Philips recommend changing the blades every two years, of course after that time one notices the difference.
I bought some cheaper versions of these once… They were less effective than the ones I wanted to replace
Always bought genuine ones since and never had as close a shave
Picture is misleading as you are expecting to get the blades and surround as one unit. But you only get the blades and would be cheaper in the long run to just buy a new shave
Good product bit pricey for what it is but cheaper than a new shave
This is now a discontinued make, but I managed to obtain the correct shaving heads. Previously I received from you a substitute which was very poor.
Used it to replace my old shaver head very good value
Very fast delivery, packaged well, very smooth shave husband didn’t realise how used the old heads were until he fitted new heads.
This is the second set of new blades have bought for my razor. The previous ones lasted the whole 2 years as advertised & gave a very good shave.
Had my electric shaver blades for at least 10 years – this Phillips push for a change every two years is rubbish, however, mine were knackered after 10 years. I looked at lots of reviews and decided it was best to buy genuine Phillips replacements. They are excellent – and they bloody well should be for the price. Shave is much closer like the old days and also quicker so let battery live used. So overall a good buy and the razor feels like new. Not fully 5 stars as they are expensive but if they last at least 5 years that is good value.
Expensive, but genuine supplier. Easy to fit. Should last the recommended two years – used to be one year, but I can’t spot any product difference.
Everything including the price was right, identical to how I expected design and quality feel, initially the first few shaves were not perfect but having had maybe 12 shaves it felt bedded in and running more efficiently, always clean out everyday, but occasionally I forget tbh, now I can say I am 100% satisfied with replacement, don’t forget to reset the shaver because it warns you to change the head by a small red indicator periodically
Not as good as the original blades do not shave as well.
Thankfully, they fitted absolutely correctly! No problem. Certainly saves buying a whole new razor!
They look unexpectedly matt in finish – expected them to look shinier, as the originals look shinier, but they fit and they work and my skin is as good as it was before I started using them. If the time comes to replace them again I’ll probably buy through the Philips official web store just too see if the finish is the same when coming from Philips directly. The price is certainly similar, though without Prime Delivery.
This is an expensive item but I tried a cheaper ‘copy’ previously which was useless. This genuine Philips item is very good and the shave is much better (incidentally I use the wet technique with s little gel and this improves effectiveness). The only downer is that it costs nearly half the cost of a new shaver!
Genuine product. The head that this replaced lasted a number of years. I would rather pay a little more for a cutter head that cuts well and lasts a long time, than a generic one that does not offer the quality of this product. Well packaged, prompt delivery (overnight) and no issues fitting. Recommended product.
Hi, at the beginning i bought a 3rd party half price same product. And it felt like one of them machines your missus have that plucks hairs… so payed extra for this little shave head, and ohh its like brand new again. So warning in advance, dont buy the cheaper budget version that claims its as good as original… Oh and this model inside is orange, dont get scared thats just better newer model.
The new head was adequate for it’s duty. No more or less than I expected. Be assured, had it been otherwise, I would have been contacting you for corrective action.
After about 10 years of use, I decided that it was time to change the blades, the old ones were somewhat okay but felt the shave could be better. The new blades are better. However as is often the case, the price was expensive for the one part of the razor that is consumable and 2 changes of the blades would equal the price of a brand new razor! hence 4 stars for price.
I write this review through gritted teeth, as Philips would clearly prefer that you buy a whole new shaver rather than replace the blades. These are very much priced to put you off, and offer poor value for money at RRP. Having said that, there’s nothing wrong with my shaver so I didn’t want to create more waste by buying a whole new one. These new blades work well and made me realise just how blunt my old ones had got – no more tugging and razor bumps from longer hairs.
A good product with an absurd price.
The difference is so noticeable it was worth the outlay. I just have to hope now that the battery keeps going for a couple of more years.
It should not be surprising how much of an improvement a new set of Lift and Cut heads can make to the shaving experience with an old Philips HQ6990 Close Cut shaver. Shaving time has reduced from between two and three minutes with a reasonable result to just over one minute for a much better close finish, and still no irritation.
These are genuine Philips parts with the dual-edge blades on the rotors and the correct slightly oblique angle of the slots in the stators for best cut. I binned some cheap clones that claimed to be compatible but were useless when tried.
I had already extended the life of the previous Philips blades slightly by cleaning the pivot hole with a 2.5mm drill, this tiny bit of extra depth helps the cutters continue gliding close to the slots instead of lifting away as they wore down.
Note that these Lift and Cut rotors are the proper dual blades, and much better than the Close Cut single blade rotors also from Philips.
It is a shame all the reviews for different Philips cutters and assemblies have been mixed up on this page, making it difficult to find relevant reviews for the cutters suitable for one’s own shaver.
I was deliberating whether to get an original philips part, or go for a cheaper alternative, and I opted for this. It is an original part which i was relieved about, and it did bring my razor back to life again after not changing the cutters for several years. shaving is now quicker and closer, so very happy.
Dropped 1 star because they are stupidly expensive .
