Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI’ve been using a 5000 series for a couple of years, over all the 5000 is a great trimmer but I found myself accidentally changing lengths as I change grip during cuts which wasn’t ideal.

Anyway, decided to re-do my bathroom, out with the old in with new… and I splashed out on the 9000 series.

Mechanically, seems much the same as the 5000 which was slightly disappointing at first, not sure what I was expecting at the 5000 cut perfectly well – but once charged, soon I came to really enjoy the digital interface on the 9000, just knowing the battery level was nice compared to times past where the the light just starts flashing red mid-cut.

The Memory setting is pretty crucial, I found myself able to tap the memory setting and do the sides / top & even went over my beard just fine.

Note: To set memory (when turned off) select the desired length, hold the M until the 1 flashes on the right hand side, then release & hold M again for about 5 seconds and the screen with say “SET” when stored… just tap the M to switch to 1>2>3, and hold the button again to store it.

And discovering the cutter Locks the length when you power it on was great, no longer will I accidentally shift up/down lengths by mistake.

“Auto-Turbo” concerned me slightly, as generally I’ve found with all my philips cutters I turn it on and hit the turbo button – that’s just how it is! but the automatic really doesn’t need much/any noticeable resistance before the Turbo function kicks in and it leaves it running for a few seconds, much to my surprise it was pretty seamless.

Overall – The cut is great, ergonomically it worked just fine never felt uncomfortable, love that it locks the length, memory settings are great for bouncing between lengths & no longer will I think to myself do I usually do this a 8 or a 10.. it’s simply what I stored.

So, I’m glad I went 9000 series and short of a huge price jump – it’s just what I’ll buy in future.

After my 12 year old Remington trimmer gave up the ghost, i decided to look for a more upto date version. I soon stumbled across this Philips model Series 900.I have used it now for about 6 weeks. It’s very lightweight with an ergonomic feel to the handling. Very precise increments when altering the depth of the cutting guide. You are supplied with 3 of these, so trimming of hair and beards is limitless to the desired length. The battery life of this model is surprisingly long lasting and quickly recharges itself.
After over a decade using my old model, technology in this field has moved on considerably.

Wahl trimmer. Like the way it cuts your hair

and channels the thicker bits smoothly away

from the blade. Seem well made, impressed

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersGreat clippers – way more efficient than our old ones and the cordless design is great. However, the sizes range from 3-28 which we figured might include half sizes but in fact they are in mm. Used a 3 instead of the usual 2 to be safe and it was very short – less than a 1 in the usual system. We know for next time though!

Give a first class finish and very easy to operate. Better than the more expensive version of these that I previously had and feel more robust.

I haven’t been to a barbers/hair dresser in years since using Philips hair clippers….must have saved a small fortune!

Remember though….these are clippers not a head shaver. If you want a smooth finish get a shaver…as clippers go I don’t think you can beat Philips. Nice quality.

    Well pleased.

I recently purchased the Philips hair trimmer and I have to say, I am extremely impressed with its performance. The trimmer is well-designed and easy to use, with a comfortable grip that makes it simple to maneuver around my head. The adjustable comb allows me to achieve the perfect length for my hair, and the precision blades ensure a clean and even cut every time.

I appreciate the versatility of this trimmer, as it can be used for trimming both facial hair and head hair. The included attachments make it easy to switch between different lengths and styles, and I love that I can use it for everything from shaping my beard to trimming my hair.

Another great feature is the cordless design of the trimmer, which allows for complete freedom of movement. The battery life is impressive, lasting for a long time on a single charge, so I don’t have to worry about running out of power during a trimming session.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Philips hair trimmer to anyone in need of a versatile and efficient grooming tool. The quality and performance of this trimmer are top-notch, and it has quickly become an essential part of my grooming routine. Whether you’re looking to shape your beard, trim your hair, or both, this trimmer is sure to get the job done.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI have only just got these clippers, but one thing to note, start off with a longer length setting than you’re used to. I had Wahl clippers previously, and always used the 3mm guard. I have today used the 3mm setting on the new Philips clippers and my hair is ALOT shorter! So although they seem good and work well, I would suggest you start off long and work out which setting is best for you.

