Bought as a gift which went down really well. Radio controlled watch with solar power and its water proof. Just set your time zone and that’s it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is a smart, tough, everyday watch that never needs adjusting and runs on solar power, with an analogue display that is easy to read at a glance, even for people who need reading glasses. Like most Casios the lume on the hands and markers is pointless but it does have a good back light that illuminates the analogue display throughout the hours of darkness which can be set up to come on at the flick of the wrist or a press of a button.
Size wise it’s the ideal G-Shock for people with smaller wrists but it doesn’t look out of place on larger wrists either. The resin strap is decent enough, although it’s not much different to the sort found on much cheaper Casios however it does have a metal buckle and it conforms to the wrist nicely making it comfortable to wear all day long.
People who need reading glasses will find the digital display windows difficult to read without their specs but that’s par for the course when it comes to most analogue/digital watches, so if that’s you I suggest you don’t rely on this watch for the day/date or the stopwatch, dual time or timer functions without your eye ware. There are analogue/digital display watches out there that do have a large analogue display but they don’t look as good as this G-Shock.
Price wise it varies a lot and it depends on the exact model, I bought my blue face AGW for 88 which I think represents great value for money. It’s worth every penny and more, especially when you consider it’s radio controlled and solar powered which means once you set up your time zone using the digital display it sorts the rest out for you, automatically setting the hands to the correct time without you having to touch the watch ever again and then it continues to adjust the time as required using a signal from the atomic clock in Rugby at 2am every morning. In addition, because it’s solar powered it will do this for years, possibly even decades to come. It’s worth noting that they do have a special battery that may need changing occasionally but I understand this is rare, especially if it’s kept charged up by leaving on a window ledge instead of putting it away in a draw when not being worn.
If you like the look of this watch and want a G-Shock that has a clear analogue display that’s not too obtrusive on the wrist you’re not going to be disappointed.

Every thing is great BUT watch out if you are used to large size G-SHOCK or you don’t like small sized watches or bought it as a gift for someone who prefers large watches. For regular size watch lovers , it checks every box. Keeping the bezel out, the glass diameter is in the 30’s cm

Sets itself and it’s solar powered. Would have preferred a second-hand, the minute hand not to be skeletonized and the luminous paint to be better.
I replaced the rubber strap because I was continually having to take the watch off to dry my wrist each time I washed my hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and sturdy.

My wrist is small but this watch fits nicely and looks good. Came well packaged 2 days before due date. All functions seem to be working well. I find dark on light display is easier to read than light on dark (which some models of this watch have). Solar powered battery charge was medium on delivery but went to high after one day and has stayed there even with the auto light function switched on. Receives radio time signal at night. Slightly fiddley to set alarms but will get used to it. Paid a little more than I had budgeted for but am very pleased with the purchase.

Cant vouch for water resistance as havent tried it. I love this watch had it 2 weeks now and still keep just looking at it hands up illumination is spot on compared to some smart watches, which ive now stopped using to wear this. keeps well charged thanks to the radio transmitted time keeping it’s always spot on I just wish the little hour hand which is red was white this would make it a lot easier to see when lights not great, my eyes ain’t so good now, would definitely recommend this watch.

Golden Review Award: 7 From Our UsersHappy with this watch.
It’s much prettier in real life than the pictures show, and I smile when I look at it. I love how the hands glow after it’s been in daylight, nice touch. There’s even a subtle little sparkle to it.
It’s easy to set up, and with the link to the world’s atomic clocks, it is 100% accurate, 100% of the time. Set and forget.
The battery is always on High, never seems to run down, even in the dark and dismal north of England, charging from both natural and (thankfully) artificial light.
But… those dials… Eesh! They are a complete waste of time (great pun! Thank you, I’m here all week…). You can only read them when it’s bright, very bright. And only at the right angle. Otherwise they just look like 3 black circles. And as others have pointed out, the backlight doesn’t show them either. If I forget the date I take out my phone – that’s easier than trying to read these watch dials.
The other annoyance is that you can’t change the date format, and it’s stuck in the nonsensical American format of month then day. It’s a stupid format, that only one country in the whole world uses, and it’s annoying that I can’t change it to the more sensible format that the rest of us are used to.
Other than that though it’s a good watch. It’s been submerged, covered in dirt, dropped and banged about more than it should have, without even a blemish. It’s definitely solid!
And it is a great size for my skinny little wrists (7 inch circumference).
Overall I’m happy, and this will be my watch for the next decade!

Good looking, durable, but not easy to read

My new G-SHOCK looking good the first one I had to send back with a button fault, returned one day replaced the next very good Amazon for that very prompt response, could not fault that at all. The replacement now being worn looks very good needed to go on line to check the way forward as the instructions are so hard to read due to very small print, found help on line once set up the unit is now fine hope to get many years out of it, still on a learning curve, but at 85 years old I am a little slower now but the brain works.

Is a really nice watch. Looks amazing.
I have other G-shock watches and by far, the way is done, is the best looking one.
However, I have really big hands and the watch is slightly smaller than the other G-shock watches that i have.
So I had to return it, as it was looking a little bit silly on my wrist.
However, I’m usually really big compared to other people. So this will look good on most normal humans. :p

The ruggedness, the radio-controlled accuracy, the auto-charging solar, the water resistance, the small form factor and the low cost makes this a perfect workhorse of a wristwatch. The downside is a poor legibility of the three small inverted displays and the markings around them, and the 1980’s philosophy of switching between functions via 4 pushers. The fluorescent marking on the hands is not the greatest and the back-light is non-existent (due to the face being a solar panel).

Lovely g shock quite small compared to a lot in the g shock range, which I like, my wrist is 7 inches for reference. This being radio controlled means its spot on accurate & the solar means you should get a lifetime out of this tough little watch. The niggles for me are the digital display can be a little hard to see for my eyes but the analog display is easy to read & the strap is not the softest for a g shock, but it’s a lovely watch that I wear when I want a change from my g shock full digitals & the analog face looks nice with a suit, I think it looks quite smart but not to dressy. All the functions work well & It’s a great looking watch that I’m very pleased to have in my collection. This could easily be the only watch you’d ever need.

There a dozen of good reviews already about this watch so I wont go on about how good it is… because it is a great watch and I would recommend it.
my only gripe is the hour hand is difficult to see at night with the internal light (please bear in mind my eyesight is not great, I need 1.5 reading glasses, time will tell if this improves as I get used to it. that all said I will be keeping this watch and it will never leave my wrist again, I hope. one thing I did forget to mention was the dial face was black/blue not as shown not a major issue but please if you are going to advertise with a picture get it right.

This is the third Gshock watch I have purchased. This is to replace an identical one I put on top of my car to charge in the sun and then drove away!! I have a different model I use for work and it has survived three months of an unforgiving environment.
The best features of this watch are the time control and toughness. The solar charging is beneficial but only time will tell if the cost benefits of not having to replace a battery is worth the additional cost. As always with Casio watches the weak link in the chain is going to be the strap. All the plastic Casio watches I have owned in the past have had the strap fail long before the new battery was required. Again only time will tell if the G shock watches have a more durable strap.

