While the Oral-B iO8 toothbrush offers many impressive features, one area where it falls short is its battery life. As a user of this toothbrush, I have found the battery life to be disappointing and inconvenient.

One of the main issues I have encountered with the Oral-B iO8 toothbrush is that the battery tends to drain relatively quickly. Even with a full charge, I have found that the toothbrush often needs to be recharged after just a few days of use. This can be frustrating, especially when traveling or on-the-go, as it requires frequent recharging, which can be inconvenient and time-consuming.

Another issue I have experienced is that the battery life seems to decline over time. While the toothbrush initially held a charge for a reasonable amount of time, after several months of use, I noticed a significant decrease in battery performance. This has resulted in more frequent recharging, which can be frustrating and disrupt my oral care routine.

Oral-B iO8 toothbrush has many positive features, its battery life has been a significant drawback. The need for frequent recharging, declining battery performance over time, and challenges with the charging process have been inconveniences that have impacted the overall user experience. Improvements in battery life and charging system would greatly enhance the usability and convenience of this toothbrush.

Previously I had a “standard ” oral b electronic brush. It did a great job, basic on or off but it cleaned my teeth….or so I thought.
Decided on a low mood day to treat myself, to look after myself. Bought this heavy working machine of a creation.
Even after the first use, I felt my teeth where cleaner than they have ever been at home. 2 minutes and I felt totally clean, more than a full 2 sets on my old brush, 4 minutes.
This brush has different settings depending in the preferred style of finish your after. Daily Clean, Sensitive, Gum Care, Intense Clean, Whitening, Super Sensitive. Feels like a menu at a dentist but all at your hands control.
And you do honestly feel its doing the job you set it too. I go for whitening majority of the time and already over 2 weeks ish, I see a difference. No change in toothpaste, no change in amount brushing, this is doing a superior job. I enjoy brushing, it isn’t the chore you must do as you wake up or before you can sleep. It’s something I enjoy to then check the results end of the week.
Feels its loosening some long stuck on plaque too (no dentist for a while due to the….virus).
Another strange but sign on the times, Bluetooth connectivity to your phone via a app.
I can see what areas I am brushing, be shown if I’ve done a zone enough (no individual tooth detection this generation but who knows in a few years) . It’ll show me if I’ve improved my technique via timers. I feel this would be highly valuable to children learning or even those with different mental levels, it helps but it shows rather than tell.
This is a huge step for me in brushing. Another level up for any self care routine. Might but a bit costly to most(me included) but I see it as a investment in ME. I deserve better health wherever I can obtain it. I think you do too dear reader, you deserve to look after yourself too.

I do love this toothbrush. The different settings (see video for reference) are amazing and it’s a lot quieter than any other electric toothbrush I’ve owned. I wouldn’t pay the full price however but managed to get this on an offer. The normal retail price seems ridiculous for a toothbrush! I’ve only used this twice so can’t say much for battery life or how it is over time but at the moment I love it! I can see it would be quite good for kids too, maybe on the gentle/sensitive setting, as the iPhone app shows you where you have and haven’t brushed on a moving graphic until it comes up that you have cleaned all areas thoroughly. This was quite exciting for me, even as an adult, to watch and also brush for the full 2 minutes as it times you as well. It comes with a 2 pin charger, travel bag, toothbrush head holder (for two toothbrush heads) and then the actual toothbrush handle and head so would make a nice gift set! I would recommend this but try and get it on an offer as it’s stupidly expensive otherwise.

    Fantastic but overpriced

Fantastic toothbrush, but I bought mine when it was something like 67% off – no way would I pay full price. Having said that it really is a fantastic toothbrush, ignore the phone app gimmick.

Absolutely love it. The best electric toothbrush I ever had and for the price I bought it (was less than half price) looks like a bargain. The feeling after brushing my teeth is like I just left my hygienist.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersYes, the price is high and I’ll admit that for the amount paid, I’m not wowed by this toothbrush. I’m glad I changed from my old Philips one, but I honestly think I could have benefitted just as much from an older oral-b model.

