its good. rocks a little but does what it says. robust, stable , easy to use mechanism
Been using this for 5 months now, adjusting the height at least 1-3 x a day. Given the usage, can say that it’s solidly built, the hydraulics glides smoothly, and is large enough to fit a laptop dock, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and small notepad. It’s not light enough to easily transport around (this won’t be a bring-to-coworking-space-everyday type of accessory), but not heavy enough that a 120lb woman can’t move it off the dining table herself when there’s company over (admittedly rare these days ‘cos COVID).
Originally, I wasn’t sure about spending this much for a desk accessory that my work won’t expense but now, I have no regrets. Worth every penny.
PS. If a black industrial looking thing isn’t your taste, use stick on wall paper or contact paper. I used marbled contact paper with a hair dryer for the rounded edges.
Pratico, abbastanza solido, stabile e spazioso senza eccessivo ingombro.
Ottimo rapporto qualit prezzo.
I purchased this item as “not new” condo.
However, I can find no blemish on the product – great result for me.
As expected, the external packing was a bit battered, but the internal packing materials did their job.
This now completes my work from home office.
Thank you!
Do not seem to notice a wobble feature that few are mentioning in the reviews. Due to COVID-19 I ended up purchasing this piece for the long haul of working from home for quite some time. I am 5’8″ and this can be set at a comfortable height. I have a hutch on my IKEA desk and there is just enough clearance to put this on with a 32″ lcd monitor, keyboard and mouse. It does what it is intended to do. Have the ability to remove from my desk in the future should I choose to.
Appena ricevuto. Ben imballato e di facile uso. Buon prodotto.
It technically adjusts to any height. It tilts a bit in the closed height when you lean your arms on the table. It’s also bouncy at most mid heights if you put weight on it. It works wonderfully if you are lightly typing on keyboard and reading on your screen. Its also quite large compared to other variations available on line – so i’m able to lay paperwork next to my laptop if needed.
I’m 6″4 and it’s tough to find a good standing desk for tall people. Although this could be 1″ higher for me, it works really well. Easy to use and built with good materials.
Very pleased with this purchase. It’s bigger and more stable than what I expected (just going by the picture). Ample space for my laptop, mouse, coffee, books. Love the simplicity with no keyboard trays etc etc – just a large movable desk area. If you need a separate monitor or keyboard, those can be accommodated by moving laptop to the side but in that case perhaps a different design that moves keyboard out will be better.
I am pleased with this product overall. I do wish it had a separate, hinged surface for a keyboard and mouse.
Very easy to lift up and put back down. Very large surface area, enough for laptop, papers, phone, etc. I had asked if it could be moved (I keep it on my kitchen island as I don’t have a desk); I found out the answer is no – it’s very heavy.
This is very much what I was looking for.
It is fairly expensive, IMO, for what it is, but it works as I’d hoped it would with one caveat: There seem to be certain “set” levels at which it is stable, but between those settings it can feel a little mushy/bouncy.
But again, overall, this is helpful to me in my battle against sciatica.
My new sit-stand desk is wonderful! I have bad knees so to be able to stand when they start hurting makes my day more productive and I am able to concentrate better.
I love it!
Absolutely LOVE IT! It sure beats trying to use a big box from the market. I LOVE my desk and didn’t want to get rid of it (for a full sit stand desk) so this works great. It’s only 2.5 inches from the lowest point to 20 inches at the highest point. It’s very sturdy. I’ve been looking for something like this for a long time. I think I’ll be doing a LOT more standing from now on. It totally changes my work environment because it’s just SO easy to go from sitting to standing and back to sitting again. I looked at some of the others but the dimensions of this one makes for the best fit for the desk I have now.
ecommend this to anyone with a desk job. I use the raised platform about half of the work day and the improvement it made in my circulation and reducing end-of-ay fatigue is even better than I had expected. I have so much more energy and less achiness at the end of the day now. I will never go back to sitting in a desk chair all day again.
I keep trying different setups with this unit – I didn’t fully think through my own needs before it arrived at my doorstep, and it’s not exactly doing what I’d originally envisioned.
The unit here is very stable, but does have a bit of a “bouncy” feel thanks to the scissoring mechanism that raises and lowers it. My husband was aghast at the idea of putting a newer all-in-one desktop on it, because whatever cord keepers, however much I trust the stability, accidents do happen, and higher up without back support is a more precarious position.
