I got used to the normal keyboard. It does not have an Alt key instead we have a Command and Option key. Because of this, there are a lot of mistakes pop up.
For years I have liked the Apple keyboard but wanted to try this Logitech keyboard. It is fantastic. Links so quickly to 3 devices. The feel of the keys is a real improvement, I really like the depression on each key which gives a better feel. So pleased that I made this purchase.
If you are looking for a new keyboard I can’t rate these keyboards highly enough. I have bought three of them now after trying many other makes. These are by far the best in terms of build quality and comfort.
The ability to control three devices with each keyboard is also really handy.
Backlit keys work a treat, but for me using Photoshop and being able to program shortcut keys speeds up the workflow. The Bluetooth unlike some other third party keyboards is very stable and reliable. The keyboard is solidly made and does not slip and slide on the desktop.
So I bought this for a Mac mini – rather than the Apple keyboard. Way way better.. Keys are amazing. Well built and it can be keyboard for three things so if I press 1 it types on the Mac mini – 2 its bluetooth keyboard for my mobile and 3 and it’s for my laptop so I can put it in the stand and have a proper number keypad and all. Battery last so long I don’t even think about it and if it does get low plug in usb C while using it and in a short while you will get another couple of Months use.. Brilliant – can’t fault it.
This keyboard had the X factor a little pricy but when you take it out of the box and put it on you’re computer you can see why I love the lights on keyboard come on when you put you’re have near the keyboard wow
My ancient Apple keyboard from around 2012 has just died so I needed a replacement. I tried the Apple Magic Keyboard in store and didn’t like the lack of key travel, nor the price, so decided to look at alternatives.
Putting all the cheap nasty ones aside I found this and after using it for a few days it’s great. Key travel and feedback is very good. Not mechanical keyboard good, but definitely better than the Apple Magic Keyboard – the latest one with Touch ID.
My first impressions were how heavy it feels. Most keyboards feel too light and easily move on your desk. This one does not. The backlighting is very good and automatically turns off to save battery life. I won’t be using any of the shortcuts to attach it to multiple computers, but this can be done if you need to. Shorcuts for media, including a mute button, are all there and the layout is correct for a UK Mac.
It connected first time to my Mac Studio and has been rock solid, no delays or lagginess it just works.
Overall a great keyboard and at half the price of the Apple keyboard, unless you need Touch ID, I would go with this instead.
Big improvement over Mac keyboard. Switching between different pcs is easy, although you will need to switch the keyboard and mouse separately. Battery seems to last quite a while.
Coming from an old iMac keyboard, this feels like an upgrade.
The customisable buttons and functions for different apps, the backlights, the USB-C connection port for charging and the overall look are great things, however, I’m a man of details, and whatever that spacebar squeaking is I’m not sure, but its been doing it since day one and I presume its the key having all this area and one membrane and that’s what makes it squeak but it just makes it feel cheaper than it should.
Another weird but interesting quirk is the weight. It’s heavy, I think 800g, and it does not move on my desk, it’s quite good as it’s always where I’ve put it at the beginning by the end of me typing a word page, or editing a video.
Have tried it for some gaming and its good, I just don’t game that much to tell a difference there.
NOTE: I own the Windows version of this product and had returned this one as it is Mac but here is my review anyways.
Giving this keyboard 4 stars because overall am happy with the purchase but it has room for improvement.
The pros:
– This keyboard feels premium and very well made. It is heavy and the keys feel fantastic.
– Being able to pair it with 3 laptops and switch with the press of a button is amazing.
– Lights go off when not touching it which is great and senses your hands and the lights come on.
The cons:
-If your windows keyboard layout is set to UK then some of the keys will not correspond, for example the @ key and the ” key are switched which is rather annoying. I manged to fix this issue by changing my Windows Keyboard layout setting to USA and that has worked but now all my dates (Even in Excel) are in the USA format MM/DD/YYYY and not UK format DD/MM/YYYY.
– Also they have an Apple version of the keyboard and a windows one, however the windows one has some of the apple commands as well as the windows commands printed on the keys, like the windows key has OPT/Start on it. It looks weird and can be a bit confusing.
– Wish it had some way to elevate it slightly but it doesn’t and lies pretty flat on the surface
I work on a hackintosh, which boots like a normal PC, then logs into MacOS, and I also use a MacBook Pro to the side.