I am an admirer of Casio’s G-Shock watches which are what I would call of a sensible size and not the ones which I consider to be ridiculously large. I chose this watch because of the already impressive reviews and as I believe it looks elegant and due to the precision radio-controlled time-keeping.

I set the watch up with relative ease thanks mainly to online videos and I have not been at all disappointed with it. It looks extremely smart and has a host of functions such as world time, stopwatch, timer, five daily alarms, hourly signal and what I feel is a more than adequate backlight. I ordered from Amazon and it arrived a couple of days later. All in all it’s a superb watch which I would thoroughly recommend.

Lighter than I expected. You do need to read the instructions carefully to set it up fully. The only downside is that the back light for seeing the dials in the dark is pretty useless as you can’t see the hands properly. Love the fact that I do not need to change the battery as solar charged and that I don’t need to set the time after the 1st sync.

  18. AJRShannauy says:

This smart watch comes well packed in the G Shock tin, protected in a outer box. The instruction book is very thick, but TINY. As noted by other customers, go to the Casio site and download the guidance. It is muck easier to read on screen as you can zoom in the increase the text size. The watch itself has. Very subtle blue face, so subtle in fact, it is difficult to tell the difference between the blue or black faced model. I would go for the cheapest.

This model has both analog hands, and three LCD sub-dials. They are quite clear, but rather small. The initial setup (the instructions say this is most important) is a little confusing, but stick with it, the time zone setting, and initial connection to the atomic clock is soon completed.

I really like this watch. It is good looking, and seems very tough. The hands and markers are luminous, but as the watch is fresh out of the box, I don’t know how long the ‘lume’ will last. It also has an auto LED to light up the facia – this can also be lit by pressing a button. Lastly, I got this watch for an amazing price on the Amazon Warehouse. It was half the price! The mark on the strap was invisable, and the instructions, tags and guarantees look pristine. An all round bargain.

Would have gave it five stars but came home today and it’s gained an hour. Had to go through and set it manually and then switch to auto mode. Thought is was meant to be radio conrolled.
Rant over the watch is beautiful and the dark blue bezel is subtle. Not sure if it will withstand a pounding if you were gonna wear it as a work watch as the paint will probably come off. The rest of the watch will last.
Nice sized watch and not to tall on the wrist. Can be worn with a shirt or t shirt. Not as hardcore as the bigger G shocks. I bought this for just that purpose. I have a GD100 for work, a bezel less DW6800 from the mid nineties that suffered bezel rot and a 2000 G2400 from Germany with some funky digit display.
It comes fully charged and at the right time. Just leave it in daylight when you are not wearing to top it up, will have to keep my eye on the time keep adjusting itself as it could become irritating. Good lumen on the digits and an orangey backlight which is adjustable.
A lot of people moan about the reverse lcd displays and I agree, they are all pants. I had an olive GR7900 with reverse display. A lovely watch but sold it because I could not see it in poor light.
Left bezel did show date, but now time and don’t know how to get it back, middle is seconds and power bar at the bottom segment with low/med and high. The day is on the right. Don’t care for any of them to be honest, which is why I went for the reverse display. If these are important to you then go for the silver outer bezel with the navy face. Lovely watch with a few niggles that I will have to get my head around, hence only 4 stars.

Update as of tonight, I have read the manual online for the module as couldn’t be bothered with the inch thick version and have set the watch up properly and now all is good so I have changed the watch back to five stars

    Great little watch

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI initially bought this watch from Bulgaria half a year ago, but unfortunately, I lost it in England. Looked for a substitute, preferably cheaper… There were none to my taste. I bought the same watch for the second time. That’s how good it is. The stylish dark-grey look and the honeycomb pattern on the watch face are amazing. It is not among the bigger G-Shock watches, this has a smaller form factor, which is perfect for a guy with… average hands. The radio timekeeping and the solar power are very cool additions. If only the digital part was a bit bigger, because at times it is a bit hard to tell the time digitally, but you get used to it. 9/10

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersHave had this watch for 6 months. I am very impressed with this g shock. I wear it to work and in the garden. It gets shocked regularly and still looks new ( after a clean). It receives the radio signal every night and keeps perfect time and, yes, even when the clocks went back. It also automatically adjusts to the correct date. So you never have to change the battery or adjust the Time or date. I haven’t travelled so can’t verify if it adjust’s automatically abroad. You can view the current time in many different cities in the digital displays. I wear this watch every day, it is light and comfortable, sometimes I forget it is on my wrist. Love this watch.

An update on this review. I have had this watch 2 years now and it has lived up to its reputation. I wear it everyday at work. I wear it in the garden planting and digging. I wore it while operating a knago hammer digging out concrete patio slabs. I wore it painting. The watch functions perfectly still. Any dirt, paint and oils just wash off. The glass is still like new no scratches or even slight blemishes. Really pleased with this watch.

When I read the reviews I was aware that the face of the watch was small, but assumed that in comparison to the chunkier G-Shocks it would still be a reasonable size. It’s not,’it’s very small and fine for either a child or woman but if you have an average sized wrist for a man it probably isn’t right for you. In terms of the watch itself it is a cracking watch and it is just a shame that it’s so small…needless to say my partner has a brand new G-Shock watch.

Had the grade down from this one and it lasted longer than the advertised 10 years (11 years 3 months and still going) plus it wasn’t a solar charging modal yet hasn’t once needed a battery change or service so they do have impressive build quality.
This one looks more modern and apart from the solar charging it also has a lot more features yet it is the same size and has the same sturdy feel about it.
I thought he watch face looked slightly bigger in the pictures than its actual size but it’s the same as my old watch and if you are choosing a watch to withstand a beating then a slightly smaller face means it’s less likely to catch on things so for me this is a positive as it still looks chunky and solid.
The instructions could be a little clearer but a quick search on YouTube will bring up tutorials for almost every function as this is a popular model with a trusted brand.
Great watch and if it last as well as its predecessor it will be an affordable quality buy.

