I brought this as a Xmas present for my son . Well worth the money , he built it by himself no help needed , instructions easily followed ,sturdy and looks good . Woukd recommended
Although it took me the better part of my whole weekend with numerous breaks in between, I was able to successfully get my Pikachu up and running. Running motion was smoother than I expected.
It’s quite a fun little project to get on with when there’s not much else to be doing – I found it quite engaging and fun.
All parts were included thankfully, which I was concerned would not be the case as these types of building model toys usually have something missing.
Would be a great project to work with your children on if they haven’t already been introduced to the world of Pokemon.
Bought as an Xmas present for my teen and we’ve built it together over a good few hours. Great quality pieces and even though they’re very small, they’re easy to put together, all present and correct, even have a few spares. Motion works perfectly. It’s now on display. Overall a great quality item that I would definitely buy again.
This is a rather challenging build in part, thanks to the track mechanism, but patience is rewarded with a very impressive model at the end. It looks great on display and makes for a unique Pokemon collectable. )My nine year old daughter – a dextrous Lego fiend – gave up after repeated attempts on the track element, so take note if you’re buying this for younger children.)
So, after a month of fiddling about with this piece, I can safely say that I have survived without throwing in the towel.
This is by no means suitable for anyone easily triggered with pieces not going in, parts falling off, having to rebuild pikachu 3 times and the treadmill falling apart.
This was fun and therapeutic whilst also testing my patience at every clip and click of a not-so-Lego piece.
The package arrived on time and with plenty of cardboard wrappings to secure it into place (mind you it depends on the your local amazon crew how they want to package).
The actual box however was incredibly difficult to get into and only after destroying the box did I managed to get inside.
The instructions were fairly straightforward enough just that when it comes to clipping the head on I would suggest removing the two grey tubey things and sliding them into the head and then either sliding or clipping the head onto the body. I learnt this the hard way that the tubey things hate sliding into the holes.
The hardest part however is when you’re dealing with the elastic band, if you get that wrong then pikachu won’t move at all.
It was an experience to say the least and I can’t wait for my next Lego or not-so-Lego project.
I was worried because its not lego but was really impressed with the quality.
At the time of writing this review, the price for this MEGA Pokemon figure building is 63.99.
This Pokemon toy set is gifted to my friend’s son and he absolutely loves it. In fact, he has completed the build on the very same day of receiving the gift. The Pokemon set comes with more than 1000 pieces and is rated for kids aged 12 year+. I would say it is great for any Pokemon fans out there. The building quality is excellent, there is no missing part and the included instruction gives plenty of guides on how to build the Pokemon Figure. When it is fully completed, you can activate the Pokemon by turning the crank on the base and the Pokemon will start running, which is really cool. For around 60, it is a great gift idea for anyone you know who loves Pokemon.
My boy loves playing with building blocks. He spent a few hours building this Pikachu, but he had a lot of fun and now he has it on display on his bedroom. Beautiful design, nice and bright colours. Lightweight, sturdy and durable material. Not easy to dust but manageable.
Was a fun model to build and once built looks great.
The Pikachu set arrived safely, and it comes nicely packed inside a well-illustrated retail box. The set is 1092 pieces, is aimed at ages 12+, and it took me around 3 hours to build. The pieces are separated into different bags, and I found the assembly guide very well written, illustrated, and fairly easy to understand.
I had a lot of fun building this set and it can be quite challenging in some areas like lining up the gears or beams, and there are a lot of small pieces. When built I think it looks fantastic and all of the curved pieces help to make Pikachu look great!
Some areas of Pikachu can be adjusted such as the ears which are on ball joints and the electric sparks coming from its cheeks which can be repositioned. I love the base that Pikachu sits on, it’s a very cool design and gives it more a premium look.
When you turn the handle Pikachu begins to run, the running animation is really well done and the grass below his feet even moves on a conveyor belt which help to add to the realism and give him a better sense of movement. He can be left posed in any position which also adds to the personal feel of this set.
Overall, not only does this Pikachu set look fantastic when built but the motion operation works really well, and it offers a bit more entertainment value over a static set which doesn’t do anything. There is a lot of fun to be had building this set and its an excellent way of getting children into mechanical workings. It’s a set I’m more than happy to recommend for any Pokmon fan and I feel its easily worth the full five stars, buy with total confidence!