    I’ll start with the good:
    – really cleans teeth well. This was hugely noticeable from the first brush. For me, the rotating heads clean much better than the pulsing heads of another brand.
    – it charges really quickly. Just a few hours and it’s fully charged
    – the different settings are handy. I like to switch between mainly daily care, whitening and gum care, so I feel like I get a good all-round clean
    – being able to monitor which parts of the mouth have been cleaned well and which needs more work on is handy (using the app). Saying that, I only used this feature the first few times. I don’t want to be staring at my phone each time I brush my teeth.
    – the pressure lights are clear so it’s easy to see when I’m brushing too gently or too hard.

However, there are bad points I can’t ignore:
    – it’s so loud! Even the sensitive setting is loud, but the intense one is something else.
    – the charge only lasts a week. I know that’s not terrible, but I’m used to having 3 weeks’ charge with older brushes so I’m not impressed.
    – it might just be me, but I find it so dribbly! I’ve never had this issue before with any brush, but towards the end of the 2 minutes it’s just dripping! Even with a change of heads it still does the same and it’s driving me batty.
    – the brush heads are difficult to clean. I detach the head and run it under water after ever brush, but it doesn’t fully clean where there’s a little gap towards the top.
    – brush heads are crazily expensive. I know it’s the same for most brushes, but these really are pricey.

Overall, this is still a great toothbrush and I’ve noticed my teeth look much better after using this, hence the 4 stars still. However, a toothbrush this price should be near-perfect and this just isn’t. I’ll keep using it till the day it dies (which I hope is a long way away), but I’ll be less tempted by one with all the bells and whistles in the future.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersDefinitely notice a big difference using this tooth brush compared to the cheaper electric oral b toothbrush. Does a fantastic job of cleaning my teeth. The Bluetooth connectivity is great. It’s a much harder brush than the cheaper oral b toothbrush which is fine imo but the battery only lasts about 6 days if you are lucky. I brush twice a day for about 2 and a half minutes. Fortunatly charges in about 3hrs

I bought this to replace one of the older generation Oral B brushes. The biggest improvement I can see is their new larger and longer bristle brush head which does a better job cleaning and it seems more robust to last longer than their smaller heads. However, I am not convinced the Ai technology of these brushes are too that they claim. Also the brush heads are so much more expensive than the older ones. I will see how I get on but generally better designed but am not sure if the extra cost is justified.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI bought this after having extensive treatment on my teeth. I have to say my teeth do feel really clean. Battery life is ok, but my problem is the 2 pin plug. Why? Seems very old fashion to me. Took my brush with me on hols to Spain, fully charged, run out on day 9, but maybe I am naive, but thought the 2 pin charger would fit the plugs in Spain, it didn’t so had to use manually for the rest of my hols. Why don’t they do a USB charging system. Would make sense. I bought this last year in the Amazon sale, couldn’t have afforded it otherwise. App is easy to use.

I had been using a standard oral b toothbrush for the last year and a half before using this. The difference is night and day. The clean from this brush is amazing. My teeth feel polished and my mouth super fresh. The app is just okay… but I bought this not intending to use it. The screen displays ur charge so that you never run out of battery. The charge on the io 8 is not as good as my cheaper oral b however being able to see the charge makes this not an issue. The io head is also far better than any other I have used.
Overall an expensive purchase but an invetment worth making in my opinion.

I’ve had several electric toothbrushes over my lifetime – Oral-B pre-2014 before switching to Sonicare. After going through three of the latter in quick succession I decided to give Oral-B iOS 8 a try and I haven’t looked back. A superior clean to any electric toothbrush before. Just wow. Can’t recommend enough.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI like how light it is compared to my previous oral b electric toothbrush
Im really dissapointed considering the cost of this, that within 4/5 months the battery dies very quickly even when not using the Bluetooth and using once a day. Im fed up of this happening so I am contacting oral B directly as I am unable to return to the seller at this stage. Id say its NOT worth the money. Im always very honest in a review but Im struggling to see how or why this is worth the money

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersNot been a fan of Oral B in the past – Toothbrushes I’ve had don’t have much battery life and don’t last long at all (give them a year or so before you have to charge them after every brush!) preferred Sonicare toothbrushes for a long time.

