I was surprised at how accurate it is keeping score and being able to tell where the dart sticks and not a neighboring number. Downside is it doesn’t recognize bounce outs very well and absolutely never records a miss on the outer perimeter of the board (easily corrected on the app).
I was hoping there would be more of a “community” forum or some Lobby on the app to play against fellow Smartboard owners around the world. It appears you have to go and open up a game then provide the specific game ID to your would be opponent in order to take advantage of the online play. Having only used in the Local setting on the app, I can not say if the online scoring is as accurate ut I do t see why it wouldn’t be.
Overall you get a better than average real dart board (not plastic squares / soft tip) that will keep accurate scores and match details / average’s for a decent price. The 2 sets of darts that come with it seem more suited to be in a child’s first dart set. They are coated in a type of rubber and are just strange looking.
If the online playability was better (or just existing) this would be 5 starts all day.

Replacement board arrived on 30th December 2022. Tested and played for a while. Used only the darts that came with the board. Have had no issues so far.
Issue on 29th December: due to issue with 25/bull not responding at all. Tested with both sets of darts, changed batteries for new. Despite all other numbers registering, 25 and bull no longer work.
However, have ordered a replacement with no issues so far. Hopefully this next one will have no issues
Posted 28th December, So we purchased this for personal use, development and education. Set everything up and went straight into using my own Phil Taylor darts. Followed the instruction to get the darts to work. My darts were magnetic for just 2 – 3 turns. Using the darts supplied worked perfect with no magnetic issues.
After doing a bit of research I found that my darts are brass barrel, steel tips. As brass is not magnetic, we believe this was impacted the charge and as we have another set of darts which are iron plated barrels and iron is extremely magnetic, we tried them.
Not only did they work perfect, but they lasted the entire night without issue.
Therefore, I would suggest using iron, aluminium or copper plated barrels or stick to the darts supplied with the board.
Every shot registered with perfect accuracy, taking into account that missing the main area of the board requires you to click missed on the app.
This board is loads of fun, came complete and on time and was easy to setup.
I gave it a 4 only because it states any steel tip darts work yet I have found that the dart barrel plating can impact the boards accuracy, which is something everyone would want to avoid so I’m not sure why unicorn don’t advise to use the above recommended barrel types.
Hope this helps anyone having issues!
I was worried about getting this board due to issues people have had but it’s a great board, the app could be better feels like more games could have been added but has the normal typical games, I’ve had a few missed hits with my own darts (could be the coating on the dart tips) using the ones that come with the board and not had a missed detection yet. Great with the target corona magnetic light. Also cast the scorebuddy app to your TV and you can see it on a bigger screen I cast it to my 93″ projector screen through my fire stick.
Took the risk of buying it and it seems ok so far. Price is a bit vertical though.
Saw a few low score reviews for this board and was a little concerned about how well it would work.
Works fine for us with most set of darts with at least 95% of darts registering; even better with the darts that come with the board.
Make sure you use the built in magnatizer on the darts… Do not use any other magnets… For us we only need to do this every week or so.
App could be better, but does the job.
I’m not sure why there are so many negative reviews on what is in my opinion a fantastic way to enjoy darts.
As you can see from the video, I’ve set up my ipad on brackets to the side of the dartboard and connect them both via Bluetooth. I’ve found that the bluetooth connection is 99.9% perfect in that location, however if you place the ipad further away it can disconnect, also make sure you stick some good quality batteries in the dartboard, as when they run low, connection drops off (as you’d expect).
Having been to Flight Club venues around London a few times, I researched the possibility of setting up something similar at home, and found this. You can spend 2000 on a Flight Club set up with the cameras if you want, but I thought for under 200 this has to be worth a go, and I’m glad I did. Yes, it’s not as good as Flight Club, it doesn’t video me and show it on a TV when I throw a match winning dart, but this is perfect for a home set up.
I’ve played several all night darts sessions with people of varying skills, and the app adds a huge amount of fun to it. If you’re playing against someone who isn’t a regular darts player it adds even more fun for them as you’re not worrying about maths in a game of 501, and the other fun games on the app such as Cricket or Halve It means that non-darts people can hit the board and still have a laugh.
Yes the numbers are plastic, yes the outside of the board doesn’t register as a miss, and yes the odd numbers are blue and not green… but none of that matters when you’re playing with mates and having a beer.
On a regular dartboard, practising on your own is dull, with the app on this smartboard you can play against the computer, and now with the app update you can play online, all of which is much more fun and better for practice.
They could do with a few more games in the app, currently only six, maybe do what all the other apps do and charge a small fee for premium additional games, hopefully that will happen one day.
If you’re looking for a dartboard at home for fun with your mates, and to enhance your practice when playing darts alone, look no further than this.
Bought this for family Christmas present. We have had hours of fun playing darts especially as we have been in lockdown.
The numbers do break easily and ping off if you hit them with a dart. Buy extra packets of numbers (we did )
The darts that come with board are not that good, you need to buy better darts.
We also bought a spongy surround to save the walls from dart holes.
It is a bit expensive but we love i
Was bit skeptical when buying this expensive dart board. But glad to say the scorebuddy app works brilliantly and it’s pretty accurate and very enjoyable to use on my large ipad, great visual and sound effects. The plastic numbers are a bit of a disappointment, they fall off and also break if hit by dart, but replacement set is available at low price so not too worried. The technology is great, so go for it.
I was a little concerned after reading some of the reviews. I’ve played darts for years all over the country and wasn’t sure what to expect. Its fantastic. Only day 1 but I’ve thrown hundreds of darts and it’s been about 99.9% accurate. Only issue is it has registered some bounce outs as scores. But its an easy fix on the app. My only issue with the app is the sound effects. They aren’t great and difficult to mute. The app could be better. But, on the whole I’m very impressed with this board and technology.
