Great pocket knife, easy to select tools, and very good quality.
What can I? It turned up quickly. It is well made, as I excepted from this make, not like many other makes and nothing like as expensive as Leathman. It is legal in the UK. Getting some of the bits out can be a fiddle. Nothing too bad but long finger nails could find it a problem. The blades are sharp. Not the hardest steel but shouldn’t be too hard to sharpen when the time comes. All in all exactly as I expected and will live a long and useful life in my pocket as long as I don’t loose this one.
Always carry one. Very useful land inexpensive to replace if lost.
Bought this one for my daughter who is emigrating to Canada so will not be able to borrow mine any more
I have had Swiss Army knives over many years and they are very good and value for money
This is a Victorinox so you would not expect anything less that 5*. For the number of tools/functions it’s pretty good value for money.
When it arrived my wife said “what do you want on of those for, you’ll never use it”, she was right, I can’t get it off her, she uses it all the time, ” can I have YOUR knife I need to do this with it”, might have to buy another one for xmas. A present to myself from myself.
This Swiss Army knife is the best I have come
across in terms of usefulness and quality of
construction. I use it all the time for all kinds
of jobs both indoors and out.
Bought it as a present because used to have one myself and liked its sturdiness an practicality.
It’s a pocket knife, made by the world’s best pocket knife manufacturers. End of story.
All fantastic. Needed multi function, especially Knife, phillips screw driver and corkscrew
It’s a classic and is what it is . Well made , functional and will last for ever or until you lose it.
The fun is just picking which model you want.
Good range of feature tools which are generally of use in daily working.
I have had this version of Swiss Army knife for over 30 years. It has all the things on it I find useful. All I have added is a small screwdriver that fits in the corkscrew.
Love this knife will be really useful everyday. Excellent service came earlier than was supposed to.
Quality, compact, and easy to use, my husband will love i
Had my original one of these for years, great steel that holds a very good edge for a long time, very handy to have, smaller and more convenient than my leatherman.
HOWEVER- one criticism- victorinox have changed the magnifying glass , the old ” mount” was more of a flexible plastic and was sturdy, this version has a clear brittle plastic mounting and on one version I had the lens fell out and was lost, I’m assuming a cost cutting exercise and a mistake, old version was better – otherwise a useful tool
For me the main distinguishing factor about this knife is the small magnifying glass, the remaining items are all fairly standard Swiss Army Knife features.
I had one of these for years, so (when it was confiscated at Jersey airport!) I had no doubt about replacing it. The corkscrew is not so useful these days but the neat and compact combo of blades, scissors and screwdrivers is so handy, not just for camping and other outdoors activities, but for everyday use, and the price is great. Friends are surprised and delighted when I pull it out of my handbag and fix whatever the current problem is!
I just love this knife, the Explorer, it does what I want it for & more, with only one tool missing the ‘Saw’ but for a four layer knife it fits nicely in your pocket and doesnt weigh too much. It’s a wonderful, useful knife. I use it all the time – from opening my beer bottles to opening letters to magnifying small print with great screwdrivers and the scissors are so sharp & accurate. A must get tool. Brilliant.
Perfect size and weight, comfortable to carry in your pocket and unless you need to saw down trees, has a tool for most jobs. I’ve got the bigger work champ but it’s just to large to carry around, but this one still has the all important cork screw!
Despite our nanny-state laws, I have used a SA penknife for many years and consider it to be a key part of any toolkit. Hopefully, I will remember to remove this one from my carry-on bag in future!
Very pleased with this purchase. Does everything you’d hope for, really handy to have in the wash bag for travel emergencies. Blades are super sharp and finally have a solution for the age old issue of forgetting a corkscrew.
My son absolutely loves his knife and uses it around the house for the screwdrivers, scissor, and outside for cutting and exploring with the magnifying glass
Bought one years ago–it was confiscated by airport security. The agent played with it while I walk through 🙁 Sooo happy with this gift from my honey! I can use this for everything I need; the magnifying glass is quite handy! Thank you!
Love this knife been very useful very good quality and should last a long time
The magnifying glass is rubbish which is a shame as I chose this over the model with the saw but I can live with i
Has virtually every function I need, especially the magnifying glass. Some of the functions are still quite stiff to pull out, but I shall try what the instructions said about this, and hope that with more use will loosen them a little. The keyring attachment is useful too. Everyone should have one of these. I did have another one, with slightly fewer functions but lost it somewhere.
