Brilliant and best little torch that I have ever purchased, bright / robust / excellent battery life you won’t be disappointed.
I needed a new torch for taking the dog out at night and this does the job perfectly. It’s very bright but can be dimmed by pushing the button a couple of times, even the lowest setting is still quite bright. It fits in the pocket easily and is very light. Only had it a couple of weeks so cannot comment on how long the battery lasts. Very happy with this purchase.
My husband has low vision so big help for him.
Bright, really bright with a stunning range and width of beam with a good spread of light over the beam. Three light levels, easy to use, good battery life along with a quality case, materials & build.
Although a little more than the cheaper imitations, it is easy to see why it’s worth paying the extra, still a reasonable price for a quality torch.
Fast delivery, no issues with delivery or supplier & I would happily recommend this torch to anyone. Cheers, Martin.
I bought 2 of these torches, having a couple of LED Lenser torches already. It’s perfect to put on your keys to illuminate a path or lock. I bought one for me and one for my elderly mum. She finds it easy to use, and the wrist strap provided helps her to keep hold of it.
Was to replace a 200+ torch that was stolen. Far surpasses that torch at a quarter of the price… does what it says on the tin…. lights up the darkness .. brilliant torch and quality too.
Really bright with low, med & high settings. Floodlight to spotlight settings in each mode. Perfect for dog walking as it’s bright and fits in the coat pocket. The only thing that would improve this is a rubber (or similar) grip handle so it is less slippy in the hand. All said, this is a truly remarkable torch!
If you are wanting a small, bright and light torch. Then this would make a ideal purchase. And as a bonus you can extend the guarantee for free. Cannot go wrong with this one!
Superb light beam. Nice light weight to put in a shirt or jacket pocket. Great for workmen wanting to carry a small torch to see into dark spaces. Also great for dog walks.
Nowhere near the brightness expected. Too soon to judge battery life. Not what I would call lightweight, but a sturdy torch
Pretty impressive beam, focuses nicely, could maybe hold charge a bit better but great for wildlife spotting. Lights up a serious distance.
Brightness works when if suits goes dim while in use even with brand new Duracell batteries don’t waste your money buying this useless torch. I have tried contacting the supplier and no joy
This is my second Ledlenser torch. As a professional pilot I need a really good quality torch for walkround inspections at night, and the Ledlenser is superb. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for – and this product is well worth paying for. Couln not recommend it more highly.
3 settings are handy and makes a big difference to battery life
Great torch, great quality. Had one for 5 years until I dropped it and broke ‘bulb’. It is now 3 times the price it was then. Anyway, works a treat and if I don’t foul up I’m sure I’ll have this one for years also :_
Required a torch for work so I can inspect components in low lit areas. I have bought LED Lenser before so thought I’d try the cheapest torch they offer. Works perfectly and battery is rechargeable. Light is more than bright enough for what I need and the lens can be altered to zoom in if required. Given the cheap price I’d definitely buy again if needed. Battery lasted pretty much constant use for 2, 5 day shifts. No negatives
Fantastic product, as always from LED Lenser. Bright, light, good range on the battery life for a single AAA battery. Good for home inspection, dog walking or just getting to the car at night. A torch is always a great deterrent for all situations.
The highest levels of brightness are very good indeed and the speedy and smooth focusing ring is first class. Having owned a previous P7 version and a nearly identical T7 of that era, there are two minor issues:
firstly, the knurling grip on the new product is too smooth and offers no roughness to hold on to, especially when your hands are cold. The second issue is that the previous versions required only a single click to cycle through the brightness levels, this new one requires a double click to ‘downshift’ the brightness, so it’s a bit slower. Combining these two downgrades (in my opinion) reduces the overall utility of the torch by one star.
Can’t speak to battery life yet.
Great product and manufacturer, bought this aluminium P7 to replace an old and cracked ‘plastic’ L7, with which I have had many years of service, but didn’t like being dropped on a hard floor! I use the torch frequently when I’m at work
A brilliant little torch, more powerful than its size lets on. The beam is long distance when focussed and it brightens up small spaces with ease when zoomed out. Recommended if you can pick it up for cheap. The batteries don’t last long sadly.
