Simply the best available at a fair price, can’t be beaten for quality & value.
A little bulky. Bought for the goretex, and I love it. I used to always sweat a ton with other jackets. I can wear a fleece under this and still not sweat as much as I used to.
Good value and high quality goretex jacket. Very light weight. Delighted with this purchase.
Great jacket xxl and perfect fit, only negative, there is no hanging loop , strange as the fleece i have from the same makers at a quarter of the price has.
Great jacket for every day usage be it very rainy or windy .one can be outdoors ,
Protect yourself from high windy and rainy day, with a head covering. Great for every day usage. Definitely recommended.
I like it and wore several times during light rain, worked very good, waterproof and breathable, medium size fits my body, but a little bit too long for the sleeves
Berghaus Men’s Shell jacket is really something quite special. It is extremely lightweight, so easy to travel with. Easy to pack but it works in so many ways. It is Summer, it is ideal for summer rain. It is light and cool. So you get full protection from rain without overheating. However it Winter is will keep the wind and rain out.
Really good at keeping the rain out, and is of first-class quality. Definitely something for the outdoors type or anyone really. Definately worth the money.
This is a very nice black Berghaus hoodie which has a full length zip. It is made from 2L Gore Tex which is an extremely lightweight material whilst also being waterproof. My husband find this brand of clothing fits him perfectly, he is 6ft 2 inches and weighs approximately 15 stone … the XL size is a perfect fit.
This is a good looking hoody and the stitching is very neat and there are no loose edges. It washes well on a cool wash and I would suggest line drying is best … I’ve never had much luck in drying hoodies in the tumble dryer, they always seem to shrink.
Highly recommended.
Made by the brand Berghaus (or “Mountainhouse” in English), this is an expensive but very high quality jacket. I ordered mine in Limoges colour (modelled upon the shade of the popular French tourist destination) although the “lemon curry” version was also rather tempting. I’ve never tried a lemon curry before, although after an extremely unpleasant experience with lime pickle, I’m afraid that my mind has now closed off to the idea of using citrus fruits within Indian cuisine. That said, it does make for a very nice looking colour.
Anyway, the jacket is very well constructed from Paclite Dynax Gore-Tex. The material is extremely light weight, although not that it really matters. I don’t think I’ve ever come across anyone who
had be airlifted from a scenic hiking route, as a result of exhaustion caused by the sheer mass of their waterproof jacket. If you’re that worried about travelling light then you have far more to gain by making a worthy deposit in the lavatory, prior to setting off, than by shaving a few grams off the bulk of a jacket. All that kind of nonsense aside, it is comfortable to wear and does indeed keep the rain at bay.
PS Forgetting that the jacket is Limoges coloured, I inadvertently wore it to the city of Limoges on our holiday. Owing to the hue of the Paclite Dynax Gore-Tex, my torso was completely camouflaged against the backdrop of the historical city. With the front fully done up, I was solely visible from the neck up- which created the illusion of a floating decapitated head. Naturally, the locals mistook this sight for the ghost of a French Viscount, who had been executed by guillotine during the French revolution. How we all laughed, after I removed my Paclite Dynax Gore-Tex jacket and explained the situation!
This is probably the best lightweight, functional jacket that Mr H has had the pleasure of owning. Everything about it shouts quality, as indeed you would expect from a renowned brand like Berghaus.
The attention to detail is impressive: internally sealed seams that guarantee no water leaking in; a stiffened peak on the hood to offer added protection from rain and wind; velcro tabs on the cuffs for draughtproofing; and covered zips with toggles for ease of use with gloves or cold hands.
The cut is generous, allowing for unrestricted movement and leaving plenty room for layers underneath, while the lightweight Gore-Tex fabric means that the jacket can conveniently fold up very small for packing in a rucksack.
At 6’5″ and 98kg, Mr H got this in an XL, which fits him perfectly. Most pleasing is the generous sleeve and body length.
The jacket got its first real test recently at an open air concert when a summer thunderstorm soaked the audience. Mr H was one of the very few concert-goers to emerge completely dry and delighted. He was equally thrilled with the jacket’s breathable qualities, which were much appreciated given the 30 degree heat.
While some might balk at forking out 125 for what is basically a rain jacket, this is worth every penny, for quality, functionality and durability. Highly recommended.
Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.