Most reviews have covered most aspects of this keyboard’s features. But something I’ve not been able to find much info on, which is a bit of a fail on Logitech’s side, is understanding the channel mapping for USB vs BT.
Initially, my keyboard worked wirelessly. Then I set up Bluetooth on both my PC and Laptop to be able to swich (not realising at the time I could keep wireless on my PC and just assign BT to my MBP). Great, right? Except, when I restarted my machine, my keyboard wasn’t working via the USB adapter.
This left me very confused and resulted in a couple of hours of faffing and tweaking in the Logitech Options software.
I un-paired the wireless connection via the software, and re-paired it, and wireless worked again. But now my BT stopped.
Some reviews and answered questions made it seem like this is how it will be – that you can only use either wireless or BT and have to re-pair whichever you wanted to use (not clarifying that this is the case on a channel-by-channel basis but that as a whole, you can use both types of connections ‘simultaneously’).
Well, I got onto support to help me understand this, and we figured it out. So what I’d done was that I had been using channel 1 (the F13 key) for both BT and Wireless, and a channel can only take one signal pairing. So I kept changing it on channel 1, not realising that these keys work for BOTH wireless and BT (initially I thought they were for BT only and that the USB connection was somehow separate, so the documents didn’t really make this clear to me).
So I mange to then assign one channel to my wireless USB receiver, while having 2 more free for Bluetooth connections.
Now I can use my keyboard in boot mode, while still retaining whatever bluetooth connections I had on the other channels (F14/F15).

I purchased this as an upgrade to my standard wired Apple keyboard. It’s got a nice sturdy feel to it. The keys are nice to type with and the recesses help your fingers fall into the keys easily.
The construction seems to be plastic, with a space grey finish – but I wonder if there is metal inside as it has a fair weight to it?
I particularly like the proximity controlled backlight – that’s very handy especially during the winter months when natural light isn’t as bright.
Overall I’m pleased with the keyboard, especially the fact that I can switch between my personal and work MacBooks with the touch of a button (no more faffing with wires etc.)
I’ve not had to recharge it yet so cannot really comment on battery. But it seems good so far!
I did have some issues with the keyboard to begin with which I since discovered that if you connect using just Bluetooth (and not using the dongle that comes with it), if you have file vault on your Mac then you won’t be able to use the keyboard until you have logged in this is a security feature of file vault (which stops all access and connectivity until you have unlocked the disk).
This is easily mitigated by using the dongle (Logitech unifying receiver) AND making sure you download the latest software for said receiver – after doing this (I have the dongle plugged into my monitor) everything works perfect
Apart from that minor annoyance I’m very happy with both the MX Keys and MX Master 3 for Mac – a perfect pair that compliments my setup and helps both ergonomically and with my productivity
I was getting annoyed with my Keychron K2, while that is a premium keyboard, the nostalgia of the mechanical ‘clicky’ sound wears off after a while and eventually is just irritating (especially when someone else is using it!).
I wanted to replace it with (i) low profile keys (ii) something well made (iii) not costs 200 (iv) backlit keys.
Considered the new Apple Magic keyboard to go with my new M1 setup, but even for 179 that’s still not backlit! Decided to give this MX KEYS for Mac a shot as Logitech know their keyboards and it was half the price of the Apple.
Suffice to say, this was a great purchase. While it is technically plastic frame, you wouldn’t know without close inspection. It’s heavy, which gives the feel of high-end, premium materials. It doesnt move at all when typing, some cheap plastic keyboards can move with the slightest knock or even heavy typing, this stays planted on the desk.
It types beautifully, low profile keys but enough feedback to know when you’ve typed. Plus, it’s backlit and only 80!
Buy this, you wont regret it.
I love this keyboard and have been very impressed with my time with it so far. The keys feel nice to press and make a satisfying sound. The battery life is exceptional, I have been using it for nearly two months and have only charged it once so far. I only use it with one system, so cannot make comments on the quick switching between computers.
My only comment would be aimed at Mac users. This is my first keyboard in many years which isn’t an official Apple keyboard, The ‘ESC key is twice the width of the mac keyboard ‘ESC key and, if like me, you use keyboard shortcuts that include the numbers, it may take a short while to get used to the effects of this extended ESC key!
