I bought this to freplace an old wired Swann security system. Fortunately, I was able to use all the old cables and fitting the cameras was easy. There is a definite improvrment in picture quality both at night and during the day. There is no ptz connection but my ptz camera still works with the new system although I cannot steer the camera.
I’ve had Swann camera’s in the past but these are so clear during the night and day i would highly recommend them
After research bought this system as it was a established brand.
Camera set up was easy. Running the wires to the hard drive was a bit of a mission and had to buy small cable clips that held the wires.
Used a wireless adapter to connect the hard drive base unit to the home router. This was very complicated and needed lots of research and ultimately a YouTube video about the adapter to get it working. I connected a pc monitor to the hard drive to view the recording or live view. Smooth and clear.
I bought camera mount/ wall brackets to put the cameras onto.
The picture quality is very good. Clear and detailed. The cameras field of view is a bit narrow. Would have preferred it wider. Night vision is black and white normally. It becomes colour if you switch the camera light on.
The biggest disappointment is the sound recording or rather the lack of. I had to contact swann customer support to know how to switch sound recording on.
Once done I got….
Nothing..
just a wierd clicking sound. Utterly useless at recording sound.
The app view is just ok, slow and glitchy. Much slower than when viewing it straight off monitor connected to the base unit.
The app doesn’t let you do much adjustments at all. You need to always make adjustments via the base unit menus.
The menus are quite complicated and the instructions aren’t much help. It took a while to work everything out and I still believe I could set it better if I knew how.
Overall it is a good system if all you want is picture recording. If you want sound recording too then look elsewhere.
It’s been running for over 6 months and has been very reliable.
I’ve had a cctv Swann system for 8 years and it was ok decision to upgrade to new system the cameras are better as is the image
eturned because it does not have internal hard drive think this is the way they are going get you signed up to the cloud then you are ready for the pay if you want to see your stuff conveyer belt of the covenant future pictures film etc… but it for your benefit and easy access as long as you pay for it and let other access your life
brill for the price , nice to have spot light with it so night turns to day
Dead simple to set up although having instructions in every language did take some time to find the right bit! Unit is silent even when it’s writing information. Tonnes of cable to get the cameras where they need to be. Image is clear and sharp in both night vision and with the light on. Really no complaints.
I’ve fitted many of these Swann systems, they’re always updating the software each time they get better and better. This particular order was fitted to allow tenants to see what noises where outside without checking. The field of view is brilliant, the motion detection is one of the best as it uses true detection tech. I cannot say anything negative about them, until now we’ve fitted unreliable chinese knockoffs, this surpassed all expectations.
Easy to understand and install, great picture, excellent value for money
I installed a wire Swann cctv kit in my previous home and purchased this newer version for my new residence. In short I cannot fault Swann for the quality of kit, price point and ease of use. Both this kit and the previous were as simple as “plug and play”. The setup is easy and I prefer a wired system over wireless for reliability. I can easily view my cameras from my phone when I’m at home or away.
My only grip would be the app / configurations aren’t perfect. Whilst the setup and adjustments are easy the core system is lacking some useful features, for example and to my knowledge you cannot;
1. “black out” areas of a camera you don’t want to be alerted about. You are either alerted to motion in the whole picture or none at all, which is annoying. Alternative providers offer the ability for you to highlight and ignore areas you don’t want to have motion detection on.
2. In the middle of the night I often receive pings that individual cameras are offline then back online. There is no way to mute this if you have alerts on. So you might only want to be alerted to motion during the night but you’ll also receive pings about the system losing internet connection. It would be good if you could switch this setting off or if Swann had an adjustable timer where you could be alerted if the system didn’t go back online after X minutes.
I have set the system up and it was easy to set up and connect together, however if you are like me and like your cables hidden now that’s the hard part. I have had the system 2 days so far and will update my review done the line when I have had it longer but for now I think it’s a great system.