The correct part, so fits perfectly, as good as new. If I’d known I could switch off the blade renewal reminder light just by holding down the power button, I wonder if I’d have bothered – not sure I can notice any difference between the new blades and the old ones…
I was contemplating upgrading my RQ1260 shaver that I have now had for around 4 years – but then I saw that the blades themselves have been updated. Admittedly they are expensive at 60, but with the cost of a new shaver anything upwards of say 200, I decided to upgrade the blades! Very impressed. Simply able to swap them over in a matter of seconds. I know that a few reviews having commented on how difficult it can be to remove them to clean them. I have no such problems as I use the cleaning fluid in the Jet Clean & Charge which I had when I bought the shaver. Highly recommended
This is a good shaving head, gives a nice cut and feels nice on my face. However it is not the same head as was on my original razor even though this is advertised (by Philips) as being the correct replacement. To clean this one you need to pop off the top and wash it whereas my original head had 3 heads that popped open independently to clean but remained in one piece. It still fits into the charging/ cleaning unit so I kept it.
Fast forward to 3 years later and it barely cuts, it takes 10-15 minutes to shave going over and over the same areas. I finally admit it’s blunt and look around. Long story short I bit the bullet and went for the replacement head despite the cost.
Ran it over my neck this morning and I’m done in 1 minute. You really don’t realise how bad something has gotten when it slowly deteriorates until you get a brand new experience. It’s great!
Only 4 stars because it is expensive for what it is.
Exactly as expected! I would recommend to all!
As with most people I rely upon reviews and seller feedback when making purchases online and therefore every review I write is fair and accurate. I am totally independent, and not involved or related to the company. If you require any answers to questions, please ask!
If after a period of time, my opinion on the item changes, I always update the review, especially if durability in not as thought.
If you have found the review useful, I would appreciate if you please tick the box below, to know that my reviews are helping others to choose products, and to encourage me to give up my time to write these product reviews
FYI, these packs don’t just contain the blades, but also the micro-holed casing that rubs against your skin. I wasn’t sure if that would be the case until I opened the packet.
The primary difference between the two heads is the way cleaning is carried out. On the RQ12/50, each cutter was individually hinged to the main body giving easy access to both the shavings and the blade. On the RQ12/60, all 3No cutters are attached to the upper half of the shaving head and is lifted off the main body in one piece giving access to the shavings. To access the blades, you need to use the supplied grip to remove the individual plastic ring which secures the blades. I found this to be more fiddly than accessing the blades on the RQ12/50 and as a result, this product got only 4 stars. This to me appears to be a cost cutting exercise by Phillips – profits before customers???
Putting aside the blade access issues, the performance of the shaving head is the same as the RQ12/50 and does produce a close shave with very little effort and irritation on the skin. Good product.
This gives an excellent shave but I have deducted a star as my RQ1095 shaver will no longer fit the charging pod or cleaning bath with this shaver head fitted. As the shaver body has no charging socket the only way to charge is to place the shaver in the cleaning bath and not use the cleaning cycle. If away from home the shaver cannot be charged unless they whole shaving head is removed so that they body will fit into the charging pod. Overall a retrograde move by Philips which has left me with redundant parts and bottles of unused cleaning fluid. Not impressed.
Item arrived 2 day’s early which is a good plus and had a good look at the philips website and head because it came in a plain package but was properly sealed and I’m happy.I shaved with the head and shaved in 2-3 mins a lot faster than my (replaced 2.6 year old head which was 10min and left with a rash) A good reason to change every 2 year’s a fast and rash free shave also very close shave too.I also like the price a lot cheaper than most sellers I do not believe in the cost of everything as the true cost is much much lower than the Mfr’s price.
I reluctantly bought this RQ/12 replacement. The bad reviews are completely wrong. If anything this is better than the original. The main difference is that the original three heads flipped open to rinse after shaving but the new design the whole top of the head clips off. It is just as easy to do. The new head will sit in the automatic cleaner just the same as the original. If you want to give it a thorough clean occasionally you can disassemble the head with the tool supplied.
Philips have clearly changed the design but I suspect it is to give a better shave. It seems quieter which suggests it is more efficient. I doubt the new head costs less to manufacture.
The only minus point was that the head was packaged for the American market – it is labelled “Philips Norelco”. Instructions are only in English and Spanish. If you require Swedish or Dutch you will need to make sure you get a European packaged head.
People with the top of the range Philips shaver need not hesitate to get this replacement head.
Update: Have used this for several weeks now and it is definitely a better shave than the old heads. Much closer and deals well with neck hairs.
Although my Philishave razor claimed to have self sharpening heads, I realised it was more an epilator than a trimmer! Replacement heads sold by my local well known chemist shop were prohibitively priced making the cost of a complete new razor look cheap, but still way over my budget, so I put up with the slow shaves, pulling and tugging at my whiskers. When I discovered these cutters and heads from Amazon at a lower price than a single cutter from the chemist I bought them and I’m glad I did – the difference in performance from my old razor is remarkable, shaving time has dropped from around 5-6 minutes down to around 30 seconds to give me the traditional baby’s bottom smoothness. The only drawback is that my face is now getting used to that slight irritation of a really close shave again but I don’t expect it to carry on for much longer. Highly recommended.
p.s. Don’t let the wife or girlfriend borrow your reheaded razor – they might not thank you for it.