Beyond that, I really don’t find the “footprint” that convenient. Hi, my name’s Knits and I’m …a clutterer. Stuff finds its way onto my desk, makes little piles, has babies when my back is turned. A better person might find a desk add-on that goes up and down to be a positive motivator, a challenge to keep work surfaces clean and organized. I find it results in a kleenex box or half a protein bar getting smooshed if I’m not paying attention when the unit is going down.
So at the moment, this is a riser on a folding table that itself has various height positions, and I’m using it with nothing bigger than a tablet, really. Even with the cord keepers, I don’t see putting a 28 inch screen on this stand, although I’d probably be pretty okay with an entire desk of the same surface area that raises and lowers. There’s a psychological side to this whole home office setup thing you don’t mess with, if you want to be in the right mindset to get things done. Maybe see who you know with a standing desk or tabletop riser, try a few types on for size if you can, then decide.
his works well, I especially like the room for the keyboard at the same height as the computer, I like this height, if I want it lower there’s a keyboard holder mounted below my desktop
I’ve been using a standing desk at work going on almost 10 years, since I first learned about the potential health issues with sitting all day. I used to rig up card board boxes and books to make it possible, but products like this make it a lot easier and more affordable!
At work we do have ones that fit individual laptops but they are a lot harder to maneuver. This standing desk maneuvers up and down very smoothly and easily.
I can fit two laptops on it, and even a monitor, although given that it isn’t very deep, this works better with monitors that don’t have a very wide/deep stand. I keep this at home and move it to standing or sitting position depending on my mood and how tired I am.
While I like a lot about the Sit-Stand desk, it might have been nice for it to be a couple of inches bigger in each direction. I realize that would make it heavier and another advantage of this is that it’s still light enough to carry around with you, but not on a regular basis! Not to mention being bigger would also mean more awkward for transporting. Still, I guess if I had the money I would buy a larger one for home and this one or even something slightly smaller as a portable option.
So, why purchase this over an actual desk? Well, for one, you don’t need to worry about fitting it in somewhere, it will just be a small addition to a current desk, and I find it hard to believe that there are many desks out there it wouldn’t fit on given it’s size. Second, the aforementioned portability. You might want to take it on a longer trip where you’re going to be doing a lot of work. That being said, given the choice, I would personally probably opt for a standing desk for the specific reason that at least some are tall enough that you can fit some treadmills underneath them without modification. Ultimately my goal is to have a treadmill desk since I think that offers the best health benefits.
But especially if you have never used a standing desk or aren’t sure you can commit to one, these seems a decent choice for dipping your toe in the water, albeit maybe at a slightly less “experimental” price. But it will sure beat a jury-rigged set up with boxes and books in terms of look, sturdiness, and flexibility!
Terrific product. Comes completely assembled but for two adhesive clips to corral cords. Easy to expand to adjustable height. Plenty of space for computer monitors mouse and paperwork. Instructions did not address how to collapse. Simply reverse of raising but does require a good push to collapse
Love it. Will recommend to others and would buy agai
I spend a lot of time in my garage working on projects at my workbench. I often have to lean down to see better which strains my back. Using the adjustable desk has allowed me to work at a level which is more comfortable compared to bending forward. I really like having the ability to bring a project closer to my face instead of having to always lean forward.
I’m impressed how well built the desk is. The tabletop is heavy-duty and the metal frame and spring are very strong. There is a slight pinching danger if you do not read the instructions on how to properly raise and lower the table, so make sure you are careful the first time you use it. Once you figure out where your fingers are supposed to go then it is smooth sailing.
I would imagine a small framed or weak individual might have trouble pushing the table down unless there was a heavy object on top of it. The spring is pretty strong and requires some strength to lower the desk.
Using the adjustable desk in my garage workshop is fantastic and I would recommend it to any hobbyist or person who needs to intricately work with small parts on a regular basis.
was going to buy other brands from other countries when i came across the amazon basics.
its heavy but sturdy. you can lean elbows on it. I have a levenger editors desk on it and use it to write, edit, read and grade. doesnt move.
it rises in seemless steps so you can put it to the perfect height. i raise and lower it depending on the job.
very satisfied. I would buy this first before spending 300$+ for other companies.
For the price, you can’t beat this sit-stand converter.
I’m a digital artist who has been seeking an affordable and portable way to stand up while I work. This fits the bill nicely. One of the main draws of this converter for an illustrator is that it DOESN’T sacrifice the primary surface area for a keyboard deck. This is a no frills slab with plenty of room to fit a monitor, keyboard, drawing tablet, and a mouse. I keep my keyboard resting on the foot of my monitor stand, and my drawing tablet at the front.
