The controls could be simpler in this day and age – reminds me of controls for a VCR. And it could be cheaper for what it is. But it works.
Brilliant, I love the sunset mode, really helpful to wind down at night. The sunrise is also great, the light rise is gradual, waking to a light room helps to wake up gently. I am particularly enjoying the radio alarm, which gradually turns up in volume. All in all a good purchase, even if it is a little expensive.
Love it – nice speakers, smaller than I expected which is good, it was easy to set up using the manual, generally looks nice and feels solid. The the light ranges from really low to really bright. The preset noises are nature sounds, some static, street noises, and (not distressing) beeps.
Generally really love this. It’s pricey buy worth it.
We bought the cheapest lumi sunrise clock but returned it as the highest brightness was too cosy and we didn’t wake up. Having read up on the different ranges we decided to spend up to get the brightest model.
This is very different the highest brightness is almost too bright but you have the option to change which brightness it wakes you up on.
If there is no alarm set we still wake up just to the light and feel so much more refreshed.
The only annoying thing is the aerial needs to be pulled all the way out for signal on the DAB radio which is ugly.
Although we don’t use it, if you want your alarm to be a song of your choice it has to be via a usb stick. It can’t play a Spotify playlist etc as an alarm.
The Bluetooth will work with Spotify etc and the sound quality is really quite good.
I am using the product for nearly two years, bought it when I realised that I have SAD, and helped a lot with waking up early mornings refreshed. It is an expensive item but it worth it for my health. I can recommend it as a life changer. Setting it was a bit tricky but I easily got the hang of it. I could feel whenever I left my phone charging over night in another room that I rested better, and waking up gently with birds chirping ( it is my favourite setting, there are plenty of other options), with a sunrise leading to a nice start for a busy day.
Great radio & multiple sounds to wake to, the light is fab with varied brightness I just found setup instructions a bit difficult & took me a while to work out how to turn the light off which is simply by turning this rhs button round until light is ou
I have looked at lumie bodyclocks for years but have always been put off by the price. However, this clock has changed my life and more noticeable now as the mornings get darker. I’ve struggled to fall asleep and wake up refreshed but since purchasing this clock, I have done so solely with the use of light (I haven’t had to use the sound functionality for an alarm, purely the light). The sundown gives off such a warm comforting glow and where prior to purchase I would sometimes struggle to get to sleep before 2am, I now fall asleep and wake up with ease. I’ve been reluctant to drop my backup alarm on my phone because I wasn’t sure if it was a fluke/consistent etc but the body clock does its job and I have now done away with my other alarms. I’m going to the gym at 5:30am and naturally setting a better sleep routine because I really do like the calm this light brings in the evening. The only negative thing I would say is it looks like quite a beast.. and I wasn’t expecting a long arial for the radio. I didn’t but the body clock for aesthetics though so this hasn’t impacted my star rating.
The biggest failing of this product is that it doesn’t set the time using DAB, despite products 1/4 of the price doing this automatically at power-on… there would be no reason for Lumie to integrate a (probably expensive to manufacture) backup battery if set by DAB and the clocks would be set forward or backwards automatically twice a year.
The feature which has been most impressive in function has been to have the light dim to mimic a sunset, the light is of a spectrum which doesn’t invite you to stay awake and gradually sends you to sleep.
I bought this particular model for the DAB radio and being able to set a different alarm time for each day of the week, had to spend out big to get those features so spent that little bit more to be able to bluetooth podcasts, which can be used in conjunction with the sunset feature so it doesn’t play all night.
Initially, we had trouble activating snooze, and had to tap pretty hard, this problem seemed to go away after a couple of weeks but perhaps my partner has simply nailed the technique (the entire top glass is obstensibly the snooze button).
Overall, I’m impressed but the perfect alarm clock doesn’t exist.
1. I really like this even though it’s expensive. What I don’t like is the awkward controls on it. Would I buy it again..NO
2. I often use a walking stick and the other day I tried to move this with one hand. It’s incredibly difficult and even harder if it’s with cold hands. I found myself moving it round by the antenna which is definitely not ideal
So obviously this thing costs a lot for what it is. Presumably in part due to being a certified medical device.
But it works very very well as a sunrise / sunset alarm clock, lights are very bright.
The rest of the electronics are functional but not polished:
* The DAB radio’s reception isn’t fantastic in my house, but that seems to be the case for any of them.
* Bluetooth seems pairing isn’t very smooth with an iPhone 12, have to tell my phone to pair with it each time.
* There is a selection of in-built audio including lots of birds, military drill and traffic. Weirdly no ocean wave sounds though.
* The USB port isn’t for charging your phone (which I’d assumed) but to allow you to give it MP3s to play.
On the whole I’m happy with this as it does everything I want.