Have bought 4 but 2 were broken so a good torch but with a high failure rate
I was looking for a sturdy metal, variable brightness torch. I walk about an hour a day, often at night and this torch really delivers except for one thing – the lanyard is attached to the torch by a very small thread that quickly broke, and on repair (tying the two strands together) broke again, resulting in the torch dropping from my hand and hitting the ground and now have a small mark in it’s beautiful black finish.
Love the torch, but now need to figure out a better lanyard connection to offset this design flaw.
Had this torch for literally just over a year. It has good brightness and really helps when out walking the dog to avoid most things you would not want your dog to eat! However, my only criticism is be prepared for the cost of replacing expensive D batteries more often than you would expect. My old torch would go for nearly six months of early morning and late evening walks without losing good light output. With this torch I am only getting about 2 months of use before the light output is too low to make it useful. Expensive to use but strong feel and good light output deserves 4 stars.
I’ve had my P7 for over three years now with no issues whatsoever. As for the flimsy plastic battery holder, I don’t particularly like it either, but my advice is – don’t drop it!!! (I deducted a star for this issue)
To ease access to the battery compartment, give the screw threads a greasing with some Vaseline and it will be fine. Remember that it should be a tight fit to help prevent water ingress. I use Vaseline on my MAG-Light threads too, with no ill effect.
So this is the third flashlight in the QC range from Led Lenser.
Overall it is a great upgrade from the P7 QC. It now uses LedLensers patented focus system, for a much nicer and more even beam pattern. The multicolour selector is as useful as ever for those that need to read maps at night, avoid disturbing animals, and so on.
I like the standard micro-USB charging port, over LedLenser Magnetic charging system. So that’s good too.
What I don’t like is the defence strobe which illuminates a purplish color. Standard white or selectable would have been preferred.
Also the fact that unlike previous models, it doesn’t come with case was disappointing.
It should be noted that this model is not compatible with the rigid belt holster, used by the previous P7 series.
I bought this torch for my 7yr old son so he had a durable and bright torch for going on an evening walk with me. It’s perfect for him, lightweight, durable and bright (without blinding you!). It’s a little more expensive than the cheaper brands, but it really feels durable and high quality and the pocket clip and case are nice accessories. It won’t light up an entire forest on a dark night, but that’s not what you buy a tiny pocket torch for. But perfect for a walk down a dark alley, finding something in the shed, changing a tyre on a bike ride etc etc. Highly recommended.
Having already been a fan of Ledlenser P14 torches, I was looking for a USB rechargeable version for my motorhome. This torch is significantly smaller; though certainly not tiny, it it just about pocket-sized.
Comparing quoted stats for P7R to the P14 on the Ledlenser website made me slightly wary, having grown accustomed to enjoying the privilege of carrying a portable sun with me. However I needn’t have worried.
Rather incredibly, the P7R is every bit as bright as the P14, still with excellent battery life. It comes with a USB-powered wall-mounted floating (magnetic) charging base, so charging and removing the torch is a doddle.
The larger P14 has three brightness modes (‘FULL’, ‘DIM’ and if you hold the power button ‘SUPER’)
The P7R has only two power modes (‘FULL’ and ‘DIM’) but the ‘FULL’ power is as bright as the P14 is on ‘SUPER’!
One-handed focus means you can flood the area with light or pick out details hundreds of meters away (seems the same range as the P14)
The battery is included, but is replaceable meaning that – given the incredible durability of these torches – as long as you don’t lose it, you could probably enjoy your new portable sun for decades, replacing batteries every few years if necessary. It even comes with a wrist strap and pouch with belt loop, presented in excellent Ledlenser fashion.
This is essentially how I always wanted LED torches to be, it seems like now they’ve finally caught up with my wish list. Highly recommended and definitely worth every penny.
I bought this to go on evening walks in places where there is no street lighting. I already had a P7.2 but as this P14 was on offer I thought I’d have one for the toolbox and one for going walking. Brightness is impressive! The boost would be rarely needed but is ridiculously bright and just fun to see how far away you can shine a beam on to the trees! The normal high setting is a little brighter than the P7.2, and the low economy setting about the same. I tend to use on the high setting. But this P14 really excels at battery life. AAs are the same price as AAAs in just about every brand, but the AA has over double the capacity. Hence testing after 4 months for this review it took a comparison with the old p7.2 with brand new batteries and old batteries to show the brightness had gone down just a little. In summary this P14 may not be the smallest but if you’re happy with the size you will reap the rewards of its long battery life.
