My favourite trouser I own, I wear them everywhere.
The only downside is the way these do up. They use a popper which easily comes open when you sit down or kneel to do up your shoe lace etc.
This is a minor inconvenience as the trousers are so good in every other aspect, but would be a deal breaker on most other pairs.
Perfect fit n comfy but in cold weather omfg they need a base layer under them, very nice waterproofing but 100% summer walking/hiking trousers
Pleased to have found a pair of 34 inch long water resistant walking trousers, with 36 inch waist. Most others are 33inch long max. With the current dry summer have only been able to test them once so far in light rain but they seemed to work well, with rain beading on them and drying quickly. They are a good fit, not baggy and with a bit of stretch. Slightly plastic feel to the cloth, no doubt due to water resistant treatment. They seem well enough made, the only negative being the popper closing on the waist that does tend to pop open at times unless I wear a belt. The fit is quite snug so maybe think about getting a size larger in the waist than usual, which should help avoid the popping! I intend washing them only with the technical wash treatment to avoid losing the water resistant quality.
Let me start by saying I really like these trousers. I’ve worn them travelling around Iceland for a week and they kept me very comfortable in all elements; warm sun, harsh wind and even a snowstorm. The trousers have a single zipped rear pocket, two open front pockets (big enough for my wallet in one and a Samsung Ultra in a case in the other), and zipped vents along both thighs for when you get a bit warm. The legs are slim fitted and have hidden adjustable elasticated cords at the bottom. The water repellent fabric has kept me dry in light rain and also driving snow for about an hour, although isn’t water proof so I wouldn’t expect it to last much longer or in lashing rain.
Despite highly rating these trousers I have to drop a star for the one major design flaw… the popper fastening at the waist. This. Is. So. Annoying. It holds fine when walking – not coming undone once when I bounded up rocks or hundreds of steps – but I find it constantly pops open whenever I crouch down low, get in or out of a car or do any other movement that naturally stretches the waist more. I never felt like the trousers would fall down, the zip fly holds well, but it was just an annoyance that wouldn’t happen if they were fastened with a button.
So all in all a worthwhile buy if you can put up with doing up the popper again now and then.
The thigh vents come at the expense of more pockets, but offer the flexibility of wearing the trousers in milder or changeable weather, so that really comes down to personal preference.
My legs aren’t huge so I need a slimmish fitting leg size- these are perfect for me. I’ve tried several brands without luck so I bought 2!
These are brilliant LW trousers. Ok prob not waterproof in heavy storms but they are shower proof , easy fitting and best trousers i have used for comfort . Use for everyday wear . Second pair bought
due to bargain price
Very comfortable. Although let down by a press stud fitting for the waist.
Beghaus is noturious for being small fitting so get the next size up for sure.
Bought the trousers for hill walking, they are extremely comfortable and lightweight. and although they are not water proof they are extremely water repellent. I would definitely recommend these to anyone.
Berghaus is a brand Im becoming increasingly fond of. Their clothing have proved to be highly durable and long lasting, as well as fulfilling customer needs such as comfort and versatility. As the winter weather is quickly approaching, it’s always a good idea to leave the house with waterproof and lightweight clothing that can resist rain and wind easily. I’ve been using these for my daily evening walks in the park, and I must say that they have been a pleasure to use.
Despite some of the rain, these Ortler 2.0 trousers kept me dry and some what warm despite its lightweight properties. I did wish that the waist was a little elastic to really ensure that the trousers stayed secured tightly, but regardless this wasn’t a huge issue. The drawstrings on the legs are great and the fastenings across the trousers are built to a high standard and quality. The mesh pockets were great at keeping my belongings snug without them bouncing around.
I did feel however, that for a 74.95 trouser, the quality could’ve been a bit better, for instance the elastic waist and slightly better stiching to ensure that the the trousers won’t rip when taking long steep strides when trekking. Regardless, a solid all round waterproof trouser that’s both breathable and comfortable to wear. Would certainly recommend! 🙂 also, I love the simplistic aesthetic of the trousers.
Thank you for reading my honest review, I hope you found it helpful! 🙂
These are pretty good, although the sizing is on the ungenerous side — these didn’t fit my Dad, who typically wears a 36″ waist and who I’d intended them for, but were a good fit for my brother (usually a 34″ fit at the waist). The trousers are lightweight and nicely sewn. The waistband is lined with a lightweight microfibre fleece fabric. The fly fastens with a small metal snap fastener and a zip. There are zip fastening pockets in the legs of the trousers, and the back pocket is concealed under a flap of fabric, and has a zip closure. The ends of the legs have elasticated drawstrings, with toggles to making adjusting these easy. Good stretch to the fabric, so this moves well with the wearer’s body.
My son is 6′ 2″ with a 36″ waist these straight leg Ortler 2.0 fit him very well. The leg length is slightly long for him but his inside leg is 33″ not 34″. He had said to me he would have liked some stretch in the waistband for flexibility when moving, and at the moment doesn’t know if the vent zips on the legs are going to be useful (he initially thought they were very odd pockets as I did lol) but when the warmer weather is back I’m sure they’ll be of benefit. The trousers are showerproof and quite warm, they have a small zipped pocket on the front and a bigger zipped pocket on the back plus 2 standard open ‘jeans style’ front pockets with a zip fly and button. The knees have been stitched in a 2 way stretch fabric to allow more movement. The ankles have adjustable toggles in each to keep out the cold/rain and tightened are easier to put on boots over. They are made of a matte black polyester material that’s completely machine washable at 30 degrees and can be tumble dried. My son uses his for work as he’s outdoors in all weathers they hold up fine to this wet time of year. Please see my photos, I hope my review is helpful to you, thank you for reading it.
Berghaus is a big name when it comes to outdoor wear and these trousers are the second in the Ortler range. Having not tried the first and with only other alternatives to compare it to I checked these out to see if they were really made for walking.
First impressions were good as the fit is as expected – the waist is large enough, there is plenty of room within the leg and they are definitely long enough. There’s also plenty of flex in the material which both allows for movement and could suit a larger person – they are definitely bigger than others I’ve tried. In terms of quality, the material seems waterproof and is solid as are all the fastenings. There are adequate numbers of pockets and drawstring around the bottom – making them great for walking.
Overall then these are great walking trousers and come highly recommended.
Very good quality walking trousers. Comfortable, lightweight, water resistant and look good too. The only reason they’ve lost a star is that, for me, the pockets just aren’t deep enough. Would definitely recommend.
Nice looking trousers, I bought for my husbands birthday to replace an older pair of ortler trousers which were looking tatty. The styling seems to have changed slightly and the leg a bit more narrow, and the embroidered logo on the back has been replaced for a cheaper looking printed logo. They’re nice quality but not quite as good as they used to be.