This one is the complete opposite. Long battery life, great options of intensity, and an all round great clean feeling after each brush.

My only niggle is I always disconnect the brush and rinse the main unit and the inside of the brush connection as the seal isn’t as solid as other brushes, so you avoid build up in the unit.

I bought this as an upgrade to my oral b 9000 genius toothbrush that I had been using for years. It was work out the battery was shot so I decided to upgrade.
This toothbrush is very expensive at full retail. Almost 500. It’s NOT worth that at all.

Some would argue it’s not worth 150 which is what I paid for it.

I was happy with it for that price but I wouldn’t have paid anymore for i

Decent battery life, 3hr charging time , Easy to use it’s definitely worth the money and I’m happy with the functionality and it is an upgrade for me from a 4 year old Genius 9000

I got this as an upgrade from the oral b 9000 as that stopped working. At first uts works different to the old one but i have to say once i got used to it, it seems to work better an the app to show you how you brushing is cool. But in all fairness i only used the app to check it out not something i would really use. The display is something different an can change the light colour to suit you.

I like that at the end it shows you with a face if you have brushed well or not.

Defo worth the buy if you want a good thorough clean to keep your pearly whites white

The only gripe i have is i think the oral b 9000.had a better battery life i will charge this once a week

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersI am writing my opinion about this product after having had a Phillips Sonicare electric toothbrush for about 5 years, and I have decided to upgrade (as it was difficult to clean the distal surfaces of my molars).

    Pros:
    – very easy to use, straightforward
    – as expected, last gen technology that offers you a superior clean
    – simple app to track your brushing
    – quiet device
    – good indicator of pressure

Cons (oh boy, here they come):
    – shorter handle than what I was used with before, about 2inches (/4-5cm) difference, which for me is an inconvenience
    – annoying use of app, makes you stay glued to your phone while brushing and checking how you’re doing + the sensors are not 100% accurate, so for example when I was brushing my lower right side was appearing as brushing my lower left side, which of course gives your brushing off track as there are 20 secs or so, allocated for each sextant of your mouth, so you may end resulting in not having all your teeth evenly cleaned
    – the handle’s grip is horrible, at least for the white version, 1st time using it I had a terrible time as I had toothpaste all over the sink and on my phone…trying to catch the handle, that was slidding, while also looking at my brushing
    – about the extra stuff that you can add, I agree with the tongue cleaning and flossing, however the mouthwash should be used at a different time than brushing (this comes from a dental practitioner), and this is because the toothpaste has already a high amount of fluoride and by using a mouthwash you are washing that away, as most mouthwashes have a lower concentration + they should have advised to not rinse after you finish your brushing routine
    – many people have complained about the battery, and I agree, it is not great, my other electric toothbrush had a life of about 2-3 weeks, while with the iO8 it has about 7 days (2x/day)
    – AND THE MAGNETIC CHARGER!! it is less stable than the regular one I had before… I tried placing it on the carpet, as I was doing this usually, and the toothbrush would not stay at all! The charger is so light and the magnet is very weak; so the only way to charge it is on a flat surface (kitchen worktop)
    – I was so used before to having a timed brushing, and that the electric toothbrush stops by itself. It took me a few tries until I managed to see how long I actually need, as 2 mins 30 secs were not enough anymore, and I struggled to press the off button while having dribbling toothpaste all over my hand. But it makes sense, as everyone is different and you can’t actually put a timer for everyone, giving you the freedom to make the brushing for how long you want it to be *this is more of a neutral point*

Overall, I am happy with the product, the app works, the rotating head does an amazing job, even for the molars, so you will obtain a superior clean.
I am still adjusting with this product, definitely need to brace myself for my teeth workout in the morning which lasts about 3 minutes now; but seeing my medals pile up is something…
Honestly, I was expecting more from a product that is worth 450 RRP, thus I am happy that I spent only 140 on it, would not have paid the full price ever!!!

If you are concerned about having an excellent clean and do not mind investing in this product, then it is the right choice for you, however do not expect miracles, it does the job but there is room for improvement.

Quite expensive for what it is and the brushes are way too expensive, having said that it does clean your teeth quite well. Original price 450 I don’t think so! 54 for 4 brushes wow! But always buy half price. All Oral b are usually half price or so they say.

