Sehr leise
Quite a decent sized unit, but not too heavy or clonky that you can’t take it from room to room which I like. It can also be wall mounted so that can make it quite unobtrusive in a room. The noise level is not too distracting and you would hardly notice it when there are things going on in the room. For a room at night I think it is quieter than thee cooling fan that we run in the summer on hot nights, so not too noisy. It is very effective. The app is easy to install and to sync up with and it gives you the air quality in the room in real time. This is very useful and good to keep a track of. This would be good in a small office or good to use in the home when you have visitors to give you that extra little bit of peace of mind. Living in the country our air quality is quite good according to the app, but it is good to know that it was even improved further removing anything bad from the air. I imagine if you had a person of vulnerable health living with you it would be an excellent unit to have.
This air purifier is absolutely decent, amazing in all aspects. Super quiet even when running in full power, easy to control via the mobile app from hands, perform well in circulating the air.
I think that has been brilliant my little one suffers with allergies and since we’ve been using this things seem to have been better. It’s very quiet but is slightly tricky to set up as need the app etc so can be confusing but once all is up and running it’s really great. He doesn’t hear it at nighttime and it hasn’t bothered him. Even though it’s quite small it covers a larger area. Very happy
This does a really good at purifying the air and I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a small air purifier, however, I am concerned about the noise level. It was a little bit distracting and at night it was a little irritating. I am a really light sleeper and so this could be what caused it. If you sleep deeply this may not be a problem, but it did disturb me a little.
This review is for an AEG AX71-304GY air purifier.
SIZE
** This air purifier is not a big ugly machine, far from it … it measures 57.9 cm in width x 48 cm in height x 21.3 cm in depth.
** 1000 watts
** Energy efficiency A+++
** This air purifier is suitable for floor areas up to 62 m2
DESIGN/QUALITY
** This machine is electric and has an electric cable with a moulded plug.
** This unit is sleekly designed using some form of light grey plastic.
** This machines controls are operated by touch on the unit or via the app on your mobile phone.
** This is a very powerful machine with a 4 layer filter that removes 99.9% of all airborne bacteria as small as 2.5 microns.
IMPORTANT / WORTH NOTING
** The *Breeze all round filter* is supplied with the unit and this should last for two years if using the machine for 12 hours a day.
IN USE
What an exciting machine this is … I have severe COPD and air pollutants can really cause me serious respiratory problems by way of exacerbations. I’m thrilled to be able to use a machine such as this to reduce the many indoor risks.
I’ve been using this machine in our bedroom for the last couple of months and it’s working perfectly and doing an excellent job at keeping the air that I’m breathing in at night clean. I’m waking up feeling much more refreshed than I was before I was using this unit. We sleep with our windows open and I’m sure all manner of pollutants enter our home during the night.
I’m so pleased with this machine that I’m definitely going to be purchasing another one for our living room. We have a log burner in there which I’m always worrying is adding to my breathing problems. So for me this would be a very wise investment indeed.
I LIKE
** I was surprised how quiet this machine is … I’ve even been using it at night and it hasn’t kept me awake which is amazing as I am such a light sleeper.
** It’s easy to monitor the air quality in my home by simply downloading and initiating an app for this unit. The app is called “AEG Wellbeing App”.
** This machine automatically cleans the air in your room … it has inbuilt sensors that detect airborne pollutants and adjusts itself accordingly. Genius.
** It works brilliantly, I am sleeping better and feeling heaps better when I wake up … no stuffy nose or dry eyes.
I DON’T LIKE
** It’s all good.
PRICE
349 (price correct at the time of this review) seems a bit expensive, however this machine does a really good job and for health reasons it is certainly worth it to me.
At the time of this review this air purifier is 399.00.
Now this seems really expensive for a big thing that sits in the corner and doesn’t seem to really do much? NO, its actually worth the price.
So it arrives in a huge box, that i myself could fit in too. It comes well packaged and there’s no chance of damage during transit.
I unpacked everything and set it all up, it was really really easy and the instructions couldnt have been any more clear.
You can attach this to the wall but i choose to have it on the floor next to the tv cabinet, it stands quite high but does just look like a speaker.
Just to add i have 3 dogs and they are not bothered about this at all even when its on full power!
The front just pulls off and is attached by magnets, it really couldnt be easier!!
The app is super easy to understand and navigate.
I actually get hooked in monitoring the air from the app.
Ive noticed the air in the living room is clearer than outside unless ive been cooking in the next room – it hates cooking and the numbers go lovely and high whilst its trying to filter out all the air nasties out.
On a second note if you burn anything the apps numbers go crazy!
It’s really easy to connect to the app and the internet and can be used on a manual setting or a smart setting. The smart setting will adjust itself to how bad the air is and how loud the noise level in the room is, if its quiet it’ll stay on the low level, if you have the tv on loud for example and the air is bad, it’ll put the level u a bit to clear the air quicker.
