I’m amazed that Lego have managed to fit in as much detail and functionality into this set, which is an absolute bargain considering what you get.
It comes with a motor (which takes 6 AA batteries), and can rotate at slow or fast speed, so you can really see what’s going on.
What blew my mind was that the controls actually work like in a real helicopter to alter the pitch on the blades. To fit this into this size model, especially with gearing for a hoist and retractable landing gear is super impressive.
Yes it’s not the easiest build, but each step is well labelled.
The only downside with this set is that it has quite a few stickers, which are slightly annoying.
Overall though, and incredible build and great value.

I have built a number of Lego Technic large models and this was as complex as any. All the driving gear and gearboxes had to be just right. The were 2 small parts missing, well there were parts there that looked similar, but were incorrect. However, Lego corrected this rapidly and for free, so not an issue.
The completed Helicopter seems a little fragile, but it seems to hold together well and all the driven parts work well. A great Leko Model

Golden Review Award: 17 From Our UsersSo this model is pretty complex to construct. For now it’s unfinished because the motor isn’t able to turn the rear rotor blades, it’s jamming. I’m guessing I’ve done something wrong so I’m going to have to undo it all to find out what the issue is. Also the “screw” that raises and lows the wheels slips under the weight of the helicopter and only works if the copter is raised off the floor. I still gave it a five tho because part of the fun of these types of sets is the complexity of the build. My impatient 3yr old grand daughter keeps asking me when it’s ready because she wants to play with it. She loves playing with the space shuttle so I’m sure she’ll love the copter too when I’ve finally finished it!

Quick update, turns out the rotators had jammed because the power cable got caught in the gearbox. It needs to be clipped but I missed that bit. So all good. Peppa Pig was the first to try the helicopter when my grand daughter got hold of it.

    Tricky Constructio

An impressive project to build. It would take a lot of time and I still haven’t managed to finish it. Instructions are easy to follow and the pieces stick well together which is not surprising considering the brand we are talking about. It is quite expensive but full Lego enthusiasts it is really not that much considering you have a helicopter that works. Definitely a lot of fun for adults and kids together.
A bit fiddly to build as it has lots of small pieces. Still working on i

This is a fabulous set. My daughter has loved it – her first Lego technic set. Normally she creates sets at high speed, but this time it took several days. The creation is a brilliant size and she feels very proud of it.

This Lego Technic Airbus is incredibly detailed and is both an interesting and enjoyable set to build. It features a number of manual and motorised functions for your children to learn how basic engineering and mechanics work. Lego aim this kind of set at ages 11+, which feels a little young to me. Younger children would most likely struggle with some of the trickier portions of the build, particularly when it revolves around the motorised functionality. I would say an age range of 15+ would be more appropriate.

The set is visually very appealing and looks simply awesome (and significantly huge!) when fully built. It happens to be one of the larger of the ‘Technic’ theme sets within Lego’s immense line up, and will take you a fair amount of time and patience to put together. It’s by far the largest helicopter model Lego have produced to date. I showed my children the outer box one lazy Sunday afternoon and when I asked which one of them fancied helping me to build it, they all pretty much jumped up and ripped the box out of my hands – lol! So with that, I grabbed a coffee, some cokes and a pack of chocolate biscuits and the kids and I locked ourselves away in the dining room for the next few hours. Now, we are fairly adept and accomplished brick builders, but what we thought we could knock out in a good few hours ended up taking us hours upon hours over several sittings to put this beast together. I estimate a total around 14 – 15 hours (with a few biscuit breaks in between). I do think, with enough ‘free’ time, one person could easily construct this in just one, albeit rather long day, but be warned, the instruction manual is over 400 pages thick! With a total of 2001 pieces it can feel a little tedious and frustrating at times, particuarly as it’s hard to see the final product coming together until right near the end of the build. The kids lost interest fairly early on, so I ended up being able to shut myself away for the remainder of the build. I do find that tedious and frustrating build feeling to be the case with most of the larger Technic sets that I have built so far to be fair. Although I personally find it really rather interesting the kids do not. I think it’s because they cannot play with the sets as they build them. Certainly that was the case for my children.