I have not used the keyboard for gaming, so cannot make comment on its performance in that area.
The keyboard is well built, has a great weight to it (fairly heavy) and is nicely illuminated.
You can program and set up the keyboard for individual applications from within the Logitec Options software and works very well.
Ergonomically, it’s fantastic. I love the Numpad. It’s something I missed with the Apple keyboard but no longer! It’s such an improvement.
My original Apple Keyboard De-Sync’d and wouldn’t connect to anything, but with this USB C based keyboard, I don’t have to worry about that. I don’t have a USB C slot on this Mac but I had an adapter handy so all good there. It also comes with a USB dongle that helps with sync!
I turn off my backlight and I haven’t needed to charge it in months which is such a relief! The fact that it can connect to 3 other devices is amazing too but I’ve not utilised that yet.
I probably wouldn’t suggest this for gaming because it’s quite a flat keyboard, the buttons are very quiet to push though so I think it’s the perfect office keyboard for mac.
I’d recommend this keyboard for anyone using Apple Keyboards as a replacement, it’s much more affordable and reliable (My Apple Keyboard lasted 5-6 years before it broke).
Lovely feel and weight to the keyboard, heavier than the full wired Apple keyboard it replaces, and the full keyboard is perfect for productivity and spreadsheet work. The illuminated keys are a nice touch, and adjustable.
As others have discovered, the setup experience for two machines almost left me giving MX Keys 1 star. But a bit of persistence and the keyboard powers both a Mac Mini and a iMac, switching swiftly from one to the other.
Firstly, the M1 Mac Mini connected in seconds, zero complaints. the older iMac on High Sierra wouldn’t recognise the keyboard, but attaching the Logi dongle and installing the keyboard as a Unitary device worked perfectly (but remains invisible to the iMac!) and required downloading the Logi MX software. That said, the system now works perfectly, Mac Mini via bluetooth and iMac via dongle.
The key travel is great, the angle is perfect and the extra 20 wrist rest is a perfect addition, believe me, it feels premiums. I don’t game so apologies for zero feedback in that respect, but typing is comfy and the keys and design have a texture worthy of Apple’s own ethos.
Purchased so that I can use a full size keyboard at home with my works laptop. The problem was that I also had a MacBook in place on the same desk with it’s own keyboard.
This keyboard has enabled me to remove the Mac keyboard as I can now share this keyboard between my Mac and works laptop at the press of a button.
Once you’ve paired the (up to 3) devices to the keyboard you can simply press one of the 3 dedicated buttons to switch between the devices. This is fantastic and it switches almost instantaneously.
The keyboard feels nice to use, looks fantastic and has a nice weight and build quality to it. It has an internal battery which is recharged by the supplied USB-C cable. I couldn’t tell you how long the battery lasts but it is a very long time.
For a keyboard, it is expensive. But for something that I use all day every day I think it’s worth the investment.
Bluetooth pairing was as easy as it gets. Switch the keyboard on and it’s automatically in pairing mode, indicated by a flashing light on the F13 key and the backlight pulsating. If you don’t already have a keyboard connected then macOS will already be searching for one and you will see “MX Keys Mac” show up. Click connect and type in the code followed by pressing the return key. Once connected, the keyboard will stop flashing and is now ready to use.
If you choose you can download the Logitech Options app which gives you a quick and easy way to customise the keyboard.
*How does it feel?
Coming from the very similar looking Apple Keyboard (pre butterfly key days), MX Keys feels just as good. It has all the same Mac keys and the same layout. It is made of metal which affords the keyboard a pleasing and reassuring weight as well as rigidness, which is welcome in such a thin form-factor. The keys feel very much like the Apple ones however I find the indented key caps are significantly more comfortable to type on, with my fingers more often finding the centre of the key and therefore being less likely to miss and hit the corner of another key.
*How reliable is it?
The bluetooth connection is absolutely rock solid. I haven’t yet had it lose connection or go out of range. All of the keys have worked flawlessly and the battery has never run low unexpectedly. I am totally comfortable using this keyboard for live and mission-critical tasks. The first keyboard I received had some issues with the backlight, but this was easily replaced by Amazon.
*What are the features like?
