Excellent product, it works really well. Light-weight and easy to handle, easy to swap between attachments, great variety of tools coming with it. Recommended
This product is small and compact. Ideal for getting into tight corners.
My husband brought this for me as a joke but it’s fantastic no more waiting for things to be done
This is an excellent tool. Easy to use and so much more ergonomic than those of a few years ago. This helped me to help my niece with her flat pack furniture in a new flat. Without it I may still be there!
I was worried that the 3 straight and angled heads from my old IXO driver wouldn’t fit this model. I checked with BOSCH and the do so I bought one. They do fit so if you’ve got the same query, you’re OK.
I have a few more powerful battery drills and I wanted one that is lighter in my hand. This is the one. What surprised me is how slow it turns even at full speed. But then I realized that this makes it a lot more powerful. I was able to remove large screws from a wooden fence post that I never expected that it could remove. It clearly has gearing for power rather than spend. It’s my go to drill now.
Good price
Nice container including screw bits
Easy to operate
Great tool
Easy to use
Came in a nice case
Would recommend and buy agai
Pretty useful for home furniture assembly and ikea etc. Does not fit in tight corners though and may need additional attachments
Say no more? Really pleased with this. Perfect size for my small hands and not too heavy to use with slightly arthritic hands
Had one for 12 years and never let me down , turns light off when charge, MEGA Gif
Good battery life and surprisingly good torque for a small electric screwdriver. Replacing a much cheaper model, which only lasted eighteen months. Buy well, buy once – as the saying goes.
This the 4th IXO that I`ve had , and they have all been very good . This new style is better than the old one, as it has soft start which makes it much easier to use. The torch seems better also. The new shape looks a bit odd, but it is actually easier to use.
The angled adaptors you can buy are a little pricey, but when you really need one ,they are worth it.
Finally the box it comes in well thought out, and now I do keep the IXO in it.
This is a great little screwdriver – I use it to build wardrobes and put up blinds and shelves ….. but just remember it’s a screwdriver not a drill. I don’t understand any of the poor reviews. , I have Dewalt drills which are great and also Makita but when i want to do a small job i use this it’s small enough to get into small places and light to work with for a while. It rechargeable and comes with a nice hard case to keep it and the bits that come with.
Just get one for your tool box – you won’t regret. The price is ok as cheaper ones are not variable speed or have poor torque.
Have used a couple of times to dismantle and rebuild flat packed furniture and a few other little jobs and it hasn’t had any issues. Only charged it once to do the above but as with any battery powered device, time will tell how good (or not) the battery really is.
It’s nice and light and with the right adapter will take any standard screwdriver/socket bit.
Bought for my partner as she repurposes furniture as a hobby but has only used it for the flat pack stuff so far but she finds it easy and comfortable use.
Built-in light has actually been handy so far.
Comes without dedicated charger even though there is clearly a space for one in the case. Bosch website does not appear to have them and Amazon says not available. OK you can charge from another USB but if you want the official charger the only place I could find one (new) was a certain well known auction site.
Nice bit of kit slightly spoiled by apparent cost(corner)cutting in my view
Disappointed…..
Went for ixo 7th gen but no variable speed. Should have stated that in description. Returned straight away and went for 6th gen which did have variable speed…….. Bad mistake from Bosch I think.
Bought as Xmas present only given 4 stars due to there being a space for a plug in the box but there is no plug with it to put the charging cable into. This should be stated on descriptions so those who do not have spare plugs about know
This is a great little electric screwdriver. Really handy just to have around the house for those quick smaller jobs. I also have a Dewalt power driver for larget jobs, but this little thing does the majority of the jobs I need and the torque is surprisingly good for such a small little tool.
I would highly recommend it and am surprised how good it is.
It’s light, portable and small. Converts to drill if you buy the extras. Then the case is not a good design because the extra bits don’t fit in – surely Bosch could have thought of that?
Really liked this screwdriver after giving it an intensive work out over three days. It’s easy to use, battery life and torque are good, the variable speed based on trigger push is excellent and the optional extra heads are easy to swap. Unfortunately only one of the extra heads can be stored in the kitbox (see photo).
The silly design flaw is that the light (which I found quite helpful when using under a kitchen cabinet) is almost entirely covered when any of the optional accessory heads are attached. It makes the light ineffective, but the torch on my mobile saved the day!