  24. KristiaMaxie says:

I have now had the toothbrush for approximately 1 month and I can say that I totally love it. I had the Oral B Genius 9000 before and whilst that was a great toothbrush (had it for 3 years), this is definitely much better. I had my teeth whitened 4-5 years ago and lately I was thinking to have them done again as they were not looking as bright as they used to. After purchasing this toothbrush, I just feel my teeth so much cleaner and whiter. It is an expensive toothbrush but if you manage to find it on sale, it is definitely a great product and worth purchasing.

I have not connected it to my phone as I am not sure that’s something I would have time to track so that is not something I could talk about but I love the fact that it has a timer on it which indicates how long you should be brushing your teeth for.

The battery lasts for over two weeks (almost three) whilst using it at least twice daily.

Okay, not cheap by any means, but on Black Friday sale (like I got mine) they were a superb purchase and I could not be happier.

Replaced an older Oral B model and I have to say the improvement is massive. So much quieter in use, looks better, body is a little thinner and more comfortable, screen and controls are nicer, the magnetic charging is excellent, and the brush heads do an absolutely superb job.

Well worth it if on an offer, but IMO no brush could ever be worth the full RRP. (Same for the ultra-expensive heads…)

  26. Anonymous says:

I thought this toothbrush was a little overpriced but now I’ve been using it for a week I consider it money well spent. Different settings for intensity Of clean are useful and the colour changing rings to identify when you’re pushing too hard are also a valuable inclusion. The brush is stylish and holds it charge for at least 21 days and the app is engaging too.

  27. Christina L says:

I’m not sure if it is worth 450, but definitely worth 150! For the former I would expect to be able to rest the head against my gums and via osmosis to vaccinate my entire mouth and never have to visit the hygienist ever again. Such technology doesn’t exist yet! However, this is the best electric toothbrush I have ever used and an exponential improvement on original electric brushes. Almost as chastening as going to the hygienis

I’ve always found it difficult to brush correctly , where I’ve used cheaper electronic toothbrushes or manual brushes. But after using this electronic toothbrush I was blown away at how good it was.

The Oral B app guiding you during brushing, plus the quality of the brush has significantly improved my oral hygiene in a matter of days. My teeth are white, as if I’ve had a professional clean with a hygienist.

I have been using the IO 8 for a few weeks now. I must say that I am very impressed. The phone app is superb. I really makes you clean ALL your teeth. I like the feature where you can set a reminder to replace the toothbrush head after 3 months. So easy to forget.

The toothbrush itself is very smart-looking. It even shows when it is day or night in the display panel.

Though not the cheapest of toothbrushes, it is a worthy purchase.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI have been using another manufacturers toothbrush and just wasn’t happy with it. Bought the Oral B one, my favourite colour. Took me a day to get used to it, very simple and easy to use App. Having not been able to go to the dentist due to the current restrictions I was desperate to see what it was like. The toothbrush is slightly bigger to the Oral B toothbrush I had years ago but I soon got used to it. Several different settings, including whitening. After a few days I can honestly say I can feel the difference on my teeth. I am not saying they are perfectly clean but hoping this will come after more use. I think using this and getting back to hopefully regular visits to the dentist will see an improvement to my teeth and gums. Would I recommend it? Yes they are expensive but it’s my teeth..so yes I am happy and would recommend it.

  31. LeoraMcLerie says:

Yes its expensive. but having used it for 6 months, and having a visit to the hygienist, been a smoker and tea drinker, my hygienist asked me if i had cut down smoking or stopped drinking tea..Genuinely. It does have a larger head than my previous oral B electric brush, but i guess it does clean far better, according to my hygienist, and she was off to check them out, with a view to getting one, so ill go with that.

  32. TXDJuneuqh says:

We have used the brush for a week now, to date only on ‘daily’ and ‘intense’ cleans. Both do a very good job, especially the intense clean. The App, although a little gimmicky, does help to ensure that you are cleaning all areas of your mouth equally. As other people have noted, the brush can get a little slippery when wet, and I’m surprised the company did not notice this during development.
It is much better than our previous Oral B brush, and although expensive, seems a good investment – many people will pay a lot more for items, which they use a lot less frequently, I am sure.

