Just what I wanted. Used as an upgrade to a 1TB SN850. Fast trouble free installation. On paper probably the best pcie gen 4 ssd available and in practice so far no reason to doubt that.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersMore than doubles your core storage capacity for games. The PS5 is great but it comes with very limited core storage, given the increasing size of modern video games. Instructions are ok but I found plenty good guides on YouTube. It’s pretty easy to install (with due care). Works perfectly and even feels faster than the original SSD. Absolutely delighted with it. I would suggest setting it as your preferred drive for PS5 game downloads.

Easy to stall and easy enough to clone my old drive too it nice speed but someway short of the advertised speeds and this was tested using its own Speedtest software that comes with the drive temp have been good and I have had no thermal throttling even after a long gaming sessions so it is well buil

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersIf you do your research the consensus is that the top two NVMe’s are this or the Samsung 990 Pro. I have both and the performance difference between the two at this level is negligible. I’ll report back in time to compare the durability of both. However would say that as a brand, I have never had a WD drive fail m, I like with Samsung

Compatible with ps5, which doesn’t test the full read write speeds this is capable of but super quick to copy data to and from and can play games directly from the SSD.
Expansion is a must for games these days and this sits nicely into the ps5 and is easy to install.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersFitting this unit into a PS5 is about as fuss free as you can get. From taking the ssd out of its box to fitted and finished was about 5 minutes…….all you need is a small pozi screwdriver, that’s it……the cover slips and skids off ,the ssd cover is right in front of you,you undo 1 screw, lift off metal cover, remove the screw inside the cover on the left with the height washer, clip the ssd in at an angle ,refit the height washer and screw, the the metal plate cover, refit the plastic PS5 cover, reply in all cables and your nearly done.start up the PS5 and the console will recognise the ssd, just format it and ,hey, your done….then enjoy your faster and 2tb memory…….happy days….

It does exactly what it says. You need this expansion in your life. If you are looking for extra space without sacrificing performance this is it. Got a PS5? Great now you can have 10-15 extra digital games. Got bored of your PS5 get it out and stick it in your PC and enjoy the extra storage. You need this extra terabyte (or 2) in your digital life.

I had been looking for a upgrade for the Playstation 5 harddrive as most know the games are huge in size when I recently found out about these.
Found a YouTube vid on how to install which took me less than only ten minutes . What is needed is a mini screwdriver set or a Phillips one to take out a couple of screws and put them back. After installation and turn the console on it will prompt you to format which is quick. My concern was how long to move the games..and it’s super fast.. Modern warfare 2 179 GIG took less than a minute or so.. very happy with this purchase.

The performance of this SSD is really solid and compliments a mid-high end build. Not much better is available for PCIE 4.0 and pricing very competitive against inferior drives. Only other one to consider is Samsung 990 PRO. Toss of a coin or price difference.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersI’ve been looking into getting extra storage for my PS5 for a while now so when I saw this in the prime day sale i couldn’t pass it up! 120 for 2TB seemed like a bargain and it’s so much cheaper than buying the PlayStation branded SSD storage sticks. I’m a big call of duty gamer and if you are too then you know the games are massive and take up so much storage space so it’s honestly just perfect. it only took seconds to transfer a couple games like Fortnite and MK1 for an example and I’m so impressed with it! It takes only a couple minutes to install the hardest part will probably be taking off your faceplates but once that’s done it’s so easy to clip in and get back into things. It gave me the option to format it for my PS5 as soon as I booted it back up and I was all up and running again! I couldn’t recommend this enough

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for PS5!

Before buying a PS5 I knew I needed a SSD to expand the memory. So after much research I decided on the 2TB WD_Black SN850X with Heatsink. One of the main reasons I got this one is almost all comparisons and reviews I read said that this was better than the official PS5 licensed version. And I have no complaints. Very easy to install and format there seems to be no difference in playing games stored on the factory drive or the WD ssd (both fast). Definitely worth buying as games these days games need storage space to be played, and usb drives can only be used to store PS5 games.

My grandson and I installed the Heatsink between us, following the helpful video. Bit scary taking the cover off and clipping it back on but we managed. Really good to have the extra storage so I don’t have to worry about whether I have room for new games. Very pleased.

Amazing piece of tech to add inside my PS5. Transferred games over from system storage to this in no time (eg: 70GB took 30sec), and each game definitely seemed to load up quicker than when loaded from system storage. Very pleased I brought this

I bought this for a new self-build computer and I was not disappointed. The drive is incredibly fast. previouosly on a mechanical hard drive it would take me 2.5 to 3 minutes to clone a virtual computer. Now with two of these WD M.2 drives in the time is down to 15 seconds. These drives are incredibly quick.

Very easy to install (hardest bit was taking the cover off the playstation!). Plenty of storage now and seamless to read and load games (transferred about 60gb of game data to it after formatting and it took about 8 mins). Don’t bother with the dedicated playstation drive (about 25-30 more expensive) as this drive prompts you to format it as soon as you turn the console on and does it all for you.

