Seven months on I still use this sunrise alarm every day twice a day. Being in the UK, I have it is equally effective in the summer when the sunsets are very late and the sunrises are far too early! This clock allows me to use blackouts and then set a sunrise at a reasonable time rather than 4am I find it is effective for my dog too as it cues him to sleep.
I chose this one for the ability to program very long sunsets (90min) and have no sound. I also liked that the light actually goes from red to blue like daylight whereas other products just seem yellow. I haven’t used it’s radio or sound alarm functions so it’s expensive for what it is.
A couple of minor downsides are that if you don’t set it every night it won’t start the sunrise in the morning. So if I come home late I usually forget and then don’t get the sunrise. It also seems sensitive to being jostled so if I bump it the sunrise turns off. Also there’s no way to turn off the display so in a dark room it’s a pretty conspicuous light! The manual says the display stays on if the clock detects the ambient environment is bright and it just be sensitive bc even in my blackout room it still stays on. But minor issues overall.
This was a present for my wife who was having trouble with her sleep patterns and she thinks it is the best thing ever. It works really well. It is a little complicated to set, and was not cheap, but it was definitely worth it for the improved sleep!
Love this alarm it makes waking up so much easier! I wake before my alarm now and feel ale
Like the sunrise and sunset effects with sounds. Not as good radio sound quality as my previous/old radio alarm. Would like one immediate off switch for everything.
But overall I bought this for the light for waking up to, saving space on my light box.
It wakes me up before the alarm gradually on these dark mornings.
Worked for a start but I soon got used to it and now sleep through it regularly
Having had a cheap version of this for a few years, I thought it was time I upgraded and got the ‘real’ thing. It was definitely worth it. The brightness levels are fantastic and the amount of levels are perfect ensuring a slow transition/wakeup each morning. The sleep mode is great too, with lighting slowly getting dimmer/more red with your chosen soundtrack gradually getting quieter and quieter sending you into a smoothing slumber. Really recommend if you’re like me, can’t sleep and can’t wake!
I saw a lot of people in the reviews complaining about how unintuitive the buttons are and that it feels like being in the 90s, so I was quite hesitant to buy one for myself. I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised. I really like the analog feel and the fact I can use it without wifi or an app. It only took me 5 minutes to set up, and the sunrise light works perfectly, from day one it has had a really positive impact on my whole morning routine. I also really like how it automatically switches off after 90 minutes, which means I don’t need to worry about turning it off before heading out.
Purchased as a replacement for an older lumie alarm clock that lasted for 12 years. The newer models have improved on the old ones- the screen automatically dims with the ambient light and the led lighting prevent it from getting hot. I also like how you can tap the top of the light unit to briefly display the time.
My last Lumie used to be a god send when I started work at 4am and needed to wake up without waking everyone else in the house up, I stick by them now because waking up with light makes you feel so much better than being woken with noise.
My usual standard for winter months was being in bed within 2-3 hours of sun down. It went dark, and I wanted to be in bed, and asleep. I could sleep upwards of 12 hours a day during december and into Jan. I made this purchase at the recommendation of someone I spoke to online – I wanted the sun rise lamp to help me get out of bed in the morning.
Firstly – yes the sunrise works a treat, I am waking up on or before my alarm most mornings, and finding myself wanting to get out of bed within 30 minutes. This is what I expected, and what I got.
What I didn’t expect however, was to still feel perfectly okay come 9pm. I draw my curtains at 4pm, and stick the lamp on full, and five hours later, I am still perfectly fine – no desires to crawl into bed and pass out. It’s given me my evening back. When I do finally get into bed, I hit the sunset button and play on my phone or watch tv – by the time it gets to a mid orange, I am off my phone/tv and feeling drowsey, and by the time the light is out, I am usually asleep within thirty minutes (according to my fitbit).
This is in stark contrast to my old routine, of getting into bed at 7:30-8pm, and then being awake for 2-3 hours. I am getting better sleep in a shorter period of time, I’m being more productive in the evenings – and I was even up doing housework last saturday by 8am. Can’t really ask for more.
Good riddance SADs, I have my own sun now. After 15 or so years of misery, I finally feel happy that it’s heading into winter.
This light is genuinely the only way I can wake up in Winter. I only use the light and not the sounds or radio. For me personally it’s the light my body needs to get to wake up. Each working day I set sunrise for 6:30 and I wake naturally by that time.
The light is fantastic, it can be super bright or just light enough to find the door for a midnight bathroom break.
Pretty quick to setup once you figure out the controls but once it’s set it’s been great.
I have had my Lumie for 7 months now. The sunrise feature is beneficial, but the sunset feature has been the main benefit. I have trouble going to sleep in immediate darkness and the red glow has a calming effect. The radio is rubbish, but that’s not what you buy these clocks for.