It comes in that horrible hard moulded plastic packaging that’s a nightmare to get into and liable to give your finger a nasty cut when you do. When I finally managed to prise the packaging open, the thing fell out and the three cutting heads spilled across the floor. The whole thing went together and fitted in the shaver even though I’d inserted the blade parts in upside down. The result was a worse shave than I was getting before! Very disappointed and grumpy before realising my mistake and replacing the heads the right way up. Eventually when it was working properly I realised for years I’d been making do with blades as blunt as a butter knife.
P.S. – since the movement is better than the previous head it sometimes makes odd noises while shaving at certain angles and applying certain amount of pressure but one can’t be put off with those noises as it still doesn’t affect the shaving experience.
I I old have replaced my shaver heads ages ago, the difference these have made is immense – a shave now lasts an entire day rather than 8 hours.
The packaging is a little faffy and it requires care to keep the blades and foils together as a pair (they’re ground as such and they won’t work as well if mixed up) but so long as you manage that they work like a dream.
The only thing that confuses me is the packaging states these should be replaced every 12 months whereas the Philips website states 24 months. Will be interesting to see how long they last .
All good. easy to fit. cuts ok now. in fact I didnt really need them I think – cos the old heads were merely bunged up which I now know. Maybe a slight improvement in cutting. Still a strange shaver to use. doesnt always cut first time. GBraun was better I think. reliebility is excellent though and its quite good all in all.
Replacement heads fitted my razor perfectly. I expected to have a much better shave with the new head but it’s difficult to see the improvement. However new blades did improve things a bit but I don’t believe the marketing hype about replacing blades every two years. My old blades were at least 5 years old . Service was good and the head came well packaged.
I bought my husband a shaver for Christmas, but the head sometimes unexpectedly fell off when he was cleaning it. We were on holiday on a small boat in a harbour in Barcelona, and he thought he’d shake the razor out of the window, oops! He tried diving for it, but though his ears popped, he had no luck. He went back to using his old one. Years later, I came across the razor handle, and thought I’d get the part and give it to my son. I know nothing about electric razors and ordered what I thought was the whole head, but when it arrived, it was only the blades. I thought ‘heads’ meant the whole thing, as it was all attached. I rang Advantage Shaver Spares, and they couldn’t have been more helpful. They even had to settle with Amazon, that my return item wasn’t there fault. They agreed it did look like the whole thing on the packaging. They found out that I could get the whole head, sent it to me and it has worked brilliantly since. I think the first one was probably faulty.
At first I was concerned because the part no that I ordered was not the part number I had received.
Although through the packaging the replacement cutters looked very similar I did not want to open the package and then find them unsuitable.
I rechecked for my part no but it was not on the package, unsure what to do I contacted Amazon and was told to try them and if they were unsuitable I would get my money back.
I though this was a service beyond what one could expect.
However the parts did fit and were compatible, so all was well.
An excellent service.
To date I have not been able to ascertain the cause of the condition arising.
This is my third set of replacement cutters and all previous ones have been successful, without any malfunction and I have used the razor for approximately 5+ years
Only negative would be the cost of replacement heads, seems expensive but was the general charge on various sites, but I had used this retailer before.
As far as the product itself is concerned, I bought it for my Father who has not got an Amazon account, so other than the fact that it was exactly as described and fit for purpose, I can’t really comment further. But as regards the service, I couldn’t be happier. It was a smooth fast transaction, and I was kept informed at every stage as to where we were and when to expect the item.
I definitely like to buy things from Amazon which I have done now for probably more than ten years, so that speaks for itself I think.
I was very pleased at how quickly this came through. At first I was slightly concerned to see the Norelco sticker on the product and suspected that this meant it was not an original Philipls OEM product. On checking however, I discovered that Norelcois, to quote Wikipedia “Norelco is the American brand name for electric shavers and other personal care products made by the Consumer Lifestyle division of Philips”. So thanks to Amazon it was around 15 cheaper than Philips and arrived really quickly.
IMPORTANT NOTE – If, like me, your shaver head breaks, be sure NOT to throw the whole head unit away as this itel replaces just the cutter holder that you see in the picture on the box (i.e. the top part with the 3 cutter wheels ) and not the whole shaver head unit that it clips on to. Happy shaving!
I have had my shaver for over 20 years and this is only the second time I have had to change the blades. I spent a lot of time going round specialist barber stockests to try and get replacement blades to no avail. I just happoned to look on Amazon for a replacement shaver when it came up with the replacement blades. Yes I know they may be expensive BUT the last lot owed me nothing and what did I have to loose. The shipment only took a few days and o’boy was I pleased when I tried them out. It was like having a new shaver at the fraction of the price of the new ones.
Philips point out that “every year your blades travel to the heights of Mt Everest 49 times” and I can testify changing the heads periodically is a good idea for the maintenance of one’s complexion and the time you spend on shaving, but not if the price of the heads are seemingly nearly the price of a new shaver. So, in one foul swoop, you have enabled me to be kinder to the environment by not throwing out a perfectly good razor and be kind to my face. Nice one Amazon.
