Thanks to BREXIT you will now be required to pay an additional 47.70 to clear it through customs if you’re a UK customer. If it wasn’t such a great watch – I have worn my present one all over the world for over sixteen years without missing a beat – I would have had second thoughts.
It’s a really nice watch but light weight. I didn’t put any stars for it being waterproof or scratch resistant because at the moment i don’t know but has far has i am aware it is. I would definitely recommend it.
This is the fifth waveceptor I have owned (over 30+ years). I had to ditch the last one because the main function button had seized/worn out. Delighted with the replacement – which has differently designed buttons which I hope will last longer.
This watch not only looks really classy but is technically amazing. Love the fact you never need to worry whether it is telling exactly the right time and that I won’t need to replace the battery for 10 Yrs or so! I’ve put mine on a leather strap with a deployant clasp. It would be the perfect watch for me if it was 10 bar or more water resistant.
I like this watch it’s easy to read and easy read and set up I recommend i
Watches don’t come any more accurate than this due to updating via radio from the UKs atomic clock once a day. Looks good too.
Good quality and not overstated. Easy to operate with all the function you will ever need. Why pay more
Everything I need in a watch with sapphire crystal as a bonus.
Only one negative, it only has 2 holes of micro adjust.
After buying 3 of the less expensive version sover the last 15+ years, they all break on the resin biut of the strap where it attaches to the case. This version doesn’t use resin and I am hoping for better thibgs. It also has a better quality glass so I am also hoping for less scratches over time
Overall this is clearly a must have due to it being- solar, multiband6, ana digi, sapphire crystal and also has the typical casio base features.
I had an old version of this when they were all plastic, this one is so much better! I have not tested the water resistance but it says 5 bar so I’ll not be wearing it at that pressure! Sapphire glass, pretty much unscratchable, solar powered so no seal-breaking battery replacement, radio controlled so always right… ideal for almost everywhere I’m going to be unless I go far away but even then I still have an accurate watch with no annoying smart watch prompts! Great product.
Just love this watch. It has every function I wanted. Sapphire glass at this price point is such a good deal. It uses a radio time signal to keep it accurate. I purchased the blue one and most say the blue is deeper than the photo, however this is very much to my taste and makes the watch look much more expensive than it is. The review that said they could not get it to beep or the alarm to sound makes me wonder if they have turned off the beep in the alarm function. Think its called SIG OFF. With this in the off position the hour beep and the button beep along with the alarm do not sound. Well if you are looking for a good looking, accurate watch that can also tell you the time in Australia buy this one.
The radio function is superb and the quality is very good. I have purchased seiko and citizen radio controlled watches which do not work in the UK.
You can always rely on Casio for as the description provided was 100% correct. Great Product.
A very good watch for the price. In the beginning I found it a bit hard to read in certain light, but now I’ve gotten used to it. I think there is no reflective coating applied to the crystal, which my previous watch did have – but it’s not a big deal. The sapphire crystal seems to be very scratch resistant. I replaced the metal strap with a leather one which I prefer. The lug width is 20mm. The stopwatch, alarm clock and other features are a bit hard to access but you can use them in a pinch. Overall recommended if you are looking for a reliable watch to tell the time.
You get a lot of watch for your money here, and you can dress it up or down by changing the strap. Once it’s set up, that’s it. It’s a great looking watch too and if you’re a Casio fan, you should look at the Lineage line. It’s no G shock but you get a lot here that you get on a g shock- atomic time keeping, tough solar etc. Great watch and fits really well if you have a slimmer wrist.
Atomic clock accuracy, stainless steel case and strap, solar powered (no replacement batteries), sapphire face (ultimate scratch resistance), analogue display plus all the normal digital watch functions as well and it looks great too.
What are you waiting for, buy it and you won’t be disappointed.
I purchased this watch because of the stainless steel case and I was not disappointed. Strap is easy to adjust and feels good on the wrist. The watch automatically updated as soon as I took it
out of the box. Already set to London.
As for the vender the delivery was 1 day early and no issues.
