Step 1

Remove the thermometer from the protective case. Push the Power button. The Hygiene cap indicator will blink to signal one is needed. Attach a new Hygiene cap by pushing the thermometer probe straight into the Hygiene cap inside the box and then pulling out.

(*) Note: To achieve accurate measurements, make sure a new, clean Hygiene cap is in place before each measurement. The Braun ThermoScan will not work unless a Hygiene cap is attached.

Step 2

Select age with Age Precision button. Press button to toggle through each age group.

(*) Note: You must select an age in order to take a measurement.

Step 3

Fit the probe snuggly into the ear canal and direct towards opposite temple. ExacTemp will confirm stability and indicate consistent probe position with a light and a beep. Then push and release the Start button.

ExacTemp light will pulse while temperature measurement is in progress. The light will remain solid for 3 seconds to indicate that a successful temperature reading has been achieved.

The confirmation beep indicates that an accurate temperature measurement has been taken.

Step 4

For the next measurement, press Eject button to remove and discard used Hygiene cap.

The Braun ThermoScan Ear thermometer turns off automatically after 60 seconds of inactivity. The thermometer can also be turned off by pressing the Power button.

I purchased this for my daughter who’s recent(ish) baby hasn’t been too well and they only had an armpit thermometer that wasn’t too good. She mentioned to me she’d like to get an ear device so Grandpa went onto Amazon, saw and liked the ThermoScan 7 ordered it.
It was the fastest delivery I’ve ever had!! Ordered 18:10hrs arrived (at her house) 08.00hr following day – 5hrs before said time of delivery. Excellent all round. Thank you to all involved.

I bought this thermometer after discovering my old one wasn’t working properly after a trip to the GP with my daughter when she had croup a few weeks back. I thought her temp was fine with the readings on my old one but the GP said her temp was high and it was over 39. So after that, it was a no brainer that it needed replacing. But I wanted one that was going to be effective. This is on the pricey side admittedly, but this was the cheapest by far when comparing prices elsewhere. My daughter has had chickenpox this week and thank goodness for my new Braun thermometer. I took my daughter’s temperature with both thermometers at the same time and the difference was 2 degrees!! Easy to keep the ear piece clean with the replacement ear caps. It’s portable but a little on the larger side than most. Will definitely be buying this again in the future if or when it may be required! You can change the age range on the thermometer too. Which is a great addition. I have 2 girls. Both at different ages. It also changed colour as the temperatures increased. I would certainly recommend this to anyone, especially if you have children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect must have when you have little ones!

Bought this because I am having problems with recurrent illness and hypothermia. My normal thermometer was reading my temp as 32C which is classed as an emergency, although the same one read my husband’s temp as normal. By the I get to the doc, my temp has normalised and they don’t believe me. This is the same model as the GP, so next time I am ill, I can check my temp accurately.
BUT, the instructions say location of device is crucial and a light and beep will go to tell you it is correctly positioned before pushing the start button. This doesn’t happen. My temp looks OK at the moment, so fingers crossed I am locating it properly. It isn’t easy to know if you are far enough in, or pointing at ‘opposite temple’ as instructed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fiddly to use, but so long as it is accurate, it's ok

Can’t recommend this hermometre enough. I took my son to the doctor for an ear infection and this was the type he used, although I am not sure it is the exact same model. Seeing how easy it was I came back and bought this immediately.

Incredibly easy to use. Turn on, select age range, pop it in the ear and press a button. The whole sequence probably takes 5 seconds and is so much simpler than using an under the armpit thermometer. They are slow and would often give out slightly different readings each time. Plus trying to hold a baby’s arm down when they are upset and ill, is difficult and will often upset them more.

They barely notice this is their ear and its quick and accurate. Best thing is you can use it for adults too. Comes with a pack of disposable tips as well, so if the baby has a bit of wax in their ear, you don’t have to clean the thermometer constantly.

Another useful feature is the memory function, which remembers the previous temperature taken. Great when you are trying to track whether your baby’s temperature is going up or down, especially because I always forget the exact reading a few hours later.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersBought to monitor my sons temps while he undergoes chemo so accuracy was very important with his immune system being non-existent. Although there are cheaper alternatives on the market i am happy with the purchase.