The higher the setting the louder it gets. It’s not overally loud but you can noticeably hear the top level.
I suffer with allergies and always have to have the window open for ‘clean air’ and although this seems like the last thing you’d buy at this price it actually does help the air.
The app lets you know how much of the filter has been used and when you’ll need to replace it.
Overall i would 100% recommend this.
It’s sturdy, well made, looks like a luxury appliance. I totally love it!!
First of all I’m really happy this purifier was made by AEG. This company needs no introduction, and has an established top reputation for any electronic household utensils it makes. But even the best businesses can have bad or weak products from time to time. Is this air purifier an example of one?
The packaging is great, as expected. Very nice box, with good access to the item and reasonable protection.
I realised it’s quite a large purifier in the end. The difference is most of these devices have a cylindrical shape and therefore take even more space (with space also required around them). This purifier looks more like a suitcase – that’s how I called it in the app! My second choice was ‘amp’, because it reminds me of a relatively thin guitar amplifier.
The shape is very modern though. Nice round edges, huge front bracket covered by quality light grey material. Very unobtrusive but visible AEG logo at the top adds to elegance. There’s almost nothing at the back apart from a handle, which turned out to be a hanger – because you can hang it on a wall. You even get a small metal bracket for this in the set. You also get a pair of easy screwable legs, to make it stand securely on the floor.
The top has a touch control panel. You have an on/off button, the mode button and a bar for setting the fan speed. There’s also a Wifi icon and one for ionizer, as well as a bar that changes colours from red to green to indicate the level of air pollution. Finally you have a removable leather handle in a questionable but strangely matching pink.
You get two work modes: manual and smart. In manual you are the master deciding on how intense you want your purifier to clean the air. In smart the purifier takes control and based on the range of sensors adjusts the speed. In both settings you can enable or disable the ionizer.
How does a purifier work? The heart of the system is the front of the device, which hides a double filter under the easily removable front plate. It’s inside when you take the device out of the box. You have to take it out before 1st use though – both parts are wrapped in protective foils which should be removed. One is a white filter similar to car air filter. The other one is a black plastic frame with lots of honeycomb holes with what looks like small pieces of carbon inside. They are of course protected from falling out by a small net. You also have some blue plasters around the whole item that hold different parts of the device while in the box. They also need to go.
Once the filters are unwrapped, they go back in the same place you got them out of. The direction is marked on each. I would then recommend to install the app.
You need to create an account, but it’s a quick and simple process. Then you set up Wifi connection (again simple) and off you go. The operation is really simple. You have the ‘Turn on/off’ button and the information about the percentage of filter use. When you switch it on, as default it starts in smart mode. The ionizer is off but you can switch it on – as long as you don’t unplug the device, it will remember the setting.
Underneath you get lots of stats about air quality. Some update very quickly and some take a while. They refer to different size of polluted particles in the air that have different levels of acceptable density.
The ionizer I mentioned a few times helps attracting pollutant particles to group together, by emitting ions into the air. Other options in the app include a decent scheduler and feed, which is basically a summary of each activity when the item was on.
So does this purifier make a difference? Is it a true item or just a gimmick? It’s much easier to answer this question if you have allergies or suffer from breathing difficulties. In general the quality of air indoor for your household will most likely be very good or good. But using air fresheners, more intensive cooking or keeping your space unventilated for a while, may cause the stats to go all the way to red. Again is it a bad thing? Not for a typical person probably, but I’d like my air quality to be the best it can be. It helps with sleeping, not getting allergies and it also gets rid of odours (slowly but surely).
The unit isn’t cheap. 400 is a considerable expense. But air purifiers are generally quite costly. The main advantages of this item over other ones is the size and portability, including the ability to be hung on the wall. The smart mode and the wifi app work very well and are simple to use. It’s also really quiet – in smart mode you hardly hear it. I can recommend it to run overnight in your bedroom. The filter takes 12 months before you need to replace it. This is good as many other purifiers need this investment after only 6 months. The price of replacement isn’t going to give you a massive headache either. And finally this purifier looks really good.
What are the cons? Well there’s one for me. The purifier has a vent at the top, behind the control panel, which releases the processed air. All pictures indicate that the air should spread evenly in all directions from there. Hmmm, for me it seems to always blow a bit to the left side as you face it. Probably because on the right side you have the cover of the fan, quite visible too. I would really love for it to do things as advertised, but luckily it does process the air quite efficiently. One more wish rather than a con would be the Alexa/Google Home integration. I would love to create some routines and voice control it.
If you have these specific conditions like allergies or breathing difficulties or are concerned about the air quality in your house – get a purifier. If you want a good looking, portable and efficient purifier – get this one. I’m very happy to have it.
Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.
The AEG AX71-304GY Air Purifier has a lovely sleek modern style and design. I have this placed in our living room, freestanding. I prefer this as I can also easily move it between rooms using the carry handle. I do like that it can be wall-mounted, which I may consider in the future.