Not yet set up… extra items needed to set up like a 15 pin monitor cable, as much catt 5e as you need to get from your router to your box
I use the Swann CCTV System to cover my various animal enclosures, as there is a fair bit of wildlife where I live, and my pet parrots were getting attacked by pine martens it transpires. The cameras are effective but because of the amount of rain we get in the Highlands of Scotland, they are definitely not waterproof. Two cameras had to be returned and one of the replacement cameras stopped working and I didn’t want to complain again, so I got my friend who is an electronic engineer to strip it down and it was completely corroded inside!! We cleaned it up (vodka, not that I am recommending, better if it is 100% alcohol lol ) and managed to get it going again, but this time we have sealed round the joint and the remaining cameras too, with insulating tape, so I would strongly recommend that if they are outside, you do this from the onset. Better still, if you can shelter them a wee bit. They are otherwise, good cameras, just not as waterproof as described.
Having read some quite negative comments about the capability of this system I nearly didn’t buy it, especially the comments about the night vision.
However I’ve found the infra-red night vision to be excellent with zero ambient light provided YOU USE THE CORRECT SETTINGS!
Having installed the system (relatively simple just as long as you can get the cables out the house) I followed the idiot proof instructions and had it up and running inside a few hours.
There is a fair bit of fine tuning to do once everything is in place to suit your own requirements, and I think it’s here that some people are finding problems.
The full colour night setting does require the led lamp to be permanently on at night, and to be honest I don’t think it’s worth it.
With this setting turned off the infrared night vision becomes active when ambient light drops and this gives a much clearer picture.
I have included three photos with this review.
1) IR night vision in complete darkness.
2) Colour vision with led in complete darkness.
3) Vision without either, to show how dark it is.
All in all I’m very happy with the product and the DVR functionality, the phone app has it’s faults and limitations but that’s a different matter.
System lasted less than 14 months before problems and there customer service is very unhelpful i would not recommend buying swann products as there warranty means nothing all they seem to worry about is profits
It’s been an expensive month having to fork out for a home security system, however recent events in the neighbourhood have had ourselves and a couple of neighbours install these.
As pricey as it is ends up being, (remember you also need to either buy installation tools, cables, a simple TV monitor, maybe floodlights etc), it is worth it in the end.
The picture quality is great, even the night vision. We don’t need a flood light at the front because of a street lamp, only for the back.
The pictures I’ve added are from the phone app. You can see from the front garden how much it captures either side of the front garden, which is enough for us. One of our neighbours has a rotating camera which they can control from their phone.
You can set up email notifications. I’m still playing around with the sensor sensitivity levels as it picks up strong winds too I get email notifications and watch the recording to see a gust of wind so I just need to drop it down a level but that’s all in the back end set up which you can do.
Not long had this system since March 2020 and one of the cameras has left in water and is now not working
I have a big issue with automatic recording on some of the channels. I mentioned this to SWANN company, but I don’t think that it has been resolved. Channel 4 had to be put on manual recording.
The quality of the cameras is very good, great definition and clear picture. IR night vision is very good. Everything is included in the kit apart from a tv/monitor. The cabling is very easy to install and much more reliable than wireless which is purely dependant on your wifi signal. The only drawback is the noise of the hard drive when recording and the flashing lights to the front and rear, I just covered them up though! A really good quality mid priced system.
This product is very clear at night and has amazing photography of people walking by or an object moving. The only thing that I would like in the cameras is the integration of a mic that can record sound instead of buying a separate appliance.
he camera system is very good the picture quality is great very easy to setup and install, but the phone app is terrible push notices are hit and miss some getting them two days later, reviewing recorded is near impossible the only part of the app that works ok is live view, shame really as the rest of the system work really well, if you want a system to let you know if someone is snooping around your house dont buy this system get the something like the Ring system
Great cameras and a great quality video when looking at the footage from a TV.
The quality of the app however leaves something to be desired but still very useful to have.
I have rated this as easy to install as if you are not OCD about visible wires etc this is a very easy kit to install. If like me you want to hide all wires and place this at 4 points under the eaves of a 2 storey house then this will take some amount of heartache!
I spent a good amount of time planning my install. The most important thing is where to put your DVR box. Once you know that you can decide on the distance from the box to each camera and make sure you have enough wire from dvr to the camera. You can also ensure that you can get an ethernet cable to the box(if you want remote access from a phone/pc).
