We were impressed with the overall quality of this scanner, and its speed. Scanning double-sided pages is very fast. However, we didn’t keep it. We use PDF-XChange Editor as our PDF editor of choice and unfortunately the PDFs the scanner created couldn’t be opened with PDF-XChange Editor without errors. I tried many different ways of scanning; direct to a Windows share, locally using the Brother scanning software, but nothing seemed to make any difference. Brother Support also tried to help us, but without a solution. It is worth noting that Adobe Reader and Foxit PDF had no such problems with any of the scanned PDFs, nor did a standalone OCR package. It is possible that PDF-XChange Editor is at fault, but we haven’t had any other issues with any other scanners. We decided that the Brother was not going to work for us and returned it. We have subsequently bought an alternative, which works perfectly with PDF-XChange Editor.
Apart from the problem with PDF-XChange Editor we did like the scanner, it just wasn’t suitable for us.
Glad l did my research. For a small business this device is invaluable and very impressive. Managed to scan an A4 arched levered binder in less than half a day (over 500 double sided documents in colour). At the price point this may not seem like the fastest machine when you look at the pages per minute, however, this becomes irrelevant. What is really important and what really impressed me, was the speed at which the software, converted the images into a PDF over WiFi. I also like the fact that it can be used by multiple PCs and that it is compact (the paper tray can be folded away). It also has a touch screen interface. Well done Brother. 5 Stars.
This scanner does a great job – it is brilliant for archiving and scanning to a desktop PC! The software is pretty good too, works flawlessly even on Windows 11. It has a remove blank pages feature, feeder settings, rotation settings, and a lot of other nice features.
Just be aware this scanner takes paper from the back and captures it bottom up, so you’ll need to put your stack of paper in backwards and upside down for the intended result!
Purchased this item a while ago and as predicted it works … lol what more can I say
The physical scanner bit is great and if you are scanning to a usb no issues.
The scanning software is horrible though and in the end I totally gave up trying to get it to scan direct to PC.
Easy to set up, install and use. Scans both sides at 40ppm and the software collates the pages. It’s been an absolute boon to the office as we need to scan large amounts of paperwork generated by our work. Five Stars!
Extremely robust and fast scanner. Excellent choice for heavy duty.
Works well, very forgiving of poor quality originals, very fast.
However, the set up is somewhat arcane and the ned to download the installation software is merely Brother being ‘cheap’.
Hardware let down by the output tray: had no jams from feeding in but a number from documents catching on previously ejected ones. Have now set it up without the tray extension at the end of the table so the documents drop into a tray I’ve positioned 4 inches below.
Software provided is simple but limited : OK for my purposes where I’m merely digitizing lots of old documents to store away but I wouldn’t be happy if I had to use it for heavy business use.
Reading other reviews there are obviously a lot of people out there who can’t read., or don’t believe in the internet. Note that:
1. The full manual IS easily available on the Brother web site in English.
2. The scanner software CAN DO OCR / produce readable/searchable documents.
3. You DO have the option of creating one multi page document or, one document per sheet, or one per image.

I like the size it is quick and does the job perfectly
Very ample product. does 30ppm in scanning a minute with firmware update. Can take 50pages (scanned 100 pages in duplex mode). Writes to local PC via usb (albeit a little slow if you scanned over 35 pages since the size of file it has to copy over USB to computer), or over the network to a SMB share using a preselected profile from the DEVICE administration interface. Also can scan to USB stick. Jams feeder if the pages are creased, or random paperclips jump into the rollers… But overall a very good product, scanned over 10,000 documents to PDF, and still going strong. Little slow on USB if you are scanning 50 pages (100 pages in duplex). Might take 2 minutes to write to computer over USB, can slow scans down a little, but its accepted.
I got this because apparently I need to keep paper bank statements from 2003 onwards…
I was getting ready for a day full on scanning and was finished before I felt like I’d even started. So then I went on the hunt for more things to scan. I know have a paperless home and lots of empty lever arch files.
Couldn’t recommend it enough.