Overall great product. Very high quality feel, still working great after many months of use. The glass cover feels very solid. The sound quality is great, although it does crack at high volumes.
The nature sounds are okay, much better than the competition, but still, there is space for improvement and more variety would be welcome.
It has the added bonus of Bluetooth connectivity, which is great. You can also store radio stations and program the alarm differently for each day of the week, which is a very clever feature. The sunset mode is also very handy to wind down.
The very only real con is that the light may be just not powerful enough if you are a deep sleeper.
It does make a huge difference when compared to waking up in darkness, this is much more gentle.
It works fine except the quality of the sound of voices when the radio is automatically switched on in the morning by my wife to hear the news bulletin.
She is rather deaf and, on waking, has not yet inserted her deaf aids.
This would be a five star review, except for the lack of a 12/24-hour option for time display. I can’t believe something so simple has been missed.
Otherwise, this is a massive improvement over the Philips light alarm clock I had, specifically because I don’t need to have any sound play (I.e. I can have the sunrise effect without an alarm sounding), and the fact I can set a weekly alarm schedule and it just works – no need to set the alarm each night.
It’s maybe a bit more expensive than it needs to be, but it does the job.
This light is a definite improvement from my very old wake up light. It took a while to get set up and learn how to save settings but the improvement in sound and saved preset radio stations is really good. I like that it has a sleep function and will play sounds of your choice and dim the light for sleep. It definitely improves and helps me getting to sleep and waking up.
This product has done exactly what I required. I read a lot of mixed reviews around this product mainly about price and in truth it is a little bit on the pricier side. Having said that if you want to wake up early feeling refreshed then this is exactly what you need. I have been getting up at 3am and being able to do my morning routine so I can spend time with my wife and kids later in the day and 200 is absolutely nothing compared to that. This morning in particular I just woke up to the light and not the birds sounds I usually have chirping, which is obviously going to be great going forward because it won’t disturb anyone else. Great product 5 stars as brightness, sound and general concept are class.
Bright ‘white’ light good for early mornings in winter to promote good mood and relieve chronic depression. Fiddly to use initially but practice makes perfect, Very expensive, however!
It takes a few goes to configure for your optimum settings. Some settings are more intuitive than others, but you figure it out eventually.
I especially like being woken by the dawn chorus. The DAB radio is very easy to use, although the 5 station buttons are “soft” to press, proper “click” switches would be an improvement.
The yellow/orange/red fading light is significantly better than the filament lamp in the original Lumie lamps.
It is expensive for a “clock radio”, but it offers so much more. It is ideal for those who struggle with their sleep patterns.
This item takes some getting used to – its tricky to work out, but once you get the hang of it, it’s fine. The alarm works well and you can awake to your favourite station with progressive light. The night light is also good.
The sound quality is ok overall but not amazing but all things considered its a pretty good package.
The interface of this is far from intuitive, should have put another button or knob on there too make it easier to use. I frequently have to examine the screen to see why a button press didn’t do what I expected – not ideal when lying in bed. Pretty great other than that though.
I’ve definitely found I am less tired since using my Bodyclock. The sunrise and sunset features are easy to set and work well. Being able to set separate 7 day alarms is a great feature. The sound quality is good enough with both the DAB radio and Bluetooth music from my phone. The only things I would change are that the built in sounds are a little too synthetic sounding to make me feel relaxed, and I would like to be able to set the clock a little brighter so I’m not squinting to see it through the night. Overall a great product and I would recommend it to anyone who suffers from tiredness through the dark months of the year.
Love my Lumie. Can’t believe I lived without it. Found it so much easier to get up on the dark mornings and also has many other functions to help relax at anytime of the day. Worth every penny
Very effective sunrise/ sunset. This is a repeat purchase. Already have one.. wanted another!
Not easy to set up … should really have an app with it. But stick with it…it’s worth i
This is a very good body clock light, radio combo. Good range of sounds and lighting effects. However the user interface is terrible, unintuitive and very difficult to navigate. It’s almost impossible to know just how it was possible to get it so bad.
Love it. Would recommend not going for the DAB version, it can be limited in stations depending on location. The FM version is the better option in my opinion although it would be nice to have the choice of purchasing the Luxe FM version in black too.
I purchased this for my daughter to help her ease into the day. She has always struggled to get up when it’s dark outside. It’s the best invention ever. If you are looking for a sound radio this is not the one for you but the fact it players radio and you can connect devices by Bluetooth or plug in is a great bonus.
Light therapy has really helped me to feel more awake, alert and brighter in mood. I set it to gradually get brighter half an hour before my alarm and I tend to have stirred and woken naturally about 5 minutes before the alarm which feels a much friendlier way to wake up each day!!