First class pen knife, looks and works very well, delivery was a bit strange as the delivery updates did not correspond with the actual delivery, but arrived fine and before it should have according to the delivery update.
having a tonne of swiss army knives (some people like watches I like these!) I bought one on a whim when it was 22 delivered and couldn’t resist! this is somewhere close to a swisschamp without the metal file, saw, pliers and that ridiculous fish scaler they insist on putting on the more expensive models, this one is bang on for most uk EDC applications and the scissors are a real knockout in terms of sharpness and accuracy when cutting even fine materials (leatherman take note!). I also really like the phillips driver that comes out 180 degrees to the tool unlike some of the cheaper ones which stop at 90 degrees (personal preference). if you get a good deal on one then buy buy buy! failing that the swiss champ is the most empowering piece of engineering you can shove onto your belt besides the excellent swiss tool (love mine by the way even if it is heavy and not uk legal due to its locking blades 🙁
Good product but really sharp which I guess I good if your actually stuck in the wilderness. Bought for my 12 year old son but it’s abit to old for him, he cut his finger trying to few the knife out, I confiscated it and also cut my finger trying to get the knife out. Overall a good product for the price.
I bought this as a present for my cousin. I have used and worn out about 4 of these knives in the past 30 years. The wear is from continual sharpening as I was a fisherman and used them for cutting ropes. I never went to sea without one in my oilskins.
Bought for my young lad as a “penknife for life”. Excellent piece of engineering. Only marked down by a star as the plastic magnifing lense isn’t as sturdy as it could have been if it was metal framed.
I had one of these for about 10 yrs and loved it, very sturdy and well made but l lost it about 2 yrs ago and never got round to replacing it, well now l have and l’m feeling the love all over again, the springs are much better quality than any other l’ve had and the tools are just superb, getting a pouch as well so this can come with me where ever l go 🙂
The explorer is a great knife if like me you love the swisschamp , but don’t always want to carry a knife that bulky ? I like the magnifying lense and the front layer Philips head screwdriver . Check around as the price can be more than the swisschamp , which is crazy …
I have owned one of these knives since I was a boy. This must be my 4th one and is as usual great quality . Iam now retired so won’t be used so much but sure it will last a long time.
I expected quality, a sharp blade and it to look the business. Ticked all the boxes. When I had this for less than a minute you know why Victrinox is deemed the best.
Most things have been said about this product already. It is sturdy, well made and of course carries the Swiss Army cachet. I bought it as a present and perhaps its true value will not be realised until a donkey is troubled with a stone in its hoof on a wet night in Santiago. Maybe a lonely night in a Manchester bed-sit will be saved by the cork screw. They are wonderful things which cut spear and poke an autobiography.
Bought as a present but the feedback I’ve bad from recipient has been very positive. He particularly likes that, whilst having so many useful features, it is not overly heavy in his pocket and is also extremely easy to use.
Met my expectations of a high quality Swiss product. There is just the right variation and size of tools, this feels like a really well balanced device. I decided to give it to my friend who carries it everywhere (check your countries knife laws to be safe). Tbh I actually would like another one; maybe in the future when I get a job I will purchase one for myself.
No reason to give less than five so I gave it a five.
I use this tool every day, not entirely sure what I am supposed to do with the reamer or magnifying glass (I use the parcel hook for removing key caps on keyboards) but generally it is a fantastic product, I would probably get the swiss champ over this though.
This knife seemed to be of excellent quality and arrived far quicker than anticipated (although most of Amazon’s purchases arrive very promptly).
As this was a present for a friend who had lost his last one I cannot give a personal opinion. however my friend was delighted with the knife and says that it is every bit as good as his last one, therefore 5 stars.
The blades have a nice sharpness to them that lasts which is nice, i don’t use the larger blade as often but i was pleasantly surprised to find that after everything i used the smaller blade on it was still sharp! Not sharp enough that i will cut my finger the moment it’s placed on my index for example, then again i only need to apply a little sideways pressure and i’m in trouble haha.
The magnifying glass has come in handy for a splinter or two and it helps with any text too small for me to read without squinting and moving my face in close and the tweezers have also come in handy, same with the various screwdrivers.