The AEG Wellbeing app is intuitive, It was easy to set up and WiFi-enable. It allows me to understand what is happening in my home at a glance. The features include indoor/outdoor air quality, history, ionizer and check filter usage to know when to replace it. I tend to leave it on smart mode and let the technology work its magic.
Having used it for a few weeks now, I do feel an improvement in air quality. Being a hayfever sufferer, I can now comfortably relax in my home allergy-free. It really helps me at night. The noise level is minimal, even on the highest setting, the noise is not excessive.
Overall, a smart-looking air purifier, paired with a smartphone, gives you total control, even when away from home. AEG has really put some thought into this quality piece of kit. Filter replacements are not cheap. If you don’t like the grey fabric cover, AEG offers a Decor kit and currently provides two colours: Nordic Forest and Birch.
This has made such a difference in our bedroom. I was a little skeptical at first, as “quite” fans are usually anything but…… But this really is. Don’t get me wrong, when it detects something it needs to filter, it kicks in, but on normal mode it’s very quiet. I find the white noise very soothing.
It has an app, with is amazing at giving you all the info you need on why type of particles it is filtering and how many. For me it’s very interesting to see.
It picks up when my OH sprays his deodorant, and even when he’s burnt toast 2 floors down (it detects it before I can smell it).
But the best part – we’re breathing better at night. We both have allergies, but at this time of year it’s hard to avoid. This not only filters pollen, but dust too. It’s very pricey, at 399 at time of writing, but for us it is worth that. If you suffer with allergies, especially at night, then seriously consider an air purifier – I can’t recommend this highly enough.
I’ve been using this air purifier for several weeks now and I’m very impressed indeed. It takes around 5 minutes to unbox and set up and I screwed in the feet as I’ll be using it floor standing. In addition to screwing in the feet, all you have to do is remove the wrapping around the filter and I love the way the front panel attaches via magnetic force so it’s very easy to remove if you need to.
The unit is controlled via a touch panel on the top of the unit with an on / off button and another button which controls the 2 modes, which are smart mode and manual mode. I prefer smart mode as this automatically adjusts the fan speed depending on the quality of the air wheras manual mode is best for a quick blast if you need to quickly clean the air. There’s also a wifi indicator sign to show when it’s connected to the internet.
Connecting to the internet is straight forward and is necesaary to use the AEG Wellbeing app. If you use a VPN, just remember to switch it off when connecting for the first time as otherwise it may not work. Once connected, it’s fine to switch your VPN back on and it should then work fine.
The fan itself is incredibly quiet compared to the noise from other units I’ve used and this for me is one if it’s best selling points. It’s quiet enough to use at night and you don’t really notice it’s switched on – just plug it in and forget about it as it works away in the background. However, it does have a carry handle so it’s easy to move around if you need to.
The AEG Wellbeing app is very good and shows the level of air quality in your home. You can also set timers to switch the air purifier on and off automatically or just switch it on and off manually if you prefer. The app also tells you when the filter needs replacing but under normal use (12 hours per day), it’s claimed to last 2 years. We may not use it as much in Winter so it may even last longer.
The big question is does it make a different to the air quality and having used it for a while, I’m pleased to say that it definitely does. My daughter and I typically suffer from hayfever and the symptoms of this have reduced significantly since we started using it. For that reason alone, it’s worth every penny.
Overall, this air purifier isn’t the cheapest but it’s certainly one of the best and comes from a well known high street brand too. It’s highly recommended.
I have been very impressed with this AEG AX71-304GY Air Purifier. My daughter who suffers Hay fever and other allergies has found this Air Purifier a godsend. This unit can be hung on a wall, but I have attached the feet so it can be placed where needed. For the time being it’s been in my daughter’s bedroom, she can now get some relief from all the pollen she is allergic to.
The first thing I did when I plugged this unit in was to download the AEG Wellbeing app for Android. The unit can be operated via the touch sensitive buttons on the top very easily, but the app is far more useful and gives plenty of information about the air quality. The AEG Wellbeing app works very well and was very easy to set-up, I can now check the air quality in my daughter’s room from anywhere. I have set a timer within the app to turn on the Air Purifier at a set time each night and turn off in the early hours.
So far I have only run the Air Purifier in Smart mode; this will automatically adjust the fan speed depending on air quality. There is also an Air Ionizer within the unit, and I normal leave this set to come on with the unit.
The AEG Wellbeing app gives information about the levels of fine particles (PM2.5), ultrafine particles (PM1) and course particles (PM10). Also there is information about levels of harmful gases (TVOC), and levels of carbon dioxide, the humidity and temperature. All these levels are constantly plotted while the unit is running. The app shows the difference in air quality from the level inside compared to the level outside in the same area.
The Air Purifier’s sensors are very sensitive, if I light an Incense stick downstairs the particles level go up very quickly which is indicated within the app. Also there is an LED light along the top of the Air Purifier, which changes colour depending on how good or bad the air quality.
