Pros:
* fit as expected
* good value for money
* comfortable and lightweigh
These are comfortable enough when doing casual walks over urban or light terrain
I would say these are more water resistant and ok for wet grass. The tread isn’t too deep so I would say these aren’t great for extra long hikes
The fit is a bit narrow so you may want to try a size up
I am a serious walker (c. 2000 miles a year), mostly wearing Scapa boots for that, but also North Face ‘Hedgehogs’ as a ‘city weight’ walking shoe for pavements and general wear up to the point where the Scapa boots really are required. I was expecting to be critical of these, but look, five stars!
Very much cheaper than either of my two stand-bys, in design and functionality these fall somewhere between the two. They have a semi-rigid sole with a pattern not unlike a Vibram sole — so good on mud and non-horizontal bare rock — and offer more ankle support than Hedgehogs, if not quite as much as a Scapa boot.
I have had mine for four weeks, so they are still fairly new and this must be very much an interim review. They haven’t so far begun to show any kind of wear — just some slight creasing of the upper where my foot bends as I walk (behind the toes — at the bottom of the lace-up part of the shoe).
At winter temperatures, they are warm and comfortable — and I only ever wear just one pair of ordinary socks, nothing thick or woolly.
It may be that, not having any Gore-Tex content, come the summer the shoes will produce a sweatier, smellier sock than either the Scapas or the Hedgehogs.
For the longer-term, my greatest doubts are about the upper, which of course is neither leather nor Gore-Tex. What is it? Some sort of synthetic fabric. As new, it resists wet grass happily enough, and mud can be scrubbed off it. How it will get on in the long term — after it has lost its ‘newness’ — remains to be seen.
But my recommendation is that these should be bought if you need walking boots for a particular trip or project and aren’t sure how much you will need them after that is over. They offer excellent value for that, and your feet will be kept safe, dry and comfortable.
I don’t usually wear boots too often, especially when going on long walks. They can be heavy and dig into the back of my ankle.
These are much better and i’ve really started to rethink what i wear.
They look great, comfortable and most importantly lightweight.
These sit lower at the back of my foot too so don’t dig in like regular boots.
The quality of these are great and would absolutely recommend.
This pair of boots is acutally quite nice. They are rather lightweight. I would describe them as in between trainers and boots as the weight is pretty light. I quite like it as it is a lot comfortable to wear. However, it is slightly tight on my feet. I am size 12 and I got size 12… it is probably not a wide fit… I have to give to my friend who is a size 11. They fit on him perfectly. So if you have a wide size 12, I would suggest you get on size up than your normal size. They are good quality, made to last, just make sure you get the right size.
Good boots, really strong. I hadn’t heard of Jack Walker before, and I’m impressed with the quality. The price is decent considering ones of a different brand but similar quality, are almost double.
The sole is solid and perfect for hiking, and the stitching holds. It’s. A very secure boot that can be a little difficult to get on, but provides ample protection. So far, they have been dirt and waterproof. They don’t have a high arch or angle to get your foot in, which has been helpful for wider and flatter feet.
Overall, very impressed and would recommend, if you’re looking for walking or hiking boots – or even strong boots as workwear.
Nice looking boots and very comfy and lightweight, im using them every day in this winter days and they are comfortable, waterproof and they really feel good . Nice design and they look smart.

Recommended.
Light, comfy and decent grip.
The look is OK, simple and easily be the shoes for daily use.
The lightweight making it great for walking.
The waterproof and grip are just nice for the wintry weather.
Could improve a bit more on the grip.
A size up also good for the thick socks and memory foam sole ( not included ).
Price is reasonable at 50, in line with the similar range.
I normally get a size 7 in shoes and boots because I like that bit extra room. The size 7 in these boots just fit me, with not any spare room, so I would say order up a size if you buy them. The boots are very comfortable, I like the insole very much. The cuff on the ankle is well padded and protective to knocks, another plus.
I walk a lot, but more through the streets, town, parks, woods and country lanes, not the big hills in the countryside. I found these were very adequate for my needs. The boots are a reasonable grip on frosty areas, like on grass and paths.
The boots cleaned up well.
They’re comfortable and warm, and have been fine in recent icy pavement conditions. So as winter boots they do a decent job. Hiking? Not so much. The tread didn’t do a great job on slippery uphill conditions and were positively scary on the way back down. I’m happy to keep them as everyday winter boots but the “Made for all Weathers and every Terrain” strapline is pushing it.