This is a quality torch, very sturdy and strong, and for one AAA battery produces a good amount of light. Being able to change the focus with a slider is fantastic for walks on a dark night, either spread out the light for a wider view of the ground, or if you want to see ahead, narrow the beam, this will shine a focussed beam quite a distance for such a short torch. The slider is both easy to move but also does not move in normal use. It’s a good size torch for a pocket, and comes with a wrist strap, keyring loop, a pocket clip and a belt holster, so covers pretty much every storage you would ever want. I clip mine to my coat pocket, then use the wrist strap when out for a walk, although it’s got a good grip, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
I have but one complaint, there are no instructions for fitting the pocket clip, and it is very tight. Thanks to Amazon question and answers, the best (only) technique I found to work was to remove the battery cover then slide the clip on the end whilst pulling the clip apart slightly to open the gap. That technique worked, but it took a while to find, and although the paint is strong and thick, I did make a very small scratch in my earlier attempts to clip it on, had their been instructions, It would have been easy. Fortunately the clip covers my mistake, so not a disaster. I did consider dropping a star for that lack of instruction, however that seems harsh for such a good product. If there was a way to rate 4.75, that would be fairer, so I left it at 5*.
Maybe I’ll post a video for that fitting, it would have helped me for sure.
If you are looking for a good quality, solid and small torch for walking, small jobs and emergencies, this would definitely be my recommendation.
Enjoy.
Bought this Ledlenser 501046 P7 Professional LED Torch to replace some unbranded ones that I had used for Caching but eventually they all all failed to work. I already have a Ledlenser rechargeable head torch which was ultra bright and very reliable.
When I received the P7, I was very impressed by the presentation box it came in and that it had a useful carry case for attaching to your belt. The P7 has a satisfying weight to it, being manufactured from a quality metal and feels very comfortable in the hand.
When I inserted the batteries and switched it on, I couldn’t believe how bright it was and how far the beam reached. It has a beautifully smooth zoom from flood to distant illumination.
I am a bit of a torch nerd and have had a collection of cheap torches over the years but none can compete with the P7. It’s not cheap but as they say, you get what you pay for, and in this case, you get a lot.
Thoroughly recommended.
This is a little pricey but will save you money in the long run.
It’s small but durable and solidly made. The magnetic charging dock could have been better thought out IMO as the torch can slip out with the slightest knock.
Thankfully you can charge the battery with a suitable external charger should you have one.
The carry pouch is also of good quality with a strong velcro strap you can hook around your belt.
Overall this is a great handy little torch but a little expensive.
I use this torch when i walk the dog at night. The charging point is plugged into a multi point charger from which we charge our phones ipads kindle. So whenever a device is being charged the torch is topped up as well. The torch battery has never gone flat. Hopefully this charging regime will not cause a battery problem over the long term. I have only had this torch for a few months so cant really comment on longevity. I had a maglite torch before which failed after about 18 months, the replacement lasted a similar amount of time. Hopefully the ledlenser will outlive them. As things stand I am very happy withe torch.
I made the mistake of previously buying a cheap Chinese copy torch with a fake cree chip before buying this – what a difference in light, and quality. OK you pay more for the real thing, and many people can’t even tell the difference – until you see the light beams side by side – but this torch is fabulous. Clear, bright light with no quare shadow in the middle of the beam, very easy to recharge, classic design and sturdy. My only niggle is the on-off button at the end – if you’ve got longish fingernails, it’s hard to operate and is badly designed as you have to press it a way in and this can’t be don’t with long nails. The engineers/designers were obviously men!
This review is about the quad colour version of Ledlenser’s P7 range, the P7QC. I bought this because it comes with a multi-colour LED and you can select the colour of the light by twisting the torch head. This is useful for astronomy because your eyes are less sensitive to red light and this is important in maintaining your night vision while gazing at the night sky. The main switch is large and nice to operate (even with gloves on) and enables you to select between high power, low power and strobe function. Note that because you twist this head to select the colour, this Ledlenser doesn’t have the beam focussing function that other Ledlenser torches provide. The quality is top notch, and it feels nice in the hand. This particular model also works great with NiMH rechargeable AAA batteries which is what I use all the time now. I’d give this a 5-star rating if it was a little cheaper.