Overall it’s a decent bit of kit, well worth the money for the usefulness and quality.
This is one of the Victorinox models I consider to be optimal for urban use. It has two knives for everyday cutting purposes that one might need to do. The scissors are really good too for everyday urban use.
Other functions such as a dedicated screwdriver might come handy from time to time. The bottle and wine opener can be good if you like to drink. The can opener might come in handy, but I think it’s more for people that like to do some camping. Never used the reamer and hook, but I do use the magnifier as well from time to time.
This is a very good model for urban use, it can be a little bulky if your work requires you to dress in suits. In that case I think the Climber or other Alox models, such as Alox Cadet or Pioneer might be better for you. There are also the classic range in both regular and Alox finishes, but I think they are too small to be useful 🙂
I bought this after buying my leatherman surge multi tool. The leatherman is probably a more capable multi tool, but the Victorinox still gets taken with me 9/10 instead because it’s smaller and also conforms to UK knife laws.
The knives are sharp, the tool feels very well made. Even though none of the tools lock in place, the design of it means the tools hold in place really when pulled out all the way, which i like a lot.
Two blades is great, especially for opening packages where you may not want a big blade that would risk damaging the goods.
Would buy again in a heartbeat if lost or stolen.
Just did not know what to buy my environmental student son for Christmas. He loved it! It had lots of gadgets that he could use. It would have been useful if it had had a ring to attach to a keyring or belt. He was using it within minutes of opening it to open his other presents!!
I ordered this product as a Christmas present for my dad he loves it. I would recommend this product to anyone he wants a handy army knife that has many basic functions i.e scissors and a corkscrew etc… Overall very happy with product.
Bought this as a replacement for my old SAK “Tinker” which was mislaid by someone at work and was at a loss as I’d used it everyday for one thing or another. My new Victorinox “Explorer” is in my opinion a good and practical tool for Home, Work or Camping and having owned a SAK since childhood this has to be a must as the blades are sharp, quality scissors, bottle/tin opener to mention a few also it’s not bulky in your pocket. Since I’ve owned this item the Tweezers and Magnifying lens have been a great help with removing the splinters after work, Victorinox quality would recommend this Knife.
This is a great knife if your trying to keep weight and bulk to a minimum. The quality is as you would expect from a brand like Victorinox. The blades do need a rub on a stone fairly regularly just to keep the edge on them and keeping it clean and dry with an occasional drop of light oil will see it last for years. You cannot go wrong with this knife in my opinion.
This is a fantastic quality product delivered quickly. You get what you pay for with a penknife and this one does not disappoint – not too many tools but the ones you get are useful and of sufficient quality to actually work!
Recently, my wife purchased for me a birthday present of a Victorinox Swiss Army knife from Amazon. My old “Swiss Army Knife” had been taken from me when I forgot to transfer it into my “Hold Luggage”, whilst checking in for a flight from Glasgow to Exeter. I was very sad to lose it as I had had that knife for more years than I care to remember and I kept putting my hand into my pocket for it
only to realise it was no longer there.
Indeed it had been my companion and helper through all sorts of situations. I had ‘lost’ it more than once;(once in my allotment more than 20 years ago, yet when I found it after several weeks out in all weathers, it was, after a clean up and oil, as good as ever!) I indeed had had it so long that the Swiss emblem in white on the red background was completely worn away, yet as long as I kept the blade sharpened it always came up ‘trumps’. And the tools on it had many times proved very useful, especially the corkscrew and bottle opener!
I’m pleased to say that this new knife – the Explorer – is as good as the old knife with amazingly sharp blades and in addition to all the tools on the ‘old one’, also has a very handy magnifying glass, which in spite of being only 17mm diameter is extremely effective. And as the eyesight of this 76 year old is not as good as it was years ago, its very useful!
WELL DONE VICTORINOX! And thanks Amazon for your usual swift service.
Used it a lot in Italy recently for essential tasks such as opening wine bottles and cutting cheese. Tried to light the BBQ using the magnifying glass and got some smoke but no fire. It really was a boon as the place we stayed in lacked both sharp knives and scissors. Just make sure you transport it in your baggage hold luggage or some Customs Officer may be writing the next review.
he famous “Swiss Army Knives” of Victoinox are rightly aclaimed world wide for the ingenous design and practical value. All my family each own an assortment of various models. We prefer the traditional red metal designs rather than some of the fancy flamboyant additions to their excellent range which we think detract from the practical usefulnessof their products.
