I use the Passport version before but it was 8 years old and discolored so I bought this. Cheaper and works the same, but less convenie
Very good results for generating Capture One calibration ICC profiles. The test card could have been bigger in size. Test image needs to be done at close distance, but smaller size of the card allows to comfortably place it into the carrying bag. Installation of the software on Mac was flawless.
Zawiasy ciko chodz. Przy otwieraniu i skadaniu musz uywa duo siy…. przez to mam wraenie, e obudowa zaraz pknie i si zepsuje.
Computer, Notepad, Handy – alles.. In wenigen Sekunden haste das Profil. Licht ndern, neue Messung, neues Profil – fertig.
After using it per all instructions, I found it accurate. It is a little ‘clicky’ to open and close, but that even have a purpose. I did find that a not easy to find ‘properly calibrated with documentation showing it was calibrated’ Grey card works just as well because it gave exactly the same cor calibration of my camera with lens as this one. The difference is that this one is enclosed, thus shielded from grime and fading, and should last way longer.
Very helpful, finally I will not be worried if the colors are accurate, good product for Light Room users! Thank you!
What do you say about the equipment command that matters most in every photographer’s frame? I used to use the Classic mini, but overall colorCjecker passport photo 2 jr is just an amazing piece of equipment. We’ve all had at least one problem delivering a photo with the real colors they are. Especially when it comes to red roses, let’s say any other sensitive objects. In marketing, every detail is very important, especially a faithful bird of color. ColorChecker allows us to do that.
I’m really not exaggerating when I say that ColorChecker photo 2 is the most important piece of equipment that can always be used everywhere. It’s great made, although the compounds could have been made a little better because sometimes it looks like something’s going to break. It’s just that feeling, and don’t worry. It’ll probably lie down in time. I could write about this by tomorrow, but for last
Let me just say it again: even though it’s an expensive product, I know, it’s worth more than that, because it’il save you a lot of time.
Quite simply, it should be your primary piece of equipment. Thank you Calibrite for a product like this! Great recommendation!
Very useful , I lost my original , it so worth replacing .
An essential piece of kit for anyone serious about their photography
I had held off buying this thinking I could just use the camera profiles in Lightroom. But those profiles are terrible. So I got this and made profiles using both the X-Rite software and Adobe Profile Editor. They were also not very good. Then, after reading about it in a forum, I bought Lumariver Profile Designer for $30. I load the photos of the passport into Lumariver and I’m able to tweak the profile to my liking, and when I say to my liking, I mean to produce the most accurate colors. I have made profiles already for all kinds of lighting scenarios, and they are ready to go when I edit in Lightroom. Also, the white balance patches are accurate and the case closes up tight to protect the patches from the light. Fits in your pocket.
Much handier than the full-sized sheet/card, as it has its own hard plastic protective case and props itself up (tent-like) for photographing. Painfully expensive, though.
My calibrate photo checked passport 2 arrived covered in dust which I think has come from the cardboard packaging as can be seen in my photos. Some of the dust blew off but a lot remained so having checked the manual the advice is to gently brush off any dust, which was fine for the most part but has left my black swatch with a sheen instead of being matt.
This may not matter in practice, however I shouldn’t be opening this kind of kit and finding specks of dust all over a lot of delicate colour swatches.
The case seems to come in for a lot of criticism and I can see why. When you open the colour checker ensure that you press the central leaf firmly into its divot, and then pop the lid for whichever side you need, they are detented which is good but I would say they’re overly stiff and you have to be forceful with it the first few times they’re opened, though this should ease up with use.
That very same stiffness may, as with other reviewers, end up with you putting a finger or thumb on a swatch so be careful.
In terms of performance the calibrite/x-rite colorcheckers have a good reputation, I already own a colorchecker digital sg which I use for colour matching video across multiple cameras which is handled in the davinci resolve studio software by picking out the same 24 colour patches as are present in the colorchecker passport.
Calibrite do sell a colorchecker specifically for this purpose which aligns colour reproduction much more nicely with a vector scope which may be more important if you’re filming professionally, but it’s more expensive, the grey swatch is too small to be reasonably used to set the white balance in camera. I’ve had good results with the sg and I just wanted something more portable that I can throw in a camera bag with the rest of my gear.
The lanyard is a nice touch and includes a quick release should you need to disconnect it for any reason.
It might seem that this is quite a pricey piece of kit for a bunch of coloured squares, but as with anything of this nature you’re paying for colour accuracy and calibration, and I can tell you that if you’re filming multi-cam, especially across different models, being able to get your colours close in post with a minimum of fuss will save you so much time that the colorchecker will soon pay for itself.
There are a lot of reviews (here and YouTube) saying it’s expensive for a piece of plastic. Yes, if all you were buying was a piece of plastic, it would be overpriced. But, you aren’t. You’re buying the plastic as well as the integrated software and support that comes with it. Really, this is a great value and it has saved me countless amount of hours when editing. I shoot a lot of food and products so making sure that colors are exactly how they are in real life is important. Using just a standard white balance card is not enough. I had purchased an $8 white balance card set. Between that $8 and this $100 (roughly) passport, my regret is wasting the $8 in the past.
If you shoot photos of food, products, or anything where correct colors are important, this is a must. Cheaping out and getting anything less won’t give you the easy-to-use plugins for Lr and you’ll still have to spend hours making sure everything is correct. Don’t waste your money elsewhere, just get this and be happy you did.
I’ve recently spent 3 days at a photography studio colour balancing baby clothes shot on pro Nikon DSLRS. The greens were way out and the other colours had a 3 to 7% hue shift. If they would of used an X-Rite colour card they would of saved on my 3 days retouching fee and I could of stayed at home. It’s the best option for perfect colour in and light.
I am color blind. Since getting into digital photography, I thought that using a Whi-bal card would get me correct color. I was wrong. The ColorChecker Passport gives consistently correct color under any light using any camera/lens combination.
caro, indubbiamente.
+ white balance= perfect,
+ colors= perfect.
+ looks good and it is small
– But it is plastic…
– and too expensive.
all in all it gets the job done
This Color checker is just what I meekest and wanted. Nice and compac
O cos o cos