So this is an excellent, lightweight, waterproof jacket that ideal for any activity where you want to add a waterproof layer without adding practically any weight or heat, it is perfect for activities in summer showers. So the weight of this jacket is great, it is so light for its size, comparing it to my other summer outerwear it is by far the lightest option. The jacket fits me well, I generally wear a small in most tops but I thought as this is going on top of other layers and in my opinion it is always better to play it safe when ordering online and order a size up, so I ordered this in a large and I think that was a wise choice, it is nicely fitted in the right places while still having plenty of room on the inside to allow me to wear what I want underneath, the adjustable cuffs also help with the sizing.
The material is great, it is lightweight and breathable without being plasticky or cheap feeling, it has a nice matte finish to it and it great in every way other than the fact it is a little noisy, it crinkles quite a bit while moving, nothing I don’t expect from this style of jacket but it just would have been nice to be a bit quieter. Overall I’m really happy with the jacket, it is perfect for wearing in hot rain which we seem to have a lot of now and keep you dry and cool.
This jacket is light and yet protects you from the wind and the rain. I love the colour and it’s just the right length. The hood is intelligently designed. It’s tailoring keeps the rain out effectively without the need of a stiffened peak. It’s an exceptionally stylish jacket. Comfortable fit, good roomy pockets, hood fits well, even over a woolly hat.
Amazing shell jacket from Berghaus, best i ever had for windy and rainy days. This is just perfect for hiking in peak district, mountains or simply for every day jacket.
Jacket is made fully from polyester and has waterproof membrane, on top of that it is tagged with gore tex which like everybody knows lead on market when comes to making waterproof clothes. Jacket is super thin and can be stored in backpack in case rain will come, it takes literally no space at all. Every part of this jacket is fully adjustable with straps as well hood. Pocket are massive on front, will hold a lot which i love personally.
On body jacket is extremely comfortable, gives flexibility and during hot weather still breathing so you don’t feel like in a jar. Very gentle branding and marking makes this jacket great looking too. Full black color with berghaus logo on chest and gore tex on sleeve. Love this jacket, by mate for every trip and every day.
This is a great quality coat. I order an XXL and it actually is large which means I can wear it on its own or it will easily fit over large coats in winter to keep me dry. This coat is perfect for summer/spring showers when all you need is something lightweight to protect you from the rain, which is does perfectly. Once you no longer need the jacket it is easy to shake dry and fit back into your bag. This jacket will also be great in colder months as part of a layer system helping keep you dry and warm. The pockets have zips and are angled well to protect them from the rain.
As a “mountain brand” Berghaus have been around for as long as I can remember and are well renowned for producing functional and quality outdoor gear that is well designed and manufactured.
This Berghaus Paclite Gore-tex jacket is no exception to this and will not be out of place whether it’s worn on the fells, in the Alps or on the school run!
The design is simple, but well thought out and it is exceptionality well made. I cannot see one stitching irregularly or example of poor construction anywhere on the jacket. The seams are internally taped as you’d expect on a Gore-tex jacket and the water repellency is excellent. Bear in mind that you will have to clean and re-proof this jacket from time to time to keep it performing like it does when first worn.
I’m 1.85m (6’1″) and 96 Kg and the XL size was a perfect fit for me and whilst it can be worn on its own over a t-shirt, the sizing also allows for a few layers underneath for colder conditions.
The cut of the jacket is great for active use, like climbing, hiking and fast alpine work. The hood adjustment is simple and effective, there are zip toggles and Velcro wrist adjustment tabs.
The Paclite name is appropriate; I measured the weight of the jacket at just over 400g. I think that this is great for a 2L jacket and with this kind of performance at around 120 it’s hard to justify spending more to buy a jacket with a 3L fabric.
It’s probably not up to ultra-marathon standards, but as something that will suit a wide range of people for UK and alpine conditions, which is going to last well, then this jacket is a serious contender.
Berghaus Men’s Paclite Dynak Gore-tex Waterproof Shell Shell Jacket (pack of 1
My partner has been buying Berghaus products for years, whether that is their (waterpoof) jackets and coats or their shoes. Given their quality and craftmanship we know you simply cannot go wrong.
This jacket is absolutely no exception to the rule. It is very lightweight so it can easily be worn in spring and autumn when you get those sticky/damp days when it’s hard to decide whether to wear a thick wintercoat or a light jacket.
The jacket is windproof which helps retain your body heat, without being a wearable sweat-lodge. We’ve not been able to test out the waterproofing yet but I have no doubt that will be absolutely spot on.
We grabbed the jacket in a slightly larger size, though that is entirely due to personal reasons. As my partner likes to double up, sticking a comfy fleece or hoody under the jacket in winter, providing him with all the layers and comfort he needs.
