I bought this to put all my favourite PS5 and PS4 games onto my console as the standard ssd can only hold a couple of large PS5 games. Works a treat and fast.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersSuch a good SSD for the PlayStation 5! 2TB of storage is more then enough to hold all my games and apps!

It has half of the read times of the 1TB version, but it’s still super-duper fast for my needs.

Fitted into my PS5 in a couple of minutes. I have the digital only version of the PS5 so neede the extra storage after purchasing only a few games. All my games (so far) now run from this drive and load times and map transitions are amazingly fast!

This is the ultimate M.2 NVME memory that you can get for your PS5. Even though it registers as slower in the console itself, ignore that, its bullet speed in actual operation. I don’t think the PS5 can read the extra speed.

Unlike the WD SN850 which I had before, it doesn’t overheat. It’s definitely a superior performer. You get what you pay for. When it comes to gaming, don’t compromise on speed and performance. You want the best that you can get and this is it.

With the lower price, it’s a true bargain. Stop wasting your time and just buy it. I can’t recommend it enough.

    SIMPLY THE BEST

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThis review will involve numbers, but it won’t be super scientific.

I use the Firecuda 2TB in my computer as a secondary drive only for cloning purposes, in my dual boot Ubuntu & Windows system, so can’t give you information on thermals as only use it in a live USB environment (Clonezilla to be specific).

I managed to clone the primary 1TB nvme gen 3 drive (Intel), filled up to ~700GB, to the 2TB Firecuda in roughly 21 minutes (skipping disk health check). I have mixed feelings about the transfer rate because this is advertised as a 700K random write drive but I didn’t get close to that in a real world application, see:

700,000 MB data from source drive, drive A
2,000,000 MB space on destination drive (partially filled to about 1.1TB), drive B
21 minutes total transfer time to clone drive A into B

    napkin maths:

    (700,000 MB/ 21 minutes) = 33333 MB/minute

33,333 MB/minute = 33,333/60 MB/second = 555 MB/s < advertised 700MB/s random write So we are looking at high end SATA drive transfer rates here on a "super fast gen 4 nvme", so not blown away by performance but can still recognise it is blazing fast.

Can’t believe it’s under 100 for 1TB and it’s well worth more now I’ve got so many games and tons of space left for loads more

Managed to get just under 6,500MB/s when installed in the PS5 and let it run its own internal test. The heatsink seems good quality, no heat issues. Paid 109 at the end of last year (2022), I’ve not had any issues with it since – would have gotten the higher TB version but the prices are still too high.

Bought this for my PS5, which loves it. Shame the Bescar armour finish is lost in the PS5 , but would look great on your motherboard.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersGreat SSD for Playstation 5 and finally I can store more games instead of deleting and re downloading games as I want to play them, it took 5 minutes to install after watching a YouTube video on how to do it, I’d definitely recommend for anyone struggling with storage space.

    Perfect for Playstation 5

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI got this for my ps5. Great storage upgrade and very very easy to install. The youtube videos are all accurate in how they show how easy it is to remove the cover and slide it back on. When inside and installing the ssd its as simple as removing 2 screws, slotting it in, and replacing the 2 screws.
When installed you simply turn you ps5 back on, click yes to the format question it automatically comes up with and its done. It showed me it has a read speed of 6800 mb/s.
    Can not recommend enough.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI bought the Star Wars themed version as it was cheaper at the time than the standard, it a solid built ssd, comes with stickers and a postcard, see my pics, install was easy, just slide of the ps5 cover, unscrew the ssd cover, unscrew the spacer and slot in the ssd, put it back together, switch on the ps5 and it formats for you, simple

Well Built, essential expansion for my Ps5

Golden Review Award: 12 From Our UsersI’ve been using this in my PS5 for a little over a month now, and honestly I’m very pleased with it. For a while I had been considering getting a SSD for my PS5 but was unsure if I actually needed it. But having the extra storage really proved useful

The PS5 storage, as most people know, isn’t great. Before I got the SSD, I found myself having to delete games constantly to make way for new ones. With the new SSD, that problem is gone. I now have more games on my PS5 than ever before (around 25 games) and I still have room for more.