Golden Review Award: 39 From Our UsersI was attracted to this watch mainly by the clarity of its analogue display. The white coloured hour and minutes hands show up well against the blue face. The blue of the face is not a ‘bling’ blue, but a subtle one which, depending on the angle of observation, sometimes appears black. The hour, minute and second markings are all likewise crisp and clear and their fluorescent finish is excellent, even showing up in poor lighting condition well short of complete darkness. The second markings do seem somewhat superfluous as there is no sweep second hand. They add, however, to the overall general aesthetic appearance and have an enhancing effect. Three small circular faces set within the main face show day, date and seconds in digital form. Although these faces are quite small, the resolution of the digital display is extremely high making them easy to read for most people. For example, I need reading glasses with strength +1.50 lenses and can make out the displays without needing them. Other major factors influencing my decision to buy were the fact that, being solar powered, you do not need to bother with battery replacement, while the radio controlled feature pretty much ensures daily accuracy. The watch shipped attractively and very securely packaged to avoid transit damage and was working when removed from the box. Using the small, multi-lingual instruction manual (glasses definitely required), changing the setting to BST was simple, but I noticed that the watch was running about 5 seconds fast against my control models. While it did not pick up a radio signal during the remainder of the day to correct this, it did so overnight and the time now being displayed is spot on to the exact second. This was confirmed with a small RCVD message appearing above the digital day display. The watch has the chunky appearance you expect from a Casio G-Shock model, but the face is not as large as some in the range and could be described as medium. A lot of thought has gone into the design of the attached strap. It is very comfortable and looks sturdy. It is very versatile and will fit most wrists measuring between 6 and a half and 9 and a half inches. It is secured by a nicely made buckle which looks like it has been run over and squashed flat by a tank. Its squat finish should prevent both damage to clothing and it being caught up in most protrusions you encounter. Even the moveable toggle designed to hold the superfluous strap end and stop it flapping about on your wrist is extremely efficient. It does not repeatedly slip off the end, but is held in place by small, built-in slots on the strap. As you move the toggle you can actually hear it click into each slot. Of the wide range of time keeping options offered on the watch, I will probably only make occasional us of one of the alarm features, but it is nice to have them. Given its overall attractive appearance, its time-keeping capabilities, its size and the versatility of the strap, it could well equally appeal to both sexes. It is great value for money and really has to be a bargain at the price.

Having wrists best classified as ‘scrawny,’ all the normal G-Shock watches are non starters for me, unless I really want to rock the ‘plonker’ look. This one fits really well, and with the navy blue dial and grey windows looks great. Looked even better when I took a black felt tip to the white text top and bottom of the bezel. Previous owners have complained about the small windows being hard to read, I suspect that they are taking about the negative LCD version. Certainly, in pictures they just look like three black dots. I have no problem with mine, in spite of poor eyesight.

So, a very tough, comfortable, smart looking solar/radio watch at an excellent price – why only four stars? Two of the extra features are a countdown timer and 5 alarms but these are rendered pointless due to the faint distant tinkling sound generated. I’ve set up the timer to check on my tea, but have to rely on sight alone. Given the prompt of the 00.00 reading, with a bit of straining I can hear a gentle background chiming but honestly Casio, you must be able to do better than this. Also, the timer only goes up to 100 minutes – prefer to have long enough to track an average parking session.

I like the watch and will keep it as my everyday ‘grunt’ one, the problems above prevent me from loving it as a genuine all-rounder.

Lovely watch nice size not big but well sized unusual in the fact that it doesn’t have a second hand. The three digital windows displays show day date and seconds. Setting the watch is not complated but there is a fair bit to do. I have to admit that i have downloaded a copy of the manual and am keeping it on my tablet to keep it handy for travel to other countries as the manual is quite small and hard to read. However the fact that a watch that changes automatically and will not need a battery and waterproof to a good depth which suits me as I body board, SUP and kayak and don’t need to worry about it.

I’ve now had this watch for over 6 months, It is my first g-shock and I’m very happy with the purchase. The lume is excellent and crystal clear in the dark relative to the couple of Timex watches I’ve own in the past. My only reason for not giving a 5 star was the backlight sits above the dial in a way which does not show you the digital display, therefore you can only see the analogue time in the dark. The time keeping has been excellent and as I travel a fair amount the switching time zones has been relatively straight forward with the smooth functionality of the watch. I have used it fairly ruggedly with windsurfing/scuba diving and had no problems. It comes with a manual about an inch thick so I’m still learning about various features the watch offers. I would highly recommend this watch to anyone looking for something cool and functional for at a very good price.

Just to add onto initial r/v, now had watch for 3 yrs, it still works like the day I got it, still has the original strap, I’ve taken it up to everest base camp and done triathlons with it. The only negative I can find with it is the light only illuminates the watch face and not the digital display so you can only read the analogue time in the dark. You can’t set a timer or the alarm in the dark unless you have an external light source. The lume is otherwise fantastic. still highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 15 From Our UsersI decided to buy a watch that never needs replacing.

This watch not only doesn’t need the battery changing (which is a big issue for me), but with radio controlled time adjustment its never wrong either.

Pack all that into a G-Shock watch and you have an almost indestructible watch that will tell you the right time forever.

You get an alarm, stopwatch, you get to know time zones all over the place that we all know no body uses, and there is a little light, that allows you to read the analogue time, although it doesn’t light up the little digital display.

I for one have been very impressed, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who is considering one.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPersonally I think this is the best looking Casio G Shock on the market and one of the least bulky. Keeps great time and is self maintaining for time accuracy and battery with the great solar powered face. A lot is made of the poor LED light for reading watch face in dark. It is fine for reading the hands and presumably efficient for the fact the watch is solar charged – not a problem. Digital readouts are small but beautifully laid out to provide a great looking watch face. I like the silver bezel with red hour hand and think this provides the best looking colour combo of the range. Being waterproof means I can clean it under the tap with confidence. I only wish Casio would turn out the same watch with health activity tracker on board for step counting etc. then I would wear it in bed and in the shower… but I will live…

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersI bought this as a tough watch to wear when I don’t want to damage one of my other watches and I chose an analog & digital display for legibility. While the analog time is easy to read in any light and the sub-dials are very clear in good light, when illuminated I can not make out the sub-dial readings at all. Perhaps a purely digital display would be better.

The size of the watch head is about right for my seven-and-three-quarter inch wrist, even though I usually wear 38mm and 40mm watches. This watch is very light and the supplied strap is comfortable, although I have since added adaptors and changed it for a ‘NATO’ type nylon strap.

The Multiband 6 radio receiver synchronises the time at 02:03 each morning, even without following the advice to place the watch near a window , and accuracy is spot on when checked throughout the day.

Overall I am pleased with this watch and I feel that it will be very durable but, if the illumination also worked for the sub-dials, it could be a better product.

    Poor illumination of sub-dials.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersLovely watch, my first G Shock. Took a bit of a chance ordering it online as I hadn’t seen it “in person” before it arrived. I have to say I’m very pleased, not too big at all on my slightly smaller than average wrist.

Great features for under 100 quid! Love that it is solar powered and also the radio-controlled timekeeping; personally these were the top two features that I wanted. Being tough (like any G-Shock) and water-resistant to 20 bar were important to me too.

I’m not sure I’ll really use features like the World Time or Countdown all that much, if at all. And I imagine the stopwatch and alarm functions will only get occasional use from me.

The watch is surprisingly light, noticeably lighter than the Citizen Dive Watch (analogue) that I had been wearing up until recently.
Overall I’m very pleased with this G-Shock. I could imagine considering another (with more advanced features) model in a few years time perhaps….