The ability to pair with up to three devices and quickly switch between them with the F13-15 keys is very handy to say the least. I have my keyboard paired with my Mac, with the Windows Bootcamp OS on my Mac and thirdly with my iPhone. When I want to switch from macOS to Windows I simply need to hit the F14 key while the computer is restarting and it works straight away. If I want to quickly type a long message on my phone I simply hit F15, the keyboard immediately connects, and I hit F13 to hop back into macOS when I’m done. The only downside to this is those three function keys which are now taken up, meaning they can only be used for custom shortcuts by holding down the fn key.
The backlight is pretty much identical to the ones you’ll find on MacBooks. Just as bright, just as uniform and even the spill from under the keys looks the same. Adjusting the brightness is achieved by using the same shortcut buttons on the F5 and F6 keys, and if you’ve installed the Logitech Options app you’ll even get an on-screen overlay showing what it’s set to. There’s also an ambient light sensor built in so the backlight will dim slightly when the room gets dark, and brighten when the lights are on. The backlight activates automatically when your hands approach the keyboard or when you press a key. This is a capacitive sensor using the metal body so it works anywhere on the keyboard, and also works by simply touching the metal. I often leave my left hand resting against the side to keep the backlight on while I’m just quickly using the mouse. The backlight automatically turns off when the keyboard is idle and it does this quite quickly but there’s no way to adjust how quickly. I’d like it if it stayed on a little longer. It does however stay illuminated while the keyboard is plugged in to charge, somewhere I will likely leave mine.
The battery life is highly dependant on how you use it. Occasional use will see it lasting many months, whereas with constant use every day you will need to recharge more often. Recharging times are quick and you can still use the keyboard while it’s charging so if it stays on your desk then it’s a non-issue.
The shortcut keys included on the F16-19 buttons are handy and while you can customise them to do anything you want, the glyphs won’t change. So you’re pretty much stuck with the calculator button opening the calculator app as nothing else would really make sense, but it’s still nice to have. I also have to mention the large escape key – love it!
The caps lock key has a white light to indicate when it is on making it easy to miss with the backlight on too, personally I’d have liked to see a green light there just like the Apple keyboard. If you have the Logitech Options app you will get an on-screen display showing you when you’ve turned caps on or off though.
In conclusion, this is a premium low-profile keyboard at a premium price and it meets my expectations. I would happily purchase it again.
Lovely keyboard – maybe the best and most ergonomic I have ever owned. It makes the keyboard that Apple ships with an iMac look cheap and tacky in comparison to this Logitech MX Keys for Mac keyboard. Key travel and feel is 10/10/ Backlighting is a brilliant for working in low-light conditions. The keyboard has proximity sensors so that the keys light up just before you fingers touch them when the backlight has turned off. Battery life is so far about four weeks with 2 out of the 3 bars on the battery indicator showing as filled. What’s not to like? Well …
If your Mac is a desktop Mac (say an iMac as mine is) and it has FileVault encryption turned on (as I do), you are going to have a problem and it is this … when your Mac boots you have to supply your password. You cannot avoid this – it is required so that FileVault cannot be bypassed or disabled if your Mac is stolen. Sadly, at the login prompt the Logitech keyboard simply will not connect to Bluetooth to allow you to type in a password. It will connect after the password has been correctly typed and the Mac has booted, but, at the login screen the Logitech keyboard just isn’t connected to Bluetooth correctly. To get around this either type the password on your old Apple keyboard, but that’s a bit non-optimal as the whole point was to get rid of the old Apple keyboard. Alternatively install the wireless dongle that ships with the Logitech keyboard. This will mean you will need to have an unused USB-A port on your Mac. You will also need to download and install and run the “Logitech Unifying Software” from Logitech’s website. Note that this is different to the Logi Options application that is also downloaded from Logitech’s website but which is used to set up and configure the keyboard itself. The “Logitech Unifying Software” is not mentioned anywhere in the documentation I received with my keyboard and it was only luck that I saw a reference to it online when trying to install the dongle and getting it to work. However, plug in the dongle, run the unifying software and pair the keyboard following the on-screen instructions and suddenly everything works when booting on a FileVault enabled desktop Mac. Logitech really should make this problem and its resolution a little bit more widely known and/or easy for a consumer to find.
Summary – lovely keyboard. A great addition to my desktop setup.
