great cushioning, and these headphones have them! Overall they are great headphones with good audio, insane battery life of 300 hours per charge, and a decent mic. I just do not recommend getting them if they are not on a discount.
Ok this headphones is some new level. I have recently switched from Logitech and it was the best decision ever. Microphone is very average but sound quality of headset itself is brilliant so it compensate the microphone. Can’t say anything about battery yet but out of the box it had 40% and after 6h of constant using it still had 35% (volume half way up).
Basically if you’re looking for great sound quality, get it but if it is about microphone, consider something else.
I’ve been buying computer peripherals for a long time now and have traditionally shunned wireless gear, when this kind of tech first emerged in the late 90’s it was pretty rubbish. These are a bit of a revelation though. When you first place them on your head you can feel the quality of the materials, the sound is amazing. I did have some problems initially with the software but found that running the Ngenuity application, unplugging then plugging in the adaptor then made the headphones appear. The immersive sound is excellent – I’m into Rust at the moment and being able to locate sound is an absolute must in that game and these headphones deliver.
I initially charged the headphones to 100% about 4 weeks ago, I play for around 6-8 hours per evening AND THEY’RE STILL ONLY AT 70%! Absolutely astounding.
Metal framed so you’re not going to get a busted headband by normal use (had this on Turtle Beach in the past) if you’re thinking about it and unsure whether you want to click the buy button, do it – they’re amazing value.
The only criticism I might have is the timeout of the headphones which is around 15 or 20 mins without sound, sometimes I go and browse the news or other webpages and they auto turn off – which I’d prefer they didn’t – other than that little niggle, brilliant.
So I’ve used this headset now for 10 weeks at roughly 12 hours of use a week and the battery is still saying 40% when it started at 70% out of the box. The battery life on this headset is incredible. I was initially a little concerned about replacing my wired headset as I didn’t want the battery to die mid-gaming session – but I have total confidence with this never being a problem and I’m completely converted.
To get that battery life you obviously have to sacrifice a few things, so it doesn’t have active noise cancellation – however its decent enough and I don’t feel I miss out. Sound quality is good and I’m told the microphone is as well.
Initially I found them not the most comfortable to wear with my glasses, but after an adjustment period I can now happily wear them for a 3-4 hour stint.
So overall, to say I got these on offer in the run up to Christmas at 97, I think they’re incredible value for money and if you can find them at a discount – highly recommend them.
This headset is a comfortable wear for several hour periods, and has a good baseline sound quality. When in the immediate vicinity of the source PC there is no observable latency or sound distortion, though if moving to another room there is an understandable drop off of quality – mostly as signal interference crackles.
Set up for basic functionality was plug-and-play, but a software error meant installation of additional drivers and functionality (particularly for DTS) took some different approaches and a workaround. Google suggests I am not the only person to experience this issue on PC.
Noise cancelation is decent for normal household background noise.
Pros:
– Killer battery life
– Comfortable
– Solid sound quality
– DTS
– Works with PC / PlayStation console
Cons
– A tad pricey
– Not the best microphone
– Not as versatile
– Software buggy
– Doesn’t work with Xbox console
I just purchased the HyperX Cloud Alpha wireless headset from black Friday sale. I feel I need to leave a detailed review so people can get a better understanding on these headset.
Be aware! Amazon made a mistake in “details” on the product, states 2 years licence only for the DTS, this is false, it is lifetime (contacted HyperX to confirm).
Due to being visually impaired, when I first used the headset I struggled defining the difference between the left and right earcup, I would recommend braille or another way to determine the difference.
Battery
The main selling point of the Cloud Alpha Wireless is its killer battery life with 300 hours on a single charge. While using the headset it lasted me two days without having to re-charge the battery, even when playing games all day.
Comfort, design, and build quality
While superb battery life alone doesn’t make a great headset, and those using headset during a long gaming session will agree that comfort might be even more important. Over the past years I’ve tested many headphones that felt great at first then after a few hours of use, the discomfort beings. These headset is so comfortable but not the lightest on the market, however, you can get cooling gel earpad options.
I would recommend purchasing extra pads with cooling-gel, this is to make the headset more comfortable if you don’t like breathable leather or sweat a lot.
Design-wise, is exactly, the same feel to the wired version, although it’s slightly larger, but, the new wireless model doesn’t fold and the earcups cannot be turned.
The build quality of the headset is what users can expect from HyperX cloud series, solid build headset with durable and reliable materials, with easy to adjust fitting for your liking.
Sound performance
Majority of HyperX headsets, sound quality is pretty great, offering a varied soundscape with plenty of separation, especially when used in games. Unfortunately again, the bass appears to be slightly boosted sometimes, but the lowers don’t drown out the less distant sounds. Sound isolation is excellent as expected on the product.
Sound customization options through the HyperX NGenuity software are decent enough, including EQ presents and a DTS Spatial sound feature, be WARNED this doesn’t carry over for PlayStation players and compared to the software of some other brands.
The only issue I occurred while using these headsets is the DTS sometimes not working and the headset cutting out every time I launch a new game or alt-tab out of the game, however, this could be down to Call Of Duty Warzone.
Closing thoughts
I would recommend this headset to gamers out there, especially if want a good immersion into the games.