The ordinary light is fine, but possibly isn’t sufficient for long term reading.
I wouldn’t be without this clock and if it broke, I would replace it immediately. I wish they made travel ones too.
I bought this because my beloved Philips one died on me after about seven years! So this review is very much comparing the two because they both retail for 150. I bought this one over Philips only because it was on sale for 80. As of now Phillips scores more points overall but with my 70 savings I don’t regret the choice.
Pros:
– Weekly alarm setting with dif times and clear display about the next alarm so you never have to question if the alarm is set (this is a big plus)
– Aesthetically better than Philips in my opinion – looks more like what it is (light/radio/alarm clock)
– The sunset feature is nicer than Philips as this one can set a specific time (15-90 min) and can add sound which gradually gets lower with the light
– Five preset radio stations (Philips has radio but no presets so I never bothered changing stations)
– Light turns off automatically after 90min – good if you forget to turn it off before you leave the house!
Cons
– No Easy on off switch for light (you have to click all the way up or down to turn on and off) Philips had a button and it also sensed the light of the room and adjusted only the display does this without variation
– Sound doesn’t gradually come on with the alarm (Philips went quietest to your highest setting)
– Snooze tap isn’t as sensitive & light turns off for snooze – can only hit snooze once!
– Feels cheap —Lightweight so it moves every time you push a button and buttons are basic without back light or markings to indicate you’re pushing the right one (screen is also a bit small and dark)
– Only 24 hour clock optio
Bought this to replace a previous sunrise clock (Phillips) that had stopped working.
This one is definitely better.
The sunset function really helps my wife settle and sleep while the sunrise gets bright enough to help wake us up gradually.
One bug bear with it though is that the alarm has to be set every time and doesn’t just stay on which means occasionally we forget to set it.
Bought this to cope with the dark winter mornings. It warms up over 30minutes to whatever brightness you set it to. Not used the sound alarm setting on it so have that turned off. Only just found that when it does go off you can tap the top of the light and it turns off. Previous reviews and my own experience was having to lower the light levels by turning it down to 0 each time. Very happy to have found this hack
Before I bought this, I would struggle to wake up in the mornings. Now I find it so easy, the sunrise really helps me to wake up on a morning. Looks great too. I didn’t think I would use the radio function but I love it, it’s great to have on in the background whilst I work. I’ve already recommended this to lots Of people.
If you struggle to wake up, definitely buy it! You’ll see a huge improvement.
It made my morning so much easier.
I tended to stay in bed till 8 or 9 am, but now I get up at 5.30 and start my day with medication.
Also with the sunset light, I sleep better, too.
The red sunset light oddly gives me comfort.
Who would’ve thought that I was in fact a morning person all along?!!
I am not a morning person, and it’s even worse in winter in Scotland – it’s pitch dark when my alarm goes off. After struggling quite a bit, I decided to try this. I particularly like that it holds its settings even when the power is off, so no need to re-set, and also that you can set different days.
This has really helped me waking up in the mornings – I still don’t love mornings, but at least I’m waking up to a soft light rather than a pitch-dark room.
I also really like the sunset feature, which helps me unwind at the end of the day.
Easy to set up. Nice as an alarm. Radio signal is poor. Would probably purchase the more expensive version instead so it can be controlled from phone to turn light/alarm on and off
If I could give 10 stars I would. The set up was very easy and I hardly needed to use the instruction manual. I love the bird sounds to wake up to. It genuinely feels like waking up to a sunrise, and I woke up feeling very well rested. I was wary of spending that much money on something I wasn’t sure would work or give me the results that I was looking for, but it’s been worth every penny. I highly recommend this product, especially for people who are light and sound sensitive. It wakes you up gently and calmly. 10/10.
I have used a sunrise alarm clock for many years now and wouldn’t be without one. It makes such a difference on dark mornings.
What I like about this clock:
The auto dimming display. No bright display when you turn off the light for sleep.
The ability to set the weekly alarm, while choosing to have it on or off for any particular day. E.g., on for working week and off for weekend. Also allows for setting different times for each day of working week if needed.
The ability to have sound as well as light for the alarm. I choose the radio station at my preferred volume. Which is crystal clear.
The only reason I wouldn’t give 5 stars is the initial setup in not intuitive and Is frustrating. But once you get past that it’s a dream.
This has replaced an old sunrise alarm as well as a separate radio alarm clock. Both of which I had to tape a piece of paper over the display because I didn’t like the bright display during the night.
Very happy with this model.