Bought it to replace an old model I had. I use it to cut my own hair and usually I play with length from 0-3 in my sides. This Philips lowest size is 3 only so can’t cut my hair shorter than that so it’s pretty annoying for grading and fading. For the rest works perfectly

Top brand, well designed mens hair trimmer, easily charged and lasts at least an hour in constant use. Bought one at the start of the Covid Lockdown and as it has multi click in size variation comb guides, you simply click in the preferred length comb, set the digital length making sure to lock the length by holding the memory button (tip keep checking the memory is displaying the correct size as it is possible to accidently alter it) for which there are three. Make sure to keep the base of the clicked in comb to the scalp then simply glide it from back to front or reverse. Do a final redo all over and it should be neat. Then if shorter needed on sides then start at bottom and left up where you want it to blend in (take the length guide off to shave as such of course) Simple really. To sum up, found this so useful that have just bought this one as a ‘spare’ so no need to worry about being discontinued and found out spare diamond technology cutter replacements are quite expensive. Can only highly recommend it even around the 80 mark and if you see it cheaper still then grab it whilst you can, like I did for my spare one.

As I am getting to an age where my hair has receded, and balking that I don’t get a 50% discount at barbers, I thought I would get one of these to cut my own hair with the assistance of my wife. I also wanted something short as combovers don’t look good on me (or most people). This is a great product, which I selected on the basis of the reviews. Cuts through hair very easily and quickly, and the hair is cut to a nice uniform length, with no bits sticking out. Clippers are very easy to adjust and I like that they have a large variety of settings, in 1 mm increments. Some suggested that this might be too much, but i have used the 3mm, 4mm (for sides) and 10mm for top. I might go a bit longer on top and nice to have the option of 1mm increments. Cordless is much easier to use than a corded clipper. Can’t comment on longevity, but looks and feels good quality.

I had a version of this years ago and when it eventually died couldn’t get another that would do such long lengths. My original had a telescopic dial, whereas this is digital and that does take a bit of getting used to which is why I gave 4/5 for ease of use, but using just 3 guards to get up to 4cm long cuts is really good. Also my original was cable only but this has fab power and much less fiddly and lighter to use on battery. I’ve done about 4 hair cuts on one charge and in just a few months we have saved the cost of lots of lads getting 10 haircuts every few weeks.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI already owned a Philips 7000 clipper but wanted to cut a longer length than the 23mm possible with that product.

The series 9000 allows you to cut 1-42mm plus 0.5mm without combs. For context, 42mm allows you to cut up to just over grade 13 (41.2mm).

The battery was still going strong at the end of my first ‘learning’ trim which was longer than any subsequent uses will ever take.

The 3 length combs are easy to change although I wish you didn’t have to change just to go from grade 3 to 2 (smallest comb is 1-7mm).

3 length presets can be saved for each comb (9 total) which is very useful. I spent 10mins saving presets before my first use which saved time and hassle later.

The shape and weight of the 9000 clippers is similar to the 7000 so I’m happy with the handling. I think the 9000 has slightly better looks.

These clippers are a symmetrical design so I found them easy to use with both hands.

Best hair clipper out there for longer haircuts. All the other brands assume that you want to be bald and the combs stop at about 1 inch. Some do supply slightly longer combs (Wahl, for example) but they are made of cheap bendy plastic that can give your hair a very uneven look since the comb moves/bends whilst you cut.
The Philips clipper has a very sold plastic guard that does not move at all – no need to worry about it going squiffy. You can get very long settings on here and so are not restricted to looking like you just joined the military as you are with other clippers.
I’m super pleased with this clipper having previously used Wahl. The ONLY problem is the RIDICULOUS system for changing the cutting length – slide your finger on the touchpad and it zooms from 20mm to 40, tap it and it goes up one… or down one.. then up 5… or down 10… or zoom straight back to 10mm. Really there is little rhyme or reason to this gizmo and it can take a while to get the setting you want! They only needed 2 buttons – up + down. They have sacrificed functionality for looking cool.
Other than that, the best clipper on the market!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI bought this product to replace needs to go to barbershop.
Although I never used it for this purpose yet, but I ended up using it to shave beard.
It’s a very nice and precise hair clipper, with a minimum of 0.5 mm.
light weight and comfortable to handle.
A bit of vibration presents, but I think it’s acceptable. Not very noisy at all.
On the negative side: it needs a bad, that doesn’t come with the product. Also the plastic part of it needs to be protected as it could break easily.