All in all you simply cannot go wrong with a Berghaus coat. Yes they are a bit of an expenditure at the outset, however a single coat will honestly last you for years and years with daily use.
This men’s jacket is lovely quality- the same usual standard from Berghaus. It is zipped and has a hood and it is lightweight and waterproof. The sizing is spot on and it fits nicely. Really good all round jacket for the not so cold weather.
Berghaus is a name the majority will recognise. My family and I have owned many items from this brand and have found it to be one that can be trusted to deliver great quality items of clothing. Living not too far from the beautiful Lake District, my family and I will very often go walking there. Unfortunately, the weather there has the uncanny habit of raining even when you think it is going to be a glorious day. This waterproof shell jacket is absolutely perfect for rolling up and popping into the rucksack without taking up a mass of space. It is super lightweight and roomy enough to be able to put on over the top of whatever you are wearing without feeling tight.
The quality is exactly what I expect from this brand. It feels great and of course, the zips flow effortlessly right up to under the chin.
The zipped pockets will ensure anything that is in them will stay nice and dry and they are a decent size too so you could easily fit your mobile phone, wallet, keys etc.
There are no internal pockets on this one, not that that is a mega important point.
My husband first tried this out when we decided to take a nice romantic walk in the rain one evening. It wasn’t leathering it down but was enough to get wet if you didn’t have a waterproof. Obviously, it did the job perfectly and he said he was more than happy with this jacket.
If you are in the market for a waterproof coat, I would strongly recommend this brand as they have never failed to impress us yet. A strong 5/5.
This is a very lightweight waterproof jacket that compacts to a very small size when not in use. It is made of fully waterproof fabric and will keep you completely dry.
There are ties on the jacket to also help with keeping the wind out. The pockets are zipped to keep contents safe & dry and are deep enough for my personal use.
I got this in a Large size and it fitted perfectly, with enough room for me to wear a couple of layers below it if I so required. A very good portable and effective rainproof & windproof jacket.
A good stylish and yet functionable jacket from trusted brand.
Size wise, slight loose for a medium, will have to use the velcro on the cuffs to tightened, keeping it covering my hand. ( front length about 70cm from shoulder to bottom with shoulder to sleeve about 67 cm, the opening at the cuff is 16cm )
It is quite thin and light and folded into about 2 t-shirt stacked together.
The finishing on the product is premium all round. Well designed with smooth YKK zip, adjustable hood with tightening at the back, slightly hardened top hood and quite deep pockets ( not me thought )
Price wise, it is slightly above the market, but you are paying for the quality and brand.
Quality as you’d expect from Berghaus (and the price).
It’s a great lightweight jacket for summer.
Gore-tex material that is waterproof but allows your skin to breathe to prevent you from becoming a sweaty mess as soon as the rain stops.
It looks great, and I absolutely love the little peak on the hood which you can mould into a cap shape.
Yes, it’s expensive, but I think it is good value for the money. It’ll probably be the best lightweight rain jacket you own.
Usual high quality Berghaus rainproof jacket with Gore-Tex. It packs away into a very small space, making it an ideal companion should rain be in the air.
Looks-wise, it’s quite simple and classic – a no frills design that’s never going to go out of style.
With this on I look like a slightly older version of Liam Gallagher (according to my son), but I think it’s suitable for all age groups.
The name says it all really. Berghaus. I expected quality and that is exactly what I received.
Made from Gore-Tex fabric which is completely waterproof and wind proof, even in the heaviest of downpours. This shell jacket has adjustable cuffs, hood and hem to get the best watertight fit. I love that the zip fastens up right under the chin, and the hood is large enough to pull over the face to keep the rain off the face as much as possible whilst still actually being able to see to walk!
There are zipped deep pockets on the front to keep valuables secure and dry. The jacket is light and breathable making it comfortable to wear all day. And if it gets too hot, the jacket can be rolled / folded to quite a small package making it easy to carry as it is lightweight too.
I ordered a large which is a really good fit. There is enough room for a thick jumper to go underneath.
My husband does a lot of walking and this jacket is going to be very well used. He is very happy with it. You get what you pay for as my mum always said!
Would definitely recommend.
5″7, 65kg, medium size fits just fine. Able to roll this up tightly and store in a backpack, doesn’t feel restrictive at all whist wearing. Will usually wear this over a work suit and it keeps me warm as well, great material and looks sleek.