This AEG Air Purifier is very quiet; this is due to having a very large fan and not having to turn so fast. After running for two weeks every night the AEG Wellbeing app indicates the Particle filter to still be at 100%, which is a good thing as the Complete Air Filter + Odour Protect Filter is between 60 and 70.
Overall, although this is quite expensive at 399 at the time of review, this is probably one of the best portable Air Purifiers for the home that’s available. And being an AEG product it should be very reliable.
I hope you find my review helpful
Ala
This unit replaced an earlier Levolt unit. Noise-wise it is remarkable. Even at full power it is quieter than the old unit on minimum, and most of the time the only way to check it is running is to hold a hand over the vent. It does a great job, moving large volumes of air and keeping our bedroom habitable even in peak pollen season. The filters are easy to access as the front panel is held with magnets. The wall mount is very basic – just a hook under a slot on the back – and we’re a little worried it is insufficiently secure but so far no accidents.
Getting it set up was a challenge, though, Despite the price, there is no remote control supplied so you have to use a phone. Installing the app was easy (note they have restricted it geographically so if you have a US Google account the app is not found). Registering the unit is done by scanning a bar-code, and you then give the unit access to your wifi. All good and petty straightforward. However, we found the unit is VERY picky about wifi signal strength and we struggled to find an orientation where it reliably got enough signal to work, despite having mesh wifi at home with signal you can cook by. We had to re-register the device multiple times to get control of it again but finally found a spot in the bedroom where it stayed connected. Because this is such a trial-and-error process it is perfectly possible you won’t be able to find a place where it stays connected, and without any other remote control (just very basic manual touch controls) that makes it useless if it happens.
In use, it is set-and-forget. We have programmed it to come on about an hour before bed time and to turn off the following morning at latest-go-out time. It is completely silent in use once it has got the air clean – the fan speed drops. The green air quality light also goes out in the dark so your sleep is not compromised – a nice touch. The app has lots of data about air quality including several things the unit doesn’t actually affect (like VOC concentrations). It’s all detected via a sensor on one side of the unit so take care to keep that free of all obstructions. It also has a setting where it will emit ions in the air flow (which causes dust to get quickly settled and collected) which we hadn’t noticed from the text and really like.
Overall I am now very happy with it, having run the setup gauntlet. It is MUCH better than the old Levolt unit. On balance, I would probably recommend it.
The AEG AX71-304GY Air purifier is easy to set up and control. The power cable is approximately 205 cm in length. The air purifier breaks down into four separate pieces, Which I have demonstrated in my included video. The box also contains two screwing rubber feet and a wall mounting bracket, Which gives you the opportunity to either wall mount it or have it free standing in a room which makes it more portable. I personally have gone for freestanding, Because over the last year or so my parents have been suffering with some sort of allergy which we possibly think it’s now hay fever. This model is approximately 21.3 x 48 x 57.9 cm and weighs 6 kg approximately. The purifier can be controlled manually and by the AEG well-being app. I am using it from the touch controls on the actual air purifier, Which are simple and easy to use. You have two modes which is a smart mode or manual and I personally have left it in SmartMode just to let the purifier do what it has to do itself. The LED panel displays the air quality with a green for being good and red for being bad. There is five levels of fan speed which you can manually adjust by the touch slider. The air purifier noise is very quiet on low speed and noticeable but not noisy on high speed which I have included with my demonstration to show you the difference in sounds. If you’re going to be using the purifier as my parents will be without the app which does give you more information, but the display on the device shows you when the filter needs changing and if there is any alerts. The filter says it should last approximately 24 months running at 12 hours a day, But I’m guessing that will be on variable air quality conditions so may fluctuate a little. I have tested the air purifier in my bedroom to see how it works and if I would notice any difference in the air quality. I powered it on and left it on SmartMode which immediately after some analysing it came up with a red displays showing that the air quality was obviously poor. I close the bedroom door and left it running for a couple of hours and then returned and I could tell the difference between entering the room and being in the bedroom. The difference in quality of air felt much lighter and pure to breathe. My parents are now enjoying cleaner and fresher air. I hope you have found my video and review helpful.
my son has been really suffering from hay fever this season so imagine my surprise and delight when I saw this.
Typically AEG it is perfectly designed yet simple and out of the box it is extremely easy to set up.
There is a good multilingual manual and an app that guides you through set up.
Large box but very lightweight and unboxed is the size of a small suitcase.
It can be Wall or floor mount and has detachable feet and removable carry strap.
Firstly the app informed me of a ten minute wait for an update then voila!
Control from anywhere via the app and Wi-fi or by the onboard power button and slide control.
It has a timer function but no voice control.
It runs virtually silent has a built In ioniser
Filters are replaceable and maintenance involves vacuuming the sensor every 4 weeks or so.
Sleeping without open windows reported poor air quality, a quick blast and good air quality is resumed.
Very impressive.