I bought this and it has not let me down. Some have said it’s complicated to operate but I have not found it to be. .. however . I love waking to blackbird song but I can’t because behind the birdsong I can hear ‘when I wake up, in the morning light, I put on my jeans and I feel all right’ it’s there and repeated in a loop do not I have to wake to another sound . If blackbirds are not your thing, then it’s excellent! X
I love my Lumie . Where has this been all my life. The wake up light and sound is a nice gentle way to wake up and I also like the sunset mode which dims the light gradually all the way to off. The sound with the sunset mode is nice too. I have trouble sleeping and also have a job now working nights and this really helps me. Would highly recommend and glad I got this one over cheaper ones I was looking at when I purchased
I’ve got a long history of struggling to wake up in the morning without a series of alarms at 5 minute intervals. Now I’ve bought this, I literally need nothing else!
The sunrise feature that brings the light slowly on over 30 minutes (prior to the alarm noise itself) never fails to wake me up and the alarm that sounds is much easier to listen to as usually I’m awake 5 minutes before it goes off!
If you have trouble with waking up in the morning, I honestly couldn’t recommend this enough.
Have really been enjoying this. I have used Lumie clocks for years but wanted to upgrade to one where the wake up light lasts longer. This one does that. I just wish Lumie made one that wasn’t so fiddly to use. Maybe an app operated one. They are always fiddly to set up.
i say itll change it because its a whole new aspect of rest. majority is used to being jolted and feeling grumpy for the first bit of waking, and with this.. well thats gone. you wake up feeling awake, which is a bit strange and at first this felt very difficult to use although my initial fear re user interface were gone the minute i opened the box. whoever said the buttons are difficult and hard to press mustve received one which wasnt fit for purpose because these are simple, light and soundless. lots of settings which im sure is a hassle to some (on occasion myself too). i didnt realize we were getting a great lamp and radio in this too, which can be used at any time with ease. its revolutionized the way i feel about waking as well as falling asleep. ironically, the sunset is so far our most favourite feature – it tricks your body into thinking its really the sun going down and you get sleepy after only a couple of minutes.. provided you put down and away any and all screens, of course. i wish there were less calm alarm sounds on here, as my wife doesnt wake up in spite it being bright as daylight in our 2-window apartment thanks to this.. but other than that theres really nothing to complain about. its a whole new world. glad we got this one and not an older version which we were first planning to – thisll stay with us even when its safe to move from the UK (brexit and aw).
Mixed review this one. The device is well made, looks good and the light works especially well (emulating sunrise/ sunset). There are two major faults for me. No1. There is no quick on/off for the light. It only fades through the different brightness. This is fine for what you need the Lumie for but I don’t understand why you wouldn’t have a button to turn the light quickly on or off when you need it to. No.2: The FM radio is very poor quality, the aerial is a flimsy wire which only seems to work when I’m holding it. Again, for the price DAB radio would have been a better option.
All in all though the design and general purpose of the device are very good. Easy to functions and settings.
It is a really good product. The menu is simple but perhaps too simple for the price. Wish it had more options for sunset loudness other than just pre-set ones. I find it too loud and need to lower it manually. It would be great if it had a full light on and off option too rather than needing to use the up and down controls.
Looooove it!!!! Wish they could add day date n year. Being able to customize each day’s wake up time is great! The anti slip bottom is good (unlike older models) so it makes it easy to turn on/off each time. I would like more birdsongs please. Oh another superb feature is an option to turn off the clock light and sleep in total darkness which is highly recommended. It’s pricey but a good investment! I want one in every room!
I live in Scotland, and during the winter it is sooooo hard to wake up – this makes it so much easier. I set the sunrise to just 15 mins, and then have the radio playing to wake me up, it’s so soothing and relaxing, but also wakes me up so much quicker. The light is perfect brightness. You can set different times for every day, the light and radio goes off after 30 mins, so no worries if you’ve left it on. The clock goes out when the room is dark so it doesn’t wake you up, and while I don’t use it – if you move the device, it seems to be some kind of snooze feature!
I’ve been using this Lumie light alarm for about a month now. It’s a top quality product and very well made. I’m very pleased I opted for the version with the FM radio as this adds to the waking experience. I’m usually not woken by the light itself, but by the radio. But the key thing is I feel refreshed, which is a massive change for me. I do believe the light, which starts to increase in brightness for around half an hour before the radio kicks in, really helps by body to adjust and prepare for waking. I also use the bedtime night light function which starts bright and then dims the light as you fall asleep. As someone who’s been night owl all my life this has had a very positive effect. A few Cons to consider. The instruction manual, although very detailed, can take a few readings to fully understand what to do. For example, setting the radio presets took a good few attempts. But all in all very happy indeed.
I was really reluctant to spend so much on an alarm clock – my last one cost 10 and was still going strong although admittedly it was one of those annoying beeping ones.