Good brand. Adjustable cuffs and arm vents but above all waterproof
Genuine pac-lite Gortex jacket, ideal for shoving into panniers or back pack.
Good, adjustable hood.
Just used this product in the high lakeland fells. 60 mph gusts, rain and significant wind chill. It was practical, completely wind proof and kept me dry. Brilliant!
Very waterproof windproof and you don’t sweat at all in this superb jacket.
I think inner pocket should be deeper for car/door keys.
Small inside pocket may not be ideal for everyone; can hold a 14.5 x 7cm mobile phone fine, but probably not phones any bigger.
I literally was very surprised how lightweight this jacket is when it has arrived. For the price I thought it will be padded or surely thicker and heavier..but surprise, surprise..
Husband tried it on and it fits him really well. There is room for thicker jumper as well. Fabric is 100% waterproof which we have tested under the tap water. Fabric is extra thin, not lined. All the seams are taped from inside so no water will enter through them. Pocket zips aren’t waterproof but well covered so that’s okay. There are only 2 pockets on this jacket. Main zip is plastic coated, waterproof.
Sleeves are velcro secured, they can be tightened to keep warmth within the jacket. Elastic band is placed on the bottom of the jacket and on the hood from the back.
All in all, this jacket is really well made and does great job. Colour is beautiful, deep blue but the price is extra high 160…
This is a really good waterproof shell jacket.
It arrived just as the heavens opened, so there was the perfect opportunity to test its waterproof credentials. It didn’t disappoint. Even in heavy rain it’s completely waterproof. At only 365g, it’s also very light indeed. Sizing is quite generous, and there’s room for a substantial fleece underneath if you need it, but in warm weather its lightness is a real bonus.
With a fairly tough outer shell layer, two layers of Gore-Tex membrane and Gore-Tex’s hi-tech Paclite lining, it combines excellent waterproofing, light weight, and breathability to give a very versatile garment that can be used year-round. The zips feel very solid and work very smoothly. The waist can be tightened and secured via toggles for windproofing, and the hood can be zipped up above chin level for more weather resistance.
The outer shell, while reasonably resilient, wouldn’t be ideal for rock climbing, where constant abrasion would demand a tougher material, but this jacket isn’t designed for that, and it would be great for almost any situation otherwise.
Overall, I’m very pleased with this jacket. A well-deserved five star review.
This is a really well-made and practical, lightweight rain coat.
The coat is made from a waterproof fabric, and on the inside there are seals covering all of the seams, so no water can get through the stitched areas. The zip fastening has a plasticky coating over it to stop water coming through, and on the inside there is a layer of overlapping fabric.
The cuffs have hook and loop tape sections which can be adjusted to fit tightly around the wearer’s wrists.
The collar fastens right up to the chin, with a section of fabric covering the zip at the top. The hood has an elasticated section around the face to help keep it close-fitting, and an elasticated drawstring cord at the back. It also features a small, stiffened brim section at the front, to help keep rainwater from the wearer’s face.
The pockets have zip fastenings with flaps over the tops, and cords on the zip pulls to make using these easier.
The coat is thin and lightweight, and folds up very neatly for storage. The doesn’t absorb water and the outer shell dries off very quickly. This is warm in wear.
The blue colour is as vivid in real life as it appeared on screen.
This waterproof jacket arrived folded in a plastic bag.
I ordered a large and it fits well, I really love the bright fishermen type colour called curry lemon in the description! You certainly won’t get lost in the rain wearing this jacket!
It has two really big deep pockets with zips which are great for even the largest size phone etc.
The cuffs have Velcro so you can adjust the size, the inside has toggles as the waist corners so you can pull it in tight making it even more waterproof and the back of the hood also has a toggle to adjust the size making it tighter fitting for your head!
The material is gortex so completely waterproof but the jacket is still super lightweight so great for a warmer rainy day. The on,y downside for me is the inner lining is just the same waterproof material, it really would be better with a mesh lining so as on warmer rainy days the plastic lining will make you really hot and sweaty.
Overall though it’s a lovely rain jacket although priced slighter on the higher side then I would normally expect to pay for a rain jacket.
This is a useful item. Item can be rolled up and kept ready for when you are caught out in bad weather. Note there’s no lining in this item as such so it is most times there to cover say a fleece or thick sweatshirt. As such, this has the extra room in it to make the sizing correct in my opinion.
Gore Tex so you know it’s going to be waterproof and stay that way for a while. It is quite a short jacket so won’t keep your legs dry.