In terms of speed, I still feel the PS5’s own internal SSD is faster. I believe this is only due to the fact it has been made to work specifically with the PS5 system. That’s not to say that this SSD isn’t fast, it is. In fact it’s very close to a point where you won’t notice.

The biggest issue of course is the installation, but as long as follow the correct steps you should be fine and takes no longer than 5 minutes to install.

Overall, I’d highly recommend this. Especially if you like having or want to have lots of games installed that can be played with the high loading speeds. If you are new to PS5, I would recommend holding off for a few months just to see if the SSD is really necessary for you. You may find you don’t need the extra space.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI had to fit this in a different slot because the heat sink interferes with sound card slot. My Corsair NVme was even worse but I have ordered from Amazon a lower profile heat sink that I hope will solve the problems. ASUS need to redesign their motherboards to allow more space to accommodate the heat sinks but that is little comfort to you if it won’t fit into your board so be aware. YouTube will show you how to remove the heat sink if you do have problems.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersThis product was purchased so that my husband could blah blah blah (I stopped listening) something about his Playstation 5 and games and saves. What he meant was that I could buy it and then install it for him. He couldn’t do it himself because he’s as light-handed as a sledgehammer. As a lady of a certain age the technofear looms large in my life, luckily this product was incredibly easy to install in the PS5 by following one of the numerous “how to” videos on t’interweb. It took five minutes and two of those were spent searching for a teeny screwdriver.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis at the time I am righting this jan 2023 is the fastest high rewrite cycles drive out there for home PC’S. It is beaten for outright top place for some speed test by Samsung 980 pro I believe, but this drive is as fast and faster on other tests. THE BIG DIFFERENCE , This drive can be rewritten to every day for five years to 70 percent rewrites of its size, and this is guaranteed. This will outlast al the other drives and is safer for data and long term use. It is really fast.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThis listing fails to mention that Firecuda 530 is a desktop SSD and should never be used without a heatsink, also ensuring proper ventilation, which is clearly stated on the Seagate product page:
    – Intended for desktop PCs.
    – FireCuda 530 SSD’s heatsink is pre-installed and should not be removed as it can damage the SSD.
    – With the heatsink, the product exceeds standard M.2 dimensions. Dimensions of the FireCuda 530 SSD are 80.15 mm (L) x 22.9 mm (W) x 18.25 mm (H).
    – M.2 connectors H3.2 and above are recommended for an SSD with a heatsink.
    – For optimal performance, provide sufficient airflow and cooling.

Blazing fast but also lava hot. For laptops — do not buy. For consoles and desktop PCs you probably can’t go any better.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersExcellent internal SSD for PS5.

Was easy to install, following the video guide from Sony on YouTube.

Got a read speed of 6538 MB/s during formatting on the PS5. Worth noting, however, that PS5s have some caps on read and write speeds so in practice you’ll not get 6.5GB/s when copying data from the PS5 storage to the SSD; you’ll likely get around 1.4GB/s, but this is sufficiently fast from experience.

Additionally, the storage size of 1 TB is great. I currently have around 25 games across both the PS5 storage and the Firecuda with around 500Gb of remaining storage. Games load just as fast from the SSD and it doesn’t have any heating problems.

Altogether, it’s a great SSD which doesn’t overheat and offers additional storage for the PS5 that will be fine for most people.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersHeatsinks on an SSD are largely pointless, the only tangible result is that it makes the SSD too big, and I couldn’t install it on the primary M.2 slot of my B550M Steel Legend mobo, so I had to use the second slot, which is PCIe G3, so I can’t get the advertised PCIe G4 speeds. But otherwise it’s good, and I got it real cheap (it was almost half the price), so it was worth it.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersThe drive exceeded the advertised read/writes with 7391/6144 right out of the box.