Love the headset it’s almost perfect, it’s just got a few flaws, I upgraded from a corsair virtuoso I’m unsure how good the mic is as I use a wave 3 as my mic, but the headset is good very easy to hear the directions enemies are coming from in game not having to charge it for weeks is absolutely amazing the 2 issues I have is, the sound quality seems slightly lacking compared to my virtuoso and if you wear glasses the headset does get sore on the ears after an hour or two
I had the original Alpha(with the cable) which was incredible. That headset was used by me for 2 years, then gave it to my brother(new earcups) who used it for a year and now I’ve given it to a friend(with new earcups) who’s “razer” headset died and he is still using it 2+ years. Back then I wanted a wireless headset and bought Cloud Flight(HyperX) and have been using it with no problems since(2+ years), but the batteries are not holding a charge and was thinking of buying new batteries but then I saw the OG Alpha, wireless, with 300hour battery?!?!? On discount for the same price as a Cloud Flight?!?! Instant purchase!
Happy to say the headset is amazing. I see people reporting the bass is not strong enough, I had the other side of the experience. The bass for me is too strong so I have it playing on balanced preset and it sound exactly like my Cloud Flight which I love.
Comfort wise, it was a bit too tight on my melon but got around it by bending it just so it opens up by a centimeter which was enough and the clamping pressure is now perfect. I also had very good earcups which I’ve taken off my Cloud Flight and onto the the Alpha and it’s a dream headset now. Original earcups are decent. I’m still on the battery charge that came out of the box. Came with 50% and now it’s 40% after a week of use(about 20 hours). Witchcraft! Total volume is around 80% of the Cloud Flight but that was unusable after like 70% so a corner cut for which I have no issues. I usually keep it at around 30-40% volume.
Ratings for previous headsets:
OG Cabled Alpha – 4 stars
Cloud Flight – 4 stars
New Wireless Alpha(300h) – 4.5 stars
Highly recommend this headset,.the sound quality is brilliant and battery life is long lasting, I haven’t recharged it in well over a week. And still indicating over 100% despite using it most evenings.
It’s extra easy to set up on PC, I’m unsure on console.
My previous headset was a steel series arctice pro and I would argue that the Hyper X is significantly better and cheaper.
**Update**
My previous statement still stands however.
The Battery life despite being long, the product deliberately misleads you as to how much battery charge it has.
The moment you switch it on the there is a voice message saying battery 100% and it is not the case.
It had been a while since I’d last charged the headset but it died within minutes of it telling me it was fully charged.
It’s 300 hour battery life is a lie . Even the product itself is deliberately manufactured to lie to you
So black and red are my favourite colours, so the lack of available colours wasn’t an issue for me but may be for you.
That being said, HyperX must be into some weird black magic because these things keep on going and going. I use these a lot, at first I thought the sensor must be dodgy, I was at 70% for a week and a half, (70% is what they turned up with) then it suddenly said 60% the next day…
Not only does the battery keep on going, they also charge really fast, I got them down to 50% and thought I’m not using them for a couple of hours, I’ll add a little charge to them as I hate it when wireless stuff dies when you need it most. They were fully charged… So fast charge slow drain, HOW?
As for the quality, they do struggle a bit with bass, so don’t be pumping up the volume on anything with a lot of bass or it will just distort, a bit like older speakers. That being said, I’ve listened to a fair bit of music, played lots of games and watching TV & Films without any issue.
As for the fit, if you have bigger ears they can like most headphones annoy you a bit after a while but other than that they are extremely comfortable, no pressure on the head/ears and encase your ears in cushiony goodness, though as these are wireless I will add that when listening to things and wandering about the place, be aware that your external hearing will be drowned out.
Wirelessly, I’ve had no issue with connection or range, but I’ve not been able to do a good test on range as I live in a pretty small place. Though I was able to lay in bed listening to something when I didn’t feel well, and my phone often struggles to maintain a good connection with the router, so the wireless signal from these are definitely better than my router.
I have hunted for a long long time for a good wireless headset, I have tried all the different brands and different price points and all of them ended up going back and I stuck with my wired headset because of the horrid white noise.
All the manufacturers have it, dont know why but they do and you cant get rid of it, despite many hours with many support tickets and working with people on forums etc, there are many many posts showing the same issues with all sorts of brands.
Not so with this headset, its silent as the grave when there is no sound coming out of them and the quality of the sound when its being used is nothing short of amazing, I love this headset, its reasonably light, very comfortable to wear and the battery life is outstanding, I bought these some time ago now and I have literally just charged them for the first time (around 4 hours usage a day, heavier on weekends) they lasted around 2 months from purchase date before needing a charge which is astounding.
Really good quality product, the software works really well for setting up the equaliser and sound options and keeping the drivers and firmware up to date, the microphone is really good and the noise cancelling is fantastic as well.
An all around fantastic product, great value at whatever price you pay for it, I have paid twice the price of these headphones and ended up with a lower quality product, I cant say enough good things about them, very very impressive all round.
I bought this headset when it was listed for only 75 instead of 189.00. So I didn’t hesitate for a second and went for it. Overall, I am very satisfied. I use it to play video games, mainly CS:GO or Forza Horizon 5, and listen to some music on Spotify. The operation is very simple, just plug the USB dongle into a USB port on your computer, turn on the headset and the connection between the two is made instantly. Very simple.
The headset is quite comfortable (not as comfortable as my Bose QC35 II though) and remains pleasant even during sessions of several hours of play. The audio quality is good, although not as good as my QC35 either. It is the monstrous autonomy of this headset that differentiates it from all others. The manufacturer announces a battery life of 300 hours. When I received it, it was 90% charged. Believe it or not, I’ve been using it almost every day for more than three weeks now and it is still at 90%. I can hardly believe it myself. There is also a removable microphone included with the headset. The quality is pretty good, enough to talk to your teammates in game, but not enough for professional uses (which is normal).
In conclusion, the headset is average in terms of audio quality, average in terms of comfort and excellent in terms of autonomy. For the price I paid for it, I am very happy. However, I find the original price a bit steep. I don’t think I would recommend it at the price of 189. Anyway, it remains a good headset for gaming.