My only regret with this clock is that I didn’t but it sooner. The sunrise is a great way to be woken and many days I wake before my alarm (in the winter I’m convinced it’s daytime every day until my brain remembers I have a sunrise clock). I use the blackbird song to wake me although there’s all sorts of options. The ability to set a different alarm for different days means I don’t need to remember to change it for days when I regularly need to be up earlier. The sunset feature is also good for helping me get off to sleep.
I would definitely recommend this clock
All well and good. Sound quality from radio is like a radio from the early 90’s. not the best.
I do really like the light though, I would totally recommend for this alone. I wouldn’t waste my money to get the radio version.
The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is the fact that I can’t use it in the morning. Unless you are alone in the room or working the same shift as your partner, it won’t work. My wife does not appreciate a light coming on at 5am. I should have realised this before I bought it.
I still enjoy it in the evenings though. Really helps to nod off.
Great solid product but setup feels very outdated and cumbersome to use. Apart from that once you get a hang of it, it works. At brightest setting the defused light is good enough to read, provided you dont have dark walls or ceiling. It could have been a little cheaper for what its worth. But 3 year warranty probably speaks their confidence in quality. Time shall be the judge.
I have been using this body clock for about two months and meanwhile found myself regularly recommending it to friends and family. I used to have difficulties getting out of bed in the morning as general alarm clocks used to feel very abrupt leaving me tired for almost half a day. This is more than just an alarm clock. Having set the sunrise with a forty-minute timer it makes your body aware of the embarking day. It feels like I’m not pulled out of deep sleep in a sudden and uncomfortable way. The settings are easy. I feel more rested when I wake up, more productive before noon, don’t have the need to put many alarms or to snooze as much, the light is very comfortable, the sounds are funny (eg. goats or birds), … When traveling I have missed this very much, wouldn’t want to live in a home without it anymore as it’s very easy to adapt to this amazing improvement, it’s how waking up should be :).
I love this, I fall asleep easily and peacefully with the relaxing sunset and gentle thunderstorm sound effect and wake slowly and comfortably with a sunrise. Its an amazingly natural light source and really helps with your body clock. It has many sound effects and adjustable timing on settings – quite a versatile model this one so you can adapt it to suit you more so than the other models. I choose the blackbird sound effect to wake me, but the sunrise (and only on the 15 min setting) does this effectively alone – no sudden waking up any more with a loud alarm! You feel better for it. Took a bit of time to get used to operating wise- for instance you pre-set sunrise brightness, timing and sound etc and then you are good to go – you just press sunrise ‘on’ button the night before and the sunrise will begin the next morning from red to bright in the timing you set, and alarm noise (if set) will go off at the end of the desired sunrise time – but sunset pre-set is different – you have to set’ no light’ in the settings and put the light on manually yourself before you activate the sunset unless you want some level of night light on constantly as you sleep, the rest fades out. Took a while to figure how to get the sunset to fade – but if you have the light turned on to full before pressing your sunset preset button it then fades the light and sound together (as long as you have light option set ‘off’ on sunset – if light is set ‘on’ or on nightlight it does not fade out with sound effect but remains on until you manually turn it off) – a little confusing but hoping this will help new users faster than me now I’ve figured it out! Once its up and running its fantastic, so don’t let this put you off – its just a matter of understanding it! Than its very easy to operate with button for sunrise (set alarm for next day) and sunset etc. Have not used radio yet as I didn’t really buy it for that but got this model as it was on an offer at same price as model below it. Great product, wouldn’t be without it too and it looks attractive on bedside table!
To start with the is NO Bluetooth speaker, there is also NO usb slot. This is annoying as it was one of the reasons I chose this model.
I paid 100 for it as I really couldn’t bring myself to pay 200 for the 750D model.
Aside from the missing features that are advertised on amazon the clock/radio itself is really nice.
I was able to set it up without looking at the instructions (although I did read through them afterward to see if I could locate the USB or Bluetooth feature). The radio tuned with no issues: the sound is a little crackly but a reposition solved that.
First night sleeping with the sunset feature gave a pleasant yellow light decaying to red over 90minutes: with shorter time options being avalible as well.
This morning I had the sunrise feature activate over 90minutes. It seemed a very pleasant way to be woken up with the radio kicking in at the designated time.
Overall I’m impressed with the quality of the device with a little disappointment at the missing features. However I can’t warrant the money for the higher model.
I wouldn’t function in the mornings without this. I upgraded from a basic lumie light because I wanted to wake up to a more gentle alarm. I like that I can fall asleep to a noise that fades and eventually turns off when the sun has set. I also like the option of a night light which I haven’t used but would be a comfort when I’m home alone.
Some people have mentioned the instructions are difficult to follow. I set mine up during the day when I was fresh and managed ok. I especially like that I can have different alarm times for different days. Once it’s set up you don’t have to worry about setting different times. There’s also an option for just having a daily alarm.
If you struggle in the dark mornings this is defintely worth buying.