You will need some DIY expertise to run wires cleanly and safely if routing through an attic space/eaves etc. I added a wired ethernet connection from the ground floor to the first floor of my house but a powerline adaptor could be used for this.
You will need some technical expertise to open ports and forward external connections to your DVR IP address on your internet router if you want remote access. Generic information on doing this is available in the manual and online, but it is vital for access remotely.
Although quite a bit of expertise is needed to install this and get it operating as you require, it is a fantastic piece of kit and the required work was expected.
In terms of picture quality it is exactly as expected and required. The alarm notifications for certain areas of each camera picture work brilliantly, as does the motion and PIR detection.
One of my favourite things about this install is the fact that there is no third party involved in connection to your DVR remotely. As long as its powered on and online, you are connecting directly to this and not to a website that then connects to your dvr. Even if the support for this model is discontinued, the previous apps will always give you access to the dvr remotely. This is fantastic when compared to subscription based services that could change or discontinue products and deny access to old equipment.
I purchased this set because it allowed me to store recordings at home and yet log in from a computer or mobile phone. Other high profile camera systems require a monthly fee to store recordings in the cloud, I didn’t want this outgoing.
I’m still getting used to playback recordings and find it difficult to read number plates in our road outside my house, though if I find how to get the full size image on the screen (rather than freeze frame) it might be a better image. I got the set at 179 on an offer and was well pleased with this price for 4 cameras and 1tb of storage.
I’d like to be able to get it to pick up a cat by changing settings so I can see what our cat’s up to wne I’m away but it doesn’t give false triggers for small animals. Still happy with the purchase
Very easy to set up out of the box and working on my phone in about 1 hr , once I had installed and run cables for cameras etc that took me 8 hours but my house was a difficult installation because of being very old a modern house should be a piece of cake
Delivery was very fast, box was properly sealed and everything was included that was described in the listing. Easy to set up, just make sure you have all the tools, drills, cable clips, sealant etc. Set up was simple and easy to follow instructions. Very pleased with the picture quality.
Have had outdoor security cameras before, but nothing is as good as the Swann cameras. They are easy to install and operate. The images are exceptionally clear and the night time images are so clear and sharp – I live in the countryside with no street lights so is very dark and the image of myself picked up by the camera was so clear you could easily see who I was. Highly recommend these cameras (and already have to my neighbours)
I had the Swann cctv installed professionally and this was the system the installer recommended. (He had fitted the same system for my neighbour) It gives good image quality and can be viewed on my mobile phone and tablet using the home safe view app. Just add a wireless mouse to the box to save from having to do any configuration of the control box down by the television. The image quality on my tv is fine and it’s simple to find and play back any recorded footage.
The CCTV is very easy to set up, with the added benefits of being able to black out certain areas of the images for privacy. remote access from the app on the phone is excelle
Having searched around for months looking at reviews I decided on this system.
Its easy enough to install and setup. I’ve no previous experience with CCTV. Me and my good lady did it over the weekend!!!, and we installed the CCTV system aswell.
Really easy to install
Great cameras
fantastic picture quality
It’s got motion /heat detection on all cameras
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this item
Good product, easy to install. Great picture quality day or night. I have 4 cameras 2 recording 24/7 and 2 set on PIR. This gives me 10 days recording before it starts to over write. Good product and a reasonable price. Phone app also works well
Having bought a cheaper inferior system that I had multiple issues with, I reluctantly opted for this one after sending back the old one (NOT FROM THIS MAKE OR COMPANY)
My reluctance turned to joy (once i’d gone through the pain or routing the cables where I wanted them).
The set up is pain free, clear instructions guide you through every step. As a bloke who rarely looks at instructions as I feel sometimes they make things over complicated, these were short and straight to the point. I would defy anyone to go wrong with this system.
The camera images are ok, by far not the best but better than most. positioning the cameras take a bit of fiddling because of the wide angle. TIP: I have white external walls, try to aim them as far from these as possible as the IR feature reflects the white and drowns out the image. The phone app worked straight away with no fuss, I view mine from work on 4g without problems.