We already had a top of the range Philips air purifier, so I was keen to try this one offered for testing under the Amazon Vine program. Well, if the price isn’t too much for you, my advice is to buy it… or the Philips! Yes, both are excellent at cleaning the air, but, it needs to be said that the AEG model is yet more special because it is so extraordinarily attractive.
The cost of this unit must surely be in its exceptional design. It fits truly well into modern decor and really does look a premium product. Despite the high price, it, nonetheless, looks and acts in every way worth what it costs. It’s just such a lovely item for something that needs to be quite large in order to operate so quietly — and quiet is the right word for this air purifier.
If you have allergies or feel that you would benefit from breathing cleaner air, this is probably the best option available currently, albeit at a price. I have persistent sinus problems for which there’s no easy cure and using an air purifier seems to help. The size of this AEG unit means that it clears the room quickly and quietly and being able to wall mount it is a genuine plus point, making it look yet more attractive. This model is as “unobtrusive” and attractive as a decent air purifier is going to get. The app is optional, but is well designed and easy to use.
We have come to trust AEG group products (Zanussi, Electrolux and AEG). We have a tumble dryer, and my daughter-in-law has their washer-dryer, a cordless vacuum and an oven with induction hob. All of those items have shown themselves to be well made, attractive and durable. In fact, we’re planning to get the oven, too, as it’s proving to be quite exceptionally good. I’m quite sure that this air purifier will prove to be the same.
app is user friendly and it’s possible to operate it with controls on the unit so if you don’t want the app or have no signal etc..and it doesn’t mean you can’t use. it would have been nice to also have a separate remote so you can operate it at a distance without the app.
super quiet operation, even on it’s highest setting it’s barely noticeable. good size filter that’s easy to remove and clean.
straightforward to assemble, comes with detachable feet and a hook/plate for wall mounting.
air from the fan is expelled from the top of the unit and not the front which is a nice change, i can have cooled air without sitting directly in the air flow.
I am allergic to tree pollen and there has been a LOT of it about around me the last few weeks, have used this now for about a week and i feel like my eyes and throat are less inflamed and itchy in the mornings and i have noticed my nighttime coughing has reduced, so i am gonna give it the benefit of the doubt and say it’s doing a good job of cleaning the particles and allergens from the ai
This is the second-largest model in this series of air purifiers. As you’d expect, the price is not small, and neither is the size of it. The good news is that the unit is not as heavy as it looks, but this has significantly more depth than I was expecting. This means that while it is viable to hang it on a wall, you may not want to do so as it will stick out quite a bit.
The colour is grey/light grey. I’d expect this to pair decently well with similar shades of grey, but also be aware that there is a considerable difference in darkness when put together with any charcoal-based grey. The front cover of the panel is removable and held together using magnets. You’ll need to remove it if you are to replace the filter (or removing the plastic cover over the filters when new). The fan sucks in the air around the front cover through the sides, not through the front – the front is completely solid and filled in. There is also a leather-esque strap with metal pins which can be undone by unscrewing. Both the pins (Screws) and the handles look sleek, but of course if, on a wall, you’ll want to remove them. Unfortunately, on my unit, there was a black mark on the side of the handle. I could have switched the direction of the handle so that mark was facing the back so it wouldn’t be seen, but for something which costs this much, it is a little disappointing, especially since it seems like a lot of thought has gone into the design. There were also two feet included if you decide to put this on the floor. Combined with a small rubber pad on the bottom, the feet enable the device to sit on a surface without sliding. There is nothing on the back of the unit other than the metal hook system which works in combination with the metal piece you can screw into a wall (in the pouch where the manual is in). It appears that it was designed this way as a secure way of holding the unit onto the wall, while also being designed to be taken off if necessary. (I originally thought it was a handle at the back!) Also be aware that if attaching onto a wall, you’ll still have to have a way of hiding the power cable if you don’t want it seen.
The rough measurements are a depth of around 20cm, a width of around 58cm and a height of around 49cm, so quite large.
The system works well without even connecting to wifi or using the app. While you do lose some functionality such as remote controlling, what you can do with the controls built-in are as follows: turning the fan on and off, adjusting between manual and smart mode. Manual mode keeps the fan speeds at the set speed done by sliding or placing your finger along the line on the top. The smart mode is just an automatic mode that adjusts the fan speed based on how clean the air is – if the air is clean, the fans will spin at the lowest speed producing less noise and saving a little energy. You can also see what the current cleanliness of the air is based on the small light bar shining to the front of the unit using different colours (described in the manual).
The little control panel also has some icons such as one to show when you are connected to WiFi.