Tip: the manual that comes with the watch is very small and “chunky”, in order to fit in the tin with the watch. Google the model of your watch and you can download a PDF of the manual to read through more easily.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersThis is my first G Shock and I was concerned about the potential size of the watch as many of the G Shocks are quite big and I generally prefer a 38 – 42 mm watch. I was pleasantly surprised that this sits well on my 7.0 Inch wrists and looks well, as I am a big fan of the blacked out look. I am generally into mechanical watches but the technology in this watch is amazing. This watch charges itself using light , sets the correct time from the atomic clock signals and even turns on the watch light automatically when it is dark and all for a very reasonable price. Some people may find the dark digital displays hard to read in some light conditions but the digital information is secondary, as the analog hands are always easy to read so this is not a problem for me. The blacked out look makes this watch look very smart as the branding is quite subtle. I am really impressed with this watch and would recommend it to someone who wants a watch they can wear and forget , as you will never need to change the batteries or set the time, it is also quite versatile watch and you could wear it in many situations unlike many G Shocks which are pure sport watches. . It also makes a great addition to a watch collection as once charged is always ready to go.

I’m very pleased with this G Shock watch for several reasons. It’s analogue display is extremely legible, it’s comfortable and light to wear, it has date, day and month function, no batteries required due to the solar charger, no clock adjustment due to the radio system and its waterproof and nigh on indestructible. Apart from these features which were important to me it is aesthetically pleasing. All the stuff said on other reviews about the three small discs are true. You need a very strong light to read the information. You certainly will not see them in night time conditions. But that does not affect me since I don’t use the timers or alarms. A very cool feature is the auto light function. The watch must include a light sensor and a tilt switch to achieve this. In low light you can tilt the watch toward you and it lights up the face.

All in all, I’m am very pleased with it; it does depend on the spec that you are looking for.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersLove it; it’s a smart but casual watch that I bought for day-to-day use (including sport) so I’m not risking damage to my Tag Heuer, and it fits the bill – and my wrist – perfectly. Having relatively small wrists I’m conscious not to look like I’m wearing a clock on my arm, and I’m pleased to find this is chunky without being ridiculously large.

I was wondering how solar powered would get on in cloudy Manchester but thankfully no issue! The radio signal automatically updates the watch so it’s always bang on atomic time.

I don’t use the other features/modes so much as I tend to use my smartphone these days for timer, alarms, and stopwatch – but it’s good to know they’re there if I need them. The World Time mode however is a really cool and useful mode, and as well as having WT displayed digitally while the analog shows home time, you can also swap them by pressing the top two buttons simultaneously.

The minor downside is low light visibility. The inverted LCD displays (i.e. white on black) are not the easiest to read anyway; and pretty much impossible to read in low light. The white analogue hands can be seen quite well in low light but in the dark, the luminescent paint is limited to the tips of the hands (and fades very quickly). There is an LED which lights up from the bottom enough to see the analog hands but not the LCD (and it is not backlit). The Light is an amber colour (much like last-generation streetlamps).

All in all, I love the watch and I’ve no complaints; it would only lose half a star (reluctantly) because the light could feasibly be better. It’s perfect for my needs and it’s a pleasure to have a Casio again after all these years.

Its true what most people have said about this watch about the poor light and difficulty viewing the digital areas on the face but on the whole this is a fantastic watch, it looks fabulous and its a Casio so simple to use. The auto time update feature seems to work fine for me although sometimes it can take a couple of days to sync up down to poor signal area where I live but in other locations it works super. I have a few cheaper Casio digital watches and they all are slightly different in time accuracy over a week or so, this one is perfect for the price and features and the time is always spot on.

The battery on my old watch expired, again. The shop reckoned it’ll be 200 to replace, as it needed a full service. Ridiculous, said I. I could buy a new watch for half that price. So, with challenge laid down, I surfed Amazon and purchased the G Shock.

    Pros:
    – Dispatch and delivery was nearly simultaneous. I have no idea how Amazin do it so fast (witchcraft?);
    – packaging excellent, and massively detailed instructions, which are also available as a PDF from company website;
    – despite being in package (and therefore devoid of sunlight), the watch still had medium battery power remaining and set-up and auto-time adjustment was quick and painfree (basically, leave it on windowsill over night, and hey presto, it’s set to the correct time; Simples);
    – with a month of minimal sunlight (short grey days), it hasn’t dipped below medium battery power and, after one hour outside, it even tipped briefly into “high”. Remarkable bit of kit, really!

    Cons:
    – small dials can be difficult to read in low light. But, hey, I can normally remember what day of the week it is anyway!
    – the mm/dd configuration is annoying (with seemingly no way to adjust it to dd/mm), but you do get used to it.

I spent a lot of time looking for something robust, waterproof and inexpensive to use whilst I am out fishing, mainly in the boat. Nothing too flash needed, I just want something that’ll tell me what time it is and survive getting wet, plus the odd knock… I was tempted by a Luminox as I really like the look of the Navy Seal (not so sure they would wear these watches?!) black/white colormark verions, but after seeing so many negative reviews, started to be drawn towards a G Shock. My only problem was the size of them, as I don’t have huge wrists, a big watch would look out of place on me. Then I came across this G Shock – at first I didn’t even notice the price, as I wasn’t being driven by cost… anyway, it’s just perfect, not too big, not too small. Very comfortable to wear and looks great in all black with silver dials. I own a TAG and an Omega; this G Shock is 1/20th the price I paid for my Seamaster, yet it does pretty much the same job! My only gripe would be the dreadful instructions, resolved by going online and watching a tutorial on YouTube. The three small displays, I can barely see them, but I knew that would be the case from reading other reviews and I only want to know the time anyway. A few folk are moaning the light function is useless, I beg to differ, as it does illuminate the face of the watch in the dark long enough to see the watch hands, albeit you’ll need very good eyesight to see anything else on the watch face.

If you’re after something a bit smaller than the average G Shock that’s robust, functional and discreet, without spending much money, this is a very good watch. Highly recommended!

I am very happy with this watch and would definitely recommend. In my opinion it looks great, It is very light to wear and is a good size (not ridiculously big like some high end g-shock watches). The main dial is very easy to read even in the dark and the time is updated automatically every night via radio signal. The small digital displays are a bit hard to read in poor lighting and impossible to read in the dark using it’s inbuilt yellow LED light, but I still like them better than the more traditional dials. The alarm is not really loud enough, I doubt it would wake anybody up in the morning and it stops ringing after about a minute. It’s solar powered and has a battery level indicator which is another nice feature to have on a watch, and the battery life seems to be very good as the watch is almost constantly fully charged.

SMALL/MEDIUM WRISTS – BUY THIS WATCH!

This watch was delivered to me an hour ago. I’m normally a bit lazy with reviews but I’m that impressed I need to give a quick review right away. This watch has a lot of reviews, so I’ll stick to some specifics which I either disagree with or I feel are missing in other reviews.