Golden Review Award: 35 From Our UsersI immediately noticed the improved clean over my old Sonicare brush, which is good because I was unsure whether to buy another Sonicare or switch to this. I’ve used OralB electric brushes a decade ago and this model is much improved. The brush head now moves much faster so it has a vibrating effect like Sonicare. My teeth immediately felt “dentist clean” compared to the Sonicare.

I initially thought the pressure light would be annoying (blue for too light, green for good, red for too much pressure) but it’s actually very easy to keep it steady green and it alerts you when you need to ease off a little.

I also like the LCD screen, mainly because it shows brush time and if you glance it in the mirror is easy to see how long you’ve been brushing for.

The charger is also far superior to the Sonicare. The magnetic base holds the brush handle in place and doesn’t require any additional plastic inserts.

There are a few cons, some related to the brush, some to other things.
    – The end of the brush shaft is quite wide so feels a bit odd when you’re going in to the back of your mouth. A bit of a mouthful I suppose.
    – The brushing action is quite harsh initially. I had painful gums while I got used to it. The less aggressive settings are no less painful to begin with. Fine now, but initially not great.
    – The brush heads are comically expensive.
    – There is no travel case included as standard. Sonicare included a hard case that charged the brush directly from USB, for no extra cost. That was incredibly handy and I felt a travel case should have been bundled in at this price. With this you just get a fabric pouch and storage box for 2 heads. You have to take the full standard charging cable with you.
    – The pricing practices across the iO range are absurd and should be illegal. The vast majority of people will not need anything more than the iO7. However at the time of purchase this was given some mad 400 price tag, while the iO8 was 200. Also with the iO7 having no colour options it is clearly a ploy to get people to buy the iO8, when the iO7 should be more like 150.

Overall an excellent clean. I’ve tried the Bluetooth functionality. It works well but in my opinion is a bit of a single use gimmick, unless you’re extremely observant of your tooth brushing practices.

All things aside, again I can’t knock the cleaning ability. However in hindsight I’d have chosen something else because I disagree with the dishonest and misleading pricing practices. A travel case should be included with all models and the iO7 should be priced at the real RRP (not some fantasy 400) to give people a choice of models and also to not allow them to be mislead into thinking they’re getting a huge bargain when the price drops to where it should be.

Can’t fault the toothbrush itself. Definitely leaves your mouth feeling cleaner than a manual toothbrush. The app on the other hand, not as impressive. Stores data but when you try to use the part which tracks where you’re brushing, it’s quite unreliable and sometimes frustrating. Overall worth the on sale price of 179.99, wouldn’t pay 449.

  35. Christina L says:

     United Kingdom

If you use the app the clean you get is superb. Why? It encourages you to spend longer. Without the app, the clean is a bit better than my 5 year old Oral B Triumph. Definitely the quietest brush I’ve owned and battery life for me goes well beyond 2 weeks. Like the LCD screen too and the range of modes, some very useful and effective. Overall, expensive but I recommend it.

UPDATE 2 YEARS ON: After long term use I have to say the toothbrush no longer charges well , nor does it last. The clean, although good is no better than my Sonicare 6100. As a result I shall be ditching my Oral B.

There is no doubt that the iO series of toothbrushes are a step up from the normal electric toothbrush. Having used one, you come away feeling that your teeth have been really well cleaned. You even get used to the battery life lasting only 5 days. Like a mobile, you just charge it up when necessary. Not a big effort ! However, no-one in their right mind is going to spend 500 for a toothbrush no matter how good so do shop around as they become at least half price ! Features are great and easy to use. The construction and materials used are excellent.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is aclot of money to pay for a toothbrush, but honestly its worth it! The app is great for telling you how well you have done and for keeping you motivated to really clean your teeth all over! It is also very quiet and does a fantastic job of cleaning your teeth , just like the dentist hygienist does! Higley recommended, especially when on offer. The IO8 is the same as the IO9 but the sensor for the app is zoned by area of the mouth rather than individual teeth. This works very well on the IO8 and therefore it is not worth the extra cost for the IO9 in my view.