The motorised functionality within this set is quite interesting and includes the main rotor and tail rotors as well as retractable landing gears. By far the best part of the motorised build, at least for me anyway, was the construction and final admiration for the spinning replica engine. It takes a fair while, and a lot of patience to construct this element but it’s strangely both mesmerising and fascinating to watch it in action. It doesn’t really do anything practical as such, I just happen to really like the build aspect of this. To get all these functions to work correctly a small motor is included. It uses a single AA battery to operate which is also provided for you. As well as the motorised functions there’re are numerous manual elements you can interact with which include front and rear cowling access. Let’s be honest though, this isn’t a build you are going to be giving to the kids to play with. Rather this is either going to be one of those builds that is completed and displayed somewhere or else built and dismantled to be potentially rebuilt again again a later date. Personally I intend to display mine but I need to first source a suitable (and large!) display case. Remember to factor in some additional cost if this is going to be your preference. It’s certainly not a cheap set in this respect. It’s also not something you can easily display on a bookcase mainly due to the overhang of the rotors.

I will warn you though, that there are a significant number of stickers to apply across the build. I genuinely detest stickers and wish Lego would use more printed tiles for their builds. Given the huge advancements in technology it does feel a bit remiss of them here. I understand the potential cost constraints of this, but as this isn’t a cheap set to begin with however, over time, stickers tend to take damage or worse – peel and lift at the edges. Given that this set is one that will either be built and rebuilt or displayed, that may be something you wish to consider when purchasing. It is in all honesty, one of the best Technic sets out there by a long stretch. When compared to Lego’s iconic car builds that have preceded this set, its right up there for attention to detail and authenticity. Although it is a great deal of fun to build it ultimately doesn’t have a huge amount of longevity to it as a final product. It’s also, and far I say, a little on the ugly side when fully constructed, with still too many technic pins left on display for my liking. This is, and has always been my biggest complaint with these technic sets. I do wish Lego would find a way to hide more of these build elements so their models look even more authentic. Also let’s be honest, it’s more than a tad steep at the full suggested retail price of 179.99 as a lot of these sets tend to be. Fortunately Amazon have it on offer here for 172.99 at time of review, which is better but still eye watering steep. It’s not for everyone at this price and is more geared towards collectors and aviation enthusiasts. It also seems like the price per piece ratio is higher than usual, especially given almost half of the 2001 set pieces are, in reality, small technic pins. However, if you are looking for a collectors investment piece, and if there were ever a time to re-sell, I would imagine you would easily recoup most, if not all or possibly even more of your cash back. The build and engineering aspects of this product are incredibly good, and in reality probably helped save this set from a slightly less favourable review. One star off only from me with this set. Overall a cracking set and a thoroughly enjoyable build. Well done Lego!

This is an absolutely amazing build. It’s takes time and a lot of patience but as always LEGOs step by step manuals are easy and simple to follow along with the individual numbered bags making it much easier to find find pieces.

You set off by building some basic parts that make the landing wheels ect which are all useable and move up and down like you’d expect the real deal to
You then move onto the cabin, which has some pretty complicated parts but as long as your filling slowly you will get there. This part contains lots of levers which are going to control the rotors blades ect later.
We then move onto the gear box , wow that’s impressive! This is where you’ll find a switch to control the speed of the motor.
Then we build the sliding doors, these work perfectly and then onto the tail.
After adding the final touches it’s done ! And it’s incredible. There are lots of motorised parts and they are facilitating to watch. For my first big build i am super impressed and it only took me a week ! Would recommend.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersIt’s been about 35 years since I last built a Technic helicopter, so it is interesting to see how things have changed. This set comes with 16 bags (numbered up to 5), 2001 pieces, and as with any Technic set, probably about 1200 of them are the Technic pins.

I have built several Lego sets that have been over 2000 pieces, but none have taken me as long to build as this one. As the decades have gone buy Technic Lego sets have become more and more complex, this is no exception. A normal Lego 2001 piece kit would normally take me about 7-8 hours to build, but this one took me about 13-15. Each of the numbered sets of bags took about 3 hours to finish. I’m surprised this one is marked as 11+ as there is some really tricky building involved – the way all the gears sit together in order to work the rotor blades, the landing gear and the winch all by just switching a lever is nothing short of exceptional.

Once finished, it certainly looks like a helicopter and this, I believe is the biggest helicopter Lego have done as well as being the first time based on a real vehicle, the H175 Air Rescue. Technic sets have been getter better at hiding the technical nature of the building designs over the years and this has carefully designed panels to keep edges flat and looking like the real deal.