After using it for a week the time keeping is spot on.
Like the all stainless steel case. Keeps good time. Easy to read. But if you want to take links out of the bracelet BEWARE. There is a miniscule metal sleeve inside each link that holds the pin in place. If you lose this microscopic component, the pin won’t be held firmly in place and the link will fail. You have been warned!
A very nice watch. It was easier than I thought to adjust the time (London GMT). It has charged fine, and it is working well. I have had it for just a few days, thus a deeper review could not be provided until a few months.
Need some instructions on how to remove links from strap as this is not straight forward and must be done very carefully without losing the very small metal inserts.
Other than that great watch and very clear to read. I would highly recommend this watch and love it.
Worn everyday for 5 years, still going good. No scratches on the glass, clasp is still fine.
Slightly complex to adjust, but with the radio control, this is only needed for travel to different time zones.
I was a little underwhelmed when I first got this watch compared to some other automatic ones I have purchased but having worn it now on and off for a while I am very happy with it . If you are looking for a very accurate time piece for everyday use this would not be a bad choice . It will grow on you
Family joint 70th birthday present. Disappointed that there is OEM manufacturing information on the back of the watch as the family wanted to have it engaged in memory of my big birthday. Watch is accurate and easy to set up. Local jeweller removed three links FOC to fit my wrist. Link removing tool was on an extended delivery had I wished to remove the links myself.
Nice Looks for all occasions , keeps perfect time even when the clocks go back and the digital display makes sure the date is always right. The only thing you have to do yourself is put it on. I’ve lots of watches ranging from 10 to 1500 but this watch ticks all boxes for me.
I wanted sapphire glass and could only find them on $500 or above Casio’s in the US but found a link to this watch in the UK. It actually cost me less than I would have spent replacing the existing with the same model again – the USD to GBP rate was in my favour and being VAT-exempt as an international purchase resulted in getting a superior watch (sapphire glass, all metal) for less than I spent on my earlier watches.
This one is noticeable heavier with the all metal case, but that’s okay.
The only rough point was sizing the band – getting those pins out and then back in again without a proper tool was painful but I did it and the watch fits great, works like a charm, routinely synchronizes with the local atomic clock and I expect it to last for many years. Very happy with the purchase and would definitely buy it again.
It’s a good solid build without the plastic/resin bits casio tend to squeeze in here n there, I’ve always worn Casio and found the to be very accurate as is this one, without the plastic bits I’m hoping for many years of service. As always this watch is easy to set if accustomed to the Casio watch range , if not then there’s the book and also very helpful videos on YouTube to help set your watch.
This is a much better watch than my previous Wave Ceptor which had a plastic case and more importantly plastic link that joins the watch to the strap. The chrome coloured paint has peeled off and it looks pretty scruffy now, although it still works fine. This new watch is all steel and looks like it will last a long time. The instructions are very clear and it was easy to set up. Unfortunately I didn’t have any tool capable of removing the strap links but bought one through Amazon which made removing links very easy. Am very please with this watch; well worth the money.
So far all is good
I can say this though I have very large wrists and it is a little tight ( I have ordered a further link directly from Casio) but worth noting)
The light I find it a bit tricky to see the time in the dark when this is pressed, BUT the luminous hands work for me through the whole night so not an issue
other than that a great watch easy to read good for general or evening wea
I bought this watch four and a half years ago and have been wearing it daily ever since.
The fact that I have never had to worry about having to replace the battery gives peace of mind as does the fact that the time is set by radio time signals means that it is always accurate.
I have used it in North America as well as across Europe with no issues once the local time zone has been reset.
It is inevitable that any watch will be knocked and bashed in everyday use but this watch is showing no evidence, the Chrystal is very scratch resistant and is as unblemished as the day it came out of the box.
I would recommend this watch.
Excellent watch, and of course extemely accurate due to the Radio Time synchronisation. The solar charging is a bonus to me and once fully charged after I received it I have had no problem keeping it so. No doubt this is helped by the function in which the LCD display and second hand are switched off during the night and when the watch is in the dark. I have used these Wave Ceptor watches for many years now, but in my experience you have to watch (no pun intended) the material for the case. This one is solid metal but some are plastic coated to look like metal. One I owned broke irreparably and well out of warranty just where the bracelet attaches to the body making it quite unwearable.