We wanted a torch that gave us various brightness settings, was water-resistant during very harsh weather, had an overall very bright light power setting when needed, and one that lasted a long time – even on full power.
This torch did it all.
We use torches for two main reasons.
One is when we are outdoors on what we call mini expeditions day and night in remote places with our dog.
The other is when we perform professional paranormal investigations can last all night ‘from dusk ’til dawn’ (no pun intended) which usually take place in very remote and dark locations.
This means that we needed a reliable torch and the much cheaper Chinese-made options always seemed like good value at first BUT invariably so many of them have failed us now that we decided to buy a LED Lenser each.
We are very glad that we did.
This is an excellent torch, a perfect compact size and a very bright light output when needed.
Also, it is VERY well made and should last us a long time even with very regular and prolonged use.
The carrying pouch and wrist lanyard are also high quality and the right size, even when using gloves.
A TIP. Use high-capacity1100 mah rechargeable AAA batteries to get the best performance time from this torch.
These batteries easily more than double, and sometimes triple the advertised maximum burn time on full beam.
Highly recommended.
Really high quality item. The packaging, accessories and torch all have a premium feel to them.
I was a little fed up of buying cheap LED torches that break within months, and lose power quickly. As with most items I buy, I decided to do some research and purchase a long-term item.
LedLenser was frequently mentioned in reviews as one of the best brands in UK. I liked the look of their range, and website and so decided this was the brand for me!
As for the model, there were quite a few to choose from! I opted for the P7R as it was incredibly well reviewed, and also quite compact. I bought this item on offer at 57, which I feel offered good value. My advice would be to buy at a similar price rather than buying lower spec models like the P7 (also a decent torch)
Inside the box you get a wall-mount for the torch which is a nice touch. This can be linked to the charger, which is magnetic, so you always know where your torch is and that it’ll be charged fully! The magnetic hold from the charger feels nice and strong, and secures the torch nicely. If i had a criticism of the P7R it’d be in this area. The cables supplied only support USB charging – so you’d need to wall mount near a USB socket, or use some form of adaptor (which I always worry about doing due to voltages).
The torch itself is great, feels like a solid metal construction, but the weight is fair. I’d say less than 250g. I have medium sized (male) hands and this fits nicely. The 1000 lumens stated is hard to test but I can confirm it has a great brightness, and when using the focus feature on the torch (basically push the top of torch forward with your fingers to focus the beam angles) the reach of this is substantial, bright and satisfying. So much so that after walking back from pub with my Uncle and a friend I found they’d both purchased the same item the next day because it was so much better than what they were used to.
Like most Li-ion driven items the battery lasts ages with moderate usage, the P7R uses 1x rechargeable 18650 battery, this also has IPX4 protection – which should guard it from damage in the rain.
The torch has 3x power modes low, mid and “power” – it’ll also automatically set to a low beam if battery is very low, just enough light to get you home in the dark!!
The package also includes a wrist-strap, 3M stickies for wall mounting and a torch pouch so you could attach this to your belt. All fitter into a nice, quality Ledlenser box.
All in all a very solid buy. If you can get it on sale like I did, I think it offers good value. This is backed up by their (Ledlenser) 7 year guarantee on this item. (I think is 5 years if you don’t register). That timeframe should buy you some assurances that spending the extra cash on a quality item is worth the cash outlay long-term (I used to just buy new LED cheapo torches and throw away when inevitably broke – incredibly wasteful). 5*’s from me.
I’ve used this torch daily for months now and highly recommend it. The brightest mode is fantastic, I would say it’s effective to around 150m on a full charge. The one-handed zoom from flood to long-range is really easy to use and useful in dynamic situations or just to avoid blinding people. The build quality is good: I’ve dropped it onto tarmac a couple of times which it has survived with no problems. The pouch seems sturdy, I carry it on my belt and find it easy to draw the torch quickly one-handed and put it away without looking. The pouch has never come off accidentally, thanks to the double-locking button/velcro combo.
Only 4 stars for “lightweight” because with 4xAAA batteries and an all-metal construction it’s not really a lightweight torch, although it is very comfortable in the hand – it’s a heavy duty, solid, reliable torch for anyone who is serious about seeing a long way in the dark.