The noise produced is very manageable. Especially in the lower settings, I found that most of the sound was from the movement of air, opposed to the motors whining. Even at the higher settings, the fans do not whine. The best way that I can describe the sound is like one of those air conditioners which are designed to be constantly on throughout the night in eastern countries, but less of the high end, and so in my opinion much more soothing. The fan is some sort of centrifugal design, so one that blows air sideways as opposed to directly in front of you. If you look at the top of the fan, you can see the fan moving. For something this large, you’d expect the fans to move a lot of air, and I am satisfied with the performance. Bearing in mind that the performance was compromised due to making sure that the fans were quiet and that the overall area where the air blows out is fairly large, you can still feel a soft breeze on the lowest setting, and of course, much more on the max setting.
There are two filters included and the unit requires the correct positioning of both filters. There are NFC tags in both filters, and I’m taking a guess that these tags are used to monitor the life of the filters but also to tell if they are official filters.
After removing the plastic from the filters and turning it on for the first time, I smelt the air and it smelt exactly how I expected it to smell – the sort of new filter smell. It does feel cleaner but I can’t be too sure, and I do find it quite pleasant. I am not sure if this overall smell will dissipate over some use or if this is a characteristic of the filtered air, but either way, I would not worry about it. Instead, I would that as a reassurance that air is being passed through the filters instead of being bypassed somewhere else.
They state that the predicted life of the filter is around 2 years with around 12 of use every day, but have not gone into detail of environments, fan speeds etc…
Unfortunately, I couldn’t manage to find the weight of the device, but it should feel fairly easy to lift around with the included handle. For the first setup with the app, there was a software update for the purifier, which happened automatically and took a short amount of time. Connecting to the app provides a few extra features and much more stats about the air such as the humidity and temperature as well as the amount of Volatile Organic Compounds in the air (although this takes many hours to calibrate). Within the app, you can also enable the ioniser feature, which as described in the app “emits ions in the air, attracting pollutant particles to each other for faster removal. You can also compare the quality of air inside the room to the outside, although the outside air quality is using external data in combination with the device location. If connected to the app, the lights on the unit automatically turn off.
The app also mentions that you need to clean the sensor using something like a vacuum cleaner every few weeks.
With the combination of the app, you can not only clean the air in your room but also monitor it. For example, if you had multiple vacuum cleaners and wanted to test how detrimental they were to the air quality, you could probably use this to find out.
It would have been nice if there was a feature where you could select fan speed limits at different times, such as that you would limit the fan speed to a speed of 2 during bed hours to allow for less distraction when sleeping.
Other than the simple, clean design, there is a gold printed AEG logo on the front. Luckily due to the colour and the finish of it, it does not attract too much attention. Although there was a slight disappointment with the blemish on the handle, I can really see all the effort that went into designing the fan, for example, the rubberised feet, the magnetic front plate, the touch interface, the amazing fan etc., and while I would have initially wondered if it was worth it for 400, connecting it to the app shows there is a little bit more than what the small control panel can show, including the ioniser feature. I can definitely see this as one of the higher-quality options. The sound profile of the fan is very impressive and does displace a lot more air than one would suspect.
Hope this was useful.
I have to confess I got a shock when this arrived and I saw the size of it – somehow looking at the main image above (stupidly not the rest of them!), I was under the impression it was only a foot square or similar. But no – it’s rather oversized, suitcase shaped, and really best for a really large sitting room or bedroom (AEG do provide smaller versions).
It comes in a large branded box (so everyone knows what you’re getting!) but isn’t overly heavy. Inside the purifier is securely packaged in moulded cardboard – along with 2 matching coloured feet. You also get a nice ziplock bag with the manual (in 9 Euro languages) and a bracket for wall hanging if you prefer. The purifier itself is beautifully styled (for a suitcase LOL!) and has a handle thankfully, but which oddly isn’t colour coordinated unlike everything else. Setup and installation isn’t overly complicated. I managed to figure out what to do before ever even finding the manual. There are a couple of notes stating to remove plastic from the filter which is behind the front panel. The panel lifts off easily to reveal a couple of different filters one of which you have to remove out of a plastic bag. Just pay attention to the notes that say Top etc, as the filters need to go back in as they came out. Also take note of the little barcode panel on one side as you need that for setting up the App. Once that’s sorted, just plug it in and switch it on. Nothing happens for a few seconds, and then the display springs to life saying “Smart” – pressing the on/off switch cycles it between that and “Manual”.
To use the App you need to scan the barcode mentioned above, and then follow the instructions to connect the device to your WiFi. The App will provide info on exactly what the purifier is doing as there’s no info provided directly on the display, and also for selecting certain extras like the ioniser option, so you WILL need a smartphone/tablet if you want to have those. My (edited only to remove personal info) photos aren’t the greatest but hopefully give an idea of what it provides. You basically get hourly stats on how it’s performing. I don’t smoke, nor have pets any longer, but do have a house filled with scented products that supposedly throw out dangerous chemicals. Measurements are taken of a range of things, from CO2 through temperature and humidity as well as particulates in the air. It’s a big beast to be sure but that enables it to be able to filter larger rooms although I’m unsure how it would “Reach every corner of your home:” but maybe it does. Not easy to test that though. Lots of other useful features are available incl a child lock and alerts etc.