It works! that’s all I can say up to now. Price is brilliant compared to other auto scoring systems, I’ll try and come back in 6 months and let you know the condition of the board.
Really had some fun with this filled Christmas evenings especially as we can’t go out tier 4 . Would definitely recommend it but I feel they should have move instructions with it apart from that we’ve had fun fun fun with i
Flawless board endless fun lots of games and great if your practicing on your own with out the need to keep count .
Only one thing I can say as a negative is that if your dart lands at an angle and ends up under the wire sometimes it can register as a different number or no score but the score can be amended on the score app .
Great purchase for the dart enthusiast.
Overall very happy, the board function is great and I haven’t seen any issues in terms of recording scores etc – think it has missed 1 dart over the hundreds of legs I have played so far.
Board – let’s itself down with the little things, the plastic numbers are poor and fly off – I have replaced with the wire number ring from a previous dartboard. You need to purchase the ‘wall spacers’ separately to keep the board nice and sturdy and prevent movement – these gripes are only minor but you would expect them as standard given the cost.
App – both equally good/bad in equal measure. The functionality that is there works well, the games are good and are good fun for practice sessions etc BUT there are basics that you would expect that are just not present:
– When playing an 01 game the app doesn’t track/display the number of legs/set won or lost – this is really basic and can’t believe it isn’t available.
– Stats, when you have a board that records score/position of dart in relation to target number etc then you would expect a number of useful (and some not so useful) statistics – this is severely lacking, you get PPD – doesn’t even track your historical performance in the other non 01 games.
Overall I am very happy with the boards functionality in terms of recording the score. I am a little disappointed with the quality of the board itself given the cost. I am massively disappointed with the app, there is so much basic functionality missing before you even start to think about the possibility of online competitions etc.
The last app update was over a year ago since I don’t expect to much more in the space unfortunately.
I dont know for its durability… I have read other prosts and reviews telling that it has durability only for 1 year (with use about 3 times a week). Maeby Unicorn should consider to sell replacement parts, in order not to buy new product when the old parts gets destroyed, after use.
I have it one month now and everything works fine. Not just fine, but SUPER!!! I LOVE it! I think that when it will be destroyed, i will buy a new one
I debated buying this board for a number of weeks and thankfully I took the plunge.
As a keen arrowsmith, and a recent visitor to Flight Club, I was keen to own a similar board that took the pain out of scoring. The box contains the board itself, two sets of basic darts and flights, a wall bracket, three batteries and an oche mate oche measuring tape. The included darts are a bit rubbish, so thankfully the board works fine with any steel (tungsten tipped) darts.
I proceeded to screw my usual borad bracket to the Smartboard, entered the batteries into the board and hey-presto, was ready to dart. You press the little button, which has actually been moved to the edge of the board, futher away from the number 15 than the pictures show thankfully, and load up the Score Buddy app. The board connects to the app via bluetooth. You then magnetise each dart once before throwing can proceed. You achieve this by placing the point of the dart in the magnetiser next to the button on the board. You can feel the dart being magnetised. Then simply select a game to play on the app and a robot opponent (levels 1 to 9).
I’d say from my experience the board registers 97% of all throws. If the board misses one, you can simply place it firmly and quickly into the board in the correct segment to score it correctly. I wouldn’t have expected the error rate to be zero to be honest, but its low enough to be very impressive.
The app isn’t bad but Unicorn could do with updating with new games and better stats. But as a method of scoring for a one off game, it’s fine.
I’ve read other reviewers comments on how long they think the board would last with regular use and the way the wires overlap the 25 ring, and they are probably right. Do you get more bounceouts on this board than a diamond cut board? Yes. Would a standard board last longer? Yes. Does a standard diamond tipped board provide as much fun as the Smartboard? Heck no, not by a long shot!
It’s not worth 250 but at the reduced price of 169 it’s closer to the correct price.
I’d say if you like darts, and want to improve by playing a robot on the app, then it’s a no-brainer. Also, if like in the promo video you want to attract novices round your house to compete in fun games, go for it too. I’m actually pleasantly surprised by this board and and am very pleased I purchased it. Game on!
Bought and installed this recently and whilst most of the time it works fine it’s annoying to discover that a couple of the darts provided with the pack don’t magnetise well at all. Having to magnetise a number of darts with every throw it whats stops this from being 5-star. I’m not sure if it’s the darts or the magnetiser!!
This is my first amazon review, fantastic bit of kit I used this board for an hour tonight with no problems whatsoever synched with the app easily and really can’t fault it, it’s perfect for someone who loves playing darts but Is held back with the scoring it really takes the pain of doing the math when you’re really not that good at it the app has a selection of decent fun games to mix it up a bit and is free. A drop in price and I think these would sell like hot cakes
Wow Darts reinvented. Following a trip to Flight Club I was on the look out for a smart dartboard and unicorn then came to my rescue. This is superb the Bluetooth technology makes it and brings darts in to the 21st century. Great games on the app and the Bluetooth works a treat. Great fun for all the family. LETS PLAY DARTS
Great product. Works really well and connects so easily. You just need to clear the app away when finished and reload from start when you want to play again. Such a good board.
If you want to lose your husband this is the product for you. A big darts fan and a lover of anything gadget and technical – this is the perfect item. Since we’ve invested in one I’ve barely seen him which personally is a bad thing but I know there are couples out there who wish to spend less time with one another so this is perfect.
Pros: good quality, nice finish, the tech works
Cons: the button to magnetise the dart and switch players is on the front and so can be hit by a dart (and fall out), the numbers are plastic and break quite easily.