I’ve read a few negative reviews on the LED light so tested this right away by locking myself under the stairs. I’m really impressed! Yes it isn’t an EL light, and yes it doesn’t light up the digital dials, but its very effective at lighting the face, and as it throws from the bottom it gives a really cool shadow effect on the face. Down to taste, but I love it.

Those digital dials: complaints about readability – not from me. Perfectly clear and readable in a relatively normal range of light.

Some reviews say its difficult to set, and the manual is difficult to understand. I’d set all the time and automatic features I want to use within 15 minutes of opening the box.

Finally for those that care, Japanese mechanicals, cased in China. Feels quality.

I’ll report back with more info once I’ve owned the watch for a while, but that last thing I want to leave this review with is that the watch is a seriously classy and understated G-shock, that I can wear for anything from out on my bike, running with the dog, to work in the office or on a night out. I’d only just about not wear it for a black tie event!

Got this as a watch to wear day to day as I am a clumsy oaf and this is one tough cookie resistant to knocks, scuffs and scrapes that were beginning to make my old (non G-Shock) Casio look very second-hand. I like the stealth look of it. But not a watch for all seasons and I will still wear one of my other watches as and when: Dress watch for going out; Sports watch for running; and my other digital display, tough G-Shock for work which involves manual clattering about and being able to easily read the time to the second.

As others have pointed out reading the small digital displays needs care and for the light to fall right but I prefer this than for them be too prominent which makes the face look so cluttered on other watches with similar design. I too wish Casio had kept the dd/mm format option but I avoid this annoying me by usually having that small digital display show the time in 24 hour mode instead and just toggling between the two as needed.

I bought this watch to replace a 10 year old G shock where the strap had started to break away around the watch face.

It has a few more features than the old one:- the radio-control timekeeping works well, and the solar power will hopefully avoid the need to replace batteries every 5 or so years. It also has a feature to swap current time with the selected world time which will be useful for travelers. The hands seem much more automated than my old watch in that they automatically adjust to the set digital time, you can also set them to move out of the way of the small dials when setting alarms etc.

2 minor issues:- as others have noted the light does not do a particularly good job of illuminating the display, nowhere near as good as the electroluminescence of my old one (but maybe that is not possible with a solar collector face), and the watch features themselves are very dark – it is only possible to see the detail shown on photographs under good light. Brighter markings for the numerals and minute symbols would have been better.

Upon opening the box,I was surprised at the small face on this watch. As an avid watch collector and owning quite a few G Shocks, this one is the smallest. The black lugs on each side do give the watch some width, but if you are wasting the usual big face that G Shocks are famous for, then this one is not for you.Yes it is a solid piece of kit, fairly easy to read albeit the info contained in the three circles is difficult to see in low light.I am keeping it though mainly because it is solar powered and a wave cepter model.Worn it a few hours now and am getting used to the size.i may add it does feel quite comfy on the wrist.

  43. GlindaFindley says:

I also have a G2900 G shock, which is digital and does the job but looks a bit toy-like and is battery powered.

I got this because it has the same 200m water proofing and shock resistance, but is also analogue and more stylish/mature looking (occasionally I would forget to remove the 2900 model after mountain biking and end up going to work with a plastic digital on my wrist) and the other additional benefits are that it is solar powered, so should never need to crack open the back and ruin the water proofing. Additionally, the watch automatically calibrates itself via the signals from atomic clocks.
The only negative aspect is the grey-on-black digital display is a bit hard to read in some lights and would not suit anyone with ageing eyes – though there is a similar model but with black on white digital display available.
I like it, my brother likes/would wear it and the guy at work who sits opposite me also likes/would wear it , so that’s 3 positive reactions out of the 3 people who have seen it.

I really like this watch, I never take it off. It’s rugged but not heavy, I have skinny wrists and it doesn’t look oversized. I use the alarm to wake me up in the morning and despite being quite a heavy sleeper I’ve never slept through it. I discovered the other day that you can still hear the alarm if the watch is submerged. I recently took it across Europe and I had no issues with it updating my time zone and connecting everyday. The glass is very scratch resistant, I’ve looked down at it lots of times, heart in mouth after scraping it on something only to find that it’s still spotless.

The only very minor downside is that the light on it doesn’t illuminate the 3 digital displays, however I can’t think why you would need to be reading them in the dark anyway. The hands and number marks glow in the dark well too so the light isn’t necessary really.

I thoroughly recommend this watch to anyone. It looks good, it has good functionality and it’s tough.

I was pleased to find that the watch was all that I expected. It was not too large and heavy that was one of my worries but I do have one small issue with it, and it was reported by others on the reviews that I read before purchasing – the alarm sound is not very loud , particularly in comparison to my other Casio watches. I must say that I am surprised that given the feedback by other customers that Casio have not done anything to sort this out given that the model is now several years old. Only had it a few days so far but looking forward to getting accustomed to it.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis is very similar to the previous G-Shock (AW590) that it replaces, but with a simpler dial arrangement and the addition of Tough Solar, Waveceptor technology and movable hands. After all, I really liked my old watch, so why change ? I have less than perfect eyesight so having big, clear hands is essential for those times when I don’t have my specs on.

So far nothing bad to report, delivery from Amazon supplier was very quick and hassle free. Great price too.

Despite the guff in the instructions about preparing for time signal update (place on window sill facing outwards at the stroke of midnight on any tuesday with a full moon etc) it just did it while I was sleeping and still wearing the watch, which is more or less what I expected. It has updated each morning without issue.

The “battery” seems good, according to the last waveceptor update it had been in it’s metal box for 2.1/2 months and was still reading medium charge. Now fully charged and holding up well, apparently should last 6 months between charges if needed. I can’t see myself moving to Antarctica but it’s good to know.

As per normal with Casio the instructions are a nightmare to read, I suggest downloading a digital copy from the Casio website so you can expand it on your screen. Once you do that they are OK.

I know people moan about not being able to see the digital readouts in the dark, but come on – how often do you really need a stopwatch in your sleep. The light is excellent for viewing the hands, which I think is all you need at night. I like the orange colour. I don’t use the auto led at the moment, but I have in the past and it works fine.

In terms of reliability I can only go by my previous AW590 which went through two batteries and a replacement band and is still working perfectly and waterproof, although the rubber finish is now looking shiny and worn, the band is cracking and the bezel has a few marks where it has been bashed. I have never had any problems with fogging, but then I wear mine all the time which helps to keep a constant temperature.

I can see this is going to be the new favourite.

Easy to set up this watch, very easy to read the time, only two things let it down. The hands are easy to see in most lights but the light is poor mostly because the watch is dark and the light is a dark yellow, I think a clear light would have been better. Also The light does not light up the small round dials which is not good because the choice of colour used for the digital dials is a grey colour with a black back ground and is difficult to read in normal light. I wear glasses for reading only and struggle to read the small dials in normal light. Other than these problems, it is a very good watch.

