I bought this to use as a new Startup Disk for my Mac. Seems to be working fine so far.
I use this as my time machine backup drive on my M1 iMac plugged into thunderbolt port and it works great.
Bought as external hard drive back-up for my older iMac. It is easy to set up even though the boxed instructions were not particularly helpful and I had to discover where the the correct usb connector for my older iMac was hidden! One connected to my iMac, the set-up was straightforward.
Extremely easy to use. I bought this to backup my Macbook. No problem using the mac time machine and backed up Mac with no issues arising.
Nice compact hard drive to chuck all your stored photos/videos. Has password protection too.
Struggled to be able to move my photos from my Mac
An excellent external HD with 2TB of memory, a cable from type-B USB and the one on the HD itself. It also comes with an adaptor from Type-B to Type-C to allow everyone with a new-ish computer to quickly plug it in.
Plugged into the back of my M1 iMac opened time machine app, clicked select disk and straightforward from there. I’d previously tried an SSD disk and got an error which meant I had to unmount a volume, which proved impossible even using the disk utility and terminal. This disk far superior.
Very pleased with purchase. In my case 2 terabyte is more than enough for backup. Time machine will back up multiple copies (hourly, daily, weekly…etc) until drive full.
I’m much happier. I’ll see how it goes over time but it seems fine.
For anyone with a Mac who isn’t au fait with the technicalities this is a very simple bit of kit to use – you do indeed just plug it in and open Time Machine (it may indeed even do that for you, I can’t recall). Anyone who does know what they’re doing however might just as well save a few bob by buying the plain My Passport or similar and formatting it themselves, or if the drive is too big partition the excess (1Tb would have been ample for me as I have <300Gb of data but wasn't available at the time, so I had to pay extra for the 2Tb one). I may know the terminology but that's the extent of it and I'd only end up in a cold sweat if I tried to fiddle!
This is my third Passport for Mac - my back-up back-up [in the cupboard] is still going strong but the other which was plugged into my iMac and had been chugging away quite happily for the past year suddenly developed a fault for no apparent rhyme or reason and said it was useless, hence the need for a replacement. Moral - one back-up may not be enough!
So much space, it’s unreal!
It can get slightly warm, but not really noticeable. It’s whisper quiet too! Compact, affordable, definitely worth the purchase.