Love this. Use it at work, got it on network and use off iMac and no issues for last three months, fast scanner and others use as well
We needed a networked scanner for a small office. This was purchased to replace a 15 year old HP Scanjet 5590 which has over the years dealt with tens of thousands of documents. A prime consideration was that we needed an operating system-agnostic scanner, as we have been purely Linux here for many years (apart from a few Windows machines for legacy use, including the 5590 scanner).
The ADS-2700W can be set up entirely via its web interface, which is straightforward to use. We opted to configure to send scans via email as we run our own email server. Shortcut keys allow for programming to email to individual users at preset configurations (we allow for B/W, grayscale or colour).
In use, it’s very impressive. Scanning is very fast, the sheets flying through the feeder, and seconds later arriving as an email.
It would be nice to be able to scan to print, and (at least in a Linux environment) this should be pretty straightforward to set up using inotify(7) and SFTP (which the scanner supports).
Only complaint so far is that the flip-down sheet scanned-sheet catcher is unduly flimsy for an office machine. Even with careful treatment this will not survive more than a few years. The 5590, in contrast, was very robust.
This is a really great device. Nice design, very well built & simple to use, and the scanning speed is unbelievably fast. It’s a little bit bigger than expected is the only negative really. Probably this scanner is more intended for small offices than personal use.
Setting this scanner up was very easy. I had it connected to wifi in under a minute, and within 10 minutes had connected to the cloud and was sending scans directly to DropBox. All of this was done via the touch panel on the scanner itself, which is very simple & intuitive to use. No software had to be installed on a PC at any point (yay!) and it also looks like admin-type tasks can be done via a built-in web interface on the scanner itself, although this hasn’t been needed so far.
Registering dropbox on the device is very simple, via the ‘Brother Web Connect’ portal. The device is authorized in dropbox first of all, then a temporary access code is entered into the scanner to finish the registration. Really simple and a nice UX overall.
What I really like is that documents are OCR’d by the scanner itself, and they go straight to dropbox. No intermediate service is used (that I can determine). It is a little slow to process & upload each scan compared to the scanning speed itself, which is blisteringly fast. The shortcuts that can be setup allow multiple users to share the device and have their scans go to different destinations (DropBox vs Google Drive), and even different folder locations within each service to allow easy organisation of different document types.
We’ve barely started using all of the scanning features but so far we’re very impressed.
I like most people, don’t read instructions until there is a problem. I rather plug in a machine in and hope that what I want to do can be done easily.
In this case it was exactly as I’d hoped. I have been using a flatbed scanner to scan documents to go out to clients. Generally, these range from 40 to 50 pages long and since my old flatbed scanner will not allow me to feed too many pages in it was taking me literally hours to scan and bind the documents.
I can now put a 50-page document come up with writing on both sides of the page through the scanner and the scanner speedily scans and then releases the papers in the order they went in. I must admit I was very surprised to know that the scanner will assess if there is writing on both sides of the page and if so scans both sides.
The scanner was a doddle to setup, but I do not confess to know all of its intrinsic parts and what you can do. I just needed a scanner to save me time and this does just that. I also needed a scanner which I could plug into my computer or into a USB stick. in this case it does use a USB 2 connection and whilst this isn’t the fastest or most convenient it does work well.
All in all, I am happy that the scanner has saved me time and money and I would certainly recommend that machine to anybody who has documents of up to 50 pages to scan. I only use it maybe 2 to three times a week so I can’t say that I’ve overused it. However, it has worked well what is been asked to do.
It is a really fast scanner, the downside is that there is no WiFi..and I did not know about this.
Having spent 40 on scanning at a local facility, this has already paid for tself in the first couple of hours of use. User instructions are not that great so it’s helpful to have some basic knowledge of networking. Thats said the Brother Help Desk is good and with Webchat they can sort things out. The unit is compact and easily stored in a drawer. It’s certainly fast and hasn’t thus far jammed. Quality is excellent and by experimenting with different outputs I’ve found a happy compromise or speed and reproduction. For home use it’s brilliant and I wish I’d bought it before forking out 40.
