The Philips Shaver Series 3000 (Model S3233/52) in its shiny black design is a reliable and versatile electric shaver. Whether for dry or wet shaving, it delivers excellent performance. Its compatibility with a 2-pin bathroom plug adds to its convenience. A 5-star rating without a doubt.

The shaver is a great machine close to excellence within some exceptions like trimmer not trimming sharply and there are some red patches on my skin due to sensitivity. Maybe is better on a wet than a dry skin. Basically happy with it.

I bought this only due to the discount…however, I’m really happy with the product. The design is professional-looking and easy to clean. Tried this dry on a week’s growth–usually, I use an oil–and it gave me a really close shave in a few minutes. Please be aware–and I missed this!–that you will need an adapter to charge using the mains. Good job, Philips.

Have had to take over shaving duties for my son. I found dry shaving caused his skin to redden slightly and look a little sore as he has fair skin that is dry. After trying three different dry shavers, I have resorted to giving him a wet shave with this razor. I am very satisfied with the results. He seems to prefer it and finds the actual shave more comfortable. Problem solved.

I’m glad I’ve gone back to Phillips for an electric razor. This was a very good price and worth buying. Easy to use, keeps it’s charge and easy to clean.

Brought this for our teenage son as 1st electric shaver. Works well, light weight. Does what it is suppose to do and works well. Battery seems to be good and lasts. Would recommend for 1st shaver or replacing an old 1

I lie this razor. It gives a clean cut and much better than previous razor I’ve had.
It also has a nice bag to keep it in whilst traveling- a bonus.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersOn the first full charge this lasted me 26 days (at one shave per day) before it said it needed charging again. Subsequent full charges gave me slightly less, and about ten charges later I’m getting about 20–22 shaves per charge. My previous shaver was a similar shape Remington that had a display on it that showed the minutes of shaving left in the battery. It showed 60 minutes of charge when full — enough perhaps for 30 two-minute shaves, but it kept going after it showed zero and I probably got 40 or so shaves from one full charge with that shaver. After several years the NiMH batteries lasted less and less time, but I found I could take the shaver apart, unsolder the existing batteries and solder new ones in. It used two AA NiMH batteries with solder tags, and I was able to purchase higher capacity ones than it originally came with. With upgraded batteries it lasted at least as long after reaching “0” on the display as it took going from 60 down to zero, so I must have got about 60 two-minute shaves per charge from that one. It is therefore disappointing that despite modern battery technology this one lasts barely three weeks after a full charge. The shaver is much quieter than my old razor too, so it even sounds like it’s expending less energy shaving me, yet still lasts for a lot fewer shaves.

One other point, as some other reviewers have pointed out, is that the recharging “base” thing is a complete waste of time. When I place my shaver into it it just lolls around and isn’t held in place well at all. Unless the razor is leaning in just the right direction the charging stops, so you have to put the shaver in, lean it just right so it starts charging, and then make sure it doesn’t shift or get knocked, or you’ll come back to a shaver that hasn’t charged. It is so much easier simply to plug the shaver in to the cable and cut out this worthless charging stand thing. The designer of that had one job, and they completely fluffed it.

So unless it’s more expensive, get the product code that doesn’t have the useless charger stand thing.

Other than this, it shaves OK, it’s fairly quiet, it is easy to clean, and is comfortable in the hand.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI am undergoing Radiotherapy treatment on my throat for 6 weeks and was told I couldn’t do a wet shave with a razor through the process but a foil shaver was recommended by the nurse.

It’s probably 30 years since I last used a foil shaver and I wasn’t impressed at the time but this has been a pleasant surprise. Reasonably priced at 63 with fantastic battery life that works really well for a close shave. Easy to clean, just rinse under a tap and leave to dry.

I find the trimmer on the back awkward to use but it works reasonably well the main problem being I can’t see it very well in a mirror when trimming my moustache but that’s a minor quibble.

I don’t like the charging stand but no longer use that after I found you can simply plug the charging cable direct into the bottom of the shaver without having to use the stand.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersDoes the job and give you a clean shave and hold a charge for a few. Not to great the charging hub, can take few goes to get it to sit right. The more costly one maybe better, but not a cheap shaver. East to clean and wash and can we used in water. First few time you have to get use to putting the three round blades back. But once you work how it all goes back together. It not bad and you can get to areas and give them a good clean.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI bought one of these in March and gave it a full charge. I have been using it every day since then and have just had to recharge the battery. That’s after two and a half months of use. The actual shaver is quite large although not particularly heavy. I found the three-head design took a bit of getting used to after I had been using a two-head for a long time. I do get a good shave, so no complaints there. I am not using it wet, so can’t comment on that. I will say it is a bit fiddly to position on the charger. It only takes about an hour to recharge, which was faster than I was expecting. Let’s hope it lasts as long as the last one!