I bought this product for a birthday present. It arrived quickly and was perfect – all of the features were easy to access and it was a lot lighter in weight than I had originally thought. A good quality product.
I researched the different types of army knives and decided to buy this one as a christmas gift for my husband. It’s brilliant and has a great range of tools. The price is excellent as they’re really expensive everywhere else. It’s just a shame that I couldn’t buy one in a gift box, but otherwise a great buy!
Purchased for my husband. A very useful knife. Even the magnifying glass came in handy within the first week of using the knife. Lots of useful tools and all in a handy size that will not split your pocket!
Really useful penknife. Thats all that really needs to be said! Lots of tools in a compact yet sturdy case. The knives are really good quality (sliced open my thumb while inspecting it and still got the scar!). Its everything you’d expect from victorinox – I expect this knife will be with me my entire life or until I loose it. Has a decent number of useful gadgets without becoming to bulky or unecessary.
Once a boy scout always a boy scout…..had one of these when I was young and lost it on a camp. Ended “upgrading” to a Leatherman Charge TTi, which is probably the lightest from the full size multitools but over the years it began to feel too bulky and heavy (232g) for everyday carry. Decided to get this Explorer, didn’t need to read much on the quality and guarantee on these knives as I was very accustomed to them. Did take me awhile to choose which one would be best and by far this was the best bet. For its size (4 layer, 91mm), weight (105 g) and functionality, I think its one of the best everyday carry knives in the Victorinox range. Yes its missing a saw but in the urban jungle I think the trade off with the magnifying glass is a much better option, both functionally and reduces weight. Also I have a saw on my Leatherman if I’m going camping but to date I think Ive used the magnifying glass much more in the last few weeks compared to the saw on the Leatherman that I’ve had for 5years. One more important thing, this is one of the few swiss army knives that have a phillips driver at the top of the handle rather than mid way on the back, makes huge difference in the functionality of the screwdriver.
Ive also purchased the mini screwdriver (3) that inserts into the corkscrew and theres a small hole to store a straight pin near the corkscrew hinge so now its closer to the explorer plus (which i can’t seem to get here in the UK) with the exception of the ballpoint pen.
All in all, its a great knife, razor sharp, easily pocketable and doesn’t weigh you down like other knives with more functions (most of which you don’t use). Best ever.
Having lost my 30 year old Explorer knife recently was really pleased to find its more recent replacement amongst the excellent Victorinox range . This knife contains all the facilities I need and use on a regular basis , so well made , strong and really compactively useful .
Got this to replace a less well equiped Swiss army knife inadvertently left in my shoulder bag when flying Heathrow to Belfast. (as an aside Heathrow did not appear to have a problem with a penknife if under 4″ but Belfast international confiscated it on the return flight and seemed surprised Heathrow let it past). A penknife is not a thing I often use, but I do miss one when its not there.
This model is equiped with all manner of useful gadgets (and also some which appear pointless unless you’re gutting a whale or sewing a leg back on)so has been used far more than my original. Overall an excellant buy and a great price. Delivery as ever within a few days of order.
Recommended, just don’t leave it in your bag when flying.
I purchased this swiss-army knife for general use and it arrived promptly in the post. Victorinox have a lifetime guarantee on all their products which is an added bonus. It came nicely packaged with a small instruction guide showing the various different blades/tools etc. which was quite handy. All the tools are sharpened and the whole swiss army knife is very efficient and smart. A worthy purchase which I am sure will last for many years to come.
I lost my previous Swiss Army Knife and replaced it with this one. At last there is one with a Phillips screwdriver instead of having to use the small screwdriver on the can opener. Amazingly sharp blades. I wonder, does anyone use the ‘carrying hook’ or the can opener?
Small enough to be handy and pocketable but big enough to fit the important tools without carrying much dead weight. Only slight question marks are the hook and Philips driver which could have made way for the more useful saw (you can use other tools to replicate both functions anyway).
Exceptional quality in fit, finish and quality of steel used – if you’ve never seen them before, the blades maintain an amazing gloss and edge for years, the small blade making an excellent stand-in for a scalpel – that come as standard on all Victorinox kit. Great value tool.