If you are looking at this as a digital illustrator, I can not say how it would handle a massive Cintiq, but it will work well for most drawing tablets. There is some spring to the desk when one is leaning heavily on it, but it is negligible. This is a toolless converter, so it’s ready to go right out of the box. Adjusting the height of the desk is smooth and controlled; you don’t have to worry about a desk under load (within weight capacity) bearing all of its weight on your hands when you raise or lower it. In terms of portability, the unit is heavy, but it is portable in the sense that it’ll easily go where you want it to without the fuss of disassembly or the worry that it will not be able to fit through doorways or narrow spaces.
For reference, I am just under six feet, and the maximum height for this stand is more than enough.
I would say that unless you’re looking for maximum ergonomic support/keyboard decks, this desk converter is perfect for anyone spending a lot of time at the computer looking to improve their health by standing more often while working or just during general computer use – highly recommended.
It is springy when not raised to its near full height.
I am using this stand desk on a kitchen counter top, which is
six inches higher than a desk.
The unit is designed, and is, rigid when more fully extended.
Still, the lock holds, regardless. So, what’s not to like?
I do wish they would create a down sized desk model for laptops.
I am so impressed with this sit/stand desk. Attached are photos from my work desk I share this desk space and was concerned that my ‘partner’ wouldn’t like this addition to our desk. But it smoothly adjusts to our heights. It’s sturdy, and I can stand and lean on it while I write a grant. There’s room for paperwork on this along with my monitor, keyboard, mouse and pad, and speakers.
Physically, I feel great! I can stand at this all day long! Seriously, I can’t sit that long and feel good, but standing puts me in a better position with my work and, even though our flooring is cement (!) I don’t feel stiff and my back doesn’t hurt after I work standing up. It’s also nice to be able to easily turn and walk to the front counter; no getting up and sitting down constantly. It looks better to customers because I can just turn and walk, so it doesn’t look like I’m being interrupted to help them.
I love this and really recommend this very sturdy and adjustable (I’m 5’5′ and it will adjust to someone much taller) desk top.
I was skeptical about this product, at first. Then I started using it. It’s actually kind of fun. Tired of sitting? Raise the platform and stand instead, or kneel on a chair. I sit in a chair too many hours a day, and standing provides a great break. Even better is being able to stand and work. Fortunately, my monitor stands also raise and lower, and tilt, so I can raise the platform and the monitors and continue working.
The platform is stable when raised, which is important since the desk converter sits on the desk rather than being attached to it. Part of the stability is in the weight of the desk converter, which is relatively heavy. The width of the legs assists in the stability.
Raising and lowering the converter is a bit tricky at first, but easy after doing it several times. There is a handle under one of the converter ends. Grasp the hand firmly. If the converter does not move, push down slightly on the converter and the handle will depress further, allowing the converter to move readily. I am unsure of how high the converter raises, but it seems to be about two feet or so, which is about enough for most people to be able to stand comfortably while using a keyboard.
The mechanical parts appear to be solid and durable, with the only issue being that this particular converter is completely black and is not likely to match all desk colors. I played with the hardware to see how easily I could stick my fingers and/or hand into places where injury might result. It turns out to be more difficult than I thought, but not impossible. It is rarely a good think to put a hand or fingers into moving parts, and functionally it is difficult to do so if operating the device. On the other hand (no pun intended), keep others away from the converter during operation to avoid capturing the fingers and/or hand of bystanders.
I like this product. Initially, I thought I would not, but I am convinced. I also think this product could be useful in other ways as a display stand, as a portable floor table, and for other purposes. The uses for this product can expand well beyond the nominal use as a desk converter. Five stars for versatility, stability, and being a useful product.
Enjoy!
I absolutely love the fact that I did not have to assemble anything. AmazonBasics height adjustable sit-stand desk comes pre-assembled and ready to use straight out of the box. This sit-stand desk is very sturdy, well built, and somewhat heavy. The height adjusting mechanism is easily engaged by pushing on the surface of the desk and simultaneously pressing a lever/latch on its side.
At its full height, the desk extends significantly. I’m 6’2″ and it can go as high as my chest. I’m yet to use it to its full potential. The desk can hardly be used as the main work surface when collapsed, since it sits 2 inches above the desk. One option I have is to make it an adjustable computer stand, but then I can’t really do any paper work on it. Some larger models come with a keyboard tray, but this particular one does not.