This is the fourth keyboard I’ve bought since replacing my old Mac laptop with a new system of laptop plus monitor. Crucially, as a photographer, I needed one with a backlight. The first one was the Apple one. No backlight! Plus with pale grey lettering on a white background impossible to use even in daylight. I sent it back. The second one, by Editors Keys, was a quarter of the price, with excellent backlighting and just as comfortable to use. Unfortunately several keys stopped working and I was unable to get any support from the manufacturers. Number 3 was a white keyboard from Perrix. So far fine, and comfortable, but the backlighting just doesn’t provide enough contrast with a white keyboard. So then I thought, maybe I should just spend a bit more. So I got this Logitech one. It is very solidly made, looks good, nice amount of movement on the keys, backlighting is superb – it even comes on as soon as I move my hands near the keyboard. It has the facility to switch between three different computers, which is cool even though I don’t need it. One star missing because it was quite fiddly to set up. But it is my first wireless keyboard……Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
With my work and personal Macs on the same desk at home, I got fed up with switching keyboards and mice. There are cheaper keyboards that enable switching between multiple computers, but I chose the Logitech MX keys for Mac as the layout is almost exactly the same as the keyboards I had before (the older style Apple wireless with AA batteries). I am very pleased with my choice, and wish I had changed sooner. This keyboard appears very well made, does not move on my desk, and typing is very easy. The backlight is really good and turns off when not in use or not needed. Definitely an upgrade from my previous keyboards but easy to switch with the layout being so similar.
There is a warning in the description that (unlike an Apple keyboard) you may not be able to connect via Bluetooth when starting up a Mac that has encryption enabled (which everyone should). So I was disappointed to find that the keyboard can’t be connected to a Mac via the charging cable. Not a problem for laptops, but if you have a desktop you will need to use the USB dongle, though if you only have two computers you can setup the third connection as bluetooth to free up the USB port when needed.
This is the keyboard Apple should have made. It feels fantastic to type on, it has a long battery life and the backlight looks great. Switching between devices is also very easy.
I haven’t given it five stars because:
– There is no option to keep the backlight on when the keyboard isn’t plugged in. Instead it turns off after a few seconds, turning on when the motion sensors detect your hands.
– Occasionally the keyboard loses the bluetooth connection and I have to unpair and re-pair it with my laptop
– The layout differs from that of the Macbook/Apple keyboard slightly, including putting a CTRL button between the option and arrow keys, as well removing the left function key. For a keyboard designed for Macs I would expect it to follow the same pattern.
However, I am happy with the purchase overall. It is particularly useful since my desk setup includes my (work) PC and my (personal) Macbook. Being able to switch between the two without messing around with wires is fantastic.
My Magic Keyboard gave a lot of problems with the keys. It’s only a couple of years old yet the “T” and three of the numbers on the keypad are frozen solid and they can’t be fixed. The spacebar is also sticking. Apple has rightly taken a lot of stick for their keyboards, it’s unacceptable. I bought the Magic Keyboard, the large one with the keypad for 120 to use with my iMac. I don’t know why I do it, every time I end up with the Apple Magic Mouse or Keyboard I always change to Logitechs Master products. I now have the MX Master Mouse and the MX Keys which arrived today.
The Keyboard looks great, very compatible with Apple products in its aesthetics and the Apple version has all the right keys and shortcuts you need including launchpad. It’s the key mechanism that’s, the winner here. There is great travel in them and the whole keyboard is superb to type on. Easy to set up as I already have the unifying receiver for my mouse and Logitech options installed. I’ve also set the keyboard up with my iPad pro and that works great.
Don’t bother with the Magic Keyboard, just get this great keyboard from Logitech and you won’t regret it.
I’m mostly an Apple user but using this on my work windows 10 laptop while working from home. Only the Mac version was in stock so took a gamble on it as a YouTube video I watched mentioned it should be ok. I was hoping that it would be still be possible to swap the keyboard format and it would just be the keyboard labels that would be off but for anybody else in a similar scenario, it doesn’t seem to be possible to swap format-the command to switch for the cross platform version of the keyboard doesn’t work.
The most noticeable problem for me is that the alt and windows keys are swapped position.
The print-screen button is one I would use also that doesn’t work but I think that would be fixable by installing the Logitech options software as this allows remapping of F-keys but my work-place aren’t keen on software installs so haven’t gone down this road yet!