After 4 days, very happy with this watch which has an elegant, clear and simple face, yet incorporates all of the features I wanted and more. It does not seem to be a problem to keep charged in normal use and it has picked up the radio time signal reliably without any special positioning, well away from a window. The watch appears very solidly made in solid stainless-steel, as does the bracelet. I was able to remove a bracelet link reasonably easily using a bent safety-clip to push out the pins.
Does everything except make toast. A gadget mans dream. Although it comes to life and goes to the right time the moment you open the tin, the instructions are very badly organised, instead of saying ‘Step one do this’, ‘Step two do that’, they just randomly tell you everything it will do. One tip, if you modify the bracelet length, make sure the you do not lose the tiny tubes that the link pins press into. If you do, the pins push in loosely and will surely fall out. Not the clearest dial I would have liked, especially in bright light, as the metallic sheen on the face causes reflections that look like the hands, a feature that is not helped by the horizontal line between the 9 and 3. The illumination is just about adequate but only stops on for one second, which is not enough. Despite these irritations, would I buy it again? You bet I would!
The build quality is excellent with nice contrasts between the brushed and polished parts of the case. This theme is continued on the strap and both look very attractive. I like not having a crown to catch on clothing etc.having ripped a few crown/stem assemblies clean out over the years. The stainless steel bracelet is of a good quality; although I do prefer heavier bracelets, I expect many would be satisfied with it.
The dial is very clear and legible to read at a glance and has a high quality finish with plated details. The sapphire crystal is a must for me as I clumsily bang watches as I walk past things. I’ve worn this watch for a few weeks and of course it is still scratch free on the crystal. Luminosity of the hands and dial is as good as any watch I’ve previously owned but with this watch there is the bonus of a back light. I’m not sure why the light is amber coloured but it does the job in darkness.
The best feature of this watch is the accuracy. It is simply as accurate as you can buy because of the daily synchronisation with atomic clock times. I travel to Europe occasionally too so I can pick up the German signal as well as the UK signal with this having 6 radio synchronisation bands. The hands line up exactly with the dial divisions making it very easy to read the exact time.
The date display is very easy to read and whilst I never forget which day it is (not yet anyway!), the day is clearly displayed to the left of the date. The calendar is of course perpetual – You never have to adjust anything on this watch unless you change country. You simply wear it and look at it when you want to know the exact time.
I never have a problem with charge – the solar charged battery always displays “HI” when I check. I work in an office mostly and sleep in a very dark room, keeping the watch by my bed for reference.
Downsides? None really but I would prefer say100m water resistance for a little more comfort if I choose to swim in this watch. With only 50m resistance, I don’t think I’ll chance it although it is fine for washing hands etc. Some have complained about the difficulty of adjusting the bracelet. I did this myself and found it straightforward using a proper pin removal tool – you can buy them on Amazon cheaply enough. I agree the pins are tight, though. You must drive the pins out in the direction of the arrows on the inside of the strap and obviously, refit them in reverse.
Update August 2020. I’m still very happy with this watch and have had no problems in 4 years of regular use. I changed the bracelet for a shark-mesh type which goes very well. I especially appreciate the slimmer profile of the watch which makes it my favourite choice for work. The watch functions perfectly still and due to the sapphire crystal still looks great.
Bought this just to use for work instead of using one of my more expensive watches. I noticed that another reviewer made comments such as needs to be worn outside the sleeve to keep it charged….RUBBISH on a full charge it will run for around 4 months if its left in the dark 24/7. The back-light for night time could be better but you can see the time and I don’t consider that enough of a problem to give this watch less than 5 stars as for another reviewers comments on the quality compared to for example Seiko or Citizen, for the same tech spec these are much more expensive. If that’s what you expect then that’s what you should buy. This is a good watch for the price.