This is my 2nd one of these thermometers, they seem accurate and its good that you can select the persons age as different temps mean different things. Its also very helpful to have a red amber or green light indication so i dont need to know what precise temperate is too high etc. I use it a lot with 2 small children, and it was mainly used throughout the pandemic, but probably only changed batteries twice.
My first one did only last 3 years though, so i was disappointed that it didnt have a longer life span.

I originally bought this thermometer for peace of mind. My sister has it for children and had advised me to purchase! It is the best thermometer on the market, we have compared with a few other brands and this is always right with temperatures. It is so easy to use, compact, comes with a great stand and replaceable plastic covers for the earpiece! It has totally ease my anxiety regarding my newborn taking temperatures previous! I would be lost without it, it stays in our changing bag for when we are out and about.

I find this Braun thermometer very accurate compared to older models I’ve used. It gives fast readings and is easy to use on myself or my child. When we had Covid, it was very good to see what’s going on. The color-coded temperature display makes it easy to see if a fever is present. Much better than the old one I had! Definitely recommended.

Used a normal under arm thermometer with my first child. Second child wouldn’t stay still so we invested in this. Wow brilliant, she now loves to have her temperature checked! Super fast and very accurate comparing to the underarm thermometer.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI got used to having my ‘observations’ checked each day whilst in hospital with sepsis and decided to keep an eye on my temperature once I returned home. Helps when talking to doctors or emergency staff on the phone especially if you are suffering from a long-term condition or a heart related emergency. A few degrees can turn a fever into a life and death situation. Hygienic disposable sleeves are useful when dealing with more than one person. An essential part of every First Aid kit.

I have used a few different braun thermometers this one is excellent if you have a baby or 3 and under it’s worth paying more for the more accurate reading. Over 3 just get a normal adult one for cheaper.

As a mum and a nurse I hate seeing my little one unwell, so to have an accurate easy to use thermometer was very important and this fits the bill.
Easy to use even for non medical persons, simple display and the age setting indicates if the temperature is okay.

Great digital thermometer. Iv bought 2 other models from other brands and both inaccurate. This machine is spot on. Also I am an adult and use it on me so it’s not just for kids.
Price is very reasonable too. Don’t hesitate to buy.

Golden Review Award: 18 From Our UsersThere was a period early on in COVID-19 lockdown that it was near enough impossible to buy one of these for a reasonable price. Even Amazon were charging 50+ for them, some unscrupulous third-party sellers were listing them over 100, and people were buying them because they were desperate. You should be looking to buy them at around 40.

It just so happened we needed one during this period, because our baby was sick and we were told we should try monitoring his temperatures. This had nothing to do with COVID, else we’d have just waited.

Thankfully I managed to get one at 38 directly from Amazon, and it does seem to be very good, generally. The accuracy is hard to gauge really. Perhaps it fluctuates slightly due to ear position etc, but I have noticed its readings do vary occasionally.
It has 3 temperature modes for: newborns, 3-36months and 36months+ – This is because temperatures can be more serious at these earlier points so the ‘allowable’ temperature tolerances are lower. It is helpful though that these are suitable from birth.

I chose this style over other thermometers because this is the type all the medical staff seemed to use in the maternity wards. The tip is pre-warmed to try and make it less of a shock when taking your child’s temps, however I still find our son hates having it done, and wriggles everywhere!
It also has a memory feature, which tells you the last 9 stored temperatures. It’s easy to use, though I would like the thermometer to remember/store the last age range entered. It’s a faff having to add same age every time I want to use it.

The case is nice and protects the vulnerable probe side of the device. It also comes with a small box of tips. These are single-use (not ideal) disposable tips that keep the unit hygienic. You get around 20 of these with the unit. You can buy refills via Amazon (I bought the official Braun ones, but there are cheaper imitations if looking to save money). The case allows you to store a box or two of these tips within itself.

The reading only takes around 2 seconds once in the ear and button pressed, which is impressive, especially when trying to take temps of an irate baby! If temperatures are in the normal range for the selected age group, the temperature will be returned with a green backlight. If it is elevated for the age range it’ll be amber, and it’d be advisable to monitor closely any changes. If it is too high, it’ll show a red backlight. I believe if this happens you should speak to a GP about it (especially if children).

This is worth the price in my opinion. There are cheaper alternatives, but I feel that if the Doctor’s, Midwives and Nurses are using them all over the NHS then they must be the better option.