Too lightweight. Maybe I glossed over the details but it is SO light that I don’t think I will ever use it for what I originally needed.
Torque good enough for interior work and ‘nipping’ screws into place. Great battery life and light comes in handy for dark (attic) places. Faster than by hand and feels nice. foreword/ reverse slide button is lovely positioned. Bit expensive (that’s why 4 stars), but I may edit if it lasts a long time. Good charging time. Nice and handy to have it in my toolbox/not bad accessories and case. Good magnetic slot for the screw bits.
Philbea
Bought this for my husband last Christmas and he’s only just got round to using it! He didn’t seem that impressed when he opened it but boy is he loving it now! It’s been worth it’s weight in gold when recently moving our son and his family into a new home and having lots of furniture to build etc. and now my son wants to keep it! Think we’ll buy him his own for his Birthday. It has exceptional torque for such a light tool and great battery life. Feels good in the hand and is great for small spaces. Can’t recommend highly enough.
This sits alongside my Festool 10.8v drill/driver (at 5x the price of this driver) and both get used with pleasure and equal respect.
I bought this IXO 6th generation screwdriver because it is lightweight. Even the Festool is lumpy by comparison (1080 grammes with the chuck attached). I spend much of my time doing bespoke picture framing, and need something with a good power to weight ratio. And this little Bosch is just perfect.
Why do cordless power tools all weigh 1kg or over? Some considerably more if you put a big battery on. And they are mostly intended for use with just one hand. That’s quite a lump, and gives me RSI/wrist strain. This Bosch is 380 grammes, including a short screwdriver extender and the screwdriver bit; fantastic.
This 6th generation is variable speed (some of the previous versions aren’t), and starts very slowly with a slight squeeze of the trigger, great for small screws and getting the bit properly engaged into the screw. It’ll easily drive 4mm x 25mm screws into a pre-drilled hole in normal softwood. Reversible by using the switch above/in front of the hand grip, which is reachable with your thumb.
I’ve had it for several months, and have only just had to recharge it!
Honestly, brilliant. so ergonomic. So many cordless drills are simply too big even for the normal man’s hand, leading to strain and injury. This Bosch sits really well in the hand, has a nice simple grip, and it gives you great confidence for fiddly jobs.
And now Bosch have introduced extras for it, like a torque control (never use torque control, prefer to ‘feel’ my way in and tighten using my own judgement, this never strips a hole with the screw ending up just going round and round) and a corkscrew !?!.
Smaller power tools like this are often under-rated. If you’re looking for something which is good value for money, this is it. For home or in the workshop.
Bought this a couple of days ago, so have not used it in anger yet, but, looks and feels a nifty piece of kit. Easy to change bits and charge. Would have been nice to have had a charger socket for the wall as well, but, my raspberry pi power plug does the trick. It also works with a phone charger as well, which is handy. All in all quite pleased, trying to get it registered now for the 3 years guarantee.
Update: Used it for the first time today. OK, but not for heavy duty use. But still handy to have around for those smaller jobs
The item is reasonably proceed and much easier than using my drill for this type of work as I have done previously.
A full charge enabled me to build 2 items of self assembly furniture before a recharge was required. Power was OK for this type of use although I am not sure how this would cope with screwing in to walls and slightly more demanding tasks.
You only get a couple of fitting with the crew driver – which means you almost certainly need to buy additional driver heads to be flexible and meet the needs of typical self assembly furniture requirements. Please consider this when making the purchase.
Much better than using a large and heavy drill for this type of work, has enough power for basic tasks and utlimately good value for money based on the reduced price paid.
While this is a little bigger than the first very version of these we have (we were embarking on a lot of DIY and more than a little IKEA for the kids rooms) it is comfortable and easy to use with a long battery life.
Until the first one, it does not come with a charging cradle, instead you just plug in a micro-usb lead.
It does come with a neat case but the big difference is the direction switch. Rather than being on the side, so you push it inwards from one side or the other to set the direction (or accidentally change the direction), this new version has a very easy thumb switch on the top, which is FAR better.
The only (small) gripe I have is that the barrel diameter, the overall thickness of the screwdriver, is quite large, so you cannot always get the bit into moderately tightfitting areas and have to resort to a manual screwdriver.