This is my first g shock and had it for a few days and I’m very impressed with it. the quality seems excellent, all the functions work perfectly and the instruction manual is very easy to read and understand. The digital dials are very easy to read and the light is very good, you can see the time with it and that’s all you need in the dark. The watch is a perfect size and not too large like some other g shocks. It looks really smart and can be a casual watch or a smart watch. The watch alarm function is good and is loud enough to wake you, don’t know why some other reviews don’t think it’s loud enough. Overall very happy with it and haven’t found any bad points yet. Also great price on amazon and had delivery three days earlier than they estimated, excellent service.

Its a great watch, one of the killer features is if you hold your hand up to see the watch it automatically turn on the inner light to illuminate the hands. But this is a small watch – and not just when compared to other G-Shocks. Its small, was rather disappointed by that. Otherwise it is an excellent watch, looks good. Its blacked out so avoids some of the gaudy aspects of the G-Shock typeface, but it makes it difficult to see the three digital dials in the dark (even the light doesn’t illuminate the digital screens).

Was looking for a general everyday watch that was not too fancy but practical.

This watch fits the job perfectly, only comment to make is about the small reverse LCD dials that are difficult to read.
However bought this because the face is clear, its solar and radio controlled so it looks after itself pretty much, and does exactly what I was looking for.

I also have a habit of breaking watches, blunt trauma or drowning is the usual fate for my everyday watch, G shock has a good reputation for surviving this sort of thing, so we shall see.

As long as your not looking for a watch with a million functions this is ideal as it does what any watch should do which is tell the time.

And the price is really good too….

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI write this review having owned this watch for just over a year now. I cannot stress how good a watch this is… It’s been dunked in sea water several times, come swimming with me, had lab chemicals spilled on it, been chewed by a puppy etc etc etc… And it still looks exactly like the day it arrived. Battery is still reporting a high charge level, so the solar bit obviously works. It updates it’s time most nights with casios multi band tower so the time is always right. It even did this while I was travelling in East Asia. Speaking of which, it’s great for travelling, you just set the country/capital your in and it alters the time (taking into account daylight savings etc). The watch face even lights up in the dark when you move your wrist to check the time! My only criticism is that you can’t read the digital screens in the dark, even with the backlight on. Not a deal breaker for me, or for most people I imagine but that would be the only negative I can think of. Overall 5*

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersMy earlier G-Shock is from 2004 and there’s still nothing wrong with it, except that that too-sporty look prevents me from using it at work. I originally bought it for my 12-month military service, since I didn’t want to use my more expensive watch, but I came to love it and after the service I’ve used it more than my other, “better” watch.

Despite having very high expectations for the new watch, it still managed to surprise me positively. It looks so brilliant, that I can wear it anywhere, be it at work, with a suit, or just running or exercising at the gym. It never looks out of place. Being solar-powered, I’ll never have to replace the battery and with the automatic illumination with a turn of my wrist it is brilliant! It even has the radio-controlled time, which unfortunately isn’t much use for me, living in Finland. But since I travel a lot, I’m looking forward to seeing if it can discover the correct local time with a push of a button.

All in all, it looks good, feels good and works perfectly in all situations and can take hits without problems. If only I could give more stars than five, I would definitely do so. d;)

we had seen this on the high street but it was way out of the price we wanted to pay as a watch for out nearly 13 year old son, He really wanted a watch. and loved the modern and robust design of Casio G- Shock. Having read all the other reviews this should last for many years to come, and being solar powered and not having to remove the back to change a battery in the future should mean it stays waterproof for swimming on holiday and diving too ( he went diving this year and loved it)….it’s a surprise , and since we couldn’t afford the one on the high street I know this will be a winner. It looks sporty but more classy than some of the others in this range. Lovely watch for older boys / men alike.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersThe Casio AWG M100A-AER is in many ways the ultimate watch: solar powered, radio controlled, water resistant to 200 metres (static pressure) and shock resistant. Theoretically therefore this is a watch whose battery will never need to be replaced, that you will never need to set or even take off.

The watch always tells the correct time (provided you are in signal range, which so far as I can tell covers most of the northern hemisphere) and auto-adjusts for daylight saving time. It does NOT auto-adjust for time zone changes (you need a GPS watch for that, e.g. the significantly more expensive SEIKO ASTRON Water resistant for daily use dial sapphire glass super clear coating titanium white black bright radio-corrected GPS satellite solar Men’s watch SAST007 [Japan import ]) but you can very easily swap any time zone for the current time with the simultaneous press of the top two buttons.

The solar power unit charges easily – I don’t wear mine every day but it continues to show “H” (high) power reserve. The watch arrived on “M” (medium – presumably because it had been kept in the dark, in its box for some time) and took several weeks to get up to “H” where it now remains.

The operation of the watch is reasonably easy. It’s true to say that the instruction booklet is rather thick and you DO need to read it, though it’s certainly clear enough. Casio have always produced excellent instruction manuals, ever since I received one of their original stainless steel digitals as a Christmas gift from my parents back in the early 1980s. Once you get used to the watch, it’s actually very simple to use (and will be even simpler to anyone who has previously owned a Casio watch).

Crucially, this watch is not over-designed or garish – as many watches in the G-Shock range can be. Check the other models in the AWG M100 range: there are further colour/display variations which may suit different purchasers, including the easier to read conventional black on grey LCD dials if required. These inverted grey on black LCDs are, admittedly, not that easy to read and if you plan on using the watch for at-a-glance timer readings you would be well advised to investigate a slightly different model. The hands are luminous although the luminosity fades quite quickly in the dark (this would probably not happen on a more expensive watch) but there is also a light, which makes the analogue time easy enough to read. As other reviewers have noted the light is not electro-luminescent (“illuminator”) and does not light the LCDs, which is a shame – I wonder whether this is maybe a constraint imposed by the solar power supply? Anyway, it’s not a problem unless you plan on using the watch for its other functions in the dark, which I don’t. If you do then look for another G-Shock as the AWG-M100 is probably not for you – although in my opinion these are amongst the best looking G-Shocks (“you pays your money…”).

The other main functions on the watch are:

    – Dual time (appears on digital display only) – includes all world time zones;
    – Stopwatch – sadly this does not go above 59m 59s 99 1/100ths – so consider that if you need a timer that lasts longer;
    – Countdown alarm – from 1-99 minutes only (again some may find this limited);
    – 5 daily alarms – good as reminders though tinny-sounding and won’t wake you up. A date alarm would have been useful but sadly is not included. There is also an hourly time signal.