Really love the design, looking smart. Not heavy in weight, I don’t feel tired even full day walking. Soft and thick inner layer which is very comfortable and protective. Waterproof for shower rain. Thick bottom as well so I am away from the water and mud. Detachable shoe insoles so I can wash it regularly. Tight fit design so suggest to order bigger size. Overall, I am really happy with this Jack Walker hiking shoes.
I have wider than normal feet and on my second 4 mile walk with them the soles of my feet were beginning to hurt.
They seem to be generally pretty good and survived walking through icy puddles while keep my feet dry.
If you are serious about walking or climbing you may want to look for a little better.
I’m a female, size six so ordered these in a men’s size 5 and they are perfect. They are lightweight and great for long wet walks with my springer spaniel. Super comfy too and supportive. Great 5 stars
Got feet? Need to cover them?
These are Jack Walker Mens Walking Waterproof Boots Lightweight Vent Breathable Hiking Trekking Shoes JW2255
The static waterproof fabric lining of these lightweight, breathable walking and hiking boots could keep your feet dry for many hours.
Hard wearing with good grip in Icy conditions.
They are comfortable and warm, the design looks very nice and they look like they will last well so long as I’m not fell walking, for that, you’ll need something a bit tougher.
I recommend you buy a size bigger than you usually take, I always do this with boots as it helps especially when walking down hill, I didn’t heed my own advice in this instance and immediately regretted it. I wear quite thick socks for my fell walking and these were a little on the tight side.
I recommend these boots, not for hard craggy fell and mountain walking, but definitely for hiking, it may say they are made for all terrain, but I doubt these will endure a full year of punishment on the fells.
These are some of the ebst walking shoes I’ve ever got.
They are so comfortable you don’t know you are wearing them. Walking is great and feels great underfoot. Nice fit and not too tight or baggy. I got size 9 and happy I did. Amazing fit with room for quality socks.
The grip on them is amazing. Went out for a walk this morning in thick frost and not a skid anywhere.
For 49.99 at time of review you can’t go wrong with these walking shoes. I’d totally recommend them.
Gets 5-5. Super comfortable quality walking shoes.
The boots look great and are well made. They are as expected. Since I have narrow feet, I would wear oversized socks and they would still fit, but if you don’t, maybe a size up would be more comfortable because they have a narrow tongue of boot.
I live in Glasgow and pass dirt paths and swamps a lot. They’re lightweight and have a textured insole, but instead of a waterproof faux leather upper, it’s a breathable fabric that isn’t waterproof. For downpours, then these shoes are not completely waterproof.
I have worn these jack walker boots over a few days when walking the dog and found that so far they have proven waterproof in long wet grass. The tread is not particularly aggressive but seems to grip well enough. The fit and finish is excellent everything is neatly stitched and finished. I normally take a size 11 wide fitting in boots but ordered these in a size 12, I am glad I did because the boot is narrow and undersized, I could easily have fitted into a 13. Overall once broken in a bit these are comfy and comparable to more expensive brands I have tried.
please let me know if this was helpful.
Hubby has different sized feet with one foot 10.5 and the other 11. He said that these shoes are great looking and very good quality.
They are made of good quality and feel like branded shoes.
He said that they are on the tight site but really would recommend them to anybody.
Really good boots. Super comfortable and with fantastic grip. They tie up nicely and don’t feel like they’ll slip off. Nice insole that supports your feet too. Very pleased
The boots fit true to size and have a decent width, not wide fit but not tight.
The laces are 5 standard lace holes and a top hook, the tongue keeps the wet and cold out as it is wide enough to cover the opening no matter how widely you lace them up.
They have a goo, strong mid sole for strength and a nice spongy feel to the sole makes them very comfortable, even on long walks.
I wear these to walk the dog, we walk in all weathers and on all terrain and I have found them a good all round boot, they have kept my feet dry and warm in the rain and when I have walked through mud/puddles/long wet grass.
The grip on the sole is good and the boots and sole are easy to clean.
They are reasonably priced for a good quality boot and I am very pleased with them.
I really like these. I have had a few pairs of walking boots from different suppliers and last pair I bought were starting to hurry my toes. I had size 11 boots. I mentioned to the wife I needed a larger size and went for Jack Walker size 13 boot. They fit great. So if you are going to buy a pair maybe think of getting at least the next size up or even two sizes up incase you are wearing thick socks. These feel very robust and look and feel very well made.
These are pretty good, relatively inexpensive, walking boots. They are waterproof, although will require regular treatment to maintain that. They are far lighter than other walking boots, although that might reflect their robustness. Surprisingly they have leather uppers rather than the far more coming faux leather. They are also very comfortable to wear even from first use. The material is fairly soft and doesn’t rub. The sizing is exactly as expected.
In sum, good boots for the cost conscious. A good four stars.