Just a few tiny niggles against it for me – one being the non colour-coordinated handle. AEG also provide additional extras such as different front colours according to the manual, but after a lot of hunting around on their website I couldn’t find anything anywhere that mentioned them let alone provide the means of purchase – something that could certainly be improved on. However, everything IS provided via a link in the App, but not everyone will necessarily look there first.
And while the manual is certainly good, however, no info is provided anywhere of what some of the readings mean as it uses acronyms without readily available explanation. There are alerts but apparently only for filter life so I’ve no idea what constitutes a dangerous level of particulates or whether it would let you know if that was ever the case. The App, however, does provide a better level of info but you still have to know how to find it, and tough again if you don’t use a smartphone.
The onboard display doesn’t show much of anything while it’s in operation, and I can often only determine it’s actually working by feeling for the airflow (it’s like a big quiet fan in the room) – it would have been good if the display showed more stats rather than only the App.
Regardless, while it’s my ‘job’ to be picky, most buyers won’t stress over such minutiae – and for most, this will be one serious product that will provide peace of mind for many years to come.
So the unit is a little bigger than I expected, think carry-on luggage size. Incredibly easy to set up, from sealed box to plugged in and working in less than 5 minutes.
Initially, the size concerned me that it may be rather noisy however it’s just a gentle hum that I’ve happily slept through.
This past month my hayfever has been awful, waking up daily feeling awful and struggling to breathe even taking antihistamines before bed. This was the perfect opportunity to try this out and see if it really did make a difference. I’ve alternated the past few days with it on overnight and off. The nights with it on I’ve woken up feeling great, no hayfever issues at all. On the alternative days, I’ve woken up feeling awful. I’ve tried this for several nights to check it wasn’t just a good pollen day – it really does work.
I know this is likely to be a quite high-cost unit and without a few more weeks I’m unable to say if it’s good value for money, but so far it does the job brilliantly whilst looking rather great and I’m happily recommending it to friends.
This is an interestingly designed air purifier which has a number of customisable elements and as well as on-machine controls, can be most effectively used via an app. I guess in terms of similarity to other products it’s a little like a Dyson Air Purifier.
In the (very large) box you get the purifier with filter attached, two optional legs for installation at floor level, and a bracket to mount the unit on a wall and some comprehensive instructions – which come in their own ziplock bag to emphasise this is a premium product! Critically to get the most out of the purifier you’ll need to download the AEG Wellbeing App from either the Android or Apple App Store.
To commission the purifier there’s a little bit of hassle in unpacking and fitting all of the elements. In particular parts of the filter mechanism on the front of the machine are sealed in plastic bags which need to be removed. It makes sense to have a brief look at the user manual to make sure everything is unpacked as it’s not immediately evident of all the parts that are wrapped.
You can then simply turn the machine on. The machine controls sit on the top of the unit and are touch sensitive. They are pretty straightforward. Pressing the power button turns the machine on or off. The mode button selects either ‘Smart’ or ‘Manual’ mode with the former the default. You press the mode button more than once to select either mode. Finally in manual mode you can select the speed of the fan using the virtual fan speed slider on the top of the machine. The controls are also accompanied by a few warning and advisory symbols such as whether Wi-fi is connected, whether the filter requires replacement and the level of air pollution. A linear display changes colour depending on the pollution levels – green is good, maroon is very bad!
To get the most from the machine you really need to use the AEG Wellbeing app. Once downloaded simply follow the app instructions to link the app to the purifier to your internet connection. This involves pressing the power button for five seconds which activates the machine Wi-fi – shown by a flashing Wi-fi symbol. You than add the purifier by linking its inbuilt Wi-fi to your phone and then, in turn, select and provide the password for your own Wi-fi network.
I’ve attached some photos of the app in action. In essence from anywhere in the world you can turn the purifier on and off, change its settings, and view graphs of specific pollutants detected. You can also set the purifier to come on at particular times of day.
All of this works well and is intuitive. Obviously this is not an inexpensive machine. It will cope with pollutants in a room up to 59 square metres. The filter should last for 24 months if on 12 hours a day, and the fan is very quiet indeed, especially at lower fan levels. You really can’t hear it.
There are two limitations I guess. The first is its sheer size. The unit is two feet, almost 60cm wide. It can be placed right against a wall but does need some space either side to work effectively so you need around 100cm of wall space in total. Although it can be mounted on a wall it still takes up space. Plus unlike the Dyson machines the purifier will not cool you down. Air from the fan is expelled from the top of the machine. Dyson machines are air fans as well, directing air towards you.
This machine is highly effective at removing air impurities. It can be personalised with different filter covers and handles and it is silent almost, and well constructed.
Overall due to the size I’m dropping one star, and something that directs air towards you would have been useful as well.
A four star product.
