I have bought both this and it’s partner Pokmon Scarlet. Both games are set in different time periods, apparently. But this is essentially the same game as Scarlet. But with a slightly different roster of Pokmon to collect. Best thing about both games is the ability to explore open-world. Whilst getting your Pokmon to fight the NPC Pokmon out in the world, without you having to engage in battles all the time. Though both games can be played on a big screen, the quality of playback on the new Nswitch OLED screen still feels superior. On a smaller screen without a Top of the Range all-singing and dancing contemporary state of the art Television.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI haven’t played Pokmon since Pokmon sun/moon so it’s been 7 or so years.

I love the changes, I love the open world and seeing all the Pokmon roaming around. I love the raids so far. I haven’t gotten far in the game I’ve only just beaten the first gym leader because I keep roaming around and picking up so much loot.

I have heard the DLCs cause insane performance issues so I’ll hold off on them and enjoy base game for a while.

Had a few bugs on release but since the game has been fine other than that it’s a pokemon game. So easy to get sucked in and dump hours into.

I have completed this game and I can safely say I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
As someone who has played Pokmon since its launch in the 90s, I actually like the way the franchise has evolved.
It has a set of stories that you need to do to unlock the finale, and has so many in-game features it will keep you entertained for days.
I understand alot of people complained about the bugs at launch (which the developers fixed) and times where you lose latency…
Honestly, I do not know why people feel the need to complain about something so trivial.

The original generation of Pokmon games were so limited; with no backlight on the handheld Gameboy, no online features of any kind (except local play via link cables, as the internet was not really a thing back then).
If you had no friends you would find yourself unable to just hop online and make them like you can today.
It was a set path, with no story and no character was really memorable.
Nowadays you get to see Pokmon in their natural habitats like real life animals. Swimming in lakes, hanging from trees, even grouped up in herds or packs.
You get to customise your own characters and explore a vast open world that we only ever dreamed of as children in the 90s.
I have played through and own at least one game from every generation (and on their respective handhelds) and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
None of this min-maxing, IV business is my cup of tea, and the game caters to old fashioned types like me as well as the young, competitive types.
I was able to go through the game at my own pace and enjoy the quality of life improvements, along with transferring Pokmon from previous games.

I gave this game five stars and decided to order Scarlet too, since I love them so much. Now my husband who also grew up on these games, can enjoy the new experience with me!

Lets face it, all pokemon games are the same. run around an island. capture pokemon, train them, battle with them, faces gym owners. repeat. This is fairly standard by that measure. looks pretty, plays well. Take off the cutsey grpahics and underneath it is a fairly solid team building strategy battler and a very good game. I bought it for my 9 year old who loves it but had flash backs to the Game boy version from the 90’s so have to admit im playing it myself too. 🙂

This is a great game with three separate plot lines that eventually converge in a dramatic finale, there are some really cool new pokmon and you can switch between the plot lines at will and there are other activities to try in between so it’s hard to get bored 😀

The game itself is fun, i appreciate the open world and overworld encounters, however the game falls flat in terms of performance, with stuttering and frame drops being fairly common. The game will also drastically throttle render distance at random intervals.

There is also something to be said about the non inclusion of the national dex meaning that players may not be able to bring their favourite pokemon into this game.

This game is amazing. I loved Pokmon already but this game takes it to a new level. I love exploring the areas and trying to catch all the Pokmon. It’s much more free to explore than other similar games which means at least in part the pace and order of the game is up to you. Really recommend it for older children and adults. Younger kids might enjoy but there’s a fair bit of reading to understand the game fully.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersI see lots of people hating on this game. honestly don’t know why. I love the open world theme, people are complaining about you being able to do whatever you want in whatever order but it doesn’t really matter. you need to beat the gyms in the correct order anyways to unlock higher levels that your pokmon can be, so it’s not like you’re gonna be able to just go and beat the final gym straight away.
the graphics could be better but i honestly like them more than any past games graphics. they just feel more comfortable

shiny hunting is much easier but still hard enough in this game. you need to still do grinding and put in work to get shinies, but once you have all the required stuff (herbas and completed game and pokedex) theyre not too hard to get. i also love the co-op and new pokmon in this game.

the glitches are not that bad, i never really experienced any and i have 100+ hours on the game.