I bought the Brother ADS-2200 scanner to help organise my paperwork. Since then I have scanned everything, shredding the original paper copies. Life is easier, much much less cluttered and everything is easier to find.
It’s a fast capable up to A4 scanner that does double sided and multiple sheets. Works on USB and network in colour or B&W.
My best scanner I’ve used so far.
Brilliant.
Had a problem with my previous Fujitsu product and wanted a non-Fujitsu replacement. I’ve had other Brother devices in the past and been happy with them so opted for this. Been happy with the product so far.
So we bought this and I could not work out at first why the machine would not run. the instructions seem confused and I was scratching my head once i found the right drivers and soft wear the thing is great but I was surprised at Brothers support which was not very supportive and wanted to charge for the set up advice!
Fantastic desktop scanner, compact and easy to set up. Speedy scanner with duplex scanning which saves me loads of time. Would definitely recommend. I can’t comment on tech support as no need to use it as yet.
Simple to use, and you get a choice of file types in which the document can be saved including ‘pdf’ which is what I needed. I also wanted a scanner where the document self fed – and this one does.
Great scanner but whatever you do don’t print out the user guide when prompted. It’s about 500 pages long!!
Great but had to download other software. Really does 60 double sided per minute but you are slowed by the need to name each scan but how do you get around that? Couldn’t do without it in the office.
This is for the USB only model… It is:
Fast at 24 double sided A4 at 30 seconds when set at 300dpi
The software used on this is the basics and meets all my requirements.
Light, small footprint.
Software downloaded fron web, not supplied with machine.
No USB connector supplied.
After a couple of weeks of use, all the above holds but I still can’t get over the speed. Reduced time spent on this very boring task dramatically.
This is a very capable scanner, which is let down by a poor software and user experience.
One the plus side.
This is an incredibly capable scanner
It has a very small footprint
It is very well built, with a quality solid feel to it
It is whisper quiet in operation
It is fast
It takes 30 page documents without any issues.
On the minus side, is the software, and again I am forced to why instructions are not written in a clearer way.
Website accessed
Software (drivers) downloaded
The software cannot find my scanner
This issue is finally sorted and and it now will not connect to my MAC
So, this review is written based on scanning to a USB drive which in all honesty works very well
I will persevere with the software, but these items should just work, getting new tech should be a joy…
I have had this scanner under test for about two weeks now and it is something of a mixed bag.
The hardware side of it is very good. It is a fairly compact machine and folds up to an even more compact footprint when not in use. The build quality generally feels very solid. The only slight downside is that the feed tray comes as a separate unit which clips on to the back of the machine. This means that it does not fold down (which is a contrast to the Fujitsu scanner in the same price bracket). Scanning works smoothly and the rollers have correctly identified each sheet of paper with no double feeds as yet.
The software side is a disappointment. The basics are OK. The touch screen on this wireless version works well and the receiving software (on a Mac) works adequately too. The disappointing aspect is the more sophisticated aspects. I do a lot of legal work and for that reason it is an enormous advantage to have my scanned documents searchable. I don’t actually want to convert them to text I just want to be able to search the text. The workflow here is cumbersome. Getting the OCR software is not entirely obvious from the documents or the Brother website. It was only because the Amazon product description said that OCR scanning was included that I persevered. But the PageManager software (which is free in this context) does not seem to be integrated into the Brother workflow. So the workflow is scan the document, rename the document and then apply Page Manager OCR to it. I would prefer as with the other scanner mentioned above that the searchable facility just happened as part of the scanning process. In this respect this package is significantly inferior (for my particular needs) to the Fujitsu.
It just does the job it was bought for, no fuss. I found the free software does it’s job. Some reviews criticised the software, but it does what I need without a problem.
This is an amazing scanner. The scanning speed is unbelieavable but the ability to scan directly tp pc email dropbox google drive onedrive makes it a really modern day scanner of the 21st century
Excellent scanner: very easy to set up and extremely fast! Very compact too, so suitable for small offices and homes. Scans double sided as well as single page. With all sorts of paperwork we receive through the post these days, this scanner will definitely make our lives a lot easier. Can scan from desktops, laptops and mobile devices via apps.