Easy to install in the PS5 following a YouTube “How-to”. Took less than 5 mins. PS5 automatically formats within a minute. Added 1TB storage for games to the existing 680GB of usable space. Games can be played directly from the drive. Or can be moved onto console storage, which typically transfers a 50GB game in around 30 seconds. I have it set to automatically download ps5 titles to the console storage and ps4 to M2. All good, no problems or crashes.

Went for the 2TB with heatsink for my PS5, requires a small philips screwdriver and 5 mins of your time to install. Good size memory for the price and speeds of about 6,300mb p/second give or take, so faster than the stock PS5 SSD. All in all, fully recommend

Bought this to expand the onboard storage on my PS5, and it’s turned out great.
Installation was very easy, there is an official guide that walks you through it on Sony’s website, and there’s loads of videos on youtube that show you how to do it in about 5 minutes with a screwdriver.
The performance so far has been great, with no noticeable lagging when I’m playing games. The drive is very high performance so it can easily keep up with the requirements of current games.

Really simple to attach and set up as the ps5 recognised and formatted straight away.
You can then select which drive you want to be used for certain data and don’t need to worry about having to delete data to free up space for new COD game updates. Great update and 1TB is enough for my current usage 🙂

Got this M.2 yesterday and installed it today. Installed Crystal Disk Mark and it come in at 7.3gbs read and 6.7gbs write. Unreal speed. I purchased the 4TB drive and got it at a decent price. When this first came on sale it was over 800. Now Amazon have it on offer for 265. I always check Amazon first me for everything and 9.9 times outta 10 they are cheaper than everyone out there. So whatever this drive is going for now on Amazon you won’t get it cheaper anywhere else. Free delivery. And alot quicker and safer delivery than anybody else too.

Excellent NVME drive. Brought the 2TB version with hear sink. The PCI 4 drives are offering good value for money at the moment (presumably because the PCI 5 drives are coming onto the market). Only thing I didn’t like with this drive is it runs a lot hotter than my old Samsung 970 EVO plus. If I had the choice I would have gone for the Samsung 990 pro as its slightly faster and runs cooler. However as usual Samsung are asking a premium for this drive and how can they justify it being 65 more expensive than this drive with a heat sink when the gain are so marginal. Yes I know the prices are fluctuating a lot so it may not be that much difference when you read this review.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersWD_Black SN850X 2TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 is a must have if you have a PS5 because the storage capacity is so limited on purchase of a new playstation 5 console. This I feel is failed to be mentioned in any advertisement of this console which I feel really should be mentioned as the expansion SSD is an absolute must from the get go.

Even if you have no technical experience you will be able to install this with 5 minutes including the actual setup of the software updates and storage option for new games and apps.
There are more than plenty of you tube how to videos to help you though the included instruction information with this purchase is simple to follow.

Why a USB SSD cannot be used as for this task as it was on the PS4 is beyond me? USB SSD can only be used for storage only and not able to plug and play sadly but the WD 2TB is an acceptable option even if a little expensive it is totally worth it.
Maybe wait for Amzon to have a sale before buying this if your financial situation is like many this day and age a bit restricted for disposable funds.

I have not noticed any difference in gaming from the expansion drive than from the original drive that Sony has installed from the factory.

Overall verdict: 100% needed on every PS5 Consoles so definitely buy an expansion SSD even a 1TB will be plenty to save and install quite a few games.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersSo, earlier I bought a 4TB NVME from Crucial , the P3. ALL the cheaper NVME’s that DONT have DRAM as is the case with the P3, will give painfully slow write speeds after you fill up the first half of the drive.

Once I started filling the latter half of the P3 I was getting between 80-90MB/S which is about 35% LESS than I get with my old Toshiba tradition HD ….it was truly woeful 🙁
    I had to return it.
But lets not forget it’s half the price, give or take, of this WD NVME.

So I returned the P3 and bought this WD.
    It’s a lot faster thank God !
I moved my Steam library, 1TB worth, from my old SSD and was getting a good 500MB/s average write speed.
The temps, on a hot day with the sun burning through the window onto my PC, never got over 64C which I think is not bad. I used the heatsink supplied with my mobo so nothing fancy.

So you pays your money and get your choice !

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent .... Gaming use

Placed into a PS5 to expand the capacity, the speed of the drive was just below the max speed thats advertised i personally thought it would be slower to be honest however, it gets the job done.
The NVME was chunky thanks to the heatsink which is what i was after considering how hot these sticks do get and as i was placing this inside a compartment just for peace of mind i wanted to disperse the heat better which this personally does well.
Ive got one of these in my desktop which has been used for a couple of years without issue so im hoping for the same.

Took literally 2- 3 mins to transfer 150GB file over to the stick.

Overall if your looking to upgrade the storage on a system or PS5 look no further. personally would recommend the heatsink version had no issues with the 2 Ive purchased now and if my memory serves me well (which in some cases doesn’t) i believe this does come with a 5 year warranty with WD