The strap is the standard G-Shock “resin” – fairly hard-wearing, susceptible to the odd very minor scuff mark and goes very slightly shiny over time but otherwise resists wear and tear well: it is, after all designed to be knocked about a bit. In hot weather I find the strap can sometimes become a little uncomfortable and needs to be loosened, although this is the same for most watches I’ve owned. The casing is used on a number of G-Shock models and is something of a classic design. The watch face is not overly large and the strap is not tapered (a feature which badly dates some other Casio models, in my opinion). The thickness of the watch may be a problem for some. It can just about go under a shirt cuff and is not ridiculously thick, but may still be too thick depending on your preference. Whilst it’s fairly versatile and can be worn with more or less anything I personally would not choose to wear this watch with a business suit. Whilst this Casio is not what I would call a cheap watch, I do think that wearing it with smarter clothes does maybe tend to show it up a little – a problem presumably not experienced by (rich) owners of the aforementioned Seiko Astron.

for though, this is probably the best Gents watch money can but for the price and undeniably a 5/5 purchase based on the price/quality equation. The Amazon price at time of writing is good too, as typically this model sells for 130 in high street jewellers. Anyone want to swap me for an Astron? 😉

I was looking for a sports watch that I could wear without the worry of it getting wet and wear and tear. This watch fits the bill exactly. Although deeper than my usual watch, it is lght , and its strap is comfortable & well fitting.
I have only had the watch for two weeks, but setting up was not as difficult as I expected, given the size of the hand book!
The self charging function works fine, I only had to leave the watch to stand for a few hours for it to be fully charged.
The full lighting function is enouigh to see the whole face at night.
All in all given the functions I have used to date and for what I wated the watch for, I am very pleased with my purchase.
The only small criticism I have is the the hour hand can be a bit difficult to see in dark light, even with the full ilumination working

I was worried this watch was going to be a bit bulky as the G-shocks allways interested me but most models seemed too chunky for my taste. This one is a bit bigger then regular casio watches but not overly so.
I see that some people commented that the little led light did not light up the smaller digital dials. Well, for starters, the white hands on the black face keep the watch very readable in dim light. I’d only needed to use the led in total darkness and the fact that you can’t read what day or date it is does not bother me one bit. If I NEED to see what day/date it is in absolute darkness i’m probably not in a state to even read a watch anyway 😉
Also worth noting that my watch arrived with only ‘M’ charge and took a few hours of summer sun to get to ‘H’. I leave it on the windowsill overnight to let it get an hour of sun every morning and it has not dipped to ‘M’ since. (manual states 7months on a full charge without any proper light… we’ll see :))
The multi band 6 is absolutely fantastic. This is a feature I will not be able to miss on a watch from now on. setting DST on my old ana/digi Casio was a pain! Set it once and never touch the hands ever again, how it should be!
The ruggedness of the G-shock range is something i will need to experience for myself. From what I read I trust I made a good choice durability wise.

There is really nothing negative to say other then the small digital dials are sometimes difficult to read as they are quite small and negative. Other than that I still really recommend this watch.

Also, great price amazon. This watch was at least 40 more expensive where I live (at the current exchange rate) and it got here 1 day before the estimated arrival date. Great service.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI wanted a watch that was radio controlled with the anthorn receiver and looked reasonably good as a lot of analogues tend to do.

The reviews of dual analogue/digital watches tended to complain about the readability of the digital dials. As one reviewer mentioned they are more readable than most so I bought this one. I certainly have no problem reading the dials on this watch.

The watch looks fine on my slim wrist no doubt helped by the black colour of its case.

    On to its faults:
No date and digital time displayed at the same time. Only date or digital time and the day can be displayed.

Strap loop is too close and needs forcing a little to get the strap through, hopefully it will smooth out over time.

Stopwatch is 60 minutes only, something that casio seem to be doing more often recently.

Overall I am happy with the watch but its not perfect.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersThe photography of this watch doesn’t do it justice – it’s much better looking `in the flesh’. This is one of the G Shocks which is easy to read and where the face is uncluttered.

I wanted a watch for rugged outdoor activities and it fits the bill. This is a classy watch – watch snobs have to acknowledge the performance of G Shocks and this will outperform watches costing thousands more. It’s also – in snobby Britain – one of the most classless timepieces – and cosmopolitan: you’d not get slagged in a room full of TAG wearers or look blingy or flash elsewhere – it has a go anywhere persona – from boardrooms to building sites nightclubs to nights camping.

The only places it will have major fails is when wearing shirts with cuff-links (it’s too chunky to get under most) or when wrapped up in the freezing cold (no solar power) – though you could possibly wear it outside your ski gear / Arctic camping clothes.

The only niggle I have with the watch is the light – this illuminates the main face and not the 3 digital windows. As these are recessed and small – they are the most difficult to read in low light – durrrrr.

On top of the ruggedness this offers both solar power and radio/atomic time control – so its pretty much set up and forget. Easy and cheap to run with out the risk of some duff jeweller nicking or miss-fitting the seal – rendering your watch a water bucket. No battery changes .

The strap is extremely comfortable and looks robust and buttons and the face are offered clever protection. This is a great `bang for your bucks’ buy and if I only had one watch for all occasions, this would be the one.

The watch is great. It’s everything you were promised by G-Shock.
I have a watch I can put on anytime without regreting the choice later on, since I can jog, surf, go to the gym or the pool with it. If you end up just going to work or the university you won’t look like a kid wearing it.
That’s the only thing about it: I like it so much sometimes I wish it was a little more “eye catching”.
About the watch functions they all work just fine and come in very handy.
I only had some trouble receiving the atomic clock signal (I live in Portugal), but that depends on a lot of variables so I don’t blame it on the watch. In Portugal, some days, dispite trying a lot of times, I can’t get it to synchronise. However, I’ve been to Dublin and I had no trouble at all synchronising it over there. The watch did it by itself while I slept.
    It’s a great buy!

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTotally agree with all the reviews I read before buying. Biggest negative is the lack of illumination of the little digital screens when using the light. Which means that only the time can be read and nothing else if you’re in a situation where you’re reliant on the light. The reality is for me this won’t be a problem, as I suspect for most. Other than that, looks and feels good (I have small wrists yet this design and size doesn’t look oversized on me which is great), radio control has worked well in both countries I have been in since buying. All in all I look forward to putting it on in the morning!

This watch is great for the price. It fits well on the wrist and is in my opinion the perfect size. It keeps time well and has a number of good features. It has space for 5 separate alarms, a timer, stopwatch and a world clock. The three digital displays may be to small for some people and they do not glow or light up in the dark. Being solar powered it does need to be exposed to some form of light but that does not have to be sunlight, a lamp will do. Setting up this watch is very easy but i recommend you flick through the manual just to make sure you are getting the best result. There is a power level indicator so you will know if is about to loose power. All things considered I think this an ideal watch for people who spend a lot of time outdoors camping, hiking or exploring. Highly recommended.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI had been looking at the AWG series for quite a while and decided on the stealthy black face being my choice – I loved the look of the AWG-101 but I didnt like the idea of the hands in the way of the dials – so its as if G-shock read my mind with the AWGM.

On first impression it all looks a bit confusing, but after reading through the manual (what has the world come to, reading manuals for a watch) and a bit of persistence I managed to set the watch up.

I love the idea of the light coming on when you turn the watch up to you face, little touches like that really show the workmanship gone into the watch.