Update: I’ve just had an e-mail from Casio confirming receipt and advising that as this watch is not marketed in the UK (???) there may be a delay in repairing it of 8-12 weeks as parts may have to be obtained from Tokyo, what is going on?
Arrived one day earlier than quoted. Most people will need to adjust the watch band as it is rather long. I did not find it difficult to remove links but it is very important not to lose the tiny sleeves – as some reviewers have mentioned.
I found this very helpful in ensuring everything went well:
[…]
I know it is for s Seiko watch but the Casio is similar.
The battery was on mid charge when it arrived but after spending time in the daylight it has been on high ever since. I am very pleased with the watch and the digital display is nice and clear.
My criteria were as follows:
1. Although I have strong arms my wrists are disproportionately thin, so I wanted a watch which was as small a diameter as possible. Many are a ridiculous looking 50mm diameter and up to 15 mm thick. This Casio is just 40 mm dia and 9 mm thick and fits me perfectly.
2. I wanted something which was clear and easy to read, understated and didn’t shout “Bling”. It’s easy to be seduced by lots of tiny dials within the dial. Not much use if you can’t read them or spend all your time trying to figure out what they mean.
3. I wanted a stopwatch and a countdown timer (I go dinghy racing and a countdown start timer is essential)
4. Naturally it must be waterproof. I would have preferred 10 atmospheres, but 5 is good enough and I don’t plan on diving in it.
5. My watches get a hard life outdoors, so stainless steel or Titanium rather than resin for wear resistance was preferable.
6. For the same reason, sapphire glass was preferable to mineral glass or acrylic
7. Then I started considering radio control for accuracy and not having to adjust it for Summer Time
8. Solar power would be the icing on the cake. No more battery changes for life!
This Casio LCW-M100DSE-1AER was the only watch I could find which met all these criteria and more. Best of all, the price is very reasonable compared with other brands, which offered some but not all of my wish list. In the metal, the watch looks fabulous and is much higher quality than I expected from the photos. I took 5 links out of the bracelet in about 15 minutes – not difficult if you watch a You Tube tutorial first. Now it fits snugly and securely on my wrist and I am delighted with my choice.
The radio synchronisation occurs every night with the watch on my bedside table, quite far from any window. I left the watch for 30 minutes in the sun and the battery indicator now shows “High” and has stayed that way.
As a bonus, it will simultaneously show the time in any other time zone, Extremely handy as I often make business trips to Europe and now don’t have to fiddle with resetting my watch on arrival.
I highly recommend this watch and still can’t believe how much technology Casio gives you for the money.
People say they have difficulty shortening the bracelet. Yes it’s not as easy as the newly designed strap on the M640TD-1AER which comes with a small plastic tool but it can be done without taking it to a jeweller. Here’s how:
You’ll need long nose pliers and a pair of geometry dividers or other pin like tool (a large safety pin should be ok – you do not need to buy anything) small & strong enough to push out the conventional pins. On the inside of the strap, you’ll see small arrows – the direction indicates which way to push out the pins. Simply push two out a few millimetres, then use the pliers to grip and pull them right out. When you remove the link, there’s a very short pin sleeve on the inside of the link that may fall out. You’ll need that when you refit the pin. Once you have removed enough links, refit the bracelet by aligning the open clasps and secure by pushing in the pin by hand. There’ll be about 3 to 4 mm of pin that you won’t be able to push in without using the flat of the pliers. I placed the pliers on the table and pushed the pins down against the pliers. They went in easily enough. Voila! No need for a jeweller.
If I was being picky, I’d still want a titanium bracelet and 10 bar waterproofing. But this is a replacement for my Omega Seamaster multifunction which needs a new battery every 3 years. Who knows, I may even keep using it, as the Seamaster is getting on for 30 years old and costs up to 75 to replace the battery.
The pins are not a “force fit” as some others have said. They are a clearance fit and are held in place by a 2mm long roll pin.
All you need is a small bit of maximum 1mm diameter hard steel and a pair of pliers.
Gently tap out the pin in the direction of the arrow that is marked on the inside of the link.