But there are plenty of positive things about this. Most importantly the titanium head is very durable.

I will update my review after a while to check if it’s built to last.

    Great value for the money.

Golden Review Award: 23 From Our UsersYou know that advert for Carlsberg?
Philips should do one. “If only everything in life could be Philips, probably the best shavers…” You get the idea!

My purchase decision was based on the reviews for this and other hair clippers. I noticed that most other makes always had a few comments saying the hair clipper was pulling hair. This one had none (at least on the reviews I looked at ordered by date).

I’m usually a Wahl person. Had them for years. Heavy, good at what they do. Normally. But then the last two I’ve had, well lets just say budget cuts perhaps? One struggled to cut, the second one pulled hair. Not in a painful way, but it pulled hair and it’s supposed to cut. The blades also didn’t seem to be aligned correctly.

    This Philips HC5632/13 is amazing.
    Lightweight (quality isn’t always heavy!)
Cuts with no pulling of hair.
No huge collection of different combs for different lengths of hair.
First time cut of my hair
Freedom from cables (once you’ve charged it). It can be used whilst connected though, should it run out of charge!
The shape, although it appears strange at first, fits in your hand like it should. Ergonomic.
Easily cleaned, just run it under the tap.
The quickest haircut with the least amount of fuss I’ve ever done! 10 minutes, cut and cleaned. Because I DIDN’T have to keep going over my head for parts the clippers had missed!!

I’ve always been a fan of Philips shavers and now they’ve won me over with these hair clippers .

    Would I recommend them? Yes
Would I buy them again? Definitely
Should you buy it? That’s your choice, but for the price (I paid 36.99) it’s a steal!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersAs have many other men, I have been inflicting DIY haircuts on myself during the pandemic.
I had an old set of clippers I had bought from Lidl a few years ago that had been used primarily for beard trimming as well as tidying hair between visits to the barbers.
These eventually died, the battery wouldn’t hold charge long enough to trim my hair and I was starting to look like the chap out of Human League (for those of you old enough to remember the 80’s), long hair one side and very short the other!!!
Purchased these because I have a Philips beard trimmer which is brilliant. Took an hour to charge them from new as the battery was totally flat.
Used these the first time and wow, not only can I cut my hair in one go now, they are quicker and remarkably easy to use. With my old clippers I struggled to get hair the correct length on top, particularly around the crown but with these they seem to keep the hair within the guides much better and as a consequence I have hair an equal length all over the top with far less effort. I also find they are easier to lift and blend hair at the sides with the top, which I always cut longer than the sides.
As with my beard trimmer, the guides stay at the selected length in use (did have a couple of mishaps with the guides slipping on my old clippers) and need a very deliberate action to change the length.
Even my wife noticed the fact I wasn’t in the bathroom for the best part of an hour when cutting my hair this time and eventually, after much micky taking, did comment on the fact that the end result looked better than normal as I had no clumps, or worse still thin patches.
As with any activity like cutting your own hair, make sure you know how the clippers work before starting. This model does not allow for any accidental adjustment of length which is a real bonus. Start by setting the guides to a slightly longer length than you might actually want as I have found different brands have different interpretations of any length selected, 21mm to one manufacturer is 18mm to another…not so bad at longer lengths but potentially disastrous at shorter lengths. When finished, if it is longer than you want then you can go over your hair again with the guide at shorter length but you can’t add hair back if you set it too short in the first place as I have seen on another reviewwhere the reviewer blamed the clippers. Just remember the old adage about a bad workman and his tools!
Yes, these clippers are good. If they ever die I will be buying the same again.

This thing has made my life that tiny bit more easier, I love it.

It charges quickly and holds onto it for ages, there’s no plugging in, for me it was always a case of getting an extension chord all the way to the bathroom (which came with a slight fear of being in a spot of danger) and then plugging my old electronic shaver in to do my hair or beard, where now I just lift this thing out of my shaving bag and turn it on, spot on.

The quality of the cut is excellent too, I’m no pro, but I have cut my own hair for years and I can say this shaver does a great job, just as good if not better than my wired one.