In my Sons words (this was a gift to him) it was the best shave ever! He normally complains that he hasn’t got as close a shave as he wanted or he has a rash, so to hear those words I knew he meant it. He definitely recommends this shaver and the seller. I chose it so some go to me!

Good improvment on the previous 3000 model. Nice battery indicator, fully charged battery lasts me at least a couple of weeks.

I have had a Philips electric shaver since I was 14 this shaver lasted me over 20 years. I decided to get a new one because my old Philips wasn’t working correctly due to 1 of the 3 shavers on it broke, it still works with just 2 of 3 shavers on it. Anyway this shaver I am reviewing was 139.99 but there’s was a half price sale on it on Amazon. That took the price to 69.99. Which I would still say that nearly 70 for a shaver is not cheap. All that being said I am so happy with this new 1. You can have a Wet or a Dry shave with this shaver. Also when cleaning you can just clean it under the tap using hot or cold water. That’s why I’ve given this item 5Stars because you can do wet or dry & it’s so easy to clean. It also shows you 3 bars for battery life also has a Charging doc station attached to plug. You will need to buy an adapter if you don’t have 1 this depends in which country you live in but I’m sure there are adapters for all countries. So yeah definitely a Great buy especially getting it half price. I don’t know what the price is now but if you were thinking of getting 1 go for it definitely..

Best elec shaver I’ve bought. Almost feels like a wet shave, gets that close to the skin. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI’ve always preferred a very close shave, so generally wet shave. After trying another brand of electric razor, I wasn’t impressed.
This one is very quiet and gives me the closest result to a wet shave that I’ve ever had.
Well worth the money and the battery charge lasts ages

Bought it at a discount and also attracted by the easy way to clean – just flush it through running water. It’s easy to clean and use but it’s no match for the good old blade. But for convenience sake, it’s okay. So I took one star off.

A very tactile device which shaves very well. I did find that it was not that easy to remove the head for cleaning.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI’ve used a razor for most of my life because I have sensitive skin and electric shavers have always given me a rash on my neck. This one is no different when I use it dry, but using it for wet shaving has been a revelation. It shaves very nearly as close as a blade and it’s easier on my face, with no chance of cuts, and feels right in the hand. The result is a more even shave, too. Only downside is the trimmer’s not very good, so four stars for that reason.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersWhat struck me first of all was how quiet this shaver is, it literally hardly makes a sound. At first I thought that perhaps the battery was running out but no it just keeps on going. Up to now I have been using a very loud, very fast-spinning foil shaver. The remarkable thing is that this, by comparison, very slow-spinning Philips rotary takes me three to six minutes to get a good shave, depending on growth, compared to fifteen to twenty minutes with my foil shaver. The end result is pretty much the same, I just don’t have to go over and over the same area nearly as much with the Philips. Battery life is excellent so far, a full charge giving me fifteen shaves. It takes an hour to fully recharge. By comparison my foil shaver’s hour charge only gives me usually four shaves. Cleaning the Philips rotary daily is simple, just flipping up the shaver head and rinsing under the tap with lukewarm water. However, the recommendation to dismantle the blades and blade holders once a month for a more thorough washing off is a different ball game altogether. The instructions say to be careful to keep the blades and guards as matched pairs. I have found this to be impossible. With the retaining frame removed, the slightest shake or accidental knock sent the blades flying out of the guards. Getting the retaining frame back on is extremely fiddly. really difficult and I have found it impossible to keep the blades in place while doing this. Twice now I have had to put the heads back together as random pairs. Also I was not able to tell if the guards were correctly seated because, although they each have two notches in their circumference, there were no visible corresponding projections in the holder. This left me a bit concerned as to whether the heads were correctly fitted. Anyway, the shaver unit clicked easily closed when it was all back together and fortunately it still seems to shave OK with the heads mixed up – I certainly can’t believe I got lucky and happened to put them back in the original combinations.
One of the biggest bugbears to me with the more expensive foil shaver is the cleaning station that comes with it, which ties the user into a constant outlay for cleaning solution refills which don’t last for anywhere near the number of cleans that the suppliers claim and cost around four quid a throw. By comparison, apart from the occasional replacement of blades which I am given to believe should be after two years or so, the Philips 3000 is satisfyingly free of ongoing expenditure. This, together with the time-limited discounted buying price at Amazon makes it pretty good value.