Once it’s pushed out a short way, pull it out with a pair of pliers. Watch out for the short roll pin which should fall out.
If the roll pin doesn’t fall out, have a look at the holes on either side of the centre link.
One side has a larger diameter hole which is where the roll pin is located.
Re-assembly is just the opposite.
Put the roll pin in its location first and then gently push the link pin through in the opposite direction
to the arrow marked on the inside of the bracelet.
It’s novel to find the watch synching perfectly with R4’s pips every day. Nice gentle enduring luminosity at night but I’d have liked a double dot or something distinguishing at ’12’ since the watch’s orientation on the wrist can be sleepily misread by 30deg. But it’s a terrific watch!
It gets 4 stars rather than 5 [but see edit below] only because of the difficulty of removing bracelet links to make it fit the wrist. I can generally sort such things out myself, but despite reading advice kindly set out by other reviewers here, getting a watch pin removal kit, and watching a dozen YouTube vids, I had to admit defeat and get a jeweller to adjust it for 12. Quite honestly I was happy enough to pay that after spending hours trying to sort it, but potential buyers expecting to use it straight out of the box might be a bit optimistic. The manual is of no help on the bracelet, but reasonably comprehensive on the watch functions
Fine watch once you’ve got it on your wrist, does all you could ask of a watch, and an impressive piece of technology.
Later edit after wearing it for 2 weeks: I want to stress that this is a superb watch in every respect. I can’t see how it could be improved and while I’ve never spent more than about 20 on a watch before, this one is worth every penny. It now gets 5 stars from me.
+ looks very elegant I think
+ good combination of features in a case that’s not too big (width and depth)
+ accurate time sync
+ solar works well so far (summer)
+ lume is still readable after 6.5 hours in the dark
– strap links hard to remove. Jeweller can do it though, or be very patient. Be careful not to lose the inserts from the links.
– if you’re a perfectionist, check that the second hand hits the centre of the markers BEFORE removing the strap. I’ve read reviews where their watch did perfectly; mine is a tiny bit off.
I initially ordered the Casio WVA-470DE-2AVEF but returned it as it was by far of inferior quality (the lens was curved which distorted the view and it had plastic built into it). By comparison this watch is solid polished stainless steel all over and has sapphire glass which is a sign of quality. The bezel size is perfect for my smaller than average wrists but I think it would still look fine on larger wrists. It is also suitable for casual and smart dress wear.
I suspect this watch is actually a European based model as it is not plentiful in the UK but it is well worth hunting down and paying for. I’d say it easily matches watches that are 4 or 5 times the price.
As stated by previous reviewers, open the tin and it comes alive Instructions booklet good, well nearly .
I have a Radio controlled Alarm clock and comparing the two they both change together.
Very pleased with this purchase and would give it 5 stars except for one thing, the watch strap.
This has been mentioned before.Extremely difficult to remove the link pins as they do not have a locking system
other than a force fit.Once removed they can be slack Over came by superglue in the hole. Not lost one yet.
A very good purchase if you like accuracy.
My big problem is that the wrist band could not be adjusted. I tried one city jeweller who failed, but sent me to another, nearby jeweller who was a major stockist for Casio. Neither jeweller was able to get any pins out of the wrist band (in order to remove a couple of links as my wrist is smaller than the supplied size). The second jeweller has now sent the watch off to Casio. I will update this review when the watch comes back if there is any explanation from Casio. Whereas my older watch was made in Thailand, this newer model is made in China; perhaps the Chinese factory is making the pin holes too tight. With my older watch, I was able to remove the pins myself with the aid of a very thin metal nail and a pair of fine nosed pliers, since Casio marks some of the links with an arrow showing the direction the pin must be pushed in. It is possible that the Chinese factory inserted the pins in the wrong direction.
So with a wrist band far too large, I could not wear this watch; hence the two stars which I will amend if Casio provides a solution and an explanation.