Lots of relaxing sounds to choose from. The only slight disappointment is the quality of sound on the radio…considering it’s DAB and the additional price for this it’s not great but tolerable!!
I have SAD and I’m so glad I bought this lamp. It’s really helped me deal with waking up on the dark winter mornings and my mood has improved vastly. I love the sunset sequence combined with one of the nature sounds – very relaxing as you fall asleep. I’ve also been turning the light on full and using it as a sun lamp for about half an hour during the day. It’s bright and cheerful and not as ‘bleak white’ as traditional ones. I’m sure this has also helped my mood. The Bluetooth speaker is a nice touch and the connection is reliable. The sound quality is fine for what it is.
The DAB hasn’t picked up many stations. I live in the country so signal can be a problem but the radio in the room below picks up quite a few more… this wasn’t an issue for me as I just stream radio and music from my phone using the Bluetooth.
The clock-radio is bigger than it looks on the advert and stands around 8″ (20.5 cm) tall and 9″ (23 cm) wide. I wouldn’t say that it is the best looking one that I’ve seen but it certainly isn’t the worst. There is an instruction booklet included which has diagrams of the different functions. There are 5 buttons on the front which can be used to preset your favourite radio stations, it is easy to operate, the only fiddley bit I found was setting the alarm. You can set it to wake up with bird song; crickets; white noise; waterfall; river; thunderstorm etc. there are 20 to choose from. In sunset mode, the light fades away over 30 minutes and is very relaxing. The light in the mornings is a bit harsh but the bird song is a lovely wake up and sets me up for the day ahead. The radio is the best clock-radio that I have ever owned, I found it to be crystal clear and changes stations crisply with no horrible crackling like my other one did. I have the radio downstairs in my lounge during the day but it does lose settings when I unplug it, which would be a bonus if the manufacturer could add a battery to sort this, I would simply like to unplug from upstairs and plug back in downstairs without having to reset the clock or anything. The price is a bit steep but the quality of the product it very good so I suppose you get what you pay for. I’m very happy with it and another very useful feature is that I can charge my phone from it using the very handy USB port in the back of the machine. The light can be kept on if you want it and will automatically turn off after 12 hours and it can be turned from bright white light to a lovely warm yellow glow so you can set the mood on an evening .
This is a good little system, boxed up well and slightly larger than I had originally imagined it to be. There is an alarm which you can have set to various different options, mine is set for morning alarm for my usual time. There is a light which is good as has different levels of lighting and is supposed to be very good if you have SAD, I don’t have the full blown version of that however its a comforting lamp on the item anyway. The radio is good to have as its nice to have music to wake up to if you enjoy that! The quality of the radio is good and am happy to have it on in the background whilst getting ready in the morning. The best bit for me is the sounds that it can amplify for you, I have a snoring husband and when I set this to play the rain sound it kind of helps to drown him out (so to speak) and helps in the aid of falling to sleep….for that part alone I would recommend, but putting it all together its a fab unit…..albeit quite a pricey one.
Having recently received Lumie Bodyclock Luxe 700FM to review, I will compare this DAB edition. The first thing to mention is that although the RRP for the 750DAB is higher, it’s actually selling for less at the time of writing. So if you are considering the two options, check their prices.
Have a look at my previous review of the 700FM to see how I felt about the sunrise/ sunset features. In summary, I like the sunset a lot and think it might be helping me drop off to sleep more easily. After several weeks of using the sunrise alarm I am not sure the bright light is doing much for me, as I still only wake up when the sound of birdsong begins.
The 750DAB is very similar to the 700FM, but there are a few differences which make it slightly better. First, obviously there’s DAB radio. That means you get more stations and better sound quality. I don’t often listen to FM radio but I like listening to 6 Music and Jazz FM on DAB, so I will be more likely to listen to the radio on this model.
Secondly there are more input options. The 700FM allows you to play the radio, the nature sounds built into the device, or to connect your phone via Bluetooth. The 750DAB keeps all those options. It then adds aux-in and aux-out capability (basically connecting your headphones to listen to the DAB/ nature sounds from the device, or connecting your phone via a headphone jack to play sounds from your phone). Then there is USB connectivity, which means you can charge your phone (this would be very useful for some) and play sounds from it at the same time.
Thirdly there are a few more nature sounds built into the device. You have two different sound menus, sunrise and sunset. It is a bit difficult to figure out how to play these outside your alarm time, but with the help of the instruction book I got there in the end. There are some odd choices in there. Military drill? Fairground music? I am not sure who would want these. But there are a lot of different types of birdsong, which I appreciate.
In conclusion, given the choice between the two, I would select the 750FM, especially if the prices are similar. It is that little bit more flexible, and if you are buying a luxury alarm clock you may as well go for the best.