To me the shaver seems to be well made and out of good and sturdy plastics, I feel this will be in my self grooming collection for some time.

It’s easy to use and well made and not expensive, get it of you need it.

Golden Review Award: 35 From Our UsersThe Philips 9000 clipper is in some ways better and in some ways worse than the 5450 clipper. Both have great titanium blades. Both cut really well. The older (5450) has in my opinion better grip and gives you the option to select standard/turbo mode manually. The newer (9000) does not allow manual turbo mode but it switches on the turbo mode when cutting more thick hair. This probably helps optimise battery life (yet I personally am used to have the turbo mode on all the time). The new (9000) clipper has electronic (instead of manual) cutting length adjustment which in my opinion is unnecessary complication (the manual setting on 5450 is good enough).
In terms of cutting quality both are equal. Please note that Philips also sells similar models (with slightly different model numbers) with steel blades, I tried one and it was horrible (bulling hair etc). So make sure you buy a model with titanium blades.

Golden Review Award: 21 From Our UsersI’ve had these clippers for a while now, after a combination of rising barber bills and receding hairline made me question whether there was a better option. I was a little nervous about cutting my own hair in case I ended up making a terrible mistake and having to wear a hat for a few weeks, but it’s hard to go wrong with these clippers. The guards all make sure that the length is exactly as you’ve dialled in and the charge lasts for a long time. I clip my hair once a week and charge it probably once every month or six weeks. There’s plenty of length settings to choose from to suit whatever cut you’d like and the lock ensures that while the clippers are active you can’t accidentally change the preset. They come with a little brush to dust them off afterwards which keeps them looking clean. The only downside is they’re not great at catching all the wispy type hairs at the back of your neck if you’ve got a guard on. They do work for those if you take the guard off but when clipping your own hair that can be a risky move if you aren’t careful.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersBought this recently to replace my Babyliss clipper that was starting to snag a bit and wasn’t holding its charge – barely managing to get through even one hair cut.

My girlfriend took it to my head today and I’m really surprised by how smooth it was – it doesn’t pull and no matter how thick the hair was it seemed to glide through it easily. She also said it’s very light but much easier to handle than the Babyliss so a thumbs up from her 🙂

The motorised combs are probably a bit of a gimmick and for me the chances are I won’t really need to use many of the settings as I just tend to go for a short back and sides – but having the options there certainly do no harm, and the displays do make the device look pretty snazzy 🙂

Having come from a traditional hair clipper with standard barber grade combs I found what the lengths were for each barber comb (I use 2 and 3) and then added the settings to the memory (the clipper comes with 3 combs and allows 3 settings to be stored for each comb, a great time saver). As I wasn’t sure how the the traditional barber grades would translate into mm I used slightly longer settings initially and then gradually reduced the lengths until I got it just right – I then saved these to memory ready for the next time.

On the whole this is a really good clipper but being able to set your length settings by .1 of a mm increments thus giving 400 settings is probably a bit overkill and the motorised comb are a but gimmicky but still, they do a great job and cut through even thick hair like a knife through butter. Really great value for money and also looks really nice, with a good weight and the maintenance free titanium blades should ensure they stay sharp for many years. An excellent product!

This is amazing. I like my hair a lot longer on the top than the sides and I couldn’t for the life of me find a decent hair clipper that would go a lot longer than a number 8. This goes right up to 42mm which is much longer than even I thought. It’s perfect!

The cut on this is also clean, fast, and unlike other hair clippers it doesn’t miss bits that you have to keep going over and over to try and get. It needs no oil and really is the best clippers I’ve ever seen.

If I had to be critical I’d say that the touch screen controls on the front are totally unnecessary. You select the length you want by rolling your thumb up and down (this adjusts the distance between the guard and the blade electronically) and then you press the power button lower down to lock in the length and start cutting. When it starts cutting it turns off the touch screen controls to stop you accidentally changing the length while you’re cutting obviously. However, if you like to stop and start the device as you’re using it you need to remember to keep your fingers away from the touchscreen when you stop the device or you’ll accidentally change the length!

Overall this is the best clippers I’ve ever seen or used, and is the ONLY clippers I’ve found for people who like their hair longer, as no other clippers will cut your hair up to 42mm as well as this one will. Highly highly recommended.