Hubby had trouble getting this to work with the app but it eventually connected. You can just turn it on with a switch, you don’t have to use an app, but the app gives you a breakdown of how it’s working and it’s telling us that our air is very good. You also need the app if you want to use it as an ioniser. I don’t want to mess around with all that, I like to just plug it in and switch it on and have done with it. Hubby doesn’t mind messing about with this kind of thing but even he was getting close to calling it a day with this. Now it’s sorted and it seems we can just turn it on and I don’t need him to be here with his phone in order to make it work, it’s all good. It is very quiet, you can hear it but you can’t hear it over the top of the telly or anything like that. It puts out a bit of a breeze at the top but it doesn’t feel too hot or too cold, so it’s not warming the house up in this current heatwave and I don’t expect it to make it colder in the wintertime. It is quite big, so make sure you measure up and have enough room for it. We’ve got it in the dinning room at the moment because that’s more of a living room for us, but it will go in the hall when we’ve finished playing with it as that is central to our house and should treat the whole house there. It is also quite light, so no big deal if you do need to move it around from room to room. We’ll do each room first then pop it in the hall when everywhere is done and leave it on there all the time. I’ve included a screenshot of the app.
This is a review of a free product sent to me as an Amazon Vine reviewer.
On the whole my review of this unit is largely all positive – but there is a negative point that I must honestly mention first. The negative is that the molded mains plug would not insert into my electric socket – this was due to the neutral pin of the molded plug not being aligned correctly. This was easily rectified by straightening it using some heavy duty pliers but the issue here is that it doesn’t look good when it comes to the quality control of the manufacture. Maybe, somehow, the pin became bent out of alignment after it was tested and before it was boxed – I won’t knock any stars off because of this as the rest of the unit outshines this issue.
Once I had repaired the mains plug and inserted it into my socket the unit is simplicity itself to operate – just press the power-on touch control and the unit goes into ‘smart’ mode, does a routine of checking the air quality for several seconds, and then selects the speed of the fan to run at and then, over time, depending on how much work it has to do to clean the air, displays a coloured striplight (the various colours showing the degrees of air quality) which should eventually turn green to indicate that the air quality is ‘very good’.
The other mode of operation (selected by pressing the ‘mode’ button) is the ‘manual’ mode – and this simply means that you scroll your finger along the touch strip to select the speed of the fan and then the unit runs permanently at that chosen speed until altered.
Mentioning the speed of the fan, it should be pointed out that, at high speed, the fan is very audible and so, if the unit is placed in a bedroom, it will need to be set on a much lower speed for sleep not to be disturbed. On the lowest speed the can is hardly noticeable.
The unit itself appears to be well built (not forgetting that mine arrived with a bent pin on the mains plug!) and seems to be designed to keep maintenance tasks, like changing the filter periodically, being made very easy. It’s relatively lightweight for its size and would fit in, I’m sure, with a range of home decors. I removed the carry handle from the unit as it was a horrible pink colour which does not at all work with the grey colour which was sent to me. The carry handle is designed to be interchangeable and there a limited range of colour alternatives to choose from. The unit can still be carried without the carry handle as the ‘wall-mount’ recess at the back of the unit also acts as a kind of secondary handle.
I like this item and recommend it to anyone wanting the reassurance that their home has purified air. I think it would be an asset in the home for hayfever sufferers like myself as it is capable of filtering out microscopic elements in the air.
The manual recommends that it is operated with windows closed for maximum effectiveness.
I haven’t tried connecting it to the wi-fi or using the ‘app’ that can connect with it, and wouldn’t ever be interested in bothering with this extra functionality.
Air purifier- hayfever season equaliser.
The air purifier is around the size of a small suitcase, it can be wall mounted if you want it up off the floor or stood on the small screw in legs.
It has a double filter- 2 layers of filters to catch different airborne particles, these lie inside the body one machine, behind mesh filter which in turn is behind the nice grey panel.
The controls are n the top of the machine- nice a easy to access.
There’s a free app to control and monitor the results of the air quality etc, this shows you a graph of how the air quality has improved, or decreased ( kids spraying deodorant near it will do that) it also shows you how the inside air quality compares to the outside air quality.
It also tells you when you need to change the filters.
So, my results- firstly a little about me, I have allergies, air fresheners have me wheezing, pollen makes the summer months miserable and cheap perfume has me struggling for breath.
My hayfever has been so bad this year that nothing seems to be working, I sneeze from one antihistamine to another, I take one before bed and wake sneezing and sniffing 4/6 hours later….well I did.
I have set this up in my bedroom ( my side of the bed!) and things have improved, I still need my anti histamine table before bed and to keep the windows closed but my streaming eyes and sneezing nose are better, not cured but much better., I don’t wake up in the early hours desperate to blow my nose and needing to take another tablet ( Fexofenadine) so I can fall asleep again in 20 mins when it’s started to work.
The noise is barely noticeable, it is a gentle low level continuous hum, I have this set on smart mode and it takes care of everything for me.
Looks wise, it’s smart and doesn’t draw your attention to it too much.