This Pokemon is an absolute unit to build. I haven’t even been able to start it as I’ve been extra busy with work and home life but I have opened up the box and there must be over 1000 pieces. It does look quite complicated to build and will definitely take ages to get it done but I’m sure it will look amazing once it is complete.
No doubts that this will be an amazing time to build with the family and I can’t wait to get started on it.
Buy it, and I’m 100% sure you will not regret it.
This is MEGA! The set comprises of 1,095 pieces in total, and the finished Pikachu measures at an impressive 8.9 inches long. But we are nowhere near this stage, I am 40 and my hubby is 35 and this has left us scratching our heads on a few nights now! I think if a 12 year old could build this by themselves they definitely deserve a medal. There are so many yellow pieces It’s like some kind of torture puzzle. The set is well made and the instructions are in-depth. But I think it is too complex for the average model builder.
This is a (L*** technic ALIKE) quality model of an adorable running motion Pikachu.
My daughter and her partner were both massive fans of the whole Pokmon Go craze and spent many days and evening prowling all over the town and county trying to improve their standings.
We were amazed at the time because up until the game came out we couldn’t get either of them out of the house without an argument!
The trouble is although she would dearly love to have this large scale finished working ornament / toy, never in a thousand years would she be able to assemble it, her partner might but he works long hours and would struggle to find the time. So I am building it for them!
My partner and I both enjoy crafting and model making in one form or another and between us we can pretty much tackle anything.
When you open the box it is pretty overwhelming initially at least, then on closer examination you realise someone has actually really thought this through for a change.
All of the over 1000 parts are packaged in smaller, separate numbered bags to correspond with the full colour, very clear instructions. Breaking the whole process down into more manageable chunks.
It says that it is suitable for children from the age of 12, I would say most 12 years olds might appreciate a little help at least at the outset so they understand how the build is compartmentalised to make it more manageable.
I have built a few technical wooden models of late and although there are more parts in this I have to admit I am happier with this than the wooden models, they have too many fragile parts that are all too easy to break, this in comparison is more robust.
I have no where near finished it yet but what I have together so far looks really good and I cant wait to see the finished article.
I have been impressed with the attention to detail right from the start and cant help but compare it to the trusted brand leader, with which it compares very, very well.
Unlike the brand leader you are not paying a premium for the brand, yes no doubt part of the price will be going in loyalties to the Pikachu franchise but not the construction materials as well, making this I think a very reasonably priced item at <80 (at time of review)
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!
Happy to help.
Sadly I haven’t had a chance to fully complete this yet, owing to work and other factors but I have made a decent start on it, so feel able to comment on the set itself.
The first thing you notice is how many pieces there are, 1000+ I believe, which, when coupled with the intricate mechanisms, means you need time to focus, and it’s probably for adults/older children.
While it can be tricky to assemble at some stages, the instructions are fantastic. The manual is as thick and glossy as a graphic novel with large, detailed, and colourful instructions. It could be clearer in places as some parts are very similar, and it doesn’t adequately differentiate between them (that’s my excuse for the couple of errors I had).
Another amazing quality-of-life thing is that the construction of the model is broken up into stages, and each stage has its own parts in a unique numbered bag, fourteen in total. This is really handy if you can’t commit to completing it in one go, you can work up to a specific stage and call it a day without having the later pieces lying around, they’re still in the bag.
The two issues I’ve encountered are a single missing piece from the first seven bags, just one half of a lighting bolt used the decorate the side, not a biggie but still disappointing. Also, the grass ‘belt’ that is meant to move when turning the crank doesn’t. It did initially, but you have to stick the front section and something went wrong when I did that, unfortunately, to fix it I’d probably have to take the whole thing apart, and I can’t be chewed with that.
Given it’s not finished yet, I can’t say if it looks good in the flesh but the parts I have constructed look amazing, and I’m 100% sure it’ll be a cracking sight when I finally get the thing finished.
It’s expensive at 70+, but the quality of pieces, care and attention that has gone into packaging/instructions make it more than worth it.
Great for any Pokemon fans, young or old, but as mentioned, younger children will probably struggle with building the thing as it’s so intricate.
A brilliant set for a Pokmon fan. My son is an adult now but still loves LEGO particularly the Technic range. This is complicated enough for him not to seem too babyish and to be able to spend a couple of hours actually enjoying the build without being difficult, nor taking just a few minutes.
