It took daughter 2 days to put together and get it to work.

Bought this as the little one likes construction vehicles.
Does require someone who is a bit older due to the harder to follow instructions when compared with the Lego City stuff.
The mechanical functions on this is quite unique, will give the little one plenty of playing time.

I’ve purchased this Lego for my son’s birthday. We had eyes on this one for about three months because of the price. Amazon Lego store has 40% sale on this Lego so we had to get it. My son turned 10 and he enjoys building it.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersExcellent and challenging model to build. Great fun to put together and looks incredible at the end.
Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Pieces are well made and snap together properly and reliably. You don’t need to worry about sections falling apart.
    A really great model.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’m not sure what i can say to be honest as well its Lego,

I have been playing with Lego well since a young child, i love the Technic sets as they encourage cognitive thinking, this set is aimed at 10 years plus which is about right. This set is LEGO 42144 Technic Material Handler Mechanical Model Crane Toy

This set is amazing and complex, the set comes in bags that need to be build in order if you want (i do) there are a good clear set of instructions. This LEGO Technic Material Handler model crane features manual and pneumatic functions for kids to learn how it works in real life (sshhh fun and learning don’t tell the kids lol )
The parts are well made to the normal Lego standard, as this is a technic set and contains parts that function like a real world, and to be honest works better than expected it turns well the legs move well.

All in all another amazing set from Lego highly recommended. PS your never to old to have fun building Lego i love spending time with my son building

    Awesome

You would think considering how long Lego has been at it that they would run out of ideas but nope they just keep delivering.

This is an incredibly fun build from the technic range which tends to be mostly rods and the like as opposed to your classic bricks. This however allows for much more mechanic and interactive builds which can prove to be very educational for older kids. This particular set also includes pneumatic functions which is particularly interesting.

The build itself was great fun taking just short of four hours in our case. As you expect from Lego the instruction are clear, concise and easy to follow. My only gripe being the need to apply stickers which I always feels detracts from a fun experience when you don’t get them on perfectly.

Once built it’s great fun to interact with and it’s super sturdy so can take a decent amount of bumping and bashing although maybe not the rigours of a clumsy 3 year old!

Overall great quality build. Maybe a bit steep at full price but definitely worth it at its current price of 79

My partner and I built this together. The box was large and looked awesome. It’d make a good gift.
As usual, the instructions for this LEGO were super clear and straight forward. We done this over the course of a couple of weeks, doing an hour here and there as we are quite busy. It was fun and a lot of fun. This would also be suitable for children to build on their own or for parents and children to do together.
The final product is quite a substantial size and looks really cool. A nice addition to our LEGO display shelf.

Great for fans of anything that is Lego Technic.
Lots of fun in assembling this.
As always great attention to detail and a high-quality finish.
Flexible, sturdy and strong where it needs to be when completed.
    Is fully functional when completed.
Comes with a range of spare back parts also.
Does look the part once assembled and appears to be of high quality.

I love Lego, and I love these kind of mechanical builds!
This was no exception, arriving in typical good quality packaging, a great box and a decent easy to follow set of instructions.
Also as expected all items are in different numbered bags that you follow along.
If its your first time with Lego then I’d suggest starting with something easier.

For someone into their Lego and is rather experienced, you will really love this build.
Looks fantastic on a shelf and also has playability with it too, should you wish to actually play with Lego after!

Like Lego? How about some serious technical stuff?

This is the LEGO 42144 Technic Material Handler Mechanical Model Crane Toy For Ages 10+, 835 Pcs, Measures 35.4 x 37.8 x 9.4cm And Weighing 1.4kg (That’s a lot of Lego!)

If you are tired of building the same old Lego sets and fancy more of a challenge / rewarding build, then this will give you a good few of hours work (just over four to be precise). Makes it longer if you got a toddler and over enthusiastic twelve year old in tow, but that’s half the fun isn’t it? Eventually you build wheeled crane bottom up in 246 steps of the instruction book, which include fitting pneumatic pipes to cylinders to action pulleys. It is all very clever, reminds me of CDT lessons at school! The attention to detail is so great, that there is even securing ground anchors to stabilise even the easiest (or hardest) of lifts.
You get a lot of stickers too, which can be quite fiddly (as fiddly as the actual build), so I warn you.
Disappointed that there was no Lego man included to sit in the cab!
When built it is great, solid, and unlike the cheaper sets, this doesn’t fall apart as easy. Most parts play an important function, so no room for fancy cladding or the likes! This would probably explain no Lego man…

For the price this set is expensive, and would be a main present at Xmas for most. But would someone want a crane? Hmmm. It is great fun, but I give it a few weeks and it’ll be broken down and just become another bit of Lego in the massive crate of bricks!

Overall this set is a challenging build, but very very rewarding. Recommended.

Fantastic technical crane, which can be a challenging build for youngsters

I have a son who was obsessed with lego as a child, then in his early teens grew out of it, and to his delight, then discovered the Technic range!! He’s built quite a few to date and loves them, this one has been a particular favourite and was extremely satisfying to build and see everything come together into a real working model. Instructions were faultless as ever!