People complain about the dials not being lit, that seems a bit of a given so if you don’t like it don’t buy it, personally I love how stealthy the watch face looks. The tips of the hands glow in the dark so you don’t even need to use the light at night. When you do use the light however, that even looks stylish as it up lights the face.

The watch is very light and feels comfortable on the wrist, and is remarkably easy to use once you know what buttons are for what, its taken me about a day to learn everything I need to.

There aren’t really any points off the top of my head, if I do come across any then I’ll edit the review appropriately.

Golden Review Award: 50 From Our UsersI bought this watch as an analogue alternative to the GW-M5600 that I normally wear for work. From what I was able to see and price point of view, this model seemed to be the best option. It shows all the Timekeeping, Reception and Battery Status parameters the other watch has apart from the Alarm’s Snooze option, which is of no consequence to me as I only use the hourly beeper function anyway.

When the watch arrived 2 days later I was very impressed as it has quite a few extra and useful features which, considering the cost, I didn’t expect it to have. For example it scrolls the full city name as well as the usual 3 letter code when going through the World Time or Home City settings. You can also swap instantly between the World Time and the Home City time zones and the watch also has GMT (UTC) time in the Set City and World Time settings.

The solar power facility is excellent as is the 6 band radio controlled timekeeping. One thing this watch does very well is to keep almost perfect time in between updates, the accuracy of the quartz time base alone without Time Signal calibration seems to be no greater than a few seconds per Month.

The watch is lightweight and very comfortable to wear, but its 15mm or so case depth can get in the way a bit. The watch has no Seconds Hand, but the lower sub dial permanently shows the seconds in digital format as well as the battery / alarm status when in a timekeeping mode. The left Sub Dial shows either Date – Month or digital time in 12 or 24 hour format and the day of week is on the right.

The watch dial is clear enough to be read at a glance even in low light. The digits in the left Sub Dial are rather small though and the hands can obstruct reading them properly, but there is an option to temporarily park them away from the Sub Dials if need be by pressing and holding the “mode” button. But don’t forget to move the hands back again! The hands will temporarily move out the way of the sub dials automatically when in some setting modes as well.

The Minute Hand nudges around the dial in 20 second steps, this allowing for its accurate alignment to the minute markers on the watch dial via the H-SET menu if need be. The hand alignment was perfect when the watch was bought so it is unlikely that this will ever need further adjustment anyway. They can also move backwards when in an adjustment mode, meaning quicker relocation if adjusting the watch to different time zones when going abroad for example.

An orange LED backlight is located at the bottom of the dial. This is sufficient to illuminate the dial and hands, but not the recessed LCD panels within the Sub Dials. This is a shame, as the hands and dial numeral markers are to some extent luminous anyway so it would have been more practical to light up the LCD’s as well, as they do contain relevant timekeeping information.

All in all, this is a very practical and functional analogue / digital watch with G-Shock, 200M water resistance, Solar Power and Radio Controlled timekeeping as standard. Its menu structure is very similar to my other watch so it was a doddle to set up to the right time. This watch also has 5 alarms, Stopwatch and Countdown Timer functions which are all displayed via the Sub Dial LCD’s. The alarm volume isn’t that loud but is OK for the Hourly beeper.

In conclusion and besides its minor criticisms, this is a highly recommended timepiece at a very reasonable price!

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersAs a G-Shock watch collector I wanted to foray into the AWG range and decided to go for this model.
What attracted me was the almost ‘stealth’ like looks. The black strap, dark grey face, gunmetal bezel and chrome edges to the dials and accents give it a unique look. The negative display works very well with the watch colour combination too. I love it!
The watch is very easy to set up and as always once you have chosen your ‘Home City’ and performed the ‘Manual receive’ with Daylight Saving time you do not need to touch the watch again for time adjustment.
The dials are quite small and the display in each of them is small too so I would not recommend this watch to people who want a large display.
However, being an ana/digi model the two hands (hour and minute only) do a good enough job of displaying the time and in ‘power saving’ mode the hands move showing the correct time while the digital displays turn off until exposed to light again.
My only gripe is the stopwatch display is small. The left hand dial displaying the minute and seconds with the bottom dial displaying tenth of second increments. The watch does have a nice little feature in that if the hour/minute hands cover of the digital dials you wish to view you can move the hands out of the way until you have finished and then return them back to their original position. Neat.
The watch is certainly a nice looking watch and can easily be worn for both formal or casual occasions. It’s a nice weight and being quite a small size compared to some G-Shock models this might appeal to more people. Of course being a G-Shock means it is tough and waterproof too.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a good looking watch, but doesn’t lack on functionality. In my opinion it has everything you could ever want for those who aren’t running up mountains or diving in the Atlantic shelf everyday, i.e. the vast majority of us.

    Key features
    – Solar powered and radio controlled.
    – Analogue hands, with digital dials which display the date, seconds, and day.
    – No set up, bar confirming your time zone (which came as London as default), and turning on Daylight Savings Time.

Little points to consider before buying:
    – The style of the watch is very stealth-like, so if you someone who wants an abundantly clear white faced watch with black hands, this is not for you. The face is quite dark, and the led light is the most powerful, but perfectly adequate for myself. Also, the number markers aren’t glow in the dark – just the hands.
    – The dials are small, so if you’re eyesight is poor it’s probably best to avoid. However I feel it’s a fair forfeit considering it’s stylish design and amazing functionality.

All in all, I’m very impressed – especially for the price.

P.S. Have only had for a few days, so cannot comment on longevity but come-on… it’s G-Shock. If anything’s going to last it’ll be this!

Golden Review Award: 22 From Our UsersWell Coming straight to point and cutting the crap

    Pros:-

    1) Solar Charging.
    2) Some kool features like Auto Time Sync, Smart watch (Move hands to a position so that you can see digital display).
    3) Not much bigger dial as compared to other G shocks.
    4) Eye Candy.
    5) Automatically lights up in dark when you move your wrist.
    6) Comfortable Resin Strap.
    7) Features like Day Light and world time enables it to use across world with accurate timing.

    Cons :-
    1) Crappiest Digital display :- U just cant see digital display in dark even if you light it up. I mean Black background with green digits makes it very difficult.

    2) Very sophisticated :- I am kinda good explorer.. love to play around with gadgets and figure out how they work.. but for this one had to go through 100 + page Manuel shipped along. Would recommend it for some one who is kool with such stuff.

3)LED Light :- Not sure whom to blame Digital display or led as cannot see in dark even if you turn on led . Enough to see hands without any trouble.

Overall I will give it 4 because I think this is a smart watch with kool looks and reasonable price (I know 100 GBP is a lot of money :)) Although I got it with a voucher for 80 😉
    Back to the point..
Yeah so this is a smart watch with good looks and decent size.. makes it quite decent to wear in office as well. Has solar charging which works on any light (Not just sunlight) so I believe it deserves 4 stars.
Digital display is pain in *** but still quite comfortable to use in daylight.