He loves the fact that it’s mechanised too, just gives it that extra fun to the build and an extra dimension to the finished model. He just needs a place of his own now to keep and display all these models he’s accumulating !!!!
I am a huge Pokmon fan. This is an adult Pikachu building set. I greatly enjoyed making this Pikachu.
The set comes with 1092 bricks and pieces that fit well with each other.
All the pieces came in 14 large plastic bags. Some bags had 2 smaller bags inside. The quality of the pieces is amazing.
It took me a rather long time to build this completely.
The instructions were quite detailed and made the process easy.
When completed, the Pikachu runs quite fast.
All in all, this is a good product to keep one busy. Satisfied.
Would recommend
Whether you are a fan of the franchise or not and whether you walk the streets in the pouring rain playing the game on your phone, or not, you have to admit this is rather awesome.
Never mind the couple of hours of fun ( in our case) putting it together, at the end of it you have the world famous Pikachu able to move in front of your eyes!
This is not cheap but it is made of good materials, superb fun and looks amazing on completion.
Money well spent .
My son and I love to build stuff like this, we do a lot of Lego models.
It is definitely a bit more fiddly than the Lego builds we have done, there are so many parts, but the instructions are clear, and there are many separate bags so you don’t get overwhelmed with parts all around you. The downside to having so many bags, is that it does create plastic waste.
It takes a very long time to build and some parts can be frustrating, but overall me and my son really enjoyed building it.
When it is finished, you get a fantastic looking Pikachu that runs across the grass when you turn the handle at the back.
It is fantastic quality and cheaper than Lego. They do a range of different Pokemon and I think we will get more.
For any type of brick building toy it’s expensive so I actually think 70 for this isn’t that bad as it has the mechanics for movement. Came in a big box and has a lot of pieces, I can’t wait to gift this.
I was never into Pokmon but I do have to admit that Pikachu is very cute and these sorts of puzzles are perfect for me to help with my manual dexterity and concentration issues.
However this one is taking me much longer to complete for those same reasons but it is immensely satisfying going from bag to bag not making mistakes.
The instruction book is much like the others and easy to follow and pretty detailed meaning any mistakes made will be from not getting the exact piece it tells you that you need, this also means it is easily fixable when you notice the problem.
With almost 1100 bricks I would guestimate that I am about half way there and cannot wait to see how he looks running when complete, I think the price is a little steep (71) but this particular model seems aimed more at collectors than players anyway so it may be seen as a reasonable price in those circles.
Considering the effort being put in and how much fun it is (some may find it frustrating if impatient) and my desire to see the finished Pikachu running like crazy I would recommend this set for die hard Pokmon fans and patient curious kids/adults who love building projects.
This Pikachu set was an absolute joy to build, it’s not complicated at all, it just takes patience and a lot of spare time. The instruction booklet is huge and is all large print so it’s clear and easy to see what piece you need. There’s lots of space between the images and at the end of each little section there’s an image of how the current build should look like which is really helpful.
There’s 14 large bags of bricks and some have two smaller bags inside, but the bags are so big there’s a lot of wasted plastic. Each bag is completed before moving onto the next which makes searching for the right pieces a doddle.
Apart from bag 8 and 10, there’s a few spares at the end of each bag too, which results in plenty of spares at the end of the build, and important pieces like the orange band have spares.
When pieces are the same shape but different sizes, the instructions even have a size key to point out which piece is the right one. There’s temporary pieces that are used to support that specific part of the build in two different sections.
The most challenging part of the build for me was when attaching the legs to the body in order to get them running correctly and the whole build takes quite some time so did a few bags at a time.
The set looks amazing when built and being able to make Pikachu run is fun too.
This was a very enjoyable build. I was slightly hoping it was going to be larger when it arrived and I saw the base plate I was building on but when it’s complete it’s a good size. I love pokemon and especially Pikachu and this build is fun and life-like. You get a large full-coloured manual with step-by-step instructions for building your creation. All the blocks are compatible with all other Mega blocks and I am a huge mega fan who has also recently built some He-Man builds.
When you have completed Pikachu then you have a great fun feature and that’s the hand crank which when you turn makes Pikachu run on his legs and feet. No batteries are needed, it’s all done through a mechanism you build as you go through the build. Even the tail moves. It’s a great bit of engineering from Mega and a great build for the Pokemon fans out there.