This set comes with a battery pack and a motor so that you can get the rotors spinning and it’s very impressive, even down to a working joystick in the cockpit to alter the rotors when in flight (disclosure, model can’t actually fly!). At 179.99, this set has been affected by the recent Lego price hike which brings it in at 8.99p per piece – normally for these bigger sets it’s around the 6p mark.

Overall, if you like Technic sets for the extremely impressive design and engineering that goes into it, and wish to build Lego’s biggest helicopter yet, then this is the model for you. I just hope you a large table to display it, because it won’t fit on a shelf due to the rotor blade span.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersEpic build. 400 pages of Lego technic. Wow. This is an amazingly intricate project to build. Easily the hardest yet and built up slowly over a few weeks but could be done quicker. There are 5 main bags and you start off building up the motor that requires 6 AA batteries (which don’t come supplied).

I have a love hate relationship with Technic. It’s so fiddly and lots of little blue and red connector pieces but worth it in the end. It’s really quite large when complete and great to be able to use the motorised winch, spinning blades and landing gear. The engineering in this is very impressive and was happy to build it with my kids as we all learned something (from engineering to patience 😀 ).

Price wise: not quite a Lego Lamborghini in price but fairly expensive. At nearly 200 you need to be some sort of Lego Technic/Aviation/Airbus fanatic to get this.

I got this for the family to put together. There was a lot of us so it made it easier to do. But it was still quite difficult. There were so many pieces. The instructions were good though. Easy to understand. This is the first time doing a Lego set like this before. It was a good activity for family so I’ll be getting another one. My kids were obsessed with the helicopter blades that move.

I’m not sure what i can say to be honest as well its Lego,

I have been playing with Lego well since a young child, i love the Technic sets as they encourage cognitive thinking. This set is that of the Airbus H175 rescue helicopter that is one of the newest fleet made by airbus.

This set is amazing and complex, the set comes in bags that need to be build in order if you want (i do) there are a good clear set of instructions.

The parts are well made to the normal Lego standard, as this is a technic set and contains parts that function like a real world helicopter the set contains 1 x motor which requires batteries to work.

Once this set is built i could be hung from a ceiling above kids bed or sad like me on display.

All in all another amazing set from Lego highly recommended. PS your never to old to have fun building Lego i love spending time with my son building

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe title of this review are the first words out of the mouth of my fourteen year old grandson when I gave this terrific Lego Technic Airbus to him. My grandson is slightly autistic but this has never slowed his ability of concentration and his absolute favourite pastime is building Lego Technic models. He has several of them now but this is by far the most advanced and has many more pieces. All children are different so some might need help building this as it is quite an advanced toy but I’m sure it will be great fun no matter if help is required or not.
On opening, this kit comes with everything required to build this working model including the motor but not the batteries which will need to be purchased separately. My grandson has spent most of his free days over the last few weeks putting this together but he insisted on doing it himself all of the way through and he has made an amazing job of it. The instructions are reasonably easy to follow and as with all Lego kits the parts fit together perfectly.
Once built up and the batteries installed, this has many working parts, the motor will spin the rotors for a more realistic experience and other controls will operate the rescue winch etc’.
I would have loved to help him build this but he wouldn’t have it so I might need to get myself something similar that I can enjoy putting together, lol. Lego has certainly come a long way since my childhood when it was really just basic brick shapes but the quality has not faltered and that can be seen all the way through this superb kit.
This is not a cheap item but for any lover of construction toys or specifically Lego this will give hours and hours of fun and in the end leave them with a terrific looking model to keep and cherish, my grandson keeps this on a shelf in his bedroom in pride of place and demonstrates it to everyone that visits.
    Amazing Lego kit.

I got this Lego Technic Airbus kit for my grandson who is 12. It says it is for 11+ but I would say that is pushing it a bit, more like 13+, but with a little help he managed it.

It is a fantastic model and quite intricate in places so takes quite a few hours to complete but that’s the fun of it. The instructions are excellent and detailed so there was no problem following them.

Once completed it is not just a static lego model, it is a toy in itself. It has a motor for the rotors which requires six AA batteries (not supplied) and has lot of moving parts steering, winch, pitch control and retractable wheels.

This would make a great Christmas or Birthday present for any teenage or near teenage boy that is into model building.