I wanted a torch that was rechargeable, read some reviews and stumbled across this one. Reasonable price, love the magnetic charge lead, and I also like the fact you can adjust the beam by sliding the head of the torch forwards and backwards. Once you find the beam you like you can lock it by twisting the head to the side, my particular torch doesn’t fully lock it. It just stiffens it a little bit u can still move it. I can live with that. My only problem is, is that the purchase of this torch has given me an unexpected torch addiction and now I find myself buying more torches that are a hell of a lot more money than this one!!! So I kinda wish I hadn’t bought this but if there’s ever a power cut I’m gonna be ok haha.
I have to admit, Im a little disappointed with the P7 2018 (450 lumen).
The holster for a start is a very odd design which when attached to a belt actually requires 2 hands inorder to “quickdraw”.
The LED is somewhat underpowered in my opinion in terms of brightness. I have a few other LED/CREE flashlights which run of AAA batteries or Lithium 18650 batteries.
Sadly the LEDLenser P7 does not come anywhere near close to the brightness of ALL my other flashlights.
I am tempted to return to Amazon and buy a brighter Lenser…… I know LedLenser say that its not all about the Lumens……. Unfortunately when it comes to needing brightness LUMENS ARE EVERYTHING!
I wish I did a bit more research on LedLenser LEDs as they are more onto a COB style rather than a single Diode.
Ignore any negative reviews, this torch is awesome – probably very similar to a car headlight in your hand, but even better because of the perfect light distribution. It is also very well made and comes with a 7 year Manufacturer’s warranty. Before buying this my best torch was a large LED Maglite – approx 27cm in length and 675g with 2 x D cell batteries. Admittedly the LED Maglite is a number of years old and is probably best decribed as a first generation LED torch. This LEDLENSER weighs in at 800g with 3 x D cell batteries and is around 31cm long. It totally blows my large LED Maglite out of the water. LED torch technology has improved massively in recent years! Unlike my Maglite which just has a reflector, the P17 LEDLENSER also has a lens which distributes the powerful light very evenly You will not be disappointed if you buy one. Despite the fantastic light output it is also highly efficient and has an impressive battery life. As far as I am aware (and contrary to what you might assume) the P17 is a later and more powerful version of the P17.2 and the P17 is currently selling for LESS than the P17.2 on Amazon. If you want a good quality powerful torch without getting a mortgage – buy one!!
Bought this as an upgrade from my P17.2 (450 lumens) which I’ve had for over two years now, and I can say it’s a welcome improvement in the lumen output! The noticeable differences when comparing the two are the flood lighting on my older P17.2 is actually wider, close to a meter or so wider in fact, (this is due to the lens, P17.2 on the left in my photo) but the spot lighting when fully zoomed is where the newer P17 excels, it’s wider and a lot brighter which is the main reason I bought these torches, finding my pooch when she runs off in a big open field on a dark winters night! It’s water resistant for any heavy downpour, I’ve been out in a heavy downpour for at least an hour an a half with no issues, just make sure to wipe it off when you reach home!
It’s reassuringly heavy, at nearly 800g with the batteries inserted, but not too lumbersome for long walks, which makes me feel at ease when walking through dark woods at night knowing you’ve got something that could easily knock out those with bad intentions!
Very sturdy, only downside is the belt clip, very rigid plastic with little give so it will take the paint off if you use it, but I’ve never bothered with it! Dropped the torch many times, even on concrete and just the usual scuffs and scrapes but nothing which would effect the actual use of the torch, ignore Dr. Colin’s review!
As others have mentioned, the battery cap is screwed on incredibly tight when it first arrives, but I just used the soft foam packaging sheet it came with as some extra leverage and it came off easily, DONT USE MOLE GRIPS OR PLIERS!
All in all, well worth the price considering it’s less than what I paid for my original P17.2!
Maybe I’ve been quite harsh in knocking off a star, but couldn’t bring myself to leave five in view of the price. Build quality is excellent, and I’m sure the focusing mechanism is superior to others, but the performance experienced is not. The annoying image of the led can be focused out, and a bright hot spot obtained in the middle of the beam, which is a plus point for my photographic needs. However it’s only a central hot spot, and the surrounding illumination means I still can’t get the very small isolated dot of light I was hoping for.