I have two similar electric screwdrivers. This Bosch and an old Ryobi of a similar size and which cost a similar amount several years ago. I bought this Bosch because the battery on the Ryobi was starting to take less charge.
The plus: The Bosch is light weight and charges via USB. I’m not sure this is a particular advantage but at least if I lose the charger, I can use another. A half squeeze on the trigger turns on the light. On the Ryobi, the mandril has to be turning for the light to be on. It is slightly faster than the Ryobi. There are right angle accessories available for it.
The minus: The screwdriver bit is held in place by magnet. It can sometimes remain stuck in the screw, coming out of the driver. On the Ryobi, you have to release it to remove it.
The Bosch doesn’t hold its charge any better than the Ryobi and seems to have a lower torque. Unlike the Ryobi, you can’t adjust the torque setting either. The forward and reverse slider is difficult to use singlehanded as it is on the back of the handle.
Its drab dark green colour and small size makes it very easy to lose. Its current status is “Lost”. The Ryobi in yellow (or any bright colour such as yellow DeWalt or a red Black and Decker) is much easier to find.
I think there are better electric screwdrivers around. I much prefer the old Ryobi despite its ailing battery
I’m correcting my original review (but keeping it as 4 stars) because I found that you can buy a Torque Setting Adapter (see original comment below) for around 12-15. That takes it to a pricey 44-ish. Might be better to just buy a more expensive, but more powerful, cordless screwdriver with this function as standard. But after 9 months regular use, my wife and I still both like this little screwdriver for light work.
Original Review: I’m happy with this little electric screwdriver – a welcome, and long overdue addition to my tool set. It’s light, compact, handy, and comes in a very nice storage case with an adequate set of screw-bits. I was a little surprised to find that it didn’t have variable speed control – it just has forward and reverse, and there’s no adjustable slip clutch – features that I take for granted on my cordless drill. Also the “trigger” takes up a lot of the handle, so it’s easy to activate the motor accidentally while picking it up – not that it’s likely to do much damage. It’s a compromise between torque/motor size, battery capacity and weight – a mere 11 ounces compared to my drill at nearly 3 pounds. Great for the majority of jobs for me, but I’m glad I have my drill as a back-up for serious stuff.
This is my second Bosch IXO cordless screwdriver, bought at a very reasonable price during deals of the day on a whim. My previous generation IXO has been going solidly for almost a decade without any issues at all. As with most electronic items with non-replaceable internal batteries, it has been holding a little bit less charge than when it was new as expected, but still lasts long enough and with enough power to be useful so I wasn’t necessarily looking to replace it as such.
This new version has all the functionality of the previous version with a few improvements as you would expect.
First of all and for me personally as someone with fairly large hands, I found the revised placement of the direction switch a much better location to mount it. With the previous one the switch was just above the trigger and on a few occasions I found when I applied pressure in certain angles my fingers/thumb would inadvertently knock the switch out of position. On the new one it is a bigger switch and is located on the top of the tool behind the charging light making it much more user friendly and ergonomic.
Another revised feature is the new micro USB charging port located at the base of the hand grip, it achieves a more positive connection than the old charging cradle which would sometimes slip off its small charging spring clips, also being micro USB it’s much easier to find a cable to charge it since it’s a very common charging method and easily replaced if damaged/lost.
One feature that has gone slightly backwards in terms of functionality is the LED on the front of the tool. When used with the packaged rubber surround it is perfectly usable, even having 2 different settings if you rotate the cover 180 switching it between a spotlight to more of an area floodlight. It only becomes an issue if you attach any of the accessories to the front, I regularly use the offset adapter and the variable torque setting adapter, both of which completely obscure the light, not a deal breaker by any means but could of been avoided as it was on the older model being mounted slightly below the edge of the adapter.
Apart from this small gripe and to be honest it’s a very small one, I’ve found the tool to be extremely useful just as it’s older sibling has been and I’m sure will continue to be while the new one is on charge, always handy to have backup!
I should have bought one of these years ago. It’s a compact and robust little gadget which packs a punch for it’s size. I use it a few times per week and not only does it wind screws in tight and solid, it does it fast and saves time. If you’re assembling flat packs, then it also saves you from blisters or repetitive strain injuries associated with conventional hand tools!
The worklight on the front shines the light exactly where you need it, and you have the option of switching the lens for either a spot or flood light pattern. Having installed an intruder alarm control panel in a dark cupboard corner recently, this little light helped far more than a standard torch alone.