Move over, bulldozers. This LEGO Technic Material Handler model crane features manual and pneumatic functions for kids to learn how this mighty vehicle works. Kids will love creating the dozens of detailed pieces, creating their own colourful LEGO A great gift for kids who love building sets, and a fun way to learn about construction vehicles & makes it a great set for the youngest builders to expand their ability in building with LEGO Technic.
This is my son’s first Lego Technic set and he absolutely love it. This LEGO Technic Material Handler has 835 pieces and it took him quiet few days to build. Even I love playing with this crane. Instructions are clear and easy to understand as usual. Overall a great set perfect for gifts and easy to build. At the time of review this product was available for 79.99

Aimed at age 10+, this is a most impressive mechanical model crane from Lego Technic. I see it’s presently down by 24% on Amazon from 104.99 to 79.99 – and very worth picking up at this price if you can. I know someone aged 70+ who’s into Lego Technic which seems to have very wide appeal.

The beauty of Lego Technic is that it can introduce young people – not just young boys – to engineering. The challenge is to follow the instructions successfully so you build the model right and it works as it should.

The rather exciting looking box here contains 835 pieces. Inside are all the bits required to construct a 4 wheeled material handler with grab. The great thing about this crane is that it has pneumatic functions – and the crane will rotate on its chassis. The grab will open and close and the boom will lower and rise.

For any young people who are interested in how things are put together and what makes them work this Technic Material Handler could be a springboard into a world of technology. But what is that? Knowledge stemming out of curiosity – that could stand us all in good stead throughout our lives.

I don’t have son but I got this set for myself, I love mechanical and detailed constructions. Instruction is mostly clear to understand and none of the pieces were missing. The crane is amazing, good size and the hydraulic parts are actually working. It’s not some flimsy construction like other Lego-alike sets available on the market. This one is a proper thing. It’s suitable for bigger children, ideally over 10y of age who has some understanding on constructions and fancy build something for themselves. After full assembly, this is a great looking toy which can involve also youngsters (but not the youngest due to small parts) to watch or take part on playing.
Personally, I’m very impressed how cleverly it’s been designed and with details shown on the instruction how to build it step by step. Yet, another fantastic Lego set that it’s literally smashing!
    Highly recommended.

This is another exceptional building set from Lego. I have two other expansion sets which were both superb however this has gone up another level.

The set arrived packaged well in a branded box and all the pieces are excellent durable quality and packed really well and securely inside.

My husband and son were so excited to build the crane and wasted no time in doing so. It took them a couple of days and they were over the moon with the end result especially our son who found the whole experience so rewarding. All the pieces and parts are intricate and beautifully detailed and the crane functions are second to none with its pneumatic and mechanical functions which works seamlessly.

Overall we cannot recommend this set enough. Absolutely brilliant and a fantastic gift for a child, young teens or anyone that loves to build things.

WOW — the attention to detail on this set is fantastic primarily aimed at those aged 10+. Those younger than 10 can take part however would involve some adult help due to the different components and the challenging aspects of it.

The set itself is so good and has become a quick favourite.

    Well recommended.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis is a fantastic Lego technic set, It’s got good details and the pneumatic system to operate the crane arm gives it great playability for kids and adults alike. It’s definitely a more teenager upwards build level and then anyone can play with it really. I like the look and design of the crane keeping it more like a Lego model with less technic parts on display like older ones which I think really makes the model look closer to the crane its modelled after.
The hoses are all cut to the right length which makes the build easier and apart from a couple of tricky little bits to work out the instructions are nice and clear.
Overall, it’s a great set but I just think the price needs to be under 100 to be good value for a just over 800 piece set.

great fun technic crane with pneumatic moveme

Absolutely fantastic Lego set. My eldest son will be over the moon to open this on his birthday! Same excellent quality as usual from the Lego brand. Unfortunately the box arrived a bit squished on the two bottom corners, which is a shame when you’re giving it to someone as a gift. All in all though, it’s a great product for older children, teens or adults and I would definitely recommend!

LEGO 42144 Technic Material Handler, Mechanical Model Crane Toy, with Manual and Pneumatic Functions, Educational, Construction Vehicle Building Set.

This arrived very well presented so it would make an ideal gift for the older child or even an adult.

Lego has been around as long as I can remember, when I was kids I played with Lego so very much, I just loved it!

My husband and our 10 year old grandson built this between them, it did take a couple of days but once built the grandson thought it was amazing as it has a Rotating arm, 4 outriggers and classic grapple…… Its now got him interested in engineering!

Our grandson, the husband and myself can highly reccomend.
The quality as you would expect from Lego is spot on, durable too and will last for years.

This is exactly as the description describes.
Yes it’s expensive but I really think its worth the money!

Lego have a long and excellent reputation, and their construction kits are always popular with young builders. Lego kits are amongst those rare gifts to children that are simultaneously educational and great fun. This set – a fully-working mechanical model crane – is certainly no exception. It features several functioning pneumatic components including a long rotating arm and claw. It’s a challenging yet doable project for a 10 year-old alone, or an 8/9 year-old with some adult help. Whilst working alone doubtless gives the young person the most rewarding sense of achievement, the benefits of some quality parent/child (or grandparent/grandchild) collaboration time should not be overlooked. Working on such a detailed functioning model can really help a young person better understand how full-sized mechanical vehicles work.

Another great set from Lego. Easy to build and fun to play with. It’s a good beginner set if you don’t like the more complicated Technic sets. Recommended.