It’s only fair to say that the above criticism is a very subjective thing, relating as it does to my very specific and probably unusual requirements, and most probably the vast majority of people wouldn’t have any issue with it. However, while the build quality is excellent, as one would expect from the brand, the light output isn’t that high compared to other similar torches, and it doesn’t have much by way of a range of functions. Furthermore, battery choice is linited to four AAA batteries, and you don’t appear to be able to use one whammy and rechargable 18650 as with so many other comparable torches.
Having put forward my observations, I’d summarise that if you want a high quality compact torch with just a basic specification, no flashing type tricks, AND you have deep pockets, this would a very good little torch for you.
This looks & feels like a good quality torch.
The wide to narrow beam adjustment is by way of a sliding (not rotating) lens, smooth operation. When at it’s widest the light is very even.
The lamp has two modes, high intensity / low intensity. Switching on & off and between modes is controlled by a single button-press switch at the opposite end to the lens.
It is supplied with batteries (4x AAA) and a wrist landyard.
Simple & effective.
Around the lens are a series of designed holes, these show a red light (at right angles to the main beam) , this gives an attractive look , but would also alert you to the torch being switched-on if placed lens-down on a flat surface.
Update Oct2020: The torch has had a very gentle life , with only occasional short use. Kept in a ‘safe’ environment, however, it failed to illuminate at all recently. Think it was time to change the batteries I removed the battery pack (takes a ‘nest’ of four batteries in a cylindrical holder) and found that the holder was broken in four places. I have no idea how this occurred. I checked the batteries on a meter, all had good charge. I was surprised and disappointed at the battery holder being badly broken (it is a ‘skeleton’ style holder with thin plastic struts). I checked the Ledlenser web site I saw the product had a five year warranty, following there warranty claim instructions I was impressed to receive a new battery pack and switch assembly by return of post. Good customer service but reduced to 4 stars due to the lack of resilience in the battery pack. I have other torches (Maglite) that are as serviceable today as they were when I bought them 30 years ago and they have not had a gentle life!
What a fantastic torch
After owning a different torch for many years which I thought was great torch turns out to completely rubbish compared to this bad boy. The light the ( led lenser p7 ) gives out is out of this world I was truly blow away how bright this bad boy was. It’s solidly made from great German aircraft aluminium it’s a game changer I’ve noticed people complaining about the screw cap for the battery compartment that why can’t get theirs undone but let me reassure you it’s only light because there is a rubber o-ring in place to stop it getting water into the battery compartment. The 7years warranty is fantastic had no problem registering the problem for the warranty. The back button is a easy 3 click button going from high/medium/low. The quick focus is truly well made just slide it to focus your beam or slide it to use it as a flood light. If your thinking about buying one of these p7 torch I would so recommend it. I’m gonna be buying another one for my dad as he loves mine.
I had one of these and foolishly left it behind in a hotel room. The replacement was a Led Lenser P7.2. The ‘non-leak’ Duracells leaked and the clever little multi-switch packed up. So I replaced it with this ‘standard’ P7 because it is claimed to be 450 lumens against the 350 lumens of the P7.2.
I also found a replacement battery/switch cartridge for the P7.2. The fact that such a thing is even available suggests that I am not the first to have had problems with the ‘clever little multi-switch’!
I will shortly run a comparison test for their relative brightness but the first thing I notice with the standard P7 is the sequence of settings with its multi-switch whereby it returns to the ‘OFF’ state in between each of the three brightness modes. In contrast, the P7.2 cycles through the three brightness modes before returning to ‘OFF’. This latter method is better.
The light output is good. No complaint there. It is what it is meant to do. However, getting the light output is a different matter: the switch is sloppy and too-long in its action.
It looks good, with smooth lines and a perfect surface finish. The materials appear to be of good quality.
Unfortunately, those smooth lines and slick finish make it not so secure in the hand.
The lack of grip on the body accentuates the problems with the action of the switch and makes it almost as annoying to operate as those cheap LED torches which have the flashing modes that no-one will use 99.99% of the time. (This one doesn’t have those modes.)
It only gets three stars from me because the light output is good – and I have nothing other than a 15 torch to compare it to. The user interface is really poor. I cannot recommend this torch at this price.
Edit: I contacted LED Lenser and they promptly sent me a replacement end cap (the switch part) which is definitely better than the original one, so it goes up to four stars.