    Test System: X570/5900X/RTX 3090/64GB

The temp peaked to 55*C in the Crystal Disk bench. Office is fairly cool and the drive is idling at 38*C, but I figured this would be the case since it sits in the first M.2 slot on my X570 motherboard. Air needs to channel between the RAM and GPU to reach it, honestly – it’s a terrible placement for these Gen4 NVMe since they can generate so much heat. My second M.2 slot is covered by the GPU and I already have a slower NVMe in it for extra storage.

Only purchased since my previous NVMe, Aorus Gen4 (the all copper launch one), died due to overheating. That drive was idling at 55*C and those first gen Phison controllers haven’t earned a great reputation for reliability.

The biggest reason for buying this drive is the endurance rating for the drive and that it could possibly generate less heat since the memory is limited to 1,200 MTps vs. 1,600 MTps. Definitely on the pricier side of similar 1TB NVMe drives (980 Pro, KC3000, SN850, Rocket 4 Plus, and Platinum P41), but it’s also has the highest endurance rating out of all of them and free data recovery for 3-years.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our Users4TB with built-in heat sink. Being a console player, I honestly don’t know much about SSD drives or many techie things. So I was petrified when purchasing this. Contrary to some reviews, I can categorically confirm that this is PS5 compatible and it requires no calibration. It’s plug in and play. Added 4TB of memory to my PS5. The added 4TB memory works just the same as the internal memory does. You can download games to the SSD 4TB, you can update games and save progress is stored on it. It’s been an absolute life saver. Large games like COD and Warzone take up so much space that I was only ever able to have 5 or so games on my PS5. It was a never ending headache of what to delete next. If you can afford it, this is the solution. The loading times are the same, nothing slows down. I’ve noticed absolutely no changes or negatives since using this. I heard a lot of bad things about cheaper versions of SSD drives, and I didn’t want to ruin the capabilities of my PS5. So I therefore was happy to pay the price for the best I could find. I do find it absolutely disgusting that Playstation provide so little memory. But if you can afford it, I HIGHLY recommend this to all PS5 owners.

Golden Review Award: 27 From Our UsersDid a lot of research on which m.2 ssd to buy (WD Black/Samsung/Firecuda) benchmark testing, PS5 only videos, and installed this particular drive in my ps5 for faster game loads.. the ssd i bought was the firecuda 1Tb version with heatsink – very simple to install.

Turned off and unplugged ps5. slide the lid/casing off the bottom of the ps5. Unscrew the ssd casing. position the screw and washer they provide down 1 notch to the 80mm mark and gently inserted the drive, hearing the click as the ssd drive slots in.

Then proceeded to turn on the ps5, which prompted me to format the usb drive taking a few seconds to format and eventually giving a read speed of 6538.91MB/s as shown in the image – which is to be expected as i think ps5 bottlenecks this read speed around this value. Having a look at reviews of other ssd brands other customers have bought and reviewed.. they all seem to cap out at this 6500MB/s speed so i am very happy the SSD arrived on time (1 day delivery cos gamer), and is performing as expected.

Transferred Destiny 2 and Godfall ~103GB of data from the console storage to this m.2 SSD drive (go to an app, and press options -> move game data) – this took about 1 minute.. to transfer 100GB of data!! incredibly fast.
One thing i did not expect however was that my LAN cable was Disconnected during this data transfer – i did have to switch my ps5 off an on again as this seemed to bug out my lan connection entirely. So I deleted the current Wired Lan profile, restarted my PS5, and then set up my network connection again which fixed the issue – but this i suspect was possibly an intended software feature on Sony’s end. I would advise maybe disconnecting any LAN cables during data transfers to mitigate this

I didn’t test any Thermal production of the ssd drive however, as i didn’t have the tools to do so but from reading around this ssd drive with heatsink is the way to go, custom heatsinks offer ~15-20C reduction in cooling, however the drive with heatsink can get anywhere from ~20-30C reliably.

Loaded up Destiny 2 and everything was loading noticeabley faster than game storage – from title screen to loading into a game environment was very quick. Would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Speedy PS5