This table is excellent. It’s strong, extremely sturdy and well constructed. It has a side lever which releases the height mechanism and allows you to adjust the table to the desired height. The size of the top is perfect for fitting onto a table top, along with an additional pile of paperwork or books to view. It has many uses but is primarily a desk height extension unit to allow you to stand at your desk for health and fitness reasons, rather than remain seated at your desk all day. The table is well constructed and there’s absolutely no wobble or instability with this product. It can also be used as a side table, coffee table or as a low work table if working from the sofa. In fact, you will always find a use and place for this piece of office furniture. Very versatile and I can highly recommend it.
This comes pre-assembled so to install it, just take your monitor/speakers/keyboard/mouse off your desk, put this on and, put them on top of it, and you are done. It is comically easy to use, with one grip on the right sire (or left side, if you put this on the other way around) to raise and lower the work station (for lack of a better term, that’s what I’ll call all the computer stuff on your desk. I am using it right now and already notice a big change.
What are my experiences? About an hour in, I’m adjusting the height to optimize the pressure on my wrists when typing. I’ve also tried playing a game with this engaged in standing mode and it was a different experience, to say the least. I like it. My legs and hips are already feeling better, and I look forward to being able to work for a few hours and not have that just-got-out-of-a-car-after-driving-to-Barstow feeling.
This unit feels solid and reliable. I am a relatively percussive typer, and even with me banging away, I’m not seeing any perceptible jiggle. Highly recommended. If I have anything else to report, I will revise this review.
This is very heavy, and it is not a thing of beauty. Both of these observations mean that once it is in situ, you may find it a little awkward to manoeuvre and it will not add much in an aesthetic sense to your office.
However, those points also make unobtrusive and very stable/solid. The mechanism is fairly simply, to get the table to rise, just applying a little pressure from directly above and it rises like a cherry picker. It can take a decent amount of weight as the base is metal and looks well constructed.
There`s definitely a benefit (especially for someone like me, with a troublesome back) to standing rather than sitting and I can see that this is a good idea. I have no idea what price it is though, so it isn`t easy to say whether it is good value.
What’s good:
Simple functionality
Easy to use
Decent working area
What’s not so good:
Doesn’t lower to ‘desk level’
Slight flex when used in a raised level
You need to ensure your monitor can also raise to a suitable level for correct posture
Spending a lot of time sat down at work is bad for you. Full stop. No question. I personally like to roam around the office a lot during the day. If I need to speak to a colleague, instead of emailing I will often just get up and find them. But there are times when I don’t need to roam around and I often forget to leave my desk, such is my nature.
I have a couple of different chairs at my desk, including a kneeler chair which I am currently using to help improve my back posture when sitting.
This sit-stand desk converter offers simple functionality that allows you to raise up your keyboard and mouse or whatever else you might have on your desk so that you can stand at your desk and still operate your device comfortably. Once placed on your desk, to operate you simply press down on the surface area whilst pulling the lever on the left hand side, and then the platform rises on assisted struts. It can raise up really quite high, much higher than I would find a use for. Placed on a normal height desk, at maximum height it is almost up to the height of my chest and I’m 6’0 tall.
When in use there is a slight flex when pressing down on it, so it’s not super-rigid, but it’s nothing that really bothers me at all. If all you’re doing is typing and light computer work then you’re not likely to notice.
The two aspects that might be a factor though, are based on the environment that you have it set up in. If you have it at its lowest setting, it is still creates a platform about 2 inches off the surface of the desk. This might affect your normal ergonomic seating position and you may have to adjust your chair and monitor to ensure alignment is correct. As I am currently using a kneeler chair, this creates a problem as a kneeler chair is not height adjustable.
The other thing is that if you have a monitor at the back of your desk, you would need to be able to adjust the height of the monitor else if the platform is raised you’d end up looking down at your monitor from a standing position, instead of looking in a more comfortable ‘straight-ahead’ position. My current workstation has a dual-monitor setup mounted on an adjustable desk bracket, but it doesn’t allow the monitors to raise up by very much. If you were to be using a laptop with it’s integrated screen, then in ‘standing’ position your screen would be situated lower down from your eye-line than it would be in ‘sitting’ position, which would put strain on your neck. The top of your screen should really be in line with your eyes when looking comfortably forward in any VDU setup.
Both of these things should be considerations before you purchase such an item and are by no means a fault of the unit, but a factor that you must think about in order to get the best use out of such a device.
The price of this device was not available at the time of my review so I can’t speak for it’s perceived value for money.