This review is for the MEGA Pokmon Motion Pikachu mechanized toy building set, 1092 bricks and pieces, poseable limbs.
Nice well made product arrived well packaged and on time. Good quality bricks and great fun to build. Would recommend.
My 9 yr-old son hasn’t put together a Lego , but i thought he would like it.
He’s fond of Pokmon, especially Pikachu, so I think he’ll enjoy using it to decorate his room
Mega constructs make some great sets, like this one.
It’s a nice size, a sturdy set.
You must keep in mind they aren’t as enjoyable to assemble as Lego.
They are a harder snap, and really tuff to pull apart.
Once assembled is a really nice toy.
Am genuinely torn on what score to give this.
So here are the things. On the plus side:
~ I love Pikachu way more than any adult should. In my defense, Pokemon came out when I was a kid and I loved Pikachu from the jump and anything you loved as a kid will always have big nostalgia value
~ what you get it legitimately impressive; there are like a thousand tiny pieces that you need to put together
~ from the product video, the end result looks amazing. I want one.
But on the other hand:
~ I cannot, for the life of me, make head nor tail of how to build the thing. I don’t know if my brain isn’t wired the right way but, argh! I’ve never really done stuff with lego or anything, and I struggled dreadfully with a build-it clock I got a few months ago so it’s possible I’m just not able to do this sort of spatial building… but it says it’s for 12 years old and up so that’s embarrassing. You basically get loads (hundreds) of pieces of plastic in numbered bags, and then you get some fairly detailed but incredibly complicated instructions. It’s completely overwhelming. What’s worse is they’re pretty much all yellow! It’s like trying to do a jigsaw where all the pieces are one solid colour.
It may just be that it’ll take a long time to work through it, but I sort of assumed an hour or so would have it done. Absolutely not! It’s like the worst, most complicated, most fiddly piece of IKEA furniture you ever received.
I don’t want to give it less than 4 stars because the problem might be mine… but at the same time, I just can’t imagine anyone of 12 being able to do this. Mind you, most 12 years olds can text faster than I can and are probably better at gaming (my gaming skills end at Final Fantasy VII and Soul Blade – anything more complicated than that and I’m out) so maybe 12 year old brains are better at this than mine.
But I am a very, very eager customer; I want my own Pikachu that will run on the spot (this is probably as close as we’ll ever get to have an actual real life Pikachu) so I’m going to persist with this. It’s too cute not to, and am thinking the sense of achievement at the end will be worth the bother in and of itself.
All of which to say: if your 12 years old is a budding engineer or has a way with Mechano, this is an incredible buy. But for most people, I think this may be a little too complex and time-consuming. But if you have the time, and you want to wile away many an evening building your own adorable wee Pikachu, it’s highly, highly recommended.
This is a great Pikachu Mega model kit to make it is for older children or adults (or younger with adult help) as it is somewhat complex to build in places, with small parts, there are parts that look very similar to one another and some parts need a bit of strength or dexterity to assemble/push together.
The instructions are well laid out in a large brightly coloured book with clear drawings, for parts that can be confused the instructions highlight which parts are correct. Each of the 14 bags is used up before moving onto the next which helps keep the building under control rather than having a huge amount of parts to search though you know the parts you need are in one bag.
Once built the movement mechanism works very well and Pikachu runs across his base with the grass flowing past his feet, it really is a clever design.
It makes a large model which weighs in at 732g when completed.
I have a couple of issues with it though:
The mechanism uses a stretched rubber ring in its construction. I hope this will last a long time without breaking as to get inside to replace it (I got a spare in the kit) means disassembling quite a lot of Pikachu and looks to be a complete pain.
Although it is good that the bags only have a small quantity of parts in each, as this helps with building. It does mean that you have a lot of plastic waste at the end.
Despite these issues, the price at 50 for what you get is reasonable (if it was Lego you would it would be closer to 100), it’s getting 5*. I think it looks and works great and any Pokemon or building block fan will enjoy putting this together.
I was surprised at how heavy the box was at first. But that’s because the instructions are…..well…they’re a lot. They are very comprehensive though, and each bag is numbered so you can do it in the correct order. The quality of the pieces is very good, and the movement section is very responsive. It looks great too and is good fun to assemble, but tricky in places too.