So, if you are wanting to buy it I say go for i

Golden Review Award: 10 From Our UsersI started my Pokemon journey back when Red & Blue were on the gameboy and I now own most of the Pokemon games ever released.
I recently bought a Nintendo switch as I hadn’t played the newer generations. I played Let’s Go Pikachu, Sword,Brilliant Diamond and Arceus Legends while I awaited the release of Scarlet and Violet which I had delivered on release day.
I have played this game for 200+ hours and it’s absolutely brilliant. With Pokemon Violet I’ve gotten into aspects of the series that I never really had the patience for previously such as EV training, competitive/online play and shiny hunting as they are much more accessible now.
I really enjoyed exploring the open world and took my time finishing the main story. Even after the story was done and my Pokedex was complete there was still loads of gameplay to be had doing Tera raids and such and I still play often. I’m always excited for the next event raid. Also there is still a DLC to be had from this game which I’m excited about.
I have experienced a few minor glitches during my gameplay including a couple of full game crashes and freezing issues during online raids but nothing that has negated my enjoyment of the game.
As someone who put off getting a Switch for so long I’m so happy I got into these newer games and Pokemon Violet has been the best of the lot.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersA lot of people have been complaining about glitches on this game but I’ve yet to come across one!

I love the open world aspect and the ability for your pokemon to come out and thrash wild pokemon.

    Downsides;
    – the wonder trade or surprise trade is very long winded I prefer just to click one button and wait rather then multiple buttons and having to go back to the main portal page.
    – I was really hoping that this time round I would be able to catch all the pokemon to complete my pokedex like arceus but sadly no ny only chance is surprise trade which is pretty poor. I just want a decent single player pokemon game.
    – the shinies are difficult to spot unless you know what to look out for. I miss the little gold sparkles around them

There are a few more draw backs but honestly it’s a fantastic game! If the new pokemon game is like this now I’m ecstatic of what the future games look like

Really good game, specially if you want to play with your friends because you can join during the whole game, doing things separately or together.
Not my favorite plot, but gave me good 40h playing with multiple people and it was easy to complete the Pokedex thanks to that.
It also has events with rare pokemon that you can’t find in the game, which make the game playable even if you finished the main story.
    Good choice.

So, I love this game. Its so fun and is a great pokemon game. I’ve watched other people play and there are bugs, fps issues and the way it looks is lackluster for what’s supposed to be the next in line for main pokemon games. Personally I have not experienced these apart from characters at a distance have poor fps. But, I can’t help but play it over and over. Can’t give a 5* because it definitely needs updates.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThere’s no point sugarcoating it – this game is a choppy mess. The frame rate drops unacceptably often and the game is laced with bugs. This is incredibly disappointing for a game that should have been optimised for the Switch. Having said that, it still manages to be great fun. For me to be able to look past all the performance issues and still get immense enjoyment out of the game says a lot. I hope GameFreak will do a better job next time around – but let’s face it, people will buy new Pokmon games no matter what.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersGame is amazing, been grinding and have over 45 hours on it. However, as everyone knows, the performance isn’t the best as some areas can have quite a few FPS drops, as well as some glitches (haven’t had a massive one, but seen a few “interesting” ones online).
Still, once you start playing and don’t pay that much attention to performance and glitches then the game is amazing, and besides some glitches can make you laugh (my favourite one is catching flying pokemons and the pokeball shakes in the air).

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersThe game I find to be as most Pokmon games are really addictive. I can explore the world for hours and it’s because of the Pokmon and filling your Pokdex which is great as now for every 10 Pokmon caught it rewards you with items and the visual concept of it like filling books in a library is a lot better than before.
Most of the new Pokmon designs are good and fit in with the old. And the game has mostly ran on my old original switch fine. Only issue is it does feel a bit rushed in some aspects like most modern pokemon games. At a distance NPC’s judder and move like robots until you are practically on them and they didn’t put interiors in most of the buildings. I have been playing for 30+ hours and I still have loads of story and game to do as well as Pokmon to catch. This time instead of just the 8 badges to collect there is also a titan pokemon storyline to follow and a team star one to follow. In my opinion it is a great game, fun and addictive with some minor, annoying niggles. Still recommended, especially for any fans of past Pokmon games!