I knew this windows support was a bit of a gamble and it does still work perfectly fine-there are a few more keys e.g @ that are positioned differently but once you’re aware of the position on a windows keyboard and that it won’t match what’s on the key itself! Besides this I’m very happy with the keyboard-I’m probably used to using more entry level keyboards so this is noticeable premium compared to anything else I would have used and worth the extra so far for me.
This is a well built, tactile and functional keyboard. I recommend this product to any Mac user, and if you have 100 to spare you cannot go wrong. Keep reading for my full review.
I upgraded to this keyboard from a Corsair Mechanical keyboard I had laying around from an old Windows PC. I was afraid that after going from tactile keys with a lot of key travel, a shallow keyboard would be hard to get used to. After three weeks of daily use, I actually prefer the feel of the MX Keys for feel and accuracy. Despite the keyboard’s size, individual keys have a good degree of travel. The layout is good, and I make less mistakes typing compared to my old Corsair Strafe.
I saw one reviewer comment on the metal construction – note this keyboard is made from a hard plastic, and not metal. Despite this, the keyboard is rigid and well built. This isn’t a particularly scientific assessment, but since I took it out of the box 3 weeks ago, despite using it daily, I haven’t had to charge it once. That said I only use the backlit feature at night, which is what drains battery faster. This, in my opinion, is the main standout feature when compared to Apple’s Magic keyboard, which despite costing 150, isn’t actually backlit. The ‘flow’ feature is a nice to have, but it is aimed at a niche crowd, and I will probably never use it.
It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the colour of the keyboard is a good 1-2 shades lighter than the colour of the Mac Mini, and other ‘space grey’ Apple products. There is some light bleed from the side of the keys, which is not shown in the promo pictures (the backlight looks similar to the older generation of MacBook keyboards). Despite this I think it is a good looking product, but if you are very particular about aesthetics, the two points about are worth noting. Other point to note is for some reason the brightness shortcuts (F1 & F2) did not work until I installed the dedicated Logitech software. Not sure why this is, but it’s been working without a fault since.
If Apple’s Magic Keyboard was priced closer to 100, I would have rated the MX Keys 4 stars due to the above. However given the 50 difference, inclusion of backlighting, tactile feel of the keys and robustness of the MX Keys, it’s an easy 5 stars from me.
I like low profile keyboards as I find them much easier on my wrist, and while I don’t like the super shallow travel keys on some keyboards (Apple butterfly keys) I also don’t like ones with a lot of travel either.
This keyboard has the perfect amount of travel for my tastes.
With the Apple keyboard I couldn’t type anything without making tons of mistakes, and being the Space Grey model it was nearly impossible to see the key labelling in almost any light. I kept hitting ‘page down’ instead of delete… it drove me nuts..
The Logitech MX Keys for Mac has a Mac specific key layout and labelling, so everything is at it should be, but more importantly the typing experience is much better. The little dish shape on each key stops me from sliding accidentally onto adjacent keys, and the backlighting helps me see those keys I use less frequently.
The final boon is that you can customise the functions keys to carry out specific key combinations, which is useful for carrying out shortcuts in editing programs with a single key press.
I can’t say how good the battery life is as I’ve not had it long, but honestly it will never be more than 6 inches away from a USB port anyway… so its simply not an issue for me.
I personally don’t use the ability to pair it with more than one device, but I could see this being very useful to some.
In a nutshell, I’d advice anyone buying a Mac, to ditch Apple’s keyboard for this… its way better.
i would have given this keyboard five stars, however it’s like the old story – batteries not included !!! ok before anyone shouts you don’t need batteries you charge it by cable… this would be fine but Logitech only supply a usb c to usb c cable – wold have been nice to have the adapter to connect usb c to a standard usb computer connector….
Ok you can but these connectors and cables from amazon but have to wait two days – so those of you like to do an unboxing order the cables when purchasing the keyboard…..
i was lucky enough to have another computer with the newer connections to charge then connect to the older computer
Come on Logitec the adapter is 6.99 please include – if this new keyboards is as good as the Logitech 780 model great
first review after ten minutes the 780 model keys are better – why you ask why i am buying the new model well the 780 model does not have backlit keys and i have bad eyes…
however the Logitech keyboards are far better than the Apple keyboards at 149 the key touch is poor for those type regular and not backlit …