[Added 31 March 2014 – Casio managed to remove two links where the jewellers failed. However, the Casio response to my email was unhelpful and did not suggest why there was a problem]
One of the main importance for me was accurate time! It sound pretty obvious but not all watches are able to count correctly 😉 This watch, with it’s 6 band receiver seemed to be the perfect choice. And so far it’s a great watch.
Pros:
– Solar, no battery replacements
– DCF radio synchronisation
– Basic features like stopwatch, timer and alarms
– Day of week and date
– Lot’s of world city times available
– “Classic” look although it’s modern inside
Cons:
– I cannot get the stainless steel watch band to the perfect length I prefer. Besides removing links there are only 2 slots on the lock for fine tuning. If there were 3 I would have rated this watch five stars…
My requirements for a new watch were (in order of importance) a clear, easy to read face, solar power, sapphire glass and radio control. A reasonable price was also a consideration, therefore this watch was the obvious choice.
It does it’s own marketing by setting itself as soon as you take the lid off the metal box…..cool!
The instruction book is very clear and setting it up is simple. I took a link out of the bracelet. It can be done but it is a bit tricky!
I can only add to it’s five star ratings by saying that it ticks all of the boxes for me and looks and feels good to wear.
The band is massive! Extra links are always welcome, but this requires link removal for human wrists.
The removal of links in this watch is VERY difficult and I say dangerous, unless you have proper tools.
The links are held together by pins which are narrow and fit into the link very tightly.
You could poke a pin out with a very narrow jeweler’s screwdriver whilst balancing the link edge on, but the force required to push the pin out is massive.
This makes the risk of the link flipping over and of you stabbing yourself with the poking device significant. The risk of scratching the band is high too.
I suggest that when you order the watch you go to an auction site and order a small vice like device that grips the link safely and pokes the pin out safely by way of a screw driven poker.
Or you could pay a jeweller to do it. A local jeweller wanted 10 !
The vice cost me 3.99 delivered!
The watch is LOVELY.
I personally do not find the face too reflective. It seems to be a brushed effect finish.
The watch mass is substantive and gives an impression of HIGH QUALITY. The links are solid and enhance the feel of expense.
The solar cell is about 1.5 cm of the centre of the face.
Time keeping is accurate. Setting is easy.
The manual is in a tiny font.
Waterproofing is good and allows me to clean my watch in an ultrasonic water bath, keeping the watch clean.
The watch glass is some type of ceramic and likely to resist light scrapes.
The watch came in a trade marked metal tin and was packed in foam and a plastic bag.
The battery charge indicated mid level out of the box. It has not increased from this level after 2 days use.
I hope the battery replacement is easy when it eventually fails to hold a charge. The watch is likely to last a long time.
The AMAZON price of the watch is the CHEAPEST I could find anywhere on the net.
Delivery was 3 days before indicated.
This is a cutting edge, quality product that I feel will last years and years.
I chose this watch to replace a now obsolete Casio WVA-210DU-2AVER. I wanted a watch that was a reliable timekeeper (radio updates seem to be the most effective way), had an analogue display plus alarm, was visible in the dark, gad a solar cell (given that my last watch had to be scrapped when the original battery ran flat I hoped that one might last longer, albeit I’ve since been told by Casio that their button seals are not expected to last more than 3 years anyway). an all metal case and strap and an appearance that appealed to me. Early days yet, but this watch seems to satisfy all that I wanted including the aesthetic appeal at an acceptable price. Worryingly it was the only one on the market that did meet my criteria even though I looked at some much more expensive watches. Delivery was 2 days earlier than forecast.
I’ve owned two other Casio wave ceptor watches, WVA-430DU-1AVER and WVA-430TDE-1A2VER they work fine, one stainless steel the other titanium. They work great with the radio time signal in UK/Germany.
I did not mind the watches only had a metal cover and resin case, which made them light.
Though the watch glass being plastic did scratch, after quite a accidental bash.
This watch is all metal case, slimmer than some previous models and crystal glass.
It was a little different to set-up, after a few minutes all ok.
The time zone selected also selects the radio time signal in that region, if available.
Oh and it has a light where the 6 would be.
Nice looking and functional.