This is an awesome Lego set that is incredibly detailed and so many cool features that are so cool. So this is a big set you do get a lot of pieces over two thousand according to the product listing, but I have not counted them to check. Building the set is not a quick process but the instructions are very well detailed and the process was quite straightforward overall, it claims to be for eleven years and up but I don’t think an eleven year old would have the patience to build this alone, it may however be a good project to complete with an adult over a few days.

The completed helicopter is so cool, it is very heavy and feels quite sturdy, the motorised parts in particular are very well designed. I really like all of the interactive details like the steering. One thing to bear in mind is that it does require six AA batteries to operate the motors which is quite a bit. Overall I’m really happy with it but it is not cheap.

My 9 year old is a huge Lego fan, and we trialled this to see how he’d get on with the more advanced Technic stuff. (This is recommended for 11+)

He loves it !! It is a relatively complex build, as you would imagine, and took a bit of time. But he managed most of it without too much difficulty. The instructions are good as always.

The aircraft is fantastic. The rotor blades are motorised, and have manual pitch control. My son learnt so much about how helicopters work from building this model. It also has retractable landing gear, and a winch (it’s a mock up of the Airbus H175 configured for SAR operations).

Absolutely love this. I fear though I’m about to end up spending a lot more money on Lego Technic !! All in all though, a great gift idea for an inquisitive older child (or adult !), and like most Lego products, it’s well made and great fun.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersOnce completed, this Lego helicopter has rotating tail rotators and propellers and the level of detail is quite amazing.

It is on the difficult side to build though, so make sure you follow each step carefully. If you’re purchasing for a child, bare this in mind as they may require a bit of help along the way.

All in all, it’s hours of entertainment in putting this together and quite a challenge, so if you’re up to the task, give it a go and you’ll be pleased once completed.

It is however on the expensive side at 164.99, which was the price at time of writing.

This set is huge with 2001 pieces. It takes a lot of time and perseverance to put together but it’s absolutely worth it. There’s your usual blocks but also gears, levers, motors, linkages, there’s a lot going on.

The instruction manual is large and clear and takes you step by step through each module to fit it all together.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI spent a good four or five hours putting this LEGO Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter together with my nephew. From the size of the box alone it’s apparent that this is a very big model so I cleared the dining table to put it together on.

The instructions are very good as I’d expect from LEGO, but because of the amount of pieces and all the moveable parts I did find it tricky to connect the sections together properly, and had to go back a couple of times to correct a few errors. The box says it’s for ages 11+ but I think it’s pretty challenging even for an adult!

Once everything is connected though, the helicopter is very impressive to play with and it’s an absolute joy to fire up those rotors. These have manual pitch control just like the real thing, with batteries only required for the motor. The product details here are somewhat contradictory so just be aware that batteries are not included. The battery pack once installed is easy to get to but does need unscrewing.

In reality the Airbus looks a lot smoother and streamlined but LEGO have still done a great job of including so much functionality in this model without sacrificing too much of the appearance so I am very impressed with the attention to detail overall. There’s just so much to love about this helicopter model and I am very happy to have it.

As always for the cost 167 this is LEGO and worth the money. It’s a complex challenge of a build and requires you to pay attention to the instructions.
The motor requires 6 AA batteries and these are not included.

You can attach the motor at a later stage once completed and also open the top white canopy to show off the internal workings of the blades.

Once finished it’s heavy so be mindful if helping children to complete this.

Excellent piece of kit. Great Christmas prese

    This set is awesome.

Definitely need to pay attention to each step as some parts are very complex but its a rewarding build.

I like that you can open the top white canopy to show off the working internals for the blades as the controls are rather clever.

The finished product is huge and heavy.

Swooshing is pretty fun, but there’s a lack of places to hold.

(With the weight I don’t feel safe swinging it around by the tail.)

The winch, wheels, and rotors spinning and working with the motor makes “flying” the beast a blast.

My biggest complaint would be the lack of yellow pieces. I would’ve loved a more “rescue” orientated livery, the white and red is a little plain.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAbsolutely astonishing!!!! The intricacy is crazy. I made a few mistakes along the way so make sure you follow the instructions careful. Luckily I was able to get access to the but was wrong and make the correction fairly easily.

This is a fiddily build so make sure you or whoever you buy it for are up to the challenge.

It is all worth it for the moment you switch the motor on. Oh and make sure you have 6 AA batteries for the motor so you are not disappointed when you go to build. At least the battery pack is easily accessible to add them later though if you need.

Definitely worth the money. I am so impressed with how detailed and intricate the workings are of this model.