The tool comes with a selection of different driver bits, and is presented in a stylish, smooth white case with the IXO logo embossed on it. While the case itself is well made and rugged, the design is really at odds with your typical power tool cases. I can see it being broken after a week of being bumped around inside a contractor’s van. That said, its small, space-saving design should allow you to tuck it away from the risk of breakage.
Lastly, the battery seems to last quite a long time, although it’s tricky to say exactly how long because it depends on various factors. I use it primarily for hobbies and small projects, and i’ve only charged it once in the month i’ve had it. The good news is that a full charge only takes around 3 hours!
All in all, i’m very happy with this item. It’s Bosch, so you know you’re buying top quality. This is one my best purchases of 2019 so far.
BOSCH IXO 3 603 JA8 000
CORDLESS 3.6V LITHIUM-ION SCREWDRIVER with 10-PIECE BIT SET
10/2016
~ Guarantee – 2 yr (limited), extendable to 3 years, by registering with ‘MyBosch’.
‘Made in Hungary’
The impressive set comes in a cellophane-wrapped, white, aluminium-type case, measuring around 24 cm x 16 cm x 6 cm. The case is opened easily by pulling on the handy red & white fabric tab labelled ‘IXO’. The screwdriver has a similar tab to help extract it from its snug fit in the case insert. The lid of the case has a layer of sponge-type lining.
Inside the case, in a compartmentalised, pre-formed rigid plastic-type insert are:
1 x SCREWDRIVER HAND-PIECE
1 x MICRO USB CHARGING CABLE (around 1.5 m + UK plug)
1 x MULTI-LINGUAL COMBINED SAFETY & INSTRUCTION MANUAL
1 x 10-PIECE BIT SET, consisting of the following styles & sizes:
* 3 x Phillips : PH0, PH1 & PH2
* 2 x Pozidriv : PZ1 & PZ2
* 1 x Slotted : S4
* 2 x TORX : T10 & T20
* 2 x Internal Hexagon (Allen Key) : HEX4 & HEX5
The 10 bits are tightly contained in a rubber strip, which does make extracting the required bit quite difficult and needing a firm tug. I found it easier pushing through from the bottom rather than trying to pull from the top. The chosen bit is easy to push in to place and pull out from the screwdriver unit.
The screwdriver unit arrives with some charge within the Lithium-ion battery but instructions advise to fully charge the unit prior to first use. This took around 3 hours, as indicated by the green charging light no longer being illuminated on the top of the unit.
Relatively lightweight, the part soft-grip driver unit is comfortable in hand and is easy enough to use one-handed, as shown in the website pictures. However, I used both hands to ensure the straight application of the screw.
Simply slide to select ‘forward’ or ‘reverse’ on the red switch on the top of the unit and pull on the two-finger size red ‘trigger’ to commence screwing or unscrewing.
The integrated light (white) is also activated via the trigger, with a choice of ‘spot’ or ‘scatter’, by simply twisting the ‘Dispersing Lens’.
My only slight criticism is that I would prefer the magnetism that holds the chosen bit in place to flow through the bit to hold the screw.
Other things I would consider if purchasing again would be a variable speed option and a built-in clutch mechanism to stop the possibility of over-screwing.
Having said that, it is a sturdy piece of equipment and well presented, making it a great gift idea, especially with Christmas just around the corner (at the time of writing).
ooOoo
I bought this on impulse on the ‘Black Friday’ offer, mainly for the cordless capability and opted to include the also discounted, separate 32-piece Bit Set in the purchase, to ensure I would have every possible angle covered, so to speak, and, in particular, all the correct ‘bits’ required for a washing machine door-seal replacement. This required multiple access points using an ‘Internal Hexagon’ bit size 3. The screwdriver made light work of all the screws, in reverse mode, including one that had slightly rusted and needed a little more care. Re-assembly of the washing machine was just as easy, with plenty of power left at the end.
Accessories are available for the BOSCH IXO 3 & 4, but it looks like they may obscure the light functionality?
These include, at the time of writing:
TORQUE SETTING ATTACHMENT
EASY-REACH ADAPTER
ANGLE GEAR ATTACHMENT
CUTTER ADAPTER
CORKSCREW ADAPTER
SPICE MILL ADAPTER
BBQ ADAPTER
